Self Consistency and Harmonious Society: Psychological Explorations on Harmonious Society Construction

Abstract:The present paper aims at exploring the possible approaches to constructing harmonious society from the perspective of psychology.Harmonious society was defined from lexical and psychological analysis of Chinese word hexie(harmony) as inter-personal and inte-group/class harmony with differences between individuals and groups or classes.Efforts on constructing harmonious society are then classified as three aspects,namely promoting self consistency,interpersonal consistency,and human-environment harmony.And the most possible contributions from psychology were classified as three main areas as mental health and subjective well-being,personal development and success,and dynamics underlying dyadic,interpersonal,and inter-group interactions.Shortcomings of current research and approaches in contributing harmonious society and how to complete the mission of constructing harmonious society were also discussed in this paper.
