Abstract:Porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates were prepared by a two-step aluminum anodic oxidation process. Nanowires, microspheres, and hexagonal nanoplates of PbO were successfully prepared by an improved sol-gel method combined with AAO templates. On the anodized external surface and the surface-dissolved barrier layer of AAO, hexagonal nanoplates of PbO with a diameter of 2 mu m and a thickness of 100 nm and microspheres of PbO with a diameter of 400 nm were obtained, respectively, where hexagonal patterns and circular patterns of the external surface appearance of AAO acted as templates. Nanowires with a diameter of 80 nm and a length of 10 mu m were also synthesized within the pores of AAO, consistent with the diameters and thicknesses of the pores. All of the samples were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy and powder X-ray diffraction pattern.

Abstract:PbMoO4 nanoparticles and pagodalike microcrystals have been controllably prepared by a simple sonochemical method without any surfactants. The as-prepared powders were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that the pH played a crucial role on the controllable synthesis of PbMoO4. Pagoda like microcrystals could be formed on acid condition, and nanocrystals were obtained in the case of pH 7 and pH 14. The synthesis mechanism was also discussed. Abstract:Single-crystalline tetragonal perovskite lead titanate (PbTiO3) nanosheets with dominant (001) facets have been successfully synthesized by employing layered K2Ti6O13 nanofibers as titanium sources. The as-prepared PbTiO3 nanosheets were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM, and selected-area electron diffraction. In order to understand the formation mechanism of the PbTiO3 nanosheets, a series of time-dependent experiments were performed. Because of the substitution of Pb(2+) ions for K(+) ions, the TiO6 octahedral lamellas exfoliate from the layered K2Ti6O13 crystal structure. Then the exfoliated TiO6 octahedral lamellas as templates transform to lamellar PbTiO3 species by reacting with the dehydrated Pb(2+) ions. With hydrothermal treatment prolongation, the lamellar PbTiO3 species crystallize to single-crystalline PbTiO3 nanosheets. Moreover, the thickness of the synthesized single-crystalline PbTiO3 nanosheets can be tailored in the range of 10-50 nm by controlling the hydrothermal treatment time. In addition, the band gap and the optoelectronic properties of the single-crystalline PbTiO3 nanosheets are investigated by UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence.

The powders were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and photoluminescent spectra techniques (PL). It was found that the precursor played a key role in the formation of PbTiO3 microrods.

Abstract:In this paper, we report a simple sonochemical method to synthesize PbWO4 dendrites without any templates. The obtained products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The effect of the pH value, precursor and reaction time on the formation of PbWO4 dendrites was investigated. It is found that the obtained PbWO4 dendrites were composed of clusters of nanorods. It is rational to expect that dendritic structures of other oxides may also be synthesized by this simple method.

Abstract:Abstract PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The effect of NaOH concentration, reaction temperature and time on nucleation and growth of PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals was investigated. As the 0.05 mol/L PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 precursors were heated at 200 °C for 21 h with NaOH concentration of 0.5 mol/L, the tetragonal PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals were formed, and the grain size was more than 20 nm. With increasing the NaOH concentration from 0.5 to 1.5 mol/L, the grain size of PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals decreased. When the precursors were heated at different temperatures (140 °C to 200 °C) for 21 h with 1.0 mol/L NaOH, single-phase PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals were obtained at 160 °C to 200 °C. With increasing the reaction temperature from 160 °C to 200 °C, the grains size of PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals increased from 5 nm to 9 nm. When the precursors were heated at 160 °C in different reaction times from 6 h to 21 h, the evolution from amorphous to crystalline PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals in correlation with the reaction time was observed. Single crystalline PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanocrystals with narrow size distribution (from 5 nm to 9 nm) were synthesized by controlling the NaOH concentration, reaction temperature and time. The obtained results can find potential application in preparing PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 thin films on flexible substrates.

Abstract:Titanium dioxide nanotube and nanorod arrays were successfully prepared by the combination of solgel and AAO (anodic aluminum oxide) membrane fabrication. The precursor of titanium dioxide solgel is tetra-isopropyl titanite, and the dipping processing is based on direct dipping or under negative pressure. The products were characterized with FE-SEM, HR-TEM and XRD after heat treatment of samples at 450℃ and removing AAO membranes with NaOH. The results show that the template method is effective in fabricating nanotube arrays, and the products were polycrystalline. The outer diameter of nanotubes is determined by the pore size of template. The pore size and thickness of the membranes used in the experiments were 200 nm and 60 μm respectively.
Synthesis and characterization of beta-PbO2 nanorods and Pb3O4 nanocrystallites

Abstract:Phase-pure beta-PbO2 nanorods with diameter of 10-20 nm and length up to 400 nm with an aspect ratio >20 were synthesized through direct oxidation of Pb(Ac)(2) by NaClO under alkaline conditions. The obtained beta-PbO2 nanorods were then decomposed at 420 degreesC to produce Pb3O4 nanocrystals with crystallite size similar to20 nm. The reaction conditions were optimized on the basis of detailed investigations of the influences of reaction temperature, time 9 concentraion of NaClO, and pH on the products. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope were employed for the characterization of the structure, compositions and morphology of the obtained nanocrystalline products.

Abstract:Single-crystalline PbCrO4 nanorods, nanowires and amorphous PbCr4O13 nanotubes have been successfully synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method in the presence of L-lysine. The morphology and crystal structure of the products can be easily adjusted by changing the reaction temperature. The PbCr4O13/PbS nanocomposites can be further synthesized by using the amorphous nanotubes as template and introducing S ions to the reaction system. The morphology and structure of the lead chromate 1D nanostructures and the PbCr4O13/PbS nanocomposites were systematically studied by means of XRD, SEM, TEM, HRTEM. The optical properties of the final products were also investigated in detail.

Abstract:PbCrO4 with different morphologies have been synthesized via a facile sonochemical route from an aqueous solution of lead acetate and potassium dichromate in the presence of nitrilotriacetate acid (H(3)NTA). The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The pH and the concentration of complexing reagent were found to have close relation with morphology of the final product. The possible growth mechanism of PbCrO4 microcube has been proposed. UV-Vis spectra and room-temperature photoluminescence of the PbCrO4 micro/nanostructures have also been investigated. Results showed that all the samples possessed strong photoluminescence (PL) properties, suggesting that the micro/nanostructures could be used in novel optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) is commonly used as a starting template for fabrication of several kinds of functional nanoscale devices due to its homogeneous nanohole structure with high aspect ratio. In this paper, high density and uniform titanium dioxide nanotube array films were prepared via liquid phase deposition method by immersing the AAO templates in an aqueous ammonium hexafluorotitanate solution. The phase and microstructure of the nanotube array films were characterized by X-ray diffraction and field-emission scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the mean inner diameters of nanotube are 40-100 nm, mainly depended on different templates and post treatment condition; the phase of as-deposited TiO2 array film was amorphous, while it became anatase at above 400°C.

Abstract:Ordered lead dioxide nanowires were synthesized by electrodeposition through an alumina porous membrane. The reduction charge recorded on the first cyclic voltammogram in 1M H2SO4 is about three times larger for PbO2 nanowires compared to PbO2 thin film.

Abstract:By using mesoporous silica thin films with different porestructure as templates, employing an electrodeposition method, Cu an ZnO nanostructures were synthesized and characterized respectively. By using hexagonal mesostructured template, metal Cu nanowires with diameter of 7 nm were derived and by using body-centered mesostructured template, Cu nanoparticles with dumbbell-like morphology were obtained. As for the ZnO nanostructures, channels of the silica templates were fully occupied with the semiconductor, and ZnO/SiO2 nanocomposites with different mesostructure were prepared. This approach can he further expended to nanostructures with alternative components, which provided a new method for synthesizing small-sized nanostructures by electrodeposition.

Abstract:The hexagonal liquid crystal mediated synthesis of nanostructured PbS was studied. Thioacetamide and lead acetate were used as the sulfide and lead source, respectively. It was found that the nanohole structure of PdS was formed in this system.

Abstract:In this paper, the metal aluminum oxide ceramic nanotubes (M–Al–O, M=Zn, Mg and Ba) were synthesized by the use of porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) template. Metal oxide nanotubes were firstly formed from the thermal decomposition of respective nitrates within the pores of AAO templates. Then M–Al–O nanotubes were synthesized through the solid-state chemical reaction between the metal oxide nanotubes and AAO. TEM observation shows that the as-prepared samples are nanotubes and XRD measurement reveals that M–Al–O nanotubes (M=Zn, Mg and Ba) are crystalline in nature with spinel structure.

Abstract:Well-aligned, catalyst-free nanoscale carbon tubules array was prepared by organic compound vapour deposition method using anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) as a template. The experiment of soft x-ray channelling in such carbon tubules array deposited in AAO template was performed at Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility. The transmission of x-rays in carbon tubules array with AAO template support was found even higher than that in bare AAO template at high-energy part of energy spectrum though the porous area of the former was smaller than that of the latter. A qualitative explanation is presented to interpret our results.
