Abstract:Abstract In the present study, we show the electrochemical synthesis of Sb, Sn, and Sb-Sn nanowire arrays from the ionic liquid 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonate ([Py 1,4 ]TfO) via templated-assisted approaches. Commercially available track etched polycarbonate template with a nominal pore diameter of 400 nm was utilized as a template. The nanowires were electrochemically deposited inside the pores of the template; then, a supporting copper layer was electrodeposited on the back side of the template. Subsequently, the template was dissolved with dichloromethane, and the structural morphology of the nanowire structures was explored by high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray (EDX). Freestanding, mechanically stable nanowire arrays of Sb, Sn, and Sb-Sn with an average pore diameter of 400 nm were obtained. The charge/discharge characteristics of the electrodeposited nanowire films were investigated to explore the Li storage capacity of the fabricated electrodes. The results revealed that the electrodeposited nanowire films are promising anode candidates for the future generation of Li-ion batteries. Graphical abstract

Abstract:Titanium dioxide nanotube and nanorod arrays were successfully prepared by the combination of solgel and AAO (anodic aluminum oxide) membrane fabrication. The precursor of titanium dioxide solgel is tetra-isopropyl titanite, and the dipping processing is based on direct dipping or under negative pressure. The products were characterized with FE-SEM, HR-TEM and XRD after heat treatment of samples at 450℃ and removing AAO membranes with NaOH. The results show that the template method is effective in fabricating nanotube arrays, and the products were polycrystalline. The outer diameter of nanotubes is determined by the pore size of template. The pore size and thickness of the membranes used in the experiments were 200 nm and 60 μm respectively.

Abstract:Crystalline silver nanowire arrays (see Figure) with high aspect ratio are produced here by electrodeposition from a reverse hexagonal liquid-crystalline phase. Enhancement of the alignment is shown to be possible by applying a high electric field gradient during deposition. High-density bundles can be obtained by washing the deposited material and single wires can easily be retrieved by sonication of these bundles.

Abstract:A novel, simple and efficient procedure was developed to electrodeposit one-dimensional Ag nanowires from reverse hexagonal liquid crystalline phases by using their one-dimensional cylindrical aqueous microdomains as space-confined reactors. Using this soft-template approach, flexible Ag nanowire arrays with wire diameter of 15-30 nm, high aspect ratio over 1000, and high wire densities over 10 11 wires/cm 2 were obtained. The Ag nanowire arrays can be easily collected by simply washing. The nanowires obtained can be used either in high-density bundle form or as single wires after dispersion by untrasonication.

Abstract:We have demonstrated the crystalline ZnO–Al2O3 core–shell nanowire structure by atomic layer deposition (ALD) at a temperature 100°C. The core–shell structure could have potential applications in the fabrication of ZnO field effect transistor. After dissolving the ZnO core, shape defined, rigid and robust crystalline Al2O3 shelled nanostructures have been fabricated. Nanowire ZnO nanostructures have been replicated by alumina shell. This is one of the most effective techniques for producing core–shell or shell/hollowed nanostructures of any desired objects. The Al2O3 shelled nanostructures could have potential applications as space confined nanoreactors, drug delivery, nanofluidic channels and optical transmitting.

Abstract:Titanium dioxide nanotube array films on aluminum plate were prepared via liquid phase deposition (LPD) method. The samples were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The results show that the nanotube array films’ morphology depends on the anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) structure and deposition time. The titanium dioxide nanotube’s outside diameter is about 250 nm, the wall thickness is approximately 40 nm. The as-prepared TiO2array films are amorphous and anatase appeared after calcining at 400°C for 2 hrs. FT-IR spectrum indicates that there are lots of hydroxyl groups on the surface of AAO. When AAO was immersed into 0.1 M (NH4)2TiF6solution at room temperature, AAO was dissolved in the solution and the holes became wide. The hydrolysis reaction was shifted to the right-hand side, TiO2particles locked in-situ on the inner surface of the anodic alumina pore induced by hydroxyl group, thus nanotube array film was obtained.
Large-scale and highly ordered 1D nanostructural arrays by template-assisted electrodeposition

Abstract:Controlling fabrication of mono-dispersed and well-aligned arrays of one-dimensional (ID) nanostructures, nanowires or nanotubes, will benefit a lot for the investigation of their physical properties and their potential use in nanolasers, chemical and biological sensors, and nanoelectrode arrays for solar energy conversion and catalysis. In our previous works, we have fabricated a broad range of semiconductor nanowire arrays by electrochemical synthesis in template. In this present, we design a well-controlled process to fabricate uniform nanotube arrays through a multi-step template replication and electrodeposition approach. The resulting nanotubes with uniform wall thickness and diameters along the entire tubes are highly ordered and mono-dispersed. Moreover, we develop a supercritical drying route to avoid the clustering or collapse of the nanowire arrays caused by capillary force during the removing of the template. By this strategy, we have obtained large-scale, non-collapse, well-aligned nanowire arrays on conductive substrates. Final, the uses of these nanowire arrays for future nanodevices are discussed.

Abstract:Well-aligned, catalyst-free nanoscale carbon tubules array was prepared by organic compound vapour deposition method using anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) as a template. The experiment of soft x-ray channelling in such carbon tubules array deposited in AAO template was performed at Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility. The transmission of x-rays in carbon tubules array with AAO template support was found even higher than that in bare AAO template at high-energy part of energy spectrum though the porous area of the former was smaller than that of the latter. A qualitative explanation is presented to interpret our results.

The AAO membrane with the barrier layer has been directly used as template in electrodeposition. The as-synthesized products are characterized by SEM, TEM and resonance Raman spectroscopy. Abstract:Template-based electrochemical synthesis has widely been used to produce metal nanowires and nanorods. Commercially available filtration membranes, such as anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) and polycarbonate track etch membranes, have commonly been utilized as hard templates for this purpose. In this process, a thick metal film is usually sputtered or vacuum evaporated onto one side of the membrane to block the pores and serve as the working electrode for the subsequent electrodeposition. Here, we show that during the deposition of the metal electrode for AAO membranes, the electrode metal diffuses into the pores and is deposited on the pore walls which leads to preferential electrodeposition of metal on the walls and therefore forms metal tubes. This phenomenon has been utilized to fabricate short nanotubes by carefully controlling the electrodeposition conditions. The process is a straightforward method for any electroplatable materials to form nanoscale tubular structures. The effects of working electrodes and electrodeposition conditions on the formation of tubular structures are discussed in detail. A new mechanism based on this simple fact is proposed to explain the formation of Ni tubes by Ni-Cu co-deposition. Also, we demonstrate how to distinguish magnetic nanotubes from nanorods by a simple magnetic measurement.

Abstract:We describe a new synthetic approach to fabricate Ni/Cu nanocable arrays by co-depositing nickel and copper atoms into the pores of anodic alumina membranes and to fabricate Ni nanotube arrays by selectively etching the Cu cores from the Ni/Cu nanocable arrays. The formation of the Ni-shelled Ni/Cu nanocables is attributed to the Ni ions adsorbed on the pore walls by a chemical complexation through hydroxyl groups. By varying electrodepositon parameters in this technique, we can control the lengths of nanocables and nanotubes, the shell thickness of the nanocables, and the wall thickness and surface morphology of the nanotubes.

Abstract:In this paper,a novel approach for immobilization of nanosized TiO_2 is described.High density and uniform titanium dioxide nanorod array film on Al plate was successful prepared via liquid phase deposition(LPD) method by immersing the anodic aluminum oxide(AAO) templates in an aqueous ammonium hexafluorotitanate ((NH_4)_2TiF_6) solution.The phase and microstructure of the nanorod array films were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).It was found that the mean diameters of nanorod were 60nm;the phase of as-deposited TiO_2 array film was amorphous,and it transformed to anatase TiO_2 after heattreating at 400℃ for 2h in air.

Abstract:Large-scale arrays of highly oriented single-crystal ZnO nanotubes (ZNTs) are successfully fabricated on transparent conductive substrates by a simple method from an aqueous solution at a low temperature (typically 85°C). The tubular morphology of the ZnO nanostructures is formed by a defect-selective chemical etching of the electrodeposited ZnO nanorods. The size of the ZNT arrays is determined by that of ZnO nanorod arrays which can be readily controlled by tuning several electrodeposition parameters. The present method can be employed to prepare ZNT arrays on flexible, conductive substrates, as well as on patterned conductive substrates.

Abstract:Anatase single-crystal nanotubes were obtained using an in situ templated method. First, highly ordered titania arrays were formed through an anodization process in H3PO4 electrolytes containing 0.5 wt% HE Under optimized conditions titania nanotubes with a diameter of up to 100 nm and a length of up to 1.1 mu m were prepared. Second, the crystallization and stability of the titania nanotubes were studied in air at elevated temperatures. Anatase single-crystal nanotubes were fabricated after annealing the sample in air at 450 degrees C. The anatase single-crystal structure was verified by selected area diffraction pattern and HRTEM images.

Abstract:In this paper, crystalline iron-nickel alloy nanostructures were successfully prepared from two cationic pyridinium derivatives as soft templates in solution. The crystal structure and micrograph of FeNi alloy nanostructures were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, and the content was confirmed by energy-dispersive spectrometry. The results indicated that the as-prepared nanostructures showed slightly different diameter ranges with the change of cationic pyridinium derivatives on the surface. The experimental data indicated that the adsorption of cationic pyridinium compounds on the surface of particles reduces the surface charge, leading to an isotropic distribution of the residual surface charges. The magnetic behaviours of as-prepared FeNi alloy nanostructures exhibited disparate behaviours, which could be attributed to their grain sizes and distinctive structures. The present work may give some insight into the synthesis and character of new alloy nanomaterials with special nanostructures using new soft templates.
