Abstract:Fast Li‐metal depletion and severe anode pulverization are the most critical obstacles for the energy‐dense Li‐metal full batteries using thin Li‐metal anodes (<50 µm). Here, a wavy‐nanostructured solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) with fast ion transfer kinetics is reported, which can promote high‐efficiency Li‐metal plating/stripping (>98% at 4 mAh cm−2) in conventional carbonate electrolyte. Cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (cryo‐TEM) further reveals the fundamental relationship between wavy‐nanostructured SEI, function, and the electrochemical performance. The wavy SEI with greatly decreased surface diffusion resistance can realize grain coarsening of Li‐metal deposition and exhaustive dissolution of active Li‐metal during the stripping process, which can effectively alleviate “dead Li” accumulation and anode pulverization problems in practical full cells. Under highly challenging conditions (45 µm Li‐metal anodes, 4.3 mAh cm−2 high capacity LiNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 cathodes), full cells exhibit significantly improved cycling lifespan (170 cycles; 20 cycles for control cells) via the application of wavy SEI.

Abstract:Modern civilization and cutting-edge technologies and tools are highly dependent on energy storage devices and demand efficient and long-lasting high-energy-density storage devices. Lithium metal batteries have surpassed their competitors concerning energy density due to their inherent high specific capacity (3860 mAh/g) and the lowest electrochemical potential (-3.04 V vs. standard hydrogen electrode), proving to be one of the most favorable energy storage devices for smart and mobile gadgets, electric automobiles, grid storage, etc. However, safety-threatening and performance-decay challenges associated with lithium metal anodes, such as lithium dendrite formation, uncontrolled parasitic reactions between Li-metal and electrolyte, low coulombic efficiency, dead Li-formation, etc., restrict its employment in practical batteries. The root cause of the dendrite formation is poor Li-ion conductivity of bulk lithium metal, which results in an uneven electric field distribution, leading to non-uniform Li deposition/stripping upon repeated charge/discharge. Herein, a facile chemical reduction process is being opted to fabricate a highly Li-ion diffusive Li-Sn-based artificial SEI layer on the lithium metal surface to prevail over the above-mentioned issues. Therefore, upon careful concentration investigation of reactants, 25 mM precursor concentration (SnCl 4 in EC: DMC in 1:1 volume ration) demonstrated the best electrochemical performance, revealing a cumulative capacity of over 700 mAh/cm 2 at a current density of 1 mA/cm 2 for 1 h in a symmetric cell. Physical characterizations (XRD and SEM-EDS) showed a thin layer containing Li-Sn alloys along with LiCl formed at the lithium metal surface. Possessing high Li-ion diffusivity, Li-Sn alloyed hybrid anode illustrated a gradual decrease in the charge transfer resistance on increasing the concentration, thus, lower overpotential in symmetric cells, in contrast to pristine Li-metal. However, an increase in the electrical resistance has been observed on increasing the precursor concentration due to the presence of the insulating LiCl phase in the protective layer. Moreover, in-situ optical microscopy demonstrated more uniform and on-surface Li-deposition for the hybrid electrode, whereas mossy and dendritic growth on bare Li-metal. Full cells prepared with Li-Sn alloyed anode against NMC532 cathode illustrated stable cycling up to 150 cycles; contrastingly, the cell with pristine Li-metal showed a drastic capacity fade just after 100 cycles, demonstrating the inclination towards safer lithium metal batteries.

Abstract:The rechargeable lithium metal batteries (LMBs) have attracted considerable attention as the promising candidates of next-generation energy storage technologies, but they often suffer from the dendrite growth and short lifespan, especially at high current densities and low negative/positive capacity (N/P) ratios. Herein, a facile, low-cost, and scalable route was developed to prepare the 3D porous and Li-rich Sn–Li alloy scaffolds to ensure homogeneous Li plating/stripping under high current density. The Li-rich Sn–Li alloy scaffolds exhibit considerable affinity with Li, which can not only guide the uniform Li deposition without dendrites formation, but also re-store active Li to supplement the irreversible Li loss, thus contributing to the long-term cycling stability. As a result, Li||Cu cell maintains an average Coulombic efficiency of 96.5 % even at a current density of 5 mA cm−2. When coupling this anode with LFP cathode, the thus-assembled full cells achieve a superior capacity retention of 87 % over 400 cycles at 5 C. Stable cycling of LMBs with a low N/P capacity ratio of 1.5 is also demonstrated, showing the prominence of this strategy for developing high-energy-density LMBs.

Abstract:Only low‐mass‐ratio alloying element A (A represents alloying element, Ag or Mg in this work) is needed and the high active Li capacity is ensured. Li‐ion extracts form the Li‐A solid solution anode make alloying element A gradually get enriched on the electrode surface. Such an alloying element A rich electrode surface would reduce the Li nucleation barrier and help to achieve planar Li deposition during the Li plating process. The pursuit of high energy density Li‐based rechargeable batteries has intrigued numerous research interest on Li metal anode. However, several significant challenges, including severe parasitic reactions and growth of Li dendrites, lead to fast electrode failure and impede its practical implantation. Herein, it is revealed that the dynamic concentration of alloying element in Li solid solution can significantly improve the cycling stability. It is demonstrated that the alloying element of Li solid solution continuously evolved in the reaction layer on cycling. Alloying element got enriched on anode surface after Li stripping, and re‐dispersed into the deposited Li during Li plating processes. The alloying element‐rich surface can reduce the Li nucleation barrier and promote the uniform Li plating behavior. Ultrathin Li solid solution foils are fabricated, and the dynamic alloying element concentration mechanism is further verified, and the cycling lifespan of pure Li is doubled. Consequently, a 1.4 Ah laminated pouch cell with ultrathin Li solid solution anode (30 μm) exhibits high energy density of 836 Wh L−1 and stable cycling performance under the harsh conditions with low negative/positive capacity (N/P) ratio of 2 and electrolyte/capacity (E/C) ratio of 2.6 g Ah−1.

Abstract:Lithium metal is the ultimate anode choice for high energy rechargeable lithium batteries owing to its ultra-high theoretical capacity, however, Li dendrites and low Coulombic efficiency (CE) caused by disordered Li plating restrict its practical application. Herein, we develop an ultrathin Sn-decorated Cu substrate (Sn@Cu) fabricated by an electroless plating method to induce ordered Li nucleation and growth behavior. The lithiophilic Sn interfacial layer is found to play a critical role to lower the Li nucleation over-potential and promote fast Li-migration kinetics, and the underlying mechanism is revealed using the first principle calculations. Accordingly, a dense dendrite-free and Li deposition with large granular morphology is obtained, which significantly improved the CE and cycling performance of Li||Sn@Cu half cells symmetric cells. Symmetric cells using the Li-Sn@Cu electrode display a much-prolonged life span (>1200 h) with low overpotential (∼18 mV) at a high current density of 1 mA cm−2. Moreover, full cells paired with commercial LiFePO4 cathode (1.8 mAh cm−2) deliver enhanced cycling stability (0.5 C, 300 cycles) and excellent rate performance. This work provides a simple and effective way to bring about high efficiency and long lifespan substrates for practical applications.

Abstract:Abstract Exploiting thin Li metal anode is essential for high-energy-density battery, but is severely plagued by the poor processability of Li, as well as the uncontrollable Li plating/stripping behaviors and Li/electrolyte interface. Herein, a thickness/capacity-adjustable thin alloy-type Li/LiZn@Cu anode is fabricated for high-energy-density Li metal batteries. The as-formed lithophilic LiZn alloy in Li/LiZn@Cu anode can effectively regulate Li plating/stripping and stabilize the Li/electrolyte interface to deliver the hierarchical Li electrochemistry. Upon charging, the Li/LiZn@Cu anode firstly acts as Li source for homogeneous Li extraction. At the end of charging, the de-alloy of LiZn nanostructures further supplements the Li extraction, actually playing the Li compensation role in battery cycling. While upon discharging, the LiZn alloy forms just at the beginning, thereby regulating the following Li homogeneous deposition. The reversibility of such an interesting process is undoubtedly verified from the electrochemistry and in-situ XRD characterization. This work sheds light on the facile fabrication of practical Li metal anodes and useful Li compensation materials for high-energy-density Li metal batteries.

Abstract:The practical application of lithium (Li) metal anode, the most potential candidate for upgraded Li batteries, is impeded by the uncontrollable growth of Li dendrites and the infinite volume variation during cycling. Here, a self-supporting Sn modified porous carbon nanofiber skeleton (Sn/CNF) is constructed to boost the dendrite-free Li deposition. During the initial lithiation stage, the 3D skeleton with a homogeneous distribution of ultrafine Sn is activated from an in-situ electrochemically generated alloying reaction of Li to form lithiophilic Li5Sn2. The Li5Sn2 alloy delivers a low nucleation overpotential, works as continuous Li nucleation grains, and homogenizes Li+ flux with fast charge transfer kinetics. Meanwhile, the restrained volume expansion with large Li accommodation is available owing to the confinement of Li plating on high porous Sn/CNF with fine mechanical properties. As expected, a prolonged lifespan of symmetrical cells of Sn/CNF@Li for 2000 h at 0.5 mA cm–2 with a low polarization is achieved. The cell with a LiFePO4 cathode exhibits a steady cycling for 300 cycles with an average CE of 99.6%. This work offers new insights for alloy modified 3D scaffolds to guide Li nucleation and ionic transport for Li metal anode.

Abstract:Lithium metal anodes offer high theoretical capacity and low redox potential but face challenges like dendritic growth, fragile solid electrolyte interface (SEI), "dead lithium" formation, and volume expansion. Composite anodes or artificial SEIs can address these issues, but often suffer from poor lithiophilicity and mass burdens. This study presents a Li–Zn–B alloy anode combining a Li–Zn lithiophilic layer with a bulk Li–B alloy. The Li–Zn lithiophilic layer, formed by magnetron sputtering of Zinc oxide (ZnO), improves surface lithiophilicity. Symmetrical cells with this alloy cycled stably for 1300 (1 mA cm −2 , 1 mAh cm −2 ) and 550 h (2 mA cm −2 , 2 mAh cm −2 ) with minimal overpotentials. The LiBZn||NCM811 full cell showed a specific discharge capacity of 130.8 mAh/g and stable Coulombic efficiency of 98.9 % after 300 cycles.

Abstract:The volume expansion during Li ion insertion/extraction remains an obstacle for the application of Sn-based anode in lithium ion-batteries. Herein, the nanoporous (np) Cu6Sn5 alloy and Cu6Sn5/Sn composite were applied as a lithium-ion battery anode. The as-dealloyed np-Cu6Sn5 has an ultrafine ligament size of 40 nm and a high BET-specific area of 15.9 m2 g−1. The anode shows an initial discharge capacity as high as 1200 mA h g−1, and it remains a capacity of higher than 600 mA h g−1 for the initial five cycles at 0.1 A g−1. After 100 cycles, the anode maintains a stable capacity higher than 200 mA h g−1 for at least 350 cycles, with outstanding Coulombic efficiency. The ex situ XRD patterns reveal the reverse phase transformation between Cu6Sn5 and Li2CuSn. The Cu6Sn5/Sn composite presents a similar cycling performance with a slightly inferior rate performance compared to np-Cu6Sn5. The study demonstrates that dealloyed nanoporous Cu6Sn5 alloy could be a promising candidate for lithium-ion batteries.

Abstract:Anode-free batteries possess high energy density and avoid the use of reactive Li during battery fabrication, and thus are highly desirable for high energy density batteries. However, they encounter fast failure due to the inferior electrochemical reversibility. One main reason is the fast inactive Li accumulation caused by the coupling of side reactions and mechanics during complicated Li plating/stripping processes, among which, mechanical stability of plated Li on current collector is crucial but often ignored. To achieve good electro-mechanical stability, we construct a stable lithium-metal alloy interphase for Li plating, which sharps the Li deposition morphology and enhances the connection with deposited Li. The Li-metal alloy possesses reduced Li nucleation energy barrier and strong bonding with metallic Li, which enables dense and chunky Li deposits with firm connection with the substrate in sharp contrast the fully peeling off of metallic Li for bare Cu after 50 Li plating/stripping cycles. A Li-Sn alloy-modified Cu anode displays stable Li plating/stripping cycling with average Coulombic efficiency of 94.1% for 400 cycles at 1 mA cm–2 and 1 mAh cm–2, significantly outperforming the bare Cu electrode. As a demonstration, in an anode-free cell with Li rich Mn-based cathode, 16.7% increase in capacity and 14.1% increase in capacity retention for 20 cycles are achieved using alloy-modified anode. This sheds new insights on the improvement of dynamic mechanical stability between Li deposits and current collector by regulating Li plating and its connection with the current collector and guides the design of high-performance initial-Li-free anode.

Abstract:Lithium metal has gained extensive attention as the most ideal candidate for next-generation battery anode owing to the ultrahigh specific capacity and the lowest electrochemical potential. However, uncontrollable dendrite growth and huge volume variation extremely restrict the future deployment of lithium metal batteries. Herein, we report metal chalcogenide SnSSe with unique nanoplate stacking structure as a robust substrate for stable Li metal anode. During the initial Li plating process, lithiophilic Li22Sn5 alloy and Li2S/Li2Se sites are obtained via in-situ electrochemical reaction of Li metal and SnSSe. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation demonstrates that the formed Li2S/Li2Se achieves low Li diffusion energy barrier, ensuring rapid Li+ migration. Li22Sn5 alloy provides strong nucleation sites, promoting uniform Li nucleation. Furthermore, in-situ optical microscopy analysis suggests that the synthesized effect fundamentally inhibits lithium dendrite growth. Consequently, SnSSe modified Cu foil delivered an ultralow nucleation overpotential, superior cycling stability with 450 cycles (Coulombic efficiency, >98%), and excellent plating/stripping behavior over 2200 h at 0.5 mA cm−2. Moreover, the brilliant reversible cycles and rate capability were also realized in Li@SnSSe//LiFePO4 (LFP) full cell, shedding light on the feasibility of SnSSe for stable and dendrite-free lithium metal anode.

Abstract:Li metal holds great promise to be the ultimate anode choice owing to its high specific capacity and low redox potential. However, processing Li metal into thin‐film anode with high electrochemical performance and good safety to match commercial cathodes remains challenging. Herein, a new method is reported to prepare ultrathin, flexible, and high‐performance Li–Sn alloy anodes with various shapes on a number of substrates by directly stamping a molten metal solution. The printed anode is as thin as 15 µm, corresponding to an areal capacity of ≈3 mAh cm–2 that matches most commercial cathode materials. The incorporation of Sn provides the nucleation center for Li, thereby mitigating Li dendrites as well as decreasing the overpotential during Li stripping/plating (e.g., <10 mV at 0.25 mA cm–2). As a proof‐of‐concept, a flexible Li‐ion battery using the ultrathin Li–Sn alloy anode and a commercial NMC cathode demonstrates good electrochemical performance and reliable cell operation even after repetitive deformation. The approach can be extended to other metal/alloy anodes such as Na, K, and Mg. This study opens a new door toward the future development of high‐performance ultrathin alloy‐based anodes for next‐generation batteries.

Dendrite-free Li Metal Anode by Lowering Deposition Interface Energy with Cu99Zn Alloy Coating

Abstract:Li should be the ultimate anode due to its highest theoretical capacity and lowest electrochemical potentials. However, the dendrite formation has been the grand challenge hindering their direct use. Here we modified the commercial anode Cu current collectors with atomically distributed Zn artificial defects by magnetic sputtering of Cu99Zn. Zn has definite solubility in Li metal and can form solid solution before Li metal deposition, lowering the deposition interface energy between current collectors and metal anodes. With atomically distributed seeds, significantly improved performance of Li metal anodes was achieved with depressed dendrite formation on both planar and 3D Cu. The Li-Li symmetric cell can be stably cycled for more than 1000 h. Coulombic efficiency over 98% at Li deposition capacity of 10 mAh cm(-2) could be maintained. We anticipate that high performance lithium metal batteries could be realized by using this anode combined with optimized electrolytes and cathodes.

Abstract:The cost-effective mass production of high-performance ultrathin lithium metal anodes is a bottleneck hindering the commercialization of high-energy-density Li metal batteries. Compared to complex and expensive conventional fabrication techniques including sputtering, electrodeposition, and pressure-rolling, the wet coating of molten Li on a Cu sheet is a very promising strategy. Unfortunately, the wettability of molten Li on the Cu surface is very poor, creating difficulty in achieving a uniform Li film. Herein, a facile and efficient approach to the application of melt coatings is realized through the alloying reaction between molten Li and the heated Cu surface. An ultrathin and uniform Li film with a thickness of 5−50 μm is prepared via roll-to-roll fabrication. Remarkably, a three-dimensional LiCu x solid-solution alloy skeleton is formed inside the ultrathin Li, achieving the dual purpose of lithiophilicity and high performance. The full cell with the N/P ratio of 3.2, consisting of a LiFePO 4 cathode with an areal capacity of 1.58 mAh·cm −2 and a 25 μm thick LiCu x /Li composite anode, exhibited stable cycling for more than 480 cycles at 1 C. This work provides a potential solution for the industrial production of high-performance and cost-effective ultrathin Li metal anodes.

Herein, fabricating Li-based ultrathin alloys with electronic localization and high surface work function via depositing Bi, Al, or Au metals on the surface of copper foil for in situ alloying with lithium is proposed. It is discovered that the electronic localization can induce self-smoothing effect of Li ions, as a result, significantly suppressing the growth of dendritic lithium. Meanwhile, the high surface work function can effectively alleviate side reactions between the electrolyte and lithium. With the as-obtained ultrathin alloys as anodes, excellent cycling performance is achieved. The half cells run stably after more than 120 cycles under high capacity of 4 mAh cm-2 . The S||Bi/Cu-Li full cell delivers a specific capacity of 736 mAh g-1 after 200 cycles. This work provides a new strategy for fabricating long-life and high-capacity lithium batteries.

Constructing Sn-Cu2O Lithiophilicity Nanowires As Stable and High-Performance Lithium Metal Anodes

Abstract:Lithium (Li) metal batteries (LMBs) have garnered significant research attention due to their high energy density. However, uncontrolled Li dendrite growth and the continuous accumulation of "dead Li" directly lead to poor electrochemical performance in LMBs, along with serious safety hazards. These issues have severely hindered their commercialization. In this study, a lithiophilic layer of Sn-Cu2O is constructed on the surface of copper foam (CF) grown with Cu nanowire arrays (SCCF) through a combination of electrodeposition and plasma reduction. Sn-Cu2O, with excellent lithiophilicity, reduces the Li nucleation barrier and promotes uniform Li deposition. Simultaneously, the high surface area of the nanowires reduces the local current density, further suppressing the Li dendrite growth. Therefore, at 1 mA cm-2, the half cells and symmetric cells achieve high Coulombic efficiency (CE) and stable operation for over 410 cycles and run smoothly for more than 1350 h. The full cells using an LFP cathode demonstrate a capacity retention rate of 90.6% after 1000 cycles at 5 C, with a CE as high as 99.79%, suggesting excellent prospects for rapid charging and discharging and long-term cyclability. This study provides a strategy for modifying three-dimensional current collectors for Li metal anodes, offering insights into the construction of stable, safe, and fast-charging LMBs.
Ultra‐Sleek High Entropy Alloy Tights: Realizing Superior Cyclability for Anode‐Free Battery

Abstract:Abstract The development of Li‐free anodes to inhibit Li dendrite formation and provide high energy density Li batteries is highly applauded. However, the lithiophobic interphase and heterogeneous Li deposition hindered the practical application. In this work, a 20 nm ultra‐sleek high entropy alloy (HEA, NiCdCuInZn) tights loaded with HEA nanoparticles are developed by a thermodynamically driven phase transition method on the carbon fiber (HEA/C). Multiple Li + transport paths and abundant active sites are enabled by the cocktail effect of different constituent elements in HEA. These active sites with gradient absorption energies (−3.18 to −2.03 eV) facilitate selective binding, providing a low barrier for homogeneous Li nucleation. Simultaneously, multiple transport paths promote Li diffusion behavior with uniform Li deposition. Thus, the HEA/C achieves high reversibility of Li plating/stripping processes over 2000 cycles with a coulombic efficiency of 99.6% at 5 mA cm −2 /1 mAh cm −2 in asymmetric cells, as well as over 7200 h at 60 mA cm −2 /60 mAh cm −2 in symmetric cells. Moreover, the anode‐free full cell with the HEA/C host has an average coulombic efficiency of 99.5% at 1 C after 160 cycles. This advanced HEA structure design shows a favorable potential application for anode‐free Li metal batteries.

Abstract:A multifunctional Li/SnS2 composite anode is rationally designed through an in situ melt‐infusion approach utilizing SnS2 as 'solute' and molten lithium as the 'solvent'. The 3D porous Li2S/Li22Sn5 framework possesses a low Li+ diffusion barrier, high electronic conductivity, and Li‐clusters decomposition capability, thus effectively eliminating the growth of dendrite and enabling ultra‐long cycling lifespan, especially at high rates. Metallic lithium is the most competitive anode material for next‐generation high‐energy batteries. Nevertheless, the extensive volume expansion and uncontrolled Li dendrite growth of lithium metal not only cause potential safety hazards but also lead to low Coulombic efficiency and inferior cycling lifespan for Li metal batteries. Herein, a multifunctional dendrite‐free composite anode (Li/SnS2) is proposed through an in situ melt‐infusion strategy. In this configuration, the 3D cross‐linked porous Li2S/Li22Sn5 framework facilitates the rapid penetration of electrolytes and accommodates the volume expansion during the repeated Li−plating process. Meanwhile, the lithiophilic Li2S phases with a low Li+ transport barrier ensure preferential Li deposition, effectively avoiding uneven electron distribution. Moreover, the Li22Sn5 electron conductors with appropriate Li+ bonding ability guarantee rapid charge transport and mass transfer. Most importantly, the steady multifunctional skeleton with sufficient inner interfaces (Li2S/Li22Sn5) in the whole electrode, not only realizes the redistribution of the localized free electron, contributing to the decomposition of Li clusters, but also induces a planar deposition model, thus restraining the generation of Li dendrites. Consequently, an unprecedented cyclability of over 6 500 h under an ultrahigh areal capacity of 10 mAh cm−2 and a current rate of 20 mA cm−2 is achieved for the prepared Li2S/Li22Sn5 composite anode. Moreover, the assembled Li/SnS2||LiFePO4 (LFP) pouch full‐cells also demonstrate remarkable rate capability and a convincing cycling lifespan of more than 2 000 cycles at 2 C.

Abstract:A thin Li metal anode is imperative for practical lithium metal batteries (LMBs). Fabricating and stabilizing <50 μm Li-metal anode is daunting due to the poor processability of Li and its inherent instability in liquid electrolytes. Here, we found that doping Li with 8.9 at% Sn yields a Li-Li 22 Sn 5 dual-phase alloy with impressive processability that allows rolling of <40 μm thin foils. Intriguingly, in the thin Li-Sn foil, the rolling process built a strong Li 22 Sn 5 (822) texture that can regulate Li electro-crystallization along the densely packed Li(110) facets. Such in-built Li(110) epitaxy is a result of >99% lattice match of Li(110)-Li 22 Sn 5 (822) and gives rise to a greatly stabilized Li growth front due to the low binding energy of solvated-Li + with Li(110) surface. Partial de-alloy treatment can fully activate the in-built Li(110) epitaxy, achieving stable plate-strip cycling in symmetric cells over 300 h at 80% depth-of-discharge (DOD). Stable 2.5 mAh/cm 2 full pouch cells in carbonate electrolyte (EC:EMC: DEC = 1:1:1, 5 % FEC) were achieved at a low N:P ratio of 2.1. Conversely, conventional Li-Sn and neat Li, even possessing more abundant active Li, quickly failed. The uncovered critical crystallography-electrochemistry correlation in textured Li-alloys sheds light on thin Li-metal anode development.

Abstract:Solid-state batteries (SSBs) can offer a paradigm shift in battery safety and energy density. Yet, the promise hinges on the ability to integrate high-performance electrodes with state-of-the-art solid electrolytes. For example, lithium (Li) metal, the most energy-dense anode candidate, suffers from severe interfacial chemomechanical issues that lead to cell failure. Li alloys of In/Sn are attractive alternatives, but their exploration has mostly been limited to the low capacity(low Li content)and In rich Li$_x$In (x$\leq$0.5). Here, the fundamental electro-chemo-mechanical behavior of Li-In and Li-Sn alloys of varied Li stoichiometries is unravelled in sulfide electrolyte based SSBs. The intermetallic electrodes developed through a controlled synthesis and fabrication technique display impressive (electro)chemical stability with Li$_6$PS$_5$Cl as the solid electrolyte and maintain nearly perfect interfacial contact during the electrochemical Li insertion/deinsertion under an optimal stack pressure. Their intriguing variation in the Li migration barrier with composition and its influence on the observed Li cycling overpotential is revealed through combined computational and electrochemical studies. Stable interfacial chemomechanics of the alloys allow long-term dendrite free Li cycling (>1000 h) at relatively high current densities (1 mA cm$^{-2}$) and capacities (1 mAh cm$^{-2}$), as demonstrated for Li$_{13}$In$_3$ and Li$_{17}$Sn$_4$, which are more desirable from a capacity and cost consideration compared to the low Li content analogues. The presented understanding can guide the development of high-capacity Li-In/Sn alloy anodes for SSBs.
