Abstract:The further practical applications of halide perovskite quantum dots (QDs) are blocked by problems of instability and nonradiative Auger recombination manifested as photoluminescence blinking. Here, single core/shell structured perovskite semiconductor QDs are successfully fabricated by capping CsPbBr3 QD core with CdS shell. It is demonstrated that CsPbBr3/CdS core/shell QDs exhibit ultrahigh chemical stability and nonblinking photoluminescence with high quantum yield due to the reduced electronic traps within the core/shell structure. Efficiency of amplified spontaneous emission exhibits obvious enhancement compared to that of pure CsPbBr3 QDs, originating from the mitigated competition between stimulated emission and suppressed nonradiative biexciton Auger recombination. Furthermore, low-threshold whispering-gallery-mode lasing with a high-quality factor is achieved by incorporating CsPbBr3/CdS QDs into microtubule resonators. Density functional theory (DFT)-based first-principles calculations are also performed to reveal the atomic interface structure, which supports the existence of CsPbBr3/CdS structure. An interesting feature of spatially separated charge density at CsPbBr3/CdS interface is found, which may greatly contribute to the suppressed Auger recombination. The results provide a practical approach to improve the stability and suppress the blinking of halide perovskite QDs, which may pave the way for future applications for various optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Although all-inorganic CsPbBrxI3-x perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) are increasingly being used as a competitive material for pure red perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs), they suffer from low luminescent ability and poor stability. Compared with pristine LEDs based on CsPbBrxI3-x, the pure red PeLEDs based on In3+-doped CsPbBrxI3-x display a higher luminance of 423 cd m(-2), fivefold external quantum efficiency improvement up to 11.2%, and increased stability, providing a feasible and promising perspective for developing In3+-doped CsPbBrxI3-x PeQDs applied efficiently in advanced light emitters for solid-state lighting and displays.

Abstract:The all-inorganic perovskite CsPbI 3 quantum dots are difficult to achieve pure red stable luminescence due to their poor lattice thermodynamic stability and non-radiative recombination loss caused by surface halide vacancies. Therefore, the pure red perovskites are usually achieved by mixing the composition of halides (Br and I). In this work, CsPb(Br/I) 3 quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized by the hot-injection method under the synergistic effect of homophthalic acid (HA), 2-bromoethanesulphonic acid sodium salt (SBES), and oleylamine (OAm). By adjusting the molar ratio of passivates, the synergistic effect of multiple ligands can not only passivate the unliganded Pb 2+ -related defects on the surface of NCs, but also increase the formation energy of halide vacancies. Meanwhile, due to the bidentate structure of HA, smaller size of perovskites nanocrystals were obtained. Eventually, synergistic boost in device performance is achieved for color-by-blue white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) with CIE coordinates of (0.3319, 0.3297) and have an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 10.13%. This strategy paves an efficient way for improving the efficiency and stability of CsPb(Br/I) 3 NCs.

Abstract:Although lead halide perovskites have demonstrated excellent optical properties, their commercialization has been hindered due to environmental stability issues, in particular water stability. Here, CsPbBr 3 @PbBr(OH) perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) were successfully synthesized at room temperature with the assistance of organic ligands. These PQDs exhibited excellent water stability, which were validated by the retention of more than 90% of the original luminescence intensity under ultrasonic treatment and water immersion for up to one year. The photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of the CsPbBr 3 @PbBr(OH) powder reached 51%, which is similar to the PLQY (53%) of pure CsPbBr 3 prepared by hot-injection by us. In addition, the Lewis acidity and basicity of the organic ligand will affect the synthesis rate of PbBr(OH) during the reaction, which further affects the number and size of quantum dots, the color of luminescence could be modified. Due to the CsPbBr 3 @PbBr(OH) has such excellent stability and high PLQY, we tested its potential as a perovskite LED. The emission attenuation is only 7% after the LED device works continuously for 12 h.

Abstract:An anion exchange process using HBr is developed and used to achieve pure‐red emitting CsPbI3‐xBrx quantum dots, with 1‐dodecanethiol ligands used to suppress halide ion migration. The light‐emitting diodes based on the quantum dos show a stable electroluminescence peak at 637 nm, and a maximum external quantum efficiency of 21.8% with an average value of 20.4%. Perovskite‐based light‐emitting diodes (PeLEDs) with a mixed halide composition can be used to obtain the "pure red" emission, i.e., in the 620–650 nm range, required for high‐definition displays. However, fast halide ion migration induces phase separation in these materials under electric fields, resulting in poor spectral stability and low efficiency. Herein, a method for producing mixed halide CsPbI3‐xBrx quantum dots (QDs) is reported in which ion migration is suppressed. The mixed halide composition is first achieved by anion exchange between CsPbI3 QDs and hydrobromic acid (HBr), during that the bromine ions efficiently passivate the iodine vacancies of the QDs. The original oleic acid ligands are then exchanged for 1‐dodecanethiol (1‐DT), which suppresses halide ion migration via the strong binding of the sulfhydryl group with the QD surface. PeLEDs based on these QDs exhibit a pure‐red electroluminescence (EL) peak at 637 nm, a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 21.8% with an average value of 20.4%, a peak luminance of 2653 cd m−2, and low EQE decease with increasing luminance. The EL spectrum of these devices is stable even at 6.7 V and they have an EQE half‐life of 70 min at an initial luminance of 150 cd m−2.

Abstract:The phase instability of CsPbI3 perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) restricts their practical applications due to the easy conversion from the luminescent cubic phase to the non-luminescent orthorhombic phase. The elemental doping route has been regarded as one of the most effective strategies to achieve high-quality PQDs-based phosphors. Herein, a stoichiometric amount of nickel chloride (NiCl2) has been effectively doped into the CsPbI3 lattice. The incorporation of Ni2+ ions has little effect on the crystal phase, structure, and morphology of the CsPbI3 PQDs but greatly influences their luminescence properties. The Ni2+ doping not only improves the luminescence performance but also greatly enhances the stability against temperature, storage time, and polar solvent. The formation process and luminescence and stability improvement mechanisms have been discussed. Moreover, the influence of a series of other metal chlorides (KCl, NaCl, MgCl2, ZnCl2, SnCl2, and CaCl2) on the luminescence performance of CsPbI3 PQDs has been systematically investigated, revealing that the luminescence intensity increases by introducing CaCl2, SnCl2, or ZnCl2 but decreases after doping MgCl2, NaCl, or KCl into the CsPbI3 lattice. The as-proposed doping strategy may have a significant impact on tackling the intrinsic instability of all-inorganic CsPbX3 PQDs, shedding light on their future applications in light-emitting diode (LED) devices and solid-state lighting.

Abstract:High‐quality and stable pure red CsPbI3 quantum dots are separated by low temperature gradient centrifugation to fabricate high‐performance and stable pure red light‐emitting diodes. Development of high‐performance and stable pure red perovskite light‐emitting devices (LEDs) promotes commercialization of perovskite. Benefiting from the quantum confinement effect, pure red CsPbI3 quantum dots (QDs) can avoid the color drift issue for mixed halide systems. Herein, a facile temperature‐dependent hot‐injection method combined with low temperature gradient centrifugation is employed to prepare 5.60 ± 0.05 nm pure red QDs. The QDs exhibit 642 nm photoluminescence (PL) with 37 nm full width at half maximum, and their Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates located at (0.708, 0.292) match well with standard pure red for Rec. 2020. The PL half‐lifetime for pure red QDs solution is 210 days under ambient conditions, and both the X and Y coordinates of CIE only fluctuate within (0.002, 0.002). Finally, a simple NH4I post‐treatment to decrease ligand length further boosts the QDs conductivity, and the pure red LED exhibits 9.4% maximum external quantum efficiency. The electroluminescence spectra exhibits a sharp peak at 645 nm, and their CIE coordinates are located at (0.707, 0.290). Furthermore, the pure red LED exhibits both good working and color stability. Its half‐lifetime is 25.1 min and color drifts are only (0.002, 0.002) after 30.0 min of continuous working at 60 cd m−2 with a constant current density of 3.5 mA cm−2.

Abstract:Organic‐inorganic hybrid perovskite quantum dots have always been the focus of research in recent years. However, the toxic Pbin MAPbBr3 (MA = CH3NH3 ) quantum dots and low stability restrict the application in the field of lighting display. In order to solve this problem, the MA(Pb,Cu)Br3 perovskite quantum dots with Pb replaced by non‐toxic Cu were synthesized via the auxiliary ligand precipitation. The phase evolution, controlled‐color and fluorescent properties were systematically studied. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra monitored at the wavelength of 400 nm showed that the fluorescence emission intensity of quantum dots gradually decreased with the increase of the concentration of Cu, and the phenomenon of blue shift appeared. Moreover, the decay lifetime decreased when the dopant concentration of Cu gradually increased. The influence mechanism was discussed in details. In order to improve the stability, the MA(Pb, Cu)Br3@SiO2 quantum dots were prepared by the hydrolysis of tetramethyl orthosilicate (TMOS). Meanwhile, the effect of temperature on the fluorescence properties of quantum dots was investigated in detail. The high stability and low toxicity of the MA(Pb, Cu)Br3@SiO2 quantum dots are expected to be used in the fields of lighting display and solar cells.
Highly efficient and stable CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots by encapsulation in dual-shell hollow silica spheres for WLEDs

Abstract:Poor stability of CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br or I) perovskite quantum dots (QDs) has greatly hindered their practical photoelectric applications, and how to improve it still remains a critical challenge. Herein, we encapsulated CsPbBr3 QDs into dual-shell hollow silica (SiO2) spheres via a simple successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method. The hierarchical dual-shell structures permit CsPbBr3 QDs to be anchored on the interior of the SiO2 spheres while keeping the outside surface undisturbed, which can protect the CsPbBr3 QDs from direct exposure to the atmosphere. Due to the comprehensive protection of dual-shell hollow SiO2 spheres, the CsPbBr3/SiO2 nanospheres exhibit markedly enhanced stability against light and heat, with a residual PL intensity of 89% after continuous exposure for 72 h to UV light and 65% after 100 °C heat treatment, respectively. In addition, an optimal PLQY of 89% is obtained with suppressed nonradiative recombination. Finally, the fabricated white light-emitting diode (LED) device by employing CsPbBr3/SiO2 green phosphors could achieve a wide color gamut covering up to 136% of the NTSC standard. This work provides a novel SiO2-based encapsulation approach to solve the intrinsic instability issues of CsPbBr3 QDs, which has a profound impact on their practical applications.

Attraction and fecundity of adult codling moth, Cydia pomonella, as influenced by methoxyfenozide‐treated electrostatic powder

Abstract:The attractiveness and responsiveness of adult codling moths, Cydia pomonella (L.), exposed to EntostatTM powder with or without the ecdysteroid agonist, methoxyfenozide, were investigated in a flight tunnel. Coating males with either EntostatTM powder alone or powder plus methoxyfenozide 1 or 24 h prior to flight tunnel assays did not influence the mean percentages of males successfully orienting to a female‐equivalent lure relative to unexposed control moths. The fecundity of females paired with males exposed to EntostatTM powder plus methoxyfenozide was significantly lower than that for females paired with unexposed males. This reduction in egg output was similar to that observed when methoxyfenozide‐treated females were paired with untreated males, indicating that males can successfully pass methoxyfenozide to their partners during copulation. However, EntostatTM powder alone carried by male moths did not affect female fecundity after mating. EntostatTM powder has the potential to carry pesticides for C. pomonella control by autodissemination.
Luminescence and Stability Enhancement of CsPbBr 3 Perovskite Quantum Dots through Surface Sacrificial Coating

Abstract:All‐inorganic perovskite quantum dots (QDs) have emerged as a new category of low‐cost semiconducting luminescent materials for optoelectronic applications. However, their poor stability has become the main challenge that impedes their potential applications. Herein, Ni‐doped CsPbBr3 QDs with lead phosphate (Pb3(PO4)2) shell through surface sacrificial coating (c‐Ni‐CsPbBr3) have been developed based on a modified thermal injection approach. The synergistic effect of Ni doping and Pb3(PO4)2 coating effectively improves the stability and optical performances of CsPbBr3 QDs, including photoluminescence (PL) intensity, the average lifetime, and PL quantum yield (QY). Thus, the c‐Ni‐CsPbBr3 QDs demonstrate the full width at half maxima (FWHM) and PLQY being 18.42 nm and 90.77%, respectively. The PL intensity of c‐Ni‐CsPbBr3 can be maintained at 81% of its original value after being heated at 100 °C for 1 h. No phase transformation can be observed after being stored under ambient conditions (25 °C, 60% relative humidity (RH)) for 21 days. In addition, by combining green c‐Ni‐CsPbBr3 QDs, red CdSe‐based QDs and the blue GaN chip, a QD enhancement film (QDEF) is fabricated to form a liquid crystal display (LCD) backlit with a wide color gamut covering cover 121% of the National Television System Committee (NTSC) standard.

Stable and multicolor solid-state luminescence of Mn doped CsPb(Cl/Br)3 perovskite quantum dots and its application in light-emitting diodes

Abstract:Mn2+ doping has been developed to modulate the photoluminescence (PL) of CsPbCl3 perovskite quantum dots (PQDs). However, the doped Mn2+ may be expelled from the PQDs host with the long-term storing, resulting in inferior stability. Herein, CsPbCl3 PQDs doped with different concentrations of Mn2+ (Mn:CsPbCl3) are prepared by a hot injection method. Our photostability tests reveal that when the doping concentration is <25%, or 40%- 50%, the Mn2+ doped PQDs are intrinsically stable. Anion exchange reactions are conducted between the stable CsPb0.796Mn0.204Cl3 and CsPbBr3 PQDs. Fluorescence color gamut of the resulting Mn:CsPb(Cl/Br)3 PQDs almost covers the entire visible spectrum except for the deep red color. Benefiting from the intrinsic stability and wide color gamut, multicolor solid-state luminescence are acquired by incorporating the Mn:CsPb(Cl/Br)3 PQDs in polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) matrices, which are used as color converters for constructing light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with different colors.

Abstract:As a new generation of luminous material, perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) possess many excellent properties. However, PQDs suffer from dramatic decrease of optical performance when affected by high temperature. In this paper, methamidine acetate (FA+) and manganese divalent cation (Mn2+) codoped CsPbCl3 quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized. The introduced FA+ and Mn2+ were designed to substitute Cs+ (A sites) and Pb2+ (B sites), respectively. By comparison with CsPbCl3:Mn2+ QDs, the results show that the CsPbCl3:FA+,Mn2+ QDs improve the blue exciton luminescence by 15% and the red Mn2+ ions luminescence by 37%. Furthermore, CsPbCl3:FA+,Mn2+ QDs demonstrate super thermal stability by maintaining 97% of Mn2+ emission when the temperature is raised to 70 °C even after 6 thermal cycles. Simultaneously, the UV light and water stability of CsPbCl3:FA+,Mn2+ QDs have also been obviously enhanced. The powder of the coped PQDs have been fabricated into a white LED which exhibits Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 88.2 and Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) of 5745 K. It shows that CsPbCl3:FA+,Mn2+ QDs not only reduce the Pb2+ ions toxicity problem but also boost the thermal stability and thermal cyclability, which may open up more possibilities for the applications in optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:AbstractColloidal quantum dots (QDs) are considered to be a promising candidate for light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) applications considering their wide gamut range, simple color tuning, compatibility with large‐size and flexible substrates. Benefiting from the distinguished properties such as high photoluminescence quantum efficiency (PLQY), narrow emission linewidth, and low material cost, perovskite QDs have attracted wide attention from researchers. Despite tremendous progress has been made during the past several years, perovskite QDs‐based LEDs (QLEDs) are still plagued by the instability arising from the operation of the perovskite QLEDs, which have not been studied systematically. In this review, the origin of the instability of perovskite QLEDs is attributed to the vulnerability of emission materials and constituent layers. Simultaneously, the effective strategies to improve the durability of perovskite QDs and QLEDs are summarized, such as component engineering, ligand passivation, fabrication of robust and uniform constituent layers, as well as adopt appropriate device structures and driving modes. Ultimately, we put forward insights on the future research direction and prospects for perovskite QLEDs in practical applications.
Highly stable CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots incorporated in aluminum stearate

Abstract:CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) have drawn much attention for their high photoluminescence quantum yield and great potential in optoelectronic applications. However, they suffer from poor stability under humid condition. This paper reports CsPbBr3 PQDs incorporated in aluminum stearate (AlSt3) matrix via an improved co-precipitation approach, in which AlSt3 not only acted as hydrophobic matrix to protect CsPbBr3 PQDs from surrounding environment, but also passivated the surface of PQDs via the coordination bond of St-Cs and St-Pb, as well as bond between Al3+ and Br-. By this method, the as-synthesized CsPbBr3-AlSt3 composites exhibited excellent stability in ambient condition even directly in water for more than 60 days. With the CsPbBr3-AlSt3 composites (green emission) used as color-conversion layer, a white light-emitting diode (WLED) was fabricated with a high color rendering index (Ra) of 90 and a low color temperature (Tc) of 4929 K. These results suggest that this method pave an effective way to stabilize CsPbBr3 PQDs, which is of great importance for their further application.

Abstract:High-performance pure red perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) with an emission wavelength shorter than 650 nm are ideal for wide-color-gamut displays, yet remain an unprecedented challenge to progress. Mixed-halide CsPb(Br/I) 3 emitter-based PeLEDs suffer spectral stability induced by halide phase segregation and CsPbI 3 quantum dots (QDs) suffer from a compromise between emission wavelength and electroluminescence efficiency. Here, we demonstrate efficient pure red PeLEDs with an emission centered at 638 nm based on PbCl x -modified CsPbI 3 QDs. A nucleophilic reaction that releases chloride ions and manipulates the ligand equilibrium of the colloidal system is developed to synthesize the pure red emission QDs. The comprehensive structural and spectroscopic characterizations evidence the formation of PbCl x outside the CsPbI 3 QDs, which regulates exciton recombination and prevents the exciton from dissociation induced by surface defects. In consequence, PeLEDs based on PbCl x -modified CsPbI 3 QDs with superior optoelectronic properties demonstrate stable electroluminescence spectra at high driving voltages, a record external quantum efficiency of 26.1 %, optimal efficiency roll-off of 16.0 % at 1000 cd m −2 , and a half lifetime of 7.5 hours at 100 cd m −2 , representing the state-of-the-art pure red PeLEDs. This work provides new insight into constructing the carrier-confined structure on perovskite QDs for high-performance PeLEDs.
