Abstract:In this paper, we used orthogonal experiment method and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technology to simulate the thermal environment of the iron and steel workshop. By comparing and analyzing the temperature distribution and air flow of workshops with different window structures, we obtained an optimization of natural ventilation design for industrial workshop. The research results can be used for the structure design or reformation of industrial workshops as reference.

Abstract:Since the thermal conductivity of steel is very high, the high temperature distribution in many scenarios may cause the structure easy to be damaged in terms of performance of ship cabin. Steel is the main constituent material structure of the ship while the long time heating during the fires will result in declining the structure performance of the cabin. Study how to remain or reduce averaged bulkhead temperature becomes an important task in either structure performance design or fireproof optimization. This paper uses FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) which has a large eddy simulation turbulence model to do the simulation on full-scale fire tests of ship under different ventilation conditions. The results show that the HRR (Heat Release Rate) is not proportional to the ventilation area. The error between FDS simulation and experiment are close within 25%.

Abstract:CFD (computational fluid dynamics) method is adopted to simulate the airflow pattern inside a hangar. K- epsilon turbulence model and SIMPLE algorithm are employed. The ventilation effectiveness and the airflow pattern in the hangar are presented and analyzed. For engineering request, only isothermal ventilation is considered. The results reflect some design problems and demonstrate the applicability of the simulation method in hangar-design process.

Abstract:Particulate matter in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining workshop is harmful to workers’ health. This paper studies particulate matter transfer and the performance of various ventilation strategies in a CNC machining workshop. To obtain the boundary condition of the particle field, instruments were installed to obtain the particle size attenuation characteristics and source strength, respectively. The results show that the 99% cumulative mass concentration of particles is distributed within 1.5 μm, and the release rate of particles from the full enclosure. Next, the indoor flow field and particle field were simulated by numerical simulation with the measured boundary conditions. The working area’s age of air, particle concentration, and ventilation efficiency were compared between four displacement ventilation methods and one mixed ventilation method. The results show that the working area’s mean particle concentration and ventilation efficiency under longitudinal displacement ventilation is better than other methods. At the same time, the mean age of air is slightly worse. In addition, mixed ventilation can obtain lower mean age of air, but the particle concentration is higher in the working area. The bilateral longitudinal ventilation can be improved by placing axial circulation fans with vertical upward outlets in the center of the workshop.

Abstract:Natural ventilation is often used in industrial workshops with high intensity heat sources and pollution sources indoors, because such workshops require large amounts of ventilation. In this study, a numerical simulation of the pollutant dispersion between two adjacent industrial workshops is performed, with a focus on the effects of the downstream workshop's thermal conditions on the flow and pollutant dispersion. The results indicate that there is a significant interaction between the wind and buoyancy generated by the downstream workshop's heat source. And this relationship can be evaluated using the Richardson number (Ri). Firstly, the Richardson number affects the ventilation direction of the downstream workshop. When Ri < 1.6, the airflow is mainly driven by wind, which flows from the leeward of the downstream workshop to the street canyon. When Ri > 1.6, buoyancy's effect begins non-negligible, the ventilation of the downstream workshop comes from the street canyon. There is a low concentration of the pedestrian breathing area and downstream workshop, when the airflow is driven by wind. When the airflow is driven by buoyancy, the pollutants migrate to the pedestrian breathing area and the downstream workshop.

Abstract:Based on the CFD simulation calculation and verification of the air flow in the air-cooled reefer container holds, the air flow field variation in the holds is found out and the correct CFD calculation model and method are established. The comparison and analysis are carried out for supply/exhaust ventilation modes of target holds in the aspects of air flow forming, heat exhaust efficiency and ventilation resistance. The results will provide information for the design optimization of the ventilation system of container holds.

Abstract:Theoretical analysis and CFD simulations are applied in the paper to analyze the various possible ventilation mode of exhaust smoke system for a subway station fire. The results show that the effect of exhausting smoke of different ventilation mode is quite different. And for different positions of fire source, the corresponding optimal ventilation mode is various. The subway design code gives the basic principle for the design of exhaust smoke system for the subway station fire, but adopting what kind of ventilation mode should be determined by the analysis on the actual fire case.

Abstract:The blast furnace tapping yard is a typical heavy-pollution industrial plant. Aiming at the problem of high temperature and high dust, the CFD model is established to simulate the coupling of indoor and outdoor wind environment, field measurement data are used to verify the simulation model, and then, the influence of outdoor meteorological parameters on the flow field and smoke emission of blast furnace discharge field is studied. The research results show that the impact of the outdoor wind environment on the air temperature, velocity, and PM2.5 concentration field in the workshop cannot be ignored, and the influence on dust removal in the blast furnace is significant. When the outdoor velocity increases or the temperature decreases, the ventilation volume in the workshop increases exponentially, the capture efficiency of PM2.5 by the dust cover gradually decreases, and the PM2.5 concentration in the working area gradually increases. The outdoor wind direction has the most significant influence on the ventilation volume of industrial plants and the capture rate of PM2.5 by a dust cover. For factories facing north from south, the southeast wind is an unfavorable wind direction with a small ventilation volume, and the concentration of PM2.5 in the area where workers are active exceeds 2.5 mg/m 3 . The concentration of the working area is affected by the dust removal hood and the outdoor wind environment. Therefore, outdoor meteorological conditions under the dominant wind direction in different seasons should be considered when designing the dust removal hood.

Abstract:The movement of air distribution in cargo hold is researched.The numerical model and simulation method of air distribution in cargo hold is established.For supply/exhaust ventilation mode of subject vessel with air distribution,heat exhaust efficiency and ventilation resistance and so on are analyzed and compared each other.It will be used for optimization designing of reefer container cargo hold ventilation system on board and will save energy and improve ventilation efficiency for the system.

Abstract:A large amount of pollutants are generated during tunnel blasting construction, which seriously endangers the life and health of construction personnel. Reasonable design and resolution of ventilation issues have become the key to ensure the safety of engineering construction. This study established a ventilation simulation engineering during tunnel construction using numerical methods of computational fluid dynamics. The mechanism of the turbulent air flow generated by the restriction of air jet and wall is proved by simulating the distribution of the flow field in the tunnel under various ventilation modes. The retarding effect of vortex conducted by air flow and pollutant transport diffusion mechanism resulted in two peak distributions of pollutants. The discharge of harmful gases has both the transport effect of the main airflow and the diffusion effect of the turbulent airflow. Jet fans can effectively accelerate the dispersion of pollutants in the vortex zone. The time cost law of ventilation saving under different ventilation modes is found through comparison. On this basis, a new annular ventilation method combining longitudinal and transverse ventilation in tunnels is proposed. Not only can it greatly save ventilation time and costs, but it also provides a very friendly solution to the residual pollutants in the vicinity of the working face. The research work of this project provides important reference and guidance value for practical engineering.

Abstract:Closure panels fitting like auto door assemblage has crucial influences on vehicle functional quality and welding thermal effects are inneglectable factors on best panel fitting. However, previous researches focus only on geometrical factors. Facing on the mathematical formalization of panels best fitting, a numerical simulation model for the closure panels welding process was proposed, which made interactive use of the direct couple method and sequential incremental coupled method. And an ANSYS-APDL-based algorithm was also proposed, realizing decouple of the thermal-electrical-structural coupled process and automatical running of the simulation process. Actual application indicates that welding thermal effects on closure panels fitting can be got by numerical simulation, which helps continuous improvement for fitting quality.

Abstract:The airflow characteristics in a typical office building with stratum ventilation and displacement ventilation were investigated,respectively,in the conditions of six air changes and 19℃ supply air temperature.The temperature fields,velocity fields and concentration fields in the working area and the surrounding region of human body were analyzed and compared.The air?ow characteristics and thermal comfort with these two ventilation systems were studied by the numerical simulation.The experiment and calculation results show that,with the stratum ventilation,the IAQ and the thermal comfort in the breathing zone will be favourable,and the heat and air pollutants in the breathing zone can be removed effectively.

Abstract:The blast furnace casthouse is a typical heavy-polluting factory building of a steel enterprise. During the tapping process and the taphole opening, the dust concentration in the factory building's workroom can reach tens of thousands mg/m3. Over time, the air pollutants in the workplace can have unwanted consequences on employees' health. This paper selected a typical blast furnace tapping workshop. The flow, temperature, and soot concentration fields in the workshop are measured on site during tapping, and the distribution characteristics are obtained. The performance of the tapping smoke exhaust system is analyzed based on computational fluid dynamics. The findings are as follows: the concentration of PM2.5 in most of the work area was 80μg/m3, but the concentration reached 1mg/m3 near the slag ditch, which was heavy pollution. Because the opening and closing of doors and windows was unreasonable, it was difficult for the particulate matter to accumulate in the deep and middle of the plant discharge. The PMV of the worker's work area is about 3, and the waste heat removal efficiency is 4.2. Hence, this article's finding provides a scientific basis for optimizing the air distribution in the blast furnace cast house's workplace.

Abstract:Energy consumption of air conditioning system is great in workshops where there are dense heat sources from manufacturing equipments.Cigarette factory was taken as an example to analyze the air distribution with displacement ventilation numerically.The result for displacement ventilation was compared with the normal flow pattern.It is shown that the temperature gradient and energy-utilizing coefficient are greater in displacement ventilation than that in normal flow pattern.

Abstract:The intention of this paper is to demonstrate the feasibility of a performance-based solution for providing adequate life safety levels for the occupants of an industrial warehouse. Focus was given to the evaluation of the performance of a smoke venting system and the exit distribution in an industrial warehouse. Quantitative analyses of the available safe egress time and the required safe egress time were carried out using both a simple calculation and a computer modelling technique. The study included a sensitivity analysis to investigate multiple fire scenarios involving variations in design fires, ventilation conditions and number of exits.Computer simulations of fire growth and smoke spread in a large warehouse with a proportionally large ridge vent revealed somewhat interesting smoke movement patterns. The procedure for determining tenability in a well-ventilated high ceiling space is discussed. The result of the study demonstrated the acceptability of the alternative design solution against the established criterion. The limitations of the modelling technique and future research topics are also discussed. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
Experimental and Numerical Investigations on the Flow Field in a Subway-Station Model

Abstract:The development of the CFD technique and its commercial software enables people to use simulation methods to predict the interior environment of subway stations, to appraise the ventilation effect, and to improve the design of the ventilation and fume-discharge system. The energy consumption can be reduced further, while a comfortable environment can be provided. In this paper, the velocity field in a subway station model was simulated using the Fluent software. In order to check up the simulation results, we carried out experiments on the air flows in the model. In the simulation, we used the κ-e equation as the turbulent model, and use the measured data as the boundary conditions. The simulation results agree fairly well with the measured data. The results of the investigations show that by simulating the air flows in the subway station model using the commercial software, fairly accurate data on the interior flow fields can be obtained, which allow us to carry out a comprehensive appraisal of the entire ventilation and fume-discharge system.

Abstract:The transportation equations necessary for the calculation of temperature and ve-locity ventilated or air conditioned room are presented in the paper. The tubulence is modeled by a new zero-equation. The software, known as STACH-3, for the numerical simulation of indoor air distribution is developed with SIMPLE algorithm. With the software, the distribu-tions of temperature and velocity of a displacement ventilation room are predicted and the flow pattern are evaluated, which can favor the ventilation and air conditioning design.

Abstract:Numerical simulation method is used to study the influence of supply air velocity of air curtain for some hood to pollutant overflow , cook′s thermal comfort and exhaust air volume .The computational results show that for the hood studied , low supply air velocity of air curtain can lead to overflow of pollutants , when the velocity of air curtain is greater than 0.4 m/s, the overflow of pollutants disappeared .Meanwhile the influence of supply air velocity of air curtain to the cook′s thermal comfort is also discussed , and the maximum supply air velocity of air curtain is given by the simulation .

Abstract:The air intake system resistance directly influences the performance of ships’ power system.To investigate the issue,this paper establishes a discrete numerical model regarding the flow field of a ship air intake system.Specifically,the Navier-Stokes equation is first solved using FLUENT,and the results under different working conditions are then discussed.It is observed that as the vertical hatch distance in creases,the resistance coefficient drops.By adding a commutating board,the local resistance coefficient as well as the total resistance coefficient are lowered by 8% compared to the original design.Furthermore,the effects the inlet temperature on resistance coefficient are seen to be vital:when the inlet temperature is increased from 15 ℃ to 40 ℃,the resistance coefficient decreases by 8.5%.
