Abstract:We report on a femtosecond nonlinear amplification fiber laser system using a vector-dispersion compressor, which consists of a transmission grating pair and multipass cell based Gires-Tournois interferometer mirrors. The mirror is designed with nearly zero group-delay dispersion and large negative third-order dispersion. As a result, the third-order dispersion of the compressor can be adjusted independently to compensate the nonlinear phase shift of amplified pulses to reduce the pulse pedestal. With this scheme, the system outputs 44 fs laser pulses with little wing at 26.6W output average power and 531 nJ pulse energy, corresponding to 10.8MW peak power. (C) 2011 Optical Society of America

Abstract:<p>A high power and hybrid chirped pulse amplification (CPA) system comprised by fiber-silicate glass fiber-single crystal fiber amplifier is demonstrated in this work. In this hybrid system, the high gain compact silicate glass fiber amplifier is used to boost the power, amplified power more than 92 W is obtained with the injected power of 400 mW at 1 MHz, corresponded amplification gain as high as 23.6 dB. To our best knowledge, this is the highest power obtained in CPA amplification with silicate glass fiber. The single crystal fiber amplifier is used to boost the energy with low nonlinearity in high pulse energy amplification. Amplified power of 122 W at 1 MHz is obtained, corresponding to a pulse energy of 122 μJ. After amplification, the laser pulses are compressed by chirped volume Bragg grating (CVBG), the total compression efficiency greater than 73% is obtained by control the spectrum width with a fiber filter with pass band of 5 nm in the fiber pre-amplifier to match the reflected bandwidth of the CVBG compressor. To match the dispersion between the chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG) stretcher and the CVBG compressor, the self-made temperature tuning device of CFBG is employed to make precision dispersion match. The optimized pulse width of 660 fs at compressed power of 90 W is obtained. This compact and high power ultrafast laser will find various applications in scientific research and industrial applications.</p>

Abstract:A high energy monolithic all fiber chirped pulse amplification (CPA) system composed of fiber-silicate glass fiber is demonstrated in this work. In this compact system, the optical stretcher consists of two large dispersion chirped fiber Bragg gratings that offer a high stretch ratio to lower the nonlinearity that accumulates in the fiber amplifier. By employing high gain silicate glass fiber with a length of 20 cm as the main amplifier, an optimal balance of pulse energy and the B-integral is achieved. An amplified power of 42.6 W, corresponding to a pulse energy of 213 µJ, is obtained with an injection power of 100 mW. After compression, the laser pulses are compressed by a novel polarization-controlled double-pass configuration of a chirped volume Bragg grating (CVBG) to match the dispersion of the fiber stretcher. A total compression efficiency of 79.8% is obtained. The dispersion between the stretcher and the compressor is matched with the self-made temperature tuning device of the fiber grating. An optimized pulse width of 781 fs and a pulse energy of 170 µJ are obtained with the single-mode beam profile. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest energy ever obtained with a single-mode beam profile for a spliced monolithic all-fiber CPA system. This compact high-energy fiber system will be useful in scientific research and industrial applications.

Abstract:A hybrid chirped pulse amplification system composed by the monolithic fiber pre-amplifier and a two-stage single-pass single crystal fiber amplifier was demonstrated. A maximum power of 68 W at the repetition rate of 100 kHz was obtained. The laser pulses were amplified and then compressed using a 1600 line/mm grating pair compressor. A short pulse duration of 358 fs and a power of 54 W were obtained at 100 kHz, corresponding to a peak power of 1.508 GW, to the best of our knowledge, this is the highest peak power ever obtained from single crystal fiber at repetition rate above 100 kHz due to the consideration of the third order dispersion which was engraved in the stretcher and the tuning capacity of higher-order dispersion compensation of chirped fiber Bragg grating. Additionally, the beam quality better than 1.3 was obtained. This high peak power CPA system with excellent comprehensive parameters will find various applications in scientific research and industrial applications.

Abstract:We report on the development of a chirped pulse amplification (CPA) designed erbium fiber source with a hybrid high-power amplifier, which is composed of erbium-doped and erbium/ytterbium-co-doped double-clad large-mode-area fibers. Stretched pulses from the high-power amplifier with up to 21.9 µJ energy and 198.5 kHz repetition rate are dechirped in the transmission grating pair-based compressor with 73% efficiency, yielding as short as 742 fs duration with 15.8 µJ energy and ≈13M W peak power (maximum average power up to 3.14 W) at the central wavelength of 1.56 µm. Compressed pulses are coupled into microstructured negative-curvature hollow-core fibers with a single row capillary cladding and different core sizes of 34 µm and 75 µm in order to realize femtosecond pulse delivery with a diffraction-limited output beam (M 2≤1.09) and demonstrate ∼200n J Stokes pulse generation at 1712 nm via rotational SRS in pressurized hydrogen (H 2). We believe that the developed system may be a prospect for high-precision material processing and other high-energy and high-peak-power laser applications.

Abstract:This paper introduces a compact picosecond laser system using tapered double cladding fiber-single crystal fiber hybrid amplification technology for the first time. By modifying the Ginzburg-Landau equation, we established a simulation model and designed a passive mode-locked picosecond oscillator based on a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror. The oscillator outputs laser with a pulse width of 7.75 ps, a center wavelength of 1030.55 nm, and a spectrum width of 0.58 nm. The seed laser is stretched and amplified by the all-fiber front stage, and then injected into the tapered double cladding fiber-single crystal fiber hybrid amplifier. The laser power is amplified from 820 mw to 103.1 W, obtaining a gain of 21 dB. We used zero-phonon line pumping technology in single crystal fiber amplifier to reduce the thermal effects caused by quantum loss, thereby increasing the length of the crystal and increasing the power loading capacity. We designed a single crystal fiber amplification module using Yb:YAG with 60 mm long, 1 mm diameter and a 1 at.% doping rate for the first time. Finally a hundred-watt level picosecond laser output with a repetition frequency of 26.33 MHz, an average power of 103.1 W, a pulse width of 244.72 ps, a spectrum width of 1.16 nm, and a beam quality of M2 x = 1.368 and M2 y = 1.511 was obtained. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest picosecond laser output power for an all-fiber front-stage combined with a single-stage single crystal fiber amplifier.

Abstract:A high-power single-frequency 1178 nm continuous-wave laser is generated in a two-stage stimulated-Brillouin-scattering-suppressed all-polarization-maintaining Raman fiber amplifier pumped by 1120 nm fiber lasers. A polarization-extinction-ratio of 30 dB is achieved due to the all-polarization-maintaining configuration and the polarization dependence gain of Raman scattering. Single-pass frequency doubling with a homemade periodically poled near-stoichiometric LiT alpha O-3 crystal (PPSLT) produces an up to 7 W narrow-linewidth laser at 589 nm. The thermally induced dephasing effect is found to be the key issue for improving second-harmonic efficiency. (C) 2013 Optical Society of America

Abstract:In this paper, we reported an Yb-doped, femtosecond, chirped pulse amplification laser based on strictly all-fiber structure. It operated at a low repetition rate of 1 kHz and adopted the synchronously pumping technology to suppress ASE and heat accumulation. A chirped fiber Bragg grating providing adjustable dispersion is used as the pulse stretcher. High order dispersion induced by fiber, grating pair in the system was compensated accurately. Laser pulse with duration of 180 fs and energy of 112 μJ has been obtained. In addition, it has a high long-term stability of energy and a good beam quality, corresponding to energy fluctuation of 0.62% in an hour and M2 factor of 1.15, respectively.

Abstract:The Yb:fiber based high-power and high-energy ultrafast lasers usually feature central wavelength of 1030 nm instead of the more common one of 1064 nm, thus limiting some potential wavelength-dependent applications. In this work, a hectowatt 1064-nm femtosecond chirped pulse amplification (CPA) system based on double-stage rod-type photonic crystal fiber (PCF) amplifier was demonstrated, with a pulse energy of 212-μJ and a repetition rate of 0.5 MHz. Compared with our previous work [Opt. Express 30(6), 3611, 2022], two key measures were employed. Firstly, a Yb:YAG crystal was intentionally introduced as a spectral filter for avoiding 1030-nm amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) oscillation, which hence improved the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by 15 dB. Secondly, an additional stage of rod-type PCF amplifier was adopted for further power scaling, achieving an average power of 127 W. Finally, the pulse was compressed to ∼460 fs, with an average power of 106 W and a compression efficiency of ∼83%. The beam quality factors (M2) were measured to be M2 X = 1.12 and M2 Y = 1.09. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest pulse energy among 1064-nm hectowatt-level femtosecond lasers, thus providing a high-quality source for wavelength-dependent applications. For example, it can be used as a driver for high-repetition-rate vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) sources about 10.5 eV, with an expected conversion efficiency of up to 1%.

Abstract:We demonstrate a femtosecond Yb:fiber laser amplification system which delivers 97 W average output power at a repetition rate of 1.08 GHz using a rod-type photonic crystal fiber. The re-compressed output pulse is 233 fs. Numerical simulation was also conducted in agreement with our experimental results.

Abstract:An all-fiber low-repetition-rate SESAM mode-locked fiber oscillator combined with a dispersion-managed active fiber loop produces a flexible GHz burst-mode laser source. The high-power output is then produced by amplifying the GHz burst-mode laser source using an all-fiber chirped-pulse amplification system. Then, the laser is compressed using a grating pair compressor; a maximum amplified power of 97 W is obtained. This results in a compressed high power of 82.07 W with a power stability RMS of 0.09% and beam quality better than 1.2. Accurate dispersion control allows for the production of a high-quality pulse duration of 265 fs.

Abstract:We report on a 13.2 W, 474 fs, 31.12 MHz, all-polarization-maintaining (PM), 1560 nm fiber laser system based on the chirped-pulse amplification (CPA). The home-built seed laser with the nonlinear amplified loop mirror (NALM) can deliver two trains of laser pulses. Two stages of cascaded all-PM Er:Yb co-doped fiber (EYDF) amplifiers were employed in scaling up the average power. The corresponding numerical simulation and experimental investigations were implemented in optimizing the power amplification process. To our knowledge, this is the highest output power ever reported for the 1560 nm femtosecond all-PM fiber laser systems.

Abstract:We report a high-power chirped pulse amplification (CPA) based on nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) oscillator and Yb-doped rod-type photonic crystal fiber (PCF). An all-polarization-maintaining NALM mode-locked fiber oscillator was used providing an average power of 9.4 mW, a pulse duration of 5.3 ps at the repetition rate of 21 MHz. After pulse stretching, selection and amplification, an average power of 120 W with the pulse duration of 145 ps at repetition rate of 4.2 MHz has been achieved. The pulse duration is compressed to 14 ps using a pair of reflective gratings coated by gold film. In order to prevent the damage of the gratings, the compressed average power is limited to 51 W. The compressed pulse average power can be further improved by using transmissive gratings coated by dielectric film.

Abstract:An ultrafast fiber chirped-pulse amplification laser system based on coherent combination of 16 ytterbium-doped rod-type amplifiers is presented. It generates 10 mJ pulse energy at 1 kW average power and 120 fs pulse duration. A partially helium-protected, two-staged chirped-pulse amplification grating compressor is implemented to maintain the close to diffraction-limited beam quality by avoiding nonlinear absorption in air.

Abstract:An ytterbium-doped, single-stage, double-pass nonlinear fiber amplification system was fabricated for amplifying an 1100-nm mode-locking fiber laser. Pre-chirp managed amplification (PCMA) was applied in realizing the nonlinear amplification process with an all-polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber construction. The system can deliver 19.8-nJ, 58.7-fs, 24.4-MHz amplified signal pulses with a 10-dB spectral range spanning from 1049 nm to 1130 nm. Further experimental investigations were conducted in exploring the dynamics of the double-pass nonlinear amplification process. This compact 1100-nm ultrafast fiber laser can be implemented for multi-photon microscopy (MPM) with deep penetration depth.

Abstract:We present a coherently-combined femtosecond fiber CPA system based on a rod-type, Ytterbium-doped, multicore fiber with 4x4 cores. A high average power of up to 500 W (after combination and compression) could be achieved at 10 MHz repetition rate with an excellent beam quality. Additionally, <500 fs pulses with up to 600 uJ of pulse energy were also realized with this setup. This architecture is intrinsically power scalable by increasing the number of cores in the fiber.

Abstract:The paper presents monolithic fiber-optic CPA systems - where the mode-locked oscillator, pulse stretcher, pulse shaper, pulse picker, and all amplifier stages are comprised of fusion spliced fiber devices - emitting up to 300 μJ compressed pulse output with duration <;500 fs (FWHM). This is a 6 times higher pulse energy than previously reported for monolithic fiber femtosecond lasers. Higher femtosecond pulse energy enables cutting and drilling through thicker materials, at faster rates, without imposing a heat affected zone (HAZ). Generating this femtosecond beam with a monolithic fiber-optic system provides the most compact and stable form factor, suitable for industrial work cell integration and global factory deployment.

Abstract:We report a high peak power of 670 kW laser output with 4.7 ns pulse duration at a center wavelength of 1064 nm generated by an all-fiber super-irradiation pulsed amplifier (SPA) working at a high repetition frequency of 20 kHz. The SPA consists of four amplifier stages: two preamplifiers, a boost amplifier and a main amplifier. A single-mode pulse signal with 10 nm broadband bandwidth is launched by a super-luminescent diode (SLD) as the seed. In the main amplifier, about 68.5% of optical–optical conversion efficiency is realized from a 92 W pump laser diode working at 976 nm. It is shown that the output pulses have great stability (<2%). The beam quality M2 is measured to be better than 1.6 in both orthogonal directions.

Abstract:An ultrafast fiber laser system comprising two coherently combined amplifier channels is reported. Within this system, each channel incorporates a rod-type fiber power amplifier, with individual operations reaching approximately 233 W. The active-locking of these coherently combined channels, followed by compression using gratings, yields an output with a pulse energy of 504 μJ and an average power of 403 W. Exceptional stability is maintained, with a 0.3% root mean square (RMS) deviation and a beam quality factor M 2 < 1.2. Notably, precise dispersion management of the front-end seed light effectively compensates for the accumulated high-order dispersion in subsequent amplification stages. This strategic approach results in a significant reduction in the final output pulse duration for the coherently combined laser beam, reducing it from 488 to 260 fs after the gratings compressor, while concurrently enhancing the energy of the primary peak from 65% to 92%.
