Abstract:The purpose of strengthened plasters (interior applications) and renders (exterior applications) in this paper is to control cracks at the interface between the main structure and the infill wall rather than strengthen masonry and reinforced concrete structures. Cracks in plasters and renders have caused severe issues that need to be resolved urgently. Cracks affect not only the aesthetics but also the normal use of a building. The presence of cracks changes the perceptions of the owners of a structure, forcing them to question its safety and even take legal action against its developer. Consequently, the present paper discusses the effects of different strengthening materials on the tensile behaviour of plasters and renders, particularly on the first cracking. One test group without strengthening materials and six test groups with strengthening materials were tested under uniaxial tensile loads. Each experimental group included the same six specimens. A glass fibre-reinforced polymer (GFRP) grid, two types of basalt fibre-reinforced polymer (BFRP) grids, and three types of welded wire meshes (WWMs) were selected as the strengthening materials in the tests. Four types of plasters and renders were used: cement mortar, anti-crack mortar, gypsum plaster, and thermal insulation mortar. The crack pattern, stain–stress relationship, first cracking strain, energy dissipation capacity in the uncracked stage, and microstructure were investigated to gain better insight into the tensile behaviour of the plasters and renders. It was found that a strengthening material with a small mesh size resulted in numerous cracks and a narrow crack spacing. The stress–strain curves of the strengthened specimens could be divided into uncracked and cracked stages. The higher slopes in both stages of the strengthened specimens could be attributed to the higher longitudinal strain coefficient, smaller opening size, and larger cross-sectional area of each strand of the strengthening materials. The first cracking strain of the unreinforced specimen was smaller than that of a strengthened specimen. Stronger bond strength between plaster/render and strengthening material, smaller mesh size and greater cross-sectional area of each strand of strengthening material led to the larger first cracking strain. The energy dissipation capacity in the uncracked stage of the strengthened thermal insulation mortar was the least. The energy dissipation capabilities in the uncracked stage of the plasters/renders reinforced with BFRP grid-2 and WWM-3 were the second-highest and highest, respectively. The bond strengths of the GFRP and BFRP grids to the plasters/renders were stronger than those of the WWMs. The bond strengths between the gypsum plaster and the reinforcing materials were the highest, whereas those between the thermal insulation mortar and the strengthening materials were the lowest. Additionally, stress–strain relationships were proposed for the strengthened plasters and renders; the results were found to be in good agreement with the test results.

Abstract:Nanomaterials could promote cement hydration that leads to better strength development, but their impacts on early shrinkage (up to 72 h) are rarely comprehensively researched. This study aims to investigate the effects of nano-CaCO3 (NC) on early shrinkage and the tensile properties of cement paste, which contains various contents of NC. Before the shrinkage modeling, early shrinkage, water losses, bound water contents (BWC) and pore size distributions (PSD) of cement paste were obtained first. In addition, the tensile strength and tensile strain capacity of the samples were also measured. Results show that the addition of NC increased early total/autogenous shrinkage of cement paste, but revealed different impacts on drying shrinkage. Meanwhile, a parameter rs calculated from PSD and water losses was proposed, and greater drying shrinkage of cement paste was seen with the reduction of rs. Further, a quantitative relationship between rs and early drying shrinkage was built based on experimental results and the theoretical derivation, and a total shrinkage model for 1-day was also built relied on rs as well as the relationship between BWC and autogenous shrinkage. Finally, the use of NC may slightly enhance the tensile properties of cement paste, but it may also raise its cracking risk due to its greater early total shrinkage as measured.
An Approach to Effectively Improve the Interfacial Bonding of Paste–limestone by Incorporating Different Nanomaterials

Abstract:The properties of concrete with nanomaterials are notably influenced by the interfacial transition zone (ITZ). However, the different modification mechanisms of different nanomaterials on ITZ are yet to be fully understood. Therefore, this study investigated the modification effect of nanomaterials by determining the bonding strength, nanoindentation value of the ITZ, as well as the layered mineral composition and microstructure of the interface. The results show that the bonding strength of specimens improved by nanomaterials was significantly increased, due to the ‘phase regulation effect’ and ‘deagglomeration effect’ of nanomaterials on the hydration products. However, the modification effect of different nanomaterials exhibited obvious difference. The effect of nano silica was the best compared with the other nanomaterials, resulted from the improvement of nanoindentation value and reduction of ITZ thickness. In addition, agglomeration of nano calcium carbonate and nano graphene oxide on the interface, inert nucleation of nano titanium dioxide resulted in the modest increase of interfacial bonding strength. This study proposes an approach to effectively improve ITZ properties, which may promote the further research and application of nanomaterials in the cement and concrete industries.
EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON PROPERTIES AND MICROSTRUCTURE OF NANO MODIFIED ULTRAFINE CEMENT-BASED GROUTING MATERIAL

Abstract:The traditional cement-based grouting materials commonly used for repairing cracks in highway tunnels have large particle sizes and are easy to block pipes. As such, ultrafine cement-based grouting materials were modified by adding nano-silica (NS), nano-alumina (NA), and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to improve their grouting, stability, and strength. The results showed that after adding different nano-materials, the fluidity and setting time of the grouting slurry decreased to different degrees, and the maximum values decreased by 41.38% and 42.9%, respectively. Among them, CNTs had the most significant effect, followed by NS. At the same time, the water bleeding rate of the grouting slurry decreased. When 2% NS and 0.5% CNTs were added, water bleeding would not appear. The compressive strength of nano modified grouting materials at all stages would increase first and then decrease with the increase of dosage. The dosages of NS, NA, and CNTs were 1.0%, 1.0%, and 0.1%, respectively, and the compressive strength increased by 24.6%, 4.2%, and 9.2% in 28 days, respectively. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy tests showed that the surface effect of NS and CNTs can improve the hydration reaction efficiency and hydration products; bridging and nucleation can reduce the crack spacing and structural pores between different particles, and improve the connection between hydration products. The amorphous materials produced by NA can fill the pore structure, while the cementation performance of amorphous materials was poor and had limited contribution to the strength.

Abstract:In marine environments, bridge piers and columns are prone to corrosion caused by harmful media, particularly chloride ions. This corrosion can lead to cracking of the steel bars in the protective layer of the bridge piers. To enhance the corrosion resistance of concrete in bridge piers, this article introduces the use of nanoclay-modified cement mortar. This innovative material offers high-performance surface treatment options that can effectively slow down the erosion process of harmful media and reduce the risk of bridge pier column cracking. To evaluate the ion erosion resistance of this nanoclay-modified cement mortar, we conducted detailed experiments on the pore structure of cement paste. The pore structure of cement paste with different dosages of nano-kaolinite clay and the dispersion method was studied using mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP). The fractal dimension of the pore surface area of the net cement paste was calculated from the fractal model based on thermodynamic relationships of the pore structure-related parameters obtained with mercury pressure experiments. The relationship among the multiple fractal dimensions, pore structure parameters, dispersion mode, and permeability is explored. The results show that the addition of nano-kaolinite clay particles can improve the internal pore structure of cement materials. When 1.5% nano-kaolinite clay is mechanical dispersed, the total specific pore volume and the most probable pore size are reduced by 47.83% and 56.87%, respectively, compared with the control group. The fractal dimension image of cement-based materials with nano-kaolinite clay has a range of singular points and does not have fractal characteristics in this range. Nano-kaolinite clay has a significant effect on the fractal dimension of pore size range I. The fractal dimension of the whole pore size range is not suitable for the analysis of permeability, and the fractal dimension calculated by selecting less than the critical pore size range has a good correlation with permeability.

Abstract:Currently, there is a need to reduce wastes as much as possible in order to develop the concept of sustainability. Self-compaction mortar is one of the most important materials that used in the repair and rehabilitation works of damaged concrete structures. The goal of this study was to investigate the influences of nano TiO2 and nano calcined clay as a sustainable material on fresh and hardened properties of self-compacting mortar. Investigations were carried out to assess the flowrate of self-compacting mortar using the mini flow table and mini-V-funnel tests. The hardened properties were: compressive strength, flexural strength, dry density, water absorption in addition to microstructural properties (as determined by Scanning Electron Microscopy; SEM). Results showed that the addition of nano TiO2 and nano calcined clay was of importance in all properties investigated, by increasing compressive strength by 13, 20 and 22 % for NCC, and by 16, 25 and 29 % for TiO2 respectively at 28-days. According to SEM micrographs, part of the new born CSH crystals was found to be diffused into the matrix pores and were found to densify the interfacial transition zones which caused tendencies toward increased the ultimate strength. So, black pores were filled with extra hydration products and hence, increasing the healing ability of microcracks associated with strength enhancement.

Abstract:Advances in Structural Engineering, Ahead of Print. This study aims to investigate the influence of different surface treatments, including smooth interface, rough interface, anchor bolt connection, and epoxy bonding agent, on the shear resistance of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC)-concrete interface through bi-surface shear testing. The experimental results show that the interfacial shear strength between ECC and concrete is significantly enhanced by the implementation of the three interface treatment methods, as opposed to the smooth interface. Among these methods, the anchor bolt connection exhibits the greatest improvement in interfacial bonding performance. Notably, cohesive failure is observed in the anchor bolt connection method, while the other three methods result in adhesive failure, with only the anchor bolt connection method displaying ductile failure behavior. Following a comprehensive review of relevant studies and the outcomes of this experiment, three distinct interface bonding mechanisms were identified and the forces contributing to the bond were analyzed. Results indicated that the interfacial bond strength is notably influenced by the surface roughness. These research findings substantiate the viability of utilizing the anchor bolt connection method, particularly in applications where ductility requirements in the repair layer are essential for structural integrity.

Abstract:During the underground excavation, various flaws are frequently observed, which significantly decrease the mechanical properties of surrounding rock, as has been proven. As known, grouting technology is a means of reinforcement that efficiently enhances the stability of underground engineering. However, existing studies have mainly focused on increasing the strength of the slurry stone, and relatively less attention has been paid to the poor bonding effect at the interface between the slurry and the rock mass. In this work, we proposed to adopt slurry containing nano-silica sol to reinforce the fractured rock mass. Based on the mechanical model of micro–nano-siliceous slurry reinforcement for single fractured rock masses established in this paper, the effect and the mechanism of micro–nano-siliceous slurry reinforcement for fractured rock were explored through theoretical analysis, laboratory tests, and numerical simulations. Results showed that the application of micro–nano-siliceous slurry increased the friction and the bonding force at the slurry–rock interface, which led to a ( σ n · Δ μ + Δ c ) reduction of the effective stress. The optimum incorporation rate of the nano-silica sol was determined to be 3% based on these indicators including slurry fluidity, slurry stone rate, and strength and deformation parameters of slurry stone. The peak strength of the sandstone specimens reinforced by the micro–nano-siliceous slurry increased by 16.49% those of the sandstones reinforced by the ordinary slurry, and the elastic energy accumulated by the former was higher. Scanning electron microscope images revealed that the incorporation of nano-silica sol distinctly improved the pore characteristics of the slurry-rock interface. Finally, on the basis of 1790 ventilation roadway of Shiyakou coal mine, the effectiveness and the feasibility of micro–nano-siliceous slurry for reinforcing underground engineering surrounding rocks were verified using numerical simulation.

Abstract:Abstract Filling and nucleation are the mechanisms of modifying cement paste with nanomaterials, as investigated by previous studies, and are difficult to reflect the different effects of nanomaterials, especially on the changes of cement clinker and hydration products in the cement hydration process. In this study, the mechanisms of modifying cement paste with nano-calcium carbonate (NC), nano-graphene oxide (NG), nano-silica (NS), and nano-titanium dioxide (NT) were investigated by determining the mechanical properties of cement paste treated with nanomaterials and analysing the changes in the cement clinker (tricalcium silicate and dicalcium silicate), hydration products (portlandite and ettringite), and microstructure through many micro-test methods. The results indicate that the incorporation of nanomaterials could improve the early strength of cement paste specimens due to more consumption of cement clinker. Meanwhile, different nanomaterials promote the formation of different hydration products at early ages. C–A–S–H gel, flower-like ettringite, and C–S–H seeds are widely distributed in the cement paste with the incorporation of NC, NG, and NS, respectively. NT exhibits insignificant nucleation effect and has inhibitory effect on portlandite precipitation. This study provides key insights into the mechanism of nanomaterials from the perspective of cement hydration, which may promote the further research and application of nanomaterials in the cement and concrete industries.

Abstract:Understanding the tensile strength and failure mechanism of rock–cement interfacial transition zone (ITZ) is of vital significance to the sealing integrity of cement sheath under downhole condition. Taking advantage of multiple techniques, i.e., digital image correlation (DIC), nano-indentation, XRD-Rietveld analysis, 29Si MAS solid NMR, and SEM-EDX, this study is devoted to investigating the impacts of curing temperature, rock type, and the addition of nano-silica (NS), on the tensile strength and failure mechanism of rock–cement sample. The experimental results show that both the curing temperature and the addition of NS leads to the formation of more C-S-H, which densifies the ITZ microstructure and responsible for high tensile strength of rock–cement samples; the tensile strengths of shale-cement samples are consistently higher than those of sandstone-cement sample; the crack velocities for rock–cement samples under three-point bending tests are approximately 1 mm/s, the crack velocities for rock–cement samples are slowed down when the NS is incorporated in cement paste, but they are independent on the rock type and curing temperature.

Abstract:In this study, 3D printed concrete was prepared with a natural coarse aggregate to investigate the mechanical properties of 3D printed natural coarse aggregate concrete (3DPNAC) after hardening, considering curing time and anisotropic mechanical strength, and the properties of 3DPNAC were compared to those of a 3D printed mortar (3DPM). The compressive and flexural strengths were measured by an electronic universal testing machine. The bond strength and damage pattern of the interlayer interface were investigated using a self-designed loading device and digital image correlation technique, and pore defects inside the printed structure were characterized using X-ray computed tomography. The results showed that the compressive and flexural strengths of 3DPNAC showed varying degrees of anisotropic characteristics and differential development patterns of mechanical strength with curing time. The filament interfacial bonding system was proposed, and the bond strength of 3DPNAC was more than twice that of 3DPM. The geometry of pore defects in 3DPNAC evolved with pore volume variations. Finally, the evolution of pore defect formation was analyzed, and the effect mechanisms of pore defects on 3DPNAC mechanical properties were revealed.

Abstract:Grouting is a common method to improve the mechanical properties of the fractured rock mass. Understanding the effect of grouting on the mechanical properties of fractured rock mass is considered essential for the establishment of efficient grouting designs and the development of new grouting materials. Therefore, in this research, a series of experiments are conducted to reveal the influence of grouting material on the mesostructure and macroscopic mechanical behavior of the grout-rock interface. Firstly, grouted samples with different grouting materials (ordinary Portland cement (OPC), microfine cement (MFC), and epoxy resin (EPR)) were prepared. Then, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and X-ray computed tomography (CT) were carried out on the grouted rock mass to investigate the pore phase composition and mesostructure. Subsequently, correlating acoustic emission (AE) counts and shear stress-displacement curves reveal the shear failure process of the grouted rock mass. Finally, the failure mechanism of grouted rock mass was discussed in detail. The results displayed that the damage characteristic during shear failure of the grouted rock mass may be inferred from the AE counts. The shear strength of the sample grouted with OPC, MFC, and EPR is 8.3%, 41.5%, and 142.8% of that of intact rock, respectively. EPR reduces the pore content at the grout-rock interface compared with cement-based grout, especially the macropores and the micropores. Compared with the rock layer, the number of pores at the grout-rock interface of the sample grouted with OPC, MFC, and EPR is reduced by 43.3%, 57.1%, and 64.3%, respectively. The hydrophilicity of the rock leads to a discrepancy in the hydration degree of cement-based grout, which causes uneven shrinkage of the grout and produces cracks. However, as a chemical grouting material, EPR may permeate into the rock interior and modify the mesostructure of the grout-rock interface. The grout-rock bonding and mesostructure of the grout-rock interface dominate the failure mechanism, thus determining the macroscale mechanical properties of the grouted rock mass.

Abstract:The performance of grouting materials directly affects the reinforcement effect of fractured rock masses by grouting. This paper investigates the synergistic effect of graphene oxide and fly ash on the properties of cementitious grout materials and the cementing effect of grouting reinforcement on broken rock masses. Basic performance tests such as flowability, bleeding rate, and setting time of grout slurries were conducted, and macroscopic characterization were tested for flexural strength, compressive strength, permeability and resistivity of the hardened grout paste. Direct shear tests of slurry-rock interfaces were performed using a self-made shear box, and the microstructures and mineral compositions of the slurry-rock interfaces were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The test results show that the flowability, bleeding rate, and initial setting time of graphene oxide and fly ash (GO-FA) cement-based grout slurries with a water-cement ratio of 0.8 are 413 mm, 4.8 %, and 12.7 h, respectively, indicating high flowability and stability. The 28-day flexural strength, compressive strength, and permeability of GO-FA the hardened grout paste are 4.6 MPa, 25.7 MPa, and 1.50 × 10 −9 cm/s, respectively, which are 28.5 %, 30.4 %, and 25.4 % higher than those of pure cement hardened grout paste. The electrical resistivity of the hardened grout pastes increases with the curing time of the slurry and eventually stabilizes, and a linear relationship between compressive strength and electrical resistivity is established. The reinforcement effect of GO-FA grout filling on broken rock masses is the best, with significantly increased peak shear strength and residual strength of the slurry-rock interface after grouting compared to traditional cement grout filling, indicating enhanced deformation resistance and a 19.8 % increase in cohesion. Grouting filling significantly improves the cohesion and internal friction angle of fractured rock mass interfaces, with the cohesion and internal friction angle of the slurry-rock interface after grouting filling with a thickness of 1 mm being 3.90 times and 1.28 times higher, respectively, than those of the unfilled fractured surface. The filling thickness has a significant effect on cohesion but little effect on the internal friction angle. The microstructure model of the slurry-rock interface is consistent with the Xie model, indicating the generation of hydration products such as calcium hydroxide and ettringite on the interface, as well as small amounts of potassium feldspar, kaolinite, and the new mineral component calcite.

Abstract:The rapid construction of prefabricated components of reinforced concrete structures using 3D printing concrete as a permanent formwork is a promising way to organically combine 3D printing with traditional construction technology. The bonding property of the contact interface between the 3D-printed permanent formwork and internal post-cast concrete is crucial for the 3D-printed structure to maintain the overall mechanical performance. In this study, the roughness of 3D-printed formwork (10 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm) and the age difference between the formwork and post-cast concrete (1 d, 3 d, 7 d, and 14 d) were set as variables to investigate their influence on the interfacial tensile and shearing bonding properties. Additionally, computerised tomography (CT) scanning was used to visualise the meso-structure of the interfacial zones and the pore characteristics were quantified. The microstructure and hydration products of the bonding interface were detected, and the gradient structure of the interface transition zone of the 3D printing formwork was presented. A plastic limit analytical mechanical model of the interfacial shear strength was established. The results show that the tensile and shear properties of the bonding interface were the best when the layer height of the printing formwork was 20 mm, and it is recommended to cast internal concrete materials after 7 d of 3D printing formwork moulding.

Abstract:3D printing concrete has been accepted as a promising construction material which can realise formless construction and digital design. The fresh properties and the hardened strength of concrete ink are crucial for structural applications. In this study, different volume fractions of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were added to a 3D printing PVA fibre-reinforced mortar ink to modify its mechanical properties. To evaluate the effect of MWCNTs on the workability of 3D printing mortar, the buildability, shape stability, flowability and setting time of fresh mortar were tested. The improvement efficiency of MWCNTs on the mechanical properties of 3D printing PVA mortar ink was also experimentally studied. The test results indicate that a small amount of MWCNTs has almost no effect on the ink's workability. The early age compressive and flexural strength of printing mortars with MWCNTs can be effectively improved, which benefits the requirements of 3D printing. The 3-d compressive strength of mortar with addition of 0.1 wt% of MWCNTs can be enhanced by 33.6%, while the 28-d strength was hardly affected. Agglomeration and poor dispersion of MWCNTs can generally be detected by SEM images as volume content of carbon nanotubes increases. Considering the influence of MWCNTs on the fresh and hardened properties of mortar and on the requirements of 3D printing, the optimum volume fraction of carbon nanotubes for 3D printing PVA fibre-reinforced mortar should be 0.02-0.05 wt%. Abstract:The rheological behavior of fresh 3D printing concrete (3DPC) not only determines the pumpability, extrudability and buildability, but also strongly affects the interlayer properties. Which is one of the most important characteristics of 3D printing construction that shaped layer by layer. This paper systematically studied the relationship between the rheological behavior (tuned by attapulgite) and the interlayer bonding properties of 3DPC. The results showed that the interlayer bonding strength and interlayer durability strongly depend on the rheological parameters (i.e., dynamic yield stress, plastic viscosity, static yield stress and structural build-up rate). With the increase of dynamic yield stress and structural build-up rate, the interlayer bonding strength and interlayer durability both decreased. Moreover, an empirical formula combining interlayer bonding strength with the dynamic yield stress and the structural build-up rate of 3DPC, considering the porosity and hydration degree, was proposed for the first time.

Abstract:The failure of the interfacial transition zone has been identified as the primary cause of damage and deterioration in cement-based materials. To further understand the interfacial failure mechanism, interfacial composite structures between the main hydration products of ordinary Portland cement (OPC), calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), and silica (SiO2) were constructed while considering their anisotropy. Afterwards, uniaxial tensile tests were conducted using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Our results showed that the interfacial zones (IZs) of interfacial composite structures tended to have relatively lower densities than those of the bulk, and the anisotropy of the hydration products had almost no effect on the IZ being a low-density zone. Interfacial composite structures with different configurations exhibited diverse nanomechanical behaviors in terms of their ultimate strength, stress–strain relationship and fracture evaluation. A higher strain rate contributed to a higher ultimate strength and a more prolonged decline in the residual strength. In the interfacial composite structures, both CSH and Ca(OH)2 exhibited ruptures of the Ca-O bond as the primary atomic pair during the tensile process. The plastic damage characteristics of the interfacial composite structures during the tensile process were assessed by analyzing the normalized number of broken Ca-O bonds, which also aligned with the atomic chain break characteristics evident in the per-atom stress map.

Abstract:Abstract The creep of face-slab concrete in a rockfill dam is critical for determining the restrained stress and cracking resistance of the concrete at an early age. In this article, the mix proportion of the face-slab concrete for a rockfill dam under construction without any cracking resistance additive was taken as the reference concrete (called JC) mix proportion. The carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and magnesium oxide expansion agent (MEA) were incorporated into JC to prepare face-slab concretes called NC and PC, respectively. The temperature–stress tests under temperature matching curing (TMC) and constant temperature curing (CTC) modes were conducted on these three kinds of concretes to investigate the effects of CNTs and MEA on the early-age creep properties of the face-slab concrete under variable stress conditions. The results showed that the creep performance of NC concrete under CTC mode was lower than that under TMC mode. Combined with mercury intrusion porosimetry test results, the mechanism of the effect of CNTs and MEA on creep was analyzed. The results showed that the temperature change may lead to the CNTs debonding from the cementitious matrix or matrix cracking for the NC concrete. The incorporation of CNTs can increase the early-age creep and improve the cracking resistance of concrete.

Abstract:Given the challenges encountered in injecting grout into micro-cracked rock masses, a modified ultrafine cementitious grout material (MUCG) was developed using ultrafine cement, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers, and a high-efficiency superplasticizer. To identify the optimal ratio of constituents for grouting these rock masses, extreme difference and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted based on test results of flowability and mechanical properties. A mix comprising 9% silica fume, 0.2% bentonite, 0.3% PVA fibers, 0.15% superplasticizer, and 2% setting accelerator was identified as the optimal mix. The microstructure characteristics of the optimal MUCG (MUCGop) grout cemented body were analyzed using XRD, FTIR, BET, and SEM. XRD and FTIR analyses indicated that a substantial amount of C-(A)S-H gel, CH, and AFt were formed within the first 3 days, highlighting the early strength characteristics of MUCGop. Over time, the content of C-A-H stabilized at 22%, the amount of CH decreased from 19% to 14%, whereas the amount of AFt increased to 15.9% by Day 28. Unexpectedly, CaCO3 content increased due to carbonation, reaching 37.3% by Day 28. BET and SEM analyses demonstrated that the specific surface area and porosity (most probable pore size) gradually decreased over time. At various ages, mesopores (cumulative pore diameter, median pore diameter) initially increased and then decreased. Micro-cracks appeared in the cemented body by Day 7, resulting in a slight decrease in strength (3.92%) from Day 3 to Day 7. The formation of well-developed needle-like AFt, C-(A)S-H gel, and small-volume plate-like CH contributed to uniform cementation and a denser structure. From Day 7 to Day 28, there was a slight increase in strength, by an amount of 10.66%. These findings have significant scientific implications for understanding the mechanisms of grouting reinforcement in micro-cracked rock masses.
