Abstract:One hundred and sixty piglets weaned at the 21 d of age were selected and divided into two treatments by initial weight and allotted.Each treatment included four replicates.The treatments received the same basal diet supplemented with 0%,0.2% nucleotides.The results indicted that nucleotides treatment reduced feed:gain ratio by 16.90%(P 0.05)and increased duodenum villi heiht signigicantly on the 7 d postweaning by 44.79%(P 0.05)and the DNA content of ilenum mucous on the 14 d postweaning by 111.65%(P 0.05).

Abstract:One hundred and sixty piglets weaned at the 21 days were selected and divided into two treatments randomly.Each treatment included four replicates.The treatments received the same basal diet,supplemented with 0.2% nucleotides.The results indicted that nucleotides treatment could increase pancreas ration(P0.05) in contrast to the control on the 7d after weaning and had a tendency of increasing liver and spleen ration on the 14d after weaning.Nucleotides treatment could increase significantly the content of total protein(P0.01)and albumin(P0.01) on the 21d after weaning.And it can also significantly increase the jejumum mucosa disaccharidase activity of weanling piglet at 14 days.

Abstract:In this paper, the developmental status of nucleotide for agriculture was reviewed. The product technologies, action mechanisms and applied efficiency of nucleotide for agriculture at different occasions were introduced. The applying results on many kinds of crops and economic plants, such as grain crops, fruit vegetable and tea etc., showed that nucleotide could significantly improve product quality, increase yield and enhance disease-resistance capability. All of these indicate that nucleotide for agriculture has a good prospect of study and application.

Abstract:Similar to other industries, aquaculture constantly requires new techniques to increase production yields. Modern technologies and different scientific fields, such as biotechnology and microbiology, provide important tools that could lead to a higher quality and a greater quantity of products. New feeding practices in farming typically play an important role in aquaculture, and the addition of various additives to a balanced feed formula to achieve better growth is a common practice of many fish and shrimp feed manufacturers and farmers. As ‘bio‐friendly agents’, immunostimulants, such as biological factors, probiotics and vitamins, can be introduced into the culture environment to control and kill pathogenic bacteria, as well as to promote growth of the cultured organisms. In addition, immunostimulants are non‐pathogenic and non‐toxic and do not produce undesirable side effects when administered to aquatic organisms. In this review, we summarize previous studies performed with both traditional immunostimulants and the most promising new generation of immunostimulants, such as polysaccharides, nutrients, oligosaccharides, herbs, microorganisms, prebiotics and different biological factors. This review primarily focuses on their protective efficacies and on what is known concerning their effects on the immune systems of aquatic organisms when delivered in vivo.

Abstract:Nucleotides ingested from breast milk and complementary foods during infancy play a vital role in the development of the immune and nervous system, as well as the maturation of gut function, and are considered a “special dietary nutrient.” Based on the existing research progress and theoretical basis, this review takes the distribution of dietary nucleotides (NTs) in the early life (after birth to the age of 3 years) diet and the in vivo metabolism/absorption process as the starting point and expounds on its potential impact and mechanism of action on early gastrointestinal and brain development. With the understanding of gut microbiota (GM), the interaction between dietary factors and GM has become a focus of food research. It is of great significance to reexamine the biological effects of early dietary nucleotide intake on infant gut–brain development from the perspective of the GM–gut–brain axis. This paper reveals the potential relationship between the NTs–GM–gut–brain axis and provides new ideas and theories for the research and application of NTs in the field of infant nutrition.

Abstract:From the conventional knowledge of protein nutrition to the molecular nutrition of amino acids, our understanding of protein/amino acid nutrition is rapidly increasing. Amino acids control cell growth and metabolism through two amino acid-sensing pathways, i.e. target of rapamycin complex 1 (TORC1) and the general control nonderepressible 2 (GCN2) signaling pathway. In the amino acid-abundant status, TORC1 dominates intracellular signaling and increases protein synthesis and cell growth. In contrast, amino acid deprivation actives GCN2 resulting in repression of general protein synthesis but facilitates the amino acid transport and synthesis process. By integrating and coordinating nutrition and hormone signaling, TORC1 and GCN2 control the switch of the catabolism and anabolism phase in most eukaryotes. Now, we appreciate that the availability of individual amino acids is sensed by intracellular sensors. These cutting-edge findings expand our knowledge of amino acid nutrition. Although the TORC1 and GCN2 were discovered decades ago, the study of molecular amino acid nutrition in aquaculture animals is still at its infancy. The aquaculture industry is highly dependent on the supply of fishmeal, which is the major protein source in aquacultural animal diets. Some concerted efforts were conducted to substitute for fishmeal due to limited supply of it. However, the concomitant issues including the unbalanced amino acid profile of alternative protein sources limited the utilization of those proteins. Continued study of the molecular nutrition of amino acid in aquaculture animals may be expected in the immediate future to expand our knowledge on the utilization of alternative protein sources.
Effects of Dietary Nucleotides on Growth, Non-Specific Immune Response and Disease Resistance of Sea Cucumber Apostichopus Japonicas

Abstract:A 9-week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary nucleotides (NT) on growth, immune response and disease resistance of sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicas (initial weight: 5.87 ± 0.03 g). Four graded levels of dietary NT were designed as 0, 150, 375 and 700 mg/kg, respectively. After the feeding trial, sea cucumbers were challenged with Vibrio splendidus for the determination of disease resistance. The results showed that the specific growth rates were significantly higher in sea cucumber fed the diet with 375 mg/kg NT than those fed the basal diet without NT supplementation (P < 0.05). The highest total coelomocytes counts in coelomic ﬂuid were found in the treatment with 150 mg/kg of dietary NT (P < 0.05). Compared to those fed with the basal diet, sea cucumber fed diets with nucleotides (≥ 375 mg/kg) had significantly higher phagocytic activities in coelomic ﬂuid (P < 0.05). Respiratory burst activities in coelomic ﬂuid significantly increased with increasing dietary NT supplementations up to 700 mg/kg (P < 0.05). No significant differences in the activities of superoxide dismutase, total nitric oxide synthase and acid phosphatase in coelomic ﬂuid were found among all the treatments (P > 0.05). After being challenged with V. splendidus, the cumulative mortalities of sea cucumber fed diets with 150 and 375 mg/kg NT were significantly lower than that in the treatment without dietary nucleotide supplementation (P < 0.05). Under the experimental conditions, the present results conﬁrmed that a diet supplemented with 375 mg/kg NT is able to enhance both non-speciﬁc immune response and growth of sea cucumber in vivo. In conclusion, it was showed that dietary NT does increase the growth performance, non-specific immunity and disease resistance of sea cucumber. The optimum dietary NT supplementation level for sea cucumber was found to be 375 mg/kg. The application of dietary NT may present a novel strategy for health management in sea cucumber's aquaculture.

Abstract:Low-fishmeal and protein-saving diets are two prominent nutritional strategies utilized to address challenges related to the scarcity and sustainability of protein sources in aquaculture. However, these diets have been associated with adverse effects on the growth performance, feed utilization, and disease resistance of aquatic animals. To mitigate these challenges, exogenous protease has been applied to enhance the quality of diets with lower protein contents or fishmeal alternatives, thereby improving the bioavailability of nutritional ingredients. Additionally, protease preparations were also used to enzymatically hydrolyze fishmeal alternatives, thus enhancing their nutritional utilization. The present review aims to consolidate recent research progress on the use of protease in aquaculture and conclude the benefits and limitations of its application, thereby providing a comprehensive understanding of the subject and identifying opportunities for future research.

Abstract:This study investigated the effect of dietary supplementation of yeast nucleotides on the growth, non-specific immunity, intestine growth and intestinal microbiota of juvenile hybrid tilapia. Tilapia (initial average weight of 8.02 g) was fed test diets supplemented with a yeast-originated nucleotide mixture (0, 0.15, 0.30, 0.60, and 1.20 g/100 g diet) for 8 weeks. Fish fed the diet with 0.60% nucleotide had significantly higher weight gain than the control group (P < 0.05). Feed efficiency was improved in the fish fed 0.60 and 1.20% nucleotide compared with that in the control group. The optimal doses of nucleotides supplementation for growth and feed efficiency of fish were determined as 0.63 and 0.81%, respectively. Intestinal growth was improved in the 0.30 and 0.60% groups, as indicated by significant increase in intestine length. The fish fed 0.60 and 1.20% nucleotide showed higher super oxide dismutase (SOD) activity and lower malondialdehyde (MDA) level in the liver than the control fish, indicating enhancement of the anti-oxidant status. Serum lysozyme activity was significantly increased in the 0.15 and 0.3% nucleotide supplementation groups, suggesting an enhancement effect on the non-specific immune response. Lastly, dietary nucleotides supplementation exerted moderate influence on the intestinal microbiota of hybrid tilapia. A reduction in the cumulative abundance of putative butyrate-producing species was observed in the intestinal microbiota of fish fed diets with 0.60% nucleotide compared with the control, implying an interaction between dietary nucleotides and butyrate production. Briefly, dietary supplementation with 0.60% nucleotide improve the growth performance, immune activity and intestine growth in tilapia.

Abstract:The safety and function of dietary nucleic acids on human body have received significant attentions in recent years.Adding exogenous nucleotides was widely recommended in infant formula milk powder and infant food for their beneficial functions.In the past,the researches mainly focused on the effect of mononucleotides on intestinal microorganisms.The nucleic acids are taken in mostly through food,and oligonucleotides are the important form of intake nucleic acids.However,there was less study on the influence of oligonucleotides on the intestinal microorganisms.In this study,we employed two kinds of oligonucleotides to investigate their effects on the growth of two typical intestinal bacteria Escherichia coli and Bifidobacteriumadolescentis.Firstly,E.coli and B.adolescentis were cultured separately in the medium lacking nucleic acids,and then two kinds of oligonucleotides (39 nt and 61 nt in length) were added into the medium.The primary results showed that the two oligonucleotides promoted the growth of E.coli and B.adolescentis,respectively.Considering the complex intestinal bacterial community,E.coli and B.adolescentis were then culture together,and real time quantitative PCR was used to quantifying the 16S rRNA gene (rDNA) of the two bacteria.Compared with the control,the added oligonucleotides promoted the B.adolescentis growth.However,it inhibited the growth of E.coli obviously.To study the form of the oligonucleotides appropriate for bacteria,the collected bacteria were broken with ultrasonic wave with the released cytoplasm mixed with the oligonucleotides in order to simulate the existence of oligonucleotides in bacteria.The results of electrophoresis showed that the oligonucleotides remained undestroyed in the medium;however,they were degradable in bacterial cytoplasm.The results also showed that the degradation rate of 39 nt oligonucleotide was faster than that of the 61 nt oligonucleotide in both bacteria.The results indicated that the intestinal microorganisms preferred to degrade oligonucleotides instead of the integrated ones.In conclusion,intestinal microorganisms were able to utilize the exogenous nucleic acids for their growth.Meanwhile,exogenous nucleic acids play a positive role in maintaining the balance of gut microbes.

Abstract:The fastest-growing aquaculture industry plays a crucial role in fulfilling the increased demand for animal protein. However, the outcomes of the sectors are greatly hindered by unexpected disease prevalence, environmental degradation, organic and inorganic pollutants in aquaculture operations, and ineffective feed exploitation to achieve the global food security goal. There has been little research on the impact of nanotechnology on fish nutrition and improved health, despite the fact that the application of nanotechnology in food production systems is being studied globally. In this respect, scientists are generating and inventing new potential ideas and technology to cope with these challenges in aquaculture. Among them, the use of nanoparticles (NPs) has grown in popularity due to their numerous attractive and distinctive features and also tremendous potential to improve aquaculture production. New ideas regarding the application of NPs in fish medicine, drug delivery techniques through NPs, diet formulation to enhance feed efficacy, and as an antiviral or antimicrobial agent to control disease prevalence in aquaculture systems to augment overall production have been discussed. Commercially cultured fish species, including shrimp, Thai koi, Common carp, Grass carp, and Tilapia, have been shown to respond favorably to a variety of nanoparticles (eg. silver, gold, iron, copper, zinc, selenium, and chitosan). Thus nanoparticles researched-based information in finfish and shellfish aquaculture have short-term or long-term prospects and can be used as a potential candidate for nanomedicines combined with fish feed. These new ideas can be studied further before being utilized commercially in the aquaculture fish feed industries and it has huge merit in the future aquaculture need to be considered. Ann. Abstract:Ruminants can convert forage that human can’ t use directly to high quality protein-meat and milk, which is important to agriculture and human society. However, the conversion efficiency is dependent on di-gestibility of plant cell walls. The digestibility of plant material is low at present. It is potential to improve plant fiber digestibility that supplementing ruminant diets with exogenous enzymes, and thus improve the efficiency of feed utilization. This review summarized the application status, modes of action, and development directions of exogenous enzymes. The effects of exogenous enzymes in ruminants had variability, which might be due to enzyme array, addition level, addition mode, substrate type and host productive level. Exogenous enzymes ac-ted in different environments, such as before feeding, in rumen and post-rumen, however, the exactly mecha-nism needed more investigation. In general, exogenous enzymes that used to enhance the feed digestibility would be one of the most important ruminant additives in the future, though they had variability at present.

Abstract:Nanoparticles offer unique physiochemical properties and diverse applications, providing significant advantages for fish culture. Their antimicrobial properties effectively combat bacterial, viral, and fungal infections, addressing crucial challenges in aquaculture. Moreover, nanoparticles are efficient carriers for delivering therapeutic agents, vaccines, and immune stimulants directly to fish, optimizing treatment and minimizing environmental impacts. Therefore, researchers are focusing more on developing optimal dosage and delivery mechanisms and their interaction between nanoparticles and the fish immune system. In this paper, we will discuss the recent applications of nanotechnology in aquaculture, including feed ingredients, fish medicine, wastewater treatment, and fish packaging fisheries accessories. It will also emphasize nanoparticle utilization's potential benefits and challenges in fish culture. Nanoparticles could be applied through fish feed to enhance growth, reproduction, and other aspects, added to water for treatment, or administered via injection. By incorporating nanomaterials into feed, fish improve their appearance and become stronger and healthier, effectively preventing diseases. This paper explores various applications of nanotechnology in fish culture, including enhancing fish medicine, facilitating sex reversal, achieving optimal nutrition, and improving water treatment practices.

Abstract:High-throughput sequencing technologies have been extensively applied to genetics and breeding in the aquaculture industry. To date, many aquaculture animal genomes have been sequenced, and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have become the most popular genetic markers. SNP applications include high-density genetic linkage map construction, quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping, genome-wide association study (GWAS), and genomic selection (GS). In this review, we assess the availability of complete genomes of aquaculture animals and then briefly discuss the sequencing technologies and SNP array for SNPs genotyping. Finally, we summarize the current status of genetic linkage map construction, QTL mapping, GWAS, and GS in aquatic animals. As the overall research programs and aims are similar across aquaculture animals, successful practices in some species might act as reference frameworks for in-depth investigations in other species.

Abstract:Aquaculture, driven by increasing demands for animal proteins and fats, faces multifaceted challenges stemming from environmental factors such as climate change and pollution, alongside issues like disease susceptibility and limited therapeutic tools. However, the emergence of nanotechnology (NNT) offers a promising solution across various aquaculture domains. Nano-enhanced feed has been shown to improve fish growth rates, while nanomaterials are reducing the treatment economy by effectively eliminating contaminants. Genetic manipulation methods combined with nanobiotechnology have revolutionized fish ancestry studies, with advancements such as nanosensors and DNA-based vaccines significantly impacting fish life and immune systems. Moreover, nanotechnology plays a crucial role in enhancing fish processing, enabling sterile packaging and precise flavoring. Utilizing fishery waste through bio-nano-engineering and green nanoparticles offers new post-harvesting practices. Despite ongoing exploration, NNT presents versatile applications, prospects, and challenges in aquaculture, as detailed in this review. This paper provides an in-depth analysis of current trends, challenges, and prospects of NNT applications in aquaculture.

Abstract:The use of microalgae as aquafeed to replace fish meal for fish/shrimp culture is a very hot topic in aquaculture industry. This work discusses the necessity and importance of use microalgae biomass and bio-products as aquafeed and introduces specific methods to produce microalgae-based aquafeed. In addition, specific effects of microalgae-based aquafeed on the growth, immune response, disease resistance, and pigmentation of aquatic animals are evaluated. Last but not the least, an in-depth discussion of the biosynthesis of high-value components, including astaxanthin, PUFAs, and phycocyanin, in algal cells is provided. Hence, this review paper covers the aspects of microalgae cultivation, high-value components induction, and biomass utilization, demonstrating the essential technologies of applying microalgae as aquafeed and the effects of microalgae-rich diet on aquatic animals. In a real-world application, the use of microalgae biomass and bio-products as aquafeed for aquaculture is challenged by some problems, such as bioaccumulation of heavy metals, poor digestibility of algal biomass, anti-nutritional factors, and high cost of biomass utilization. In this paper, potential solutions to the aforementioned problems are discussed. It is expected that in the coming future, with the improvement of technologies, microalgae biomass can be a promising alternative of fish meal in aquaculture.
