Abstract:Asymmetric Wittig-type olefination of 4-substituted cyclohexanones with chiral ligand-modified stable arsonium ylides has been examined. The 8-phenylmenthol-derived chiral arsonium ylide of 4 reacted with prochiral ketones 9a-d at -15 degrees C to give the 4-substituted cyclohexylideneacetates 11a-d in 58-69% yield and in up to 80% diastereomeric excess (de). Abstract:alpha-Hypervalent iodine functionalized phosphonium and arsonium ylides 2 can be used as umpolung ylides to react with nucleophiles to give alpha-heteroatom substituted ylides 4 in good yields. The nucleophilic substitution-Wittig tandem reaction of 2 can occur smoothly to provide an efficient method for the synthesis of (Z)-alpha-halo-alpha,beta-unsaturated enoates or enones 6, stereoselectively.

Abstract:Acetylenic stannanes (1) react with Cp2Zr(H)Cl (Cp=η5-C5H5) giving (Z)-α-stannylvinylzirconium complexes (2), which are trapped with sulfinyl chlorides (3) in THF at room temperature to afford (Z)-α-stannyl-1-alkenyl sulfoxides (4). The yields are 63–81%. The coupling of 4h with diphenyliodonium chloride in the presence of Pd(PPh3)4 and CuI afford (E)-α-phenyl unsaturated sulfoxide 5 in 75% yield.

Abstract:A new synthetic method for alpha-alkynyl-alpha,beta-unsaturated esters is presented herein. The method is based on a copper(I)-catalyzed three-component reaction of a terminal alkyne, diazoesters and aldehydes. The reaction is featured by mild conditions, high yields and excellent stereoselectivity. Cu(I) car-bene migratory insertion is proposed as the key step in the transformation.

Intermediates 2 were reacted with acyl chlorides 3 via Zr-Cu transmetallation with retention of the configuration to afford alpha-seleno or alpha-silyl alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones 4 in good yield.

Abstract:We describe a new method for the stereoselective synthesis of (Z)-1,2-dithio-1-alkenes via copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of (Z)-2-bromovinyl sulfides and thiols. The desired products are obtained in good to excellent yields. The double bond geometry of the starting (Z)-2-bromovinyl sulfides is retained under these reaction conditions.
