Abstract:The further practical applications of halide perovskite quantum dots (QDs) are blocked by problems of instability and nonradiative Auger recombination manifested as photoluminescence blinking. Here, single core/shell structured perovskite semiconductor QDs are successfully fabricated by capping CsPbBr3 QD core with CdS shell. It is demonstrated that CsPbBr3/CdS core/shell QDs exhibit ultrahigh chemical stability and nonblinking photoluminescence with high quantum yield due to the reduced electronic traps within the core/shell structure. Efficiency of amplified spontaneous emission exhibits obvious enhancement compared to that of pure CsPbBr3 QDs, originating from the mitigated competition between stimulated emission and suppressed nonradiative biexciton Auger recombination. Furthermore, low-threshold whispering-gallery-mode lasing with a high-quality factor is achieved by incorporating CsPbBr3/CdS QDs into microtubule resonators. Density functional theory (DFT)-based first-principles calculations are also performed to reveal the atomic interface structure, which supports the existence of CsPbBr3/CdS structure. An interesting feature of spatially separated charge density at CsPbBr3/CdS interface is found, which may greatly contribute to the suppressed Auger recombination. The results provide a practical approach to improve the stability and suppress the blinking of halide perovskite QDs, which may pave the way for future applications for various optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Perovskite and chalcogenide quantum dots (QDs) are important nano semiconductors. It has been a challenge to synthesize heterostructural QDs combining perovskite and chalcogenide with tailorable photoelectronic properties. In this report, heterostructural CsPbX3-PbS (X = Cl, Br, I) QDs were successfully synthesized via a room temperature in situ transformation route. The CsPbX3-PbS QDs show a tunable dual emission feature with the visible and near-infrared (NIR) photoluminescence (PL) corresponding to CsPbX3 and PbS, respectively. Typically, the formation and evolution of the heterostructural CsPbBr3-PbS QDs with reaction time was investigated. Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) was applied to illuminate the exciton dynamics in CsPbBr3-PbS QDs. The mild synthetic method and TAS proved perovskite to PbS energy transfer may pave the way toward highly efficient QD photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Colloidal perovskite quantum dots (CsPbX 3 ) are highly desirable in optoelectronics due to their favorable optical properties. However, their instability limits their practical application. This study investigates the use of metal-organic frameworks as carrier matrices for perovskite quantum dots, which could enhance their stability without compromising their optical properties. Here, CsPbBr 3 @ZIF-8 composite materials were synthesized through an in-situ growth method. The results demonstrate that the CsPbBr 3 quantum dots in the composite exhibit a significantly longer lifetime (increasing from 11 ns to 39 ns), higher quantum yield (increasing from 32 % to 53 %) compared to pure perovskite quantum dots. The photothermal stability of the composite is also superior to that of the pure quantum dots, as the composite maintains 81 % of its quantum yield under light, 82 % under wet air, and 72.5 % under continuous heating at 120 °C. Furthermore, the CsPbBr 3 @ZIF-8 based flexible fluorescent film shows adjustable viscosity, which provides a novel approach for next-generation flexible displays.

Abstract:Abstract The photostability issue of CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) quantum dots (QDs) is one of the key origins for the degradation of their luminescence performance, which hinders their application in lighting and displays. Herein, we report a new method combining doping and ligand engineering, which effectively improves the photostability of CsPbBr 3 QDs and the performance of QD light-emitting diodes (QLEDs). In this method, ZnBr 2 is doped into CsPbBr 3 QDs to reduce surface anion defects; didodecyldimethyl ammonium bromide (DDAB) and tetraoctylammonium bromide (TOAB) hybrid ligands, which have strong adsorption with QDs, are employed to protect the surface and enhance the conductivity of QD layer in QLEDs. The photoluminescence (PL) and transmission electron microscopy measurements prove the effectively improved photostability of CsPbX 3 QDs. Moreover, reduced defects and improved conductivity by doping and hybrid ligands treatment also enable the improved electroluminescence performance of CsPbX 3 QDs. The maximum luminance and external quantum efficiency of the QLED with optimized CsPbX 3 QDs are 3518.9 cd m −2 and 5.07%, which are 3.6 and 2.1 times than that of the control device, respectively. Combining doping and hybrid ligands makes perovskite QDs have an extremely promising prospect in future applications of high-definition displays, high-quality lighting, as well as solar cells.

Abstract:Inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted great attention due to their remarkable thermal and moisture stability. However, the low photoelectric conversion efficiency (PCE) of inorganic PSCs due to the high trap state density, high carrier recombination rate, and poor carrier transport kinetics impedes their industrial applications. Herein, a remarkable bulk heterojunction structure coupling SnS quantum dots (QDs) with CsPbBr3 is prepared for the first time via a facile spin-coating process using a SnS-QD-dispersed toluene solution as an antisolvent. The introduction of SnS QDs provides extra crystallization sites and promotes the crystallization of perovskites along (100) and (200) faces. Meanwhile, the bulk heterojunction structure with matched energy structure can effectively reduce the trap state density of the perovskite film and improves the dynamic performance of carriers, suppressing the charge recombination rate and effectively boosting the PCE of solar cells. As a result, the optimal bulk heterojunction solar cell achieves a PCE of 8.01%, about 52% higher than that of the pristine solar cell. This work provides a low-cost and facile strategy for preparing high-performance bulk heterojunction PSCs and an effective method to boost the PCE by nontoxic QDs.

Abstract:CsPbIxBry-based all-inorganic perovskite materials are a potential candidate for stable semitransparent and tandem structured photovoltaic devices. However, poor film (morphological and crystalline) quality and interfacial recombination lead consequently to a decline in the photoelectric conversion performance of the applied solar cells. In this work, we incorporated PbS quantum dots (QDs) at the interface of electron transporting layer (ETL) SnO2 and perovskite to modulate the crystallization of CsPbIBr2 and the interfacial charge dynamics in carbon-based solar cells. The as-casted PbS QDs behave as seeds for lattice-matching the epitaxial growth of pinhole-free CsPbIBr2 films. The modified films with reduced defect density exhibit facilitated carrier transfer and suppressed charge recombination at the ETL/perovskite interface, contributing to an enhanced device efficiency from 7.00 to 9.09% and increased reproducibility and ambient stability. This strategic method of QD-assisted lattice-matched epitaxial growth is promising to prepare high-quality perovskite films for efficient perovskite solar cells.

Abstract:Abstract All-inorganic CsPbI 3 perovskite quantum dots have received substantial research interest for photovoltaic applications because of higher efficiency compared to solar cells using other quantum dots materials and the various exciting properties that perovskites have to offer. These quantum dot devices also exhibit good mechanical stability amongst various thin-film photovoltaic technologies. We demonstrate higher mechanical endurance of quantum dot films compared to bulk thin film and highlight the importance of further research on high-performance and flexible optoelectronic devices using nanoscale grains as an advantage. Specifically, we develop a hybrid interfacial architecture consisting of CsPbI 3 quantum dot/PCBM heterojunction, enabling an energy cascade for efficient charge transfer and mechanical adhesion. The champion CsPbI 3 quantum dot solar cell has an efficiency of 15.1% (stabilized power output of 14.61%), which is among the highest report to date. Building on this strategy, we further demonstrate a highest efficiency of 12.3% in flexible quantum dot photovoltaics.

Abstract:The distinguished electronic and optical properties of all-inorganic lead halide perovskites (CsPbX 3 , X = Cl, Br, I) qualify them as ideal candidates for active layer in optoelectronic devices, especially showing more competitive development prospects in photodetection with high performance. However, superior device performance and good long-term stability is still a challenge for perovskite-based photodetectors applying in practical situation. Herein, we demonstrate a novel hetero-integrated MoS 2 /CsPbBr 3 photodetector displaying efficient device performance, where the MoS 2 nanocrystals pre-synthesized by hydrothermal route were spin-coated on the surface of CsPbBr 3 films with controllable dispersion, providing effective interfacial photo-carriers separation at MoS 2 /CsPbBr 3 van der Waals heterojunction (vdWH) and significant defect passivation for perovskite grain boundaries (GBs) simultaneously, thus boosting optoelectronic performance of our device within ultraviolet (UV)-visible wavelength range, including a higher photoresponsivity (4.79 A/W), enhanced specific detectivity (8.81 × 10 12 Jones) and more durable stability than that of the pristine CsPbBr 3 photodetector. Furthermore, the fast response speed (0.17/0.22 ms) is obviously more outstanding than that of most CsPbBr 3 -based and congeneric hybrid photodetectors. These results, combined with our experimental design strategy of the device described herein, provide an efficient approach to achieve stable, high-performance photodetection using perovskite-based hybrid nanomaterial systems, thus opening up new possibilities for two-dimensional (2D) materials/perovskites hetero-integration based photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications in the future.

Abstract:Inhomogeneous Pb/Sn elemental distribution and the resulted phase segregation in mixed Pb-Sn halide perovskites would result in energy disorder (band structure and phase distribution disorder), which greatly limits their photovoltaic performance. Here, PbS quantum dot has been synthesized and demonstrated as seeds for modulation crystallization dynamics of the mixed Pb-Sn inorganic perovskites, allowing an enhanced film quality and significantly suppressing phase segregation. With this additive power conversion efficiency of 8% and 6% is obtained under irradiation of full sunlight in planar and mesoporous structured solar cells in combination with CsPb0.5Sn0.5I2Br inorganic perovskite, respectively. Our finding reveals exploring the actual Pb/Sn atoms location in perovskite structure and its influence on developing efficient and stable low-bandgap perovskite solar cells.

Abstract:The construction of heterojunction between NIR photoelectric materials and other types of materials has the potential to improve the performance of VIS-NIR photoelectric materials and broaden the absorption spectrum. In this study, the properties and theoretical calculations are carried out using the near-infrared photoelectric material PbS and the perovskite material CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) to build heterostructures. The appropriate lattice mismatch rates (4.5 %, 2 % and 4.6 %) between PbS and CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) ensure the feasibility of constructing PbS/CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) heterogeneous structures. The electronic properties calculations revealed physical mechanisms that improve luminous efficiency. Notably, the I-type band alignment (-5.02eV < PbS < −3.77eV, −5.85eV < CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) < -3.35eV) at the PbS/CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) interface facilitates efficient electron and hole transfer from the CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) quantum dots to the PbS material, which was further validated by the observed difference in charge density. Among them, the electron cloud of PbS/CsPbCl 3 heterostructure is more obvious, and the charge transfer ability is better than that of the other two heterostructures. The heterostructures extend the light absorption range of CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) from visible to near-infrared under the influence of PbS. By comparing the light absorption functions, it is found that PbS/CsPbI 3 > PbS/CsPbCl 3 > PbS/CsPbBr 3 in this range. Regarding comprehensive stability, charge density transfer, and optical properties, PbS/CsPbCl 3 has the best performance. Under the premise of ensuring stability, different light absorption characteristics can be achieved by adjusting the composition of halogen atoms in PbS/CsPbCl 3 . This study provides a theoretical basis for enhancing the performance of the PbS/CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) heterostructures in VIS-NIR optoelectronic materials through investigations of their electronic and optical properties. Abstract:While organic–inorganic halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) show great potential for realizing low‐cost and easily fabricated photovoltaics, the unexpected defects and long‐term stability against moisture are the main issues hindering their practical applications. Herein, a strategy is demonstrated to address the main issues by introducing lead sulfide quantum dots (QDs) on the perovskite surface as the multifunctional interface layer on perovskite film through establishing perovskite as the ligand on PbS QDs. Meanwhile, the multifunctions are featured in three aspects including the strong interactions of PbS QDs with perovskites particularly at the grain boundaries favoring good QDs coverage on perovskites for ultimate smooth morphology; an inhibition of iodide ions mobilization by the strong interaction between iodide and the incorporated QDs; and the reduction of the dangling bonds of Pb2+ by the sulfur atoms of PbS QDs. Finally, the device performances are highly improved due to the reduced defects and non‐radiative recombination. The results show that both open‐circuit voltage and fill factor are significantly improved to the high values of 1.13 V and 80%, respectively in CH3NH3PbI3‐based PSCs, offering a high efficiency of 20.64%. The QDs incorporation also enhances PSCs' stability benefitting from the induced hydrophobic surface and suppressed iodide mobilization.

Abstract:Lead halide perovskites (LHPs) have received increased attention owing to their intriguing optoelectronic and photonic properties. However, the toxicity of lead and the lack of long-term stability are potential obstacles for the application of LHPs. Herein, the epitaxial synthesis of CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite quantum dots (QDs) by surface chemical conversion of Cs2 GeF6 double perovskites with PbX2 (X = Cl, Br, I) is reported. The experimental results show that the surface of the Cs2 GeF6 double perovskites is partially converted into CsPbX3 perovskite QDs and forms a CsPbX3 /Cs2 GeF6 hybrid structure. The theoretical calculations reveal that the CsPbBr3 conversion proceeds at the Cs2 GeF6 edge through sequential growth of multiple PbBr6 4- layers. Through the conversion strategy, luminescent and color-tunable CsPbX3 QDs can be obtained, and these products present high stability against decomposition due to anchoring effects. Moreover, by partially converting red emissive Cs2 GeF6 :Mn4+ to green emissive CsPbBr3 , the CsPbBr3 /Cs2 GeF6 :Mn4+ hybrid can be employed as a low-lead hybrid perovskite phosphor on blue LED chips to produce white light. The leadless CsPbX3 /Cs2 GeF6 hybrid structure with stable photoluminescence opens new paths for the rational design of efficient emission phosphors and may stimulate the design of other functional CsPbX3 /Cs-containing hybrid structures.

Abstract:Organic photovoltaics and halide perovskite solar cells are both solution-processable third-generation photovoltaic devices (PVs) attracting enormous research attention. In this study, we demonstrate a hybrid organic and perovskite PV device by mixing all-inorganic CsPbI3 quantum dots (QDs) into the conventional organic bulk heterojunction active layer of PBDB-T:IT-M. It is found that the charge transfer properties between QDs and organic donor/acceptor interfaces can be fine-tuned with the size modulation and the heterovalent bismuth (Bi) doping of perovskite QDs, leading to an increase in open-circuit voltage. In addition, the incorporation of perovskite QDs with different sizes could effectively modify the nanoscale bulk heterojunction morphology toward more efficient charge collection and thus a higher fill factor. The photocurrent of the devices can also be improved through Rayleigh scattering and light absorption of the QDs. As a result, a noticeable enhancement in device performance has been achieved by the PBDB-T:IT-M with 10 nm Bi-doped CsPbI3 QD device. Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer Effect Enhanced High Performance of Si Quantum Dots/CsPbBr3 Inverse Opal Heterostructure Perovskite Solar Cells

Abstract:CsPbBr3 based perovskite solar cells draw boosted investigation benefitting from their simplified preparation property and outstanding stability against moist and heat while the photo-electrical conversion efficiency (PCE) is still worth promotion. In addition, relatively wide band gap limits the light utilization ability of pristine CsPbBr3 which leads to insufficient photo-induced charge carrier population thereby a low photocurrent density. Herein, we for the first time demonstrate a strategy to combine crystalized Si quantum dots (QDs) with CsPbBr3 inverse opal (IO) which significantly enhances the solar energy utilization efficiency by virtue of providing an additional fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) process from Si QDs to CsPbBr3 IO. Acting as donor, the emitted photoluminescence from Si QDs can be absorbed by CsPbBr3, which serves as acceptor, leading to an increased carrier population in the system. Meanwhile, the multi-dimensional heterojunction between Si QDs and CsPbBr3 IO effectively facilitates the system bulk charge transfer process. A greatly improved PCE up to 8.31% with an obviously enhanced photocurrent density up to 7.8 mA⋅cm−2 can be obtained with a competitive IPCE up to 81%. This strategy provides a new alternative method to develop high-performance perovskite solar cells and other photo-electronic devices.
Efficient carrier generation and transport of CsPb1-xMnx(Br/Cl)3 quantum dots in high-performance carbon-based perovskite solar cells

Abstract:In this study, CsPb 1- x Mn x (Br/Cl) 3 quantum dots with high photoluminescence intensity are reported. Through doping Mn 2+ , the defects existing in the lattice structure are reduced and the bond angle between x and y directions in one-unit cell changes from 120° to 90°. With the increase in Mn content, the valence band of the quantum dots decreases from − 3.54 to − 3.96 eV, which is closer to the 4 T 1 energy level of Mn 2+ . The photoluminescence quantum yield confirms the enhancement of its characteristic luminescence as Mn content increases. Furthermore, CsPb 1- x Mn x (Br/Cl) 3 quantum dots are introduced into the active layer of carbon-based perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Contributed by its characteristic luminescence enhancement and defect passivation, the generation of photogenerated carriers is promoted and the carrier transport in the perovskite layer is improved. Steady-state photoluminescence and incident photon-to-electron conversion efficiency confirm the promotion of quantum dots on photogenerated carrier generation and electron extraction efficiency. Meanwhile, due to the tunable energy bands of quantum dots, the optimized cells have better energy band alignment, which contributes to the improvement of open circuit voltage. Finally, the power conversion efficiency of PSCs reaches 14.76%, which is 15.76% higher than that of the reference sample of 12.75%.
