Abstract:World first-class universities are the symbols of the comprehensive national power and the aims of higher educations.First-class universities not only possess fist-class disciplines,faculties and achievements,but also have profound cultures.Every first-class university has respectable spirit.Unique university spirit is an important symbol of first-class university.In the process of developing world first-class universities in China,we pay excessive attentions to hard index,but little attentions to cultivating university spirit.The university spirit is the soul of universities shaped in the long history,which is the common values and group consciousness possessed by all faculties and students.It plays an indispensable role in the development of universities.It is crucial for Chinese universities to attach importance to the cultivation of university spirits in order to become ones of world first-class universities.

Abstract:From a cultural perspective to explore and examine the university spirit,it should reflect the core values,the guiding ideology and soul of the University to achieve its basic mission and functions required.After Looking at the development of the university functions from the culture of the three elements: faith,knowledge and virtue,it is indicated that the university spirit must be abiding by and evoluting.During the caurse of the evolution of the University and its spirit,the basic spirit of the University has achieved a perfect fusion of the scientific spirit and humanistic spirit.Combining with the development of the university in China,it has a specific connotation: seeking truth from facts,the spirit of independence and freedom of thought,justice,faith and cultivation of personality are respectively the main contents of the scientific spirit and humanistic spirit,while respecting the talent,carrying forward the spirit of inclusiveness,the spirit of sacrifice,patriotic spirit and bear spirit.

Abstract:The length of a university history in general is closely linked to the academic tradition and quality of a given institution.The history of a university requires objective evaluation of the role and influence of many of its presidents and prominent figures,regardless of their political identities.The writing of a university history requires a truthful and critical representation of the past,so as to set oneself an example to others.The cultural heritage of the research university comprises not only its academic tradition and campus scenery,but also its character,ethos,motto,anthem,atmosphere,emblem and architecture.There is a phenomenon of "competition between two universities" in the history and culture of research universities.Despite of certain negative influence,such competition in general spurs both institutions to strive forward for a win-win situation.

Abstract:The Yan'an Spirit is a unique ideological and cultural phenomenon that emerged during the period of China's War of Resistance against Japan. It represents the experience summary and theoretical innovation of the Chinese nation in the Yan'an area. The Yan'an Spirit is an important part of China's spiritual heritage with rich connotations. It not only enabled the Chinese nation to defeat the Japanese invaders in conjunction with the international community during World War II, but also helped to establish a more confident national identity, providing great impetus for China's modernization. Today, university education in China has the mission of cultivating students. Integrating the Yan'an Spirit into university education can help college students strengthen their ideals and beliefs, and persist in seeking truth from facts.
