Abstract:World first-class universities are the symbols of the comprehensive national power and the aims of higher educations.First-class universities not only possess fist-class disciplines,faculties and achievements,but also have profound cultures.Every first-class university has respectable spirit.Unique university spirit is an important symbol of first-class university.In the process of developing world first-class universities in China,we pay excessive attentions to hard index,but little attentions to cultivating university spirit.The university spirit is the soul of universities shaped in the long history,which is the common values and group consciousness possessed by all faculties and students.It plays an indispensable role in the development of universities.It is crucial for Chinese universities to attach importance to the cultivation of university spirits in order to become ones of world first-class universities.

Abstract:From a cultural perspective to explore and examine the university spirit,it should reflect the core values,the guiding ideology and soul of the University to achieve its basic mission and functions required.After Looking at the development of the university functions from the culture of the three elements: faith,knowledge and virtue,it is indicated that the university spirit must be abiding by and evoluting.During the caurse of the evolution of the University and its spirit,the basic spirit of the University has achieved a perfect fusion of the scientific spirit and humanistic spirit.Combining with the development of the university in China,it has a specific connotation: seeking truth from facts,the spirit of independence and freedom of thought,justice,faith and cultivation of personality are respectively the main contents of the scientific spirit and humanistic spirit,while respecting the talent,carrying forward the spirit of inclusiveness,the spirit of sacrifice,patriotic spirit and bear spirit.

Abstract:The spirit of educator embodies rich connotations and holds multiple dimensions of value for the cultivation of normal university students. At the individual level, it aligns with the inherent needs of normal university students' growth; at the university level, it implements the fundamental task of fostering morality and cultivating people; and at the societal level, it responds to the demands of building a strong education nation in the era. In the new era, promoting the spirit of educators should be based on theoretical teaching, strengthening normal university students’ cognition of the spirit of educators; nourishing through campus culture, cultivating normal university students’ emotions towards the spirit of educators; and using educational practice as a carrier, deepening normal university students’ practice of the spirit of educators.

Abstract:The spirit of struggle has different connotations in different eras. The spirit of struggle of college and university students in the new era is mainly reflected in taking the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation as their own responsibility, daring to face difficulties without fear, and serving the people wholeheartedly. At present, the course of cultivating the spirit of struggle is mainly facing three problems: students do not want to struggle due to superior material conditions, dare not struggle due to a low degree of socialization, and are not able to struggle due to insufficient ability. Based on this, colleges and universities must strive to create a cultural atmosphere conducive to cultivating the spirit of struggle as well as give full play to the role of ideological and political theory education. The students themselves also need to consciously strengthen theoretical learning, strive to devote themselves to the practice of struggle, and give full play to their subjective initiatives.

Abstract:According to Five Laws of Library Science, library is a growing organism. Its innovation, therefore, becomes a perennial topic of library. However, how to discern the true innovation is a problem to address. In this paper, the innovation is discussed in three aspects as follows:"gaining new knowledge by review" "keeping diversity and blending five colors in harmony" "creating somethingness from nothingness", which are interpreted by the author as innovative transfer, innovative integration, and innovative development respectively. The above three ideas constitute all meanings of innovation. Innovation is not only consciousness, but methods. Consciousness is interpreted as tao, and method be done as qi. Both of them are inseparable, generating innovation incessantly. Library is a symbol of civilization and humanity, with a close tie to which it is regarded as a divine place. Thus, how to cultivate the humanistic spirit of librarian is key to the development of library career. Above all, this paper gives us a further discussion about the meanings of humanistic spirit from following five perspectives, including orientation of civilization, orientation of goodness,orientation of morality, orientation of fulfilling obligations for human beings, orientation of sparing no effort to realize the following four aspirations, including the aspiration to ordain conscience for Heaven and Earth, to secure life and fortune for the people, to continue lost teachings of past sages, and to establish peace for all future generations. Accordingly, Nanjing Library carries on all works in the spirit of innovation and humanity.
