Abstract:World first-class universities are the symbols of the comprehensive national power and the aims of higher educations.First-class universities not only possess fist-class disciplines,faculties and achievements,but also have profound cultures.Every first-class university has respectable spirit.Unique university spirit is an important symbol of first-class university.In the process of developing world first-class universities in China,we pay excessive attentions to hard index,but little attentions to cultivating university spirit.The university spirit is the soul of universities shaped in the long history,which is the common values and group consciousness possessed by all faculties and students.It plays an indispensable role in the development of universities.It is crucial for Chinese universities to attach importance to the cultivation of university spirits in order to become ones of world first-class universities.
