Abstract:These lecture notes are based on the second course in a series of lectures at the Spring school "Non-archimedean geometry and Eigenvarieties" in March 2023 in Heidelberg. The objective of the first three courses was to give an introduction to the theory of adic spaces. Building up on the theory of Huber pairs presented in John Bergdall's lecture we explain the construction of adic spaces. We study some important classes of adic spaces such as rigid analytic spaces and formal schemes and show the connections between them. In the course of the lecture we will illustrate the respective concepts with the fundamental examples of the open and closed disc and the affine line.

Abstract:These are expanded and revised notes for a minicourse entitled "Affine W-algebras", which took place as part of the thematic month "Quantum Symmetries" at the Centre de Recherches Mathematiques in Montreal, Canada in October 2022. The first few sections consist of rapid introductions to vertex algebras, affine Kac-Moody algebras and their integrable and admissible modules, and the homological BRST procedure for quantum Hamiltonian reduction. The affine W-algebras are defined using these ingredients. The remainder of the notes treats the structure and representation theory of the exceptional affine W-algebras, with emphasis on modular tensor categories of representations.

Abstract:In this paper, we record some foundational results on adic geometry that seem to be missing in the existing literature. Namely, we develop the Proj construction and a theory of lci closed immersions in the context of locally noetherian analytic adic spaces. In the context of rigid-analytic spaces, these topics have previously been considered in [GL21] and [Con07]. We also develop an etale six functor formalism in the analytic geometry and give a categorical description of lisse and constructible sheaves. All results of this paper are probably well-known to the experts.

Abstract:The main objects of study are adic spaces with logarithmic structures. After establishing the basic definitions, we analyze the Kummer \'etale and pro-Kummer \'etale topologies on log adic spaces. In particular, we show that log adic spaces are locally "log affinoid perfectoid" in the pro-Kummer \'etale topology. As an application, we prove finiteness of cohomologies for Kummer \'etale $\mathbb{F}_p$-local systems on proper log smooth adic spaces.

Abstract:Four lectures on invertible field theories at the Park City Mathematics Institute 2019. Cobordism categories are introduced both as plain categories and topologically enriched. We then discuss localization of categories and its relationship to classifying spaces, and state the main theorem of classification of invertible field theories in these terms. We also discuss symmetric monoidal structures and their relationship to actions of the little disk operads. In the final lecture we discuss an application of cobordism categories to characteristic classes of surface bundles. Emphasis will be on self-contained definitions and statements, referring to original literature for proofs. We also include problem sets from the three exercise sessions at the summer school, and solutions to two problems.

After giving a general introduction to wonderful varieties, and an explicit construction of the wonderful compactification of a semisimple adjoint group, we outline several connections to Poisson geometry and to varieties of Lagrangian subalgebras. Abstract:This is a survey paper about moduli spaces that have a natural structure of a (possibly incomplete) locally symmetric variety. We outline the Baily-Borel compactification for such varieties and compare it with the compactifications furnished by techniques in algebraic geometry. Abstract:In [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2008.04625" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2008.04625">arXiv:2008.04625</a>] the authors constructed a classifying space for polystable holomorphic vector bundles on a compact Kähler manifold using analytic GIT theory. The aim of this article is to show that this classifying space taken in the weakly normal category is a coarse moduli space in the sense of complex geometry when the topology is fixed as induced by the space of Hermite-Einstein connections modulo the group of unitary gauge transformations.

Abstract:These are the notes from a course of five lectures at the 2009 Park City Math Institute. The focus is on elliptic curves over function fields over finite fields. In the first three lectures, we explain the main classical results (mainly due to Tate) on the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture in this context and its connection to the Tate conjecture about divisors on surfaces. This is preceded by a "Lecture 0" on background material. In the remaining two lectures, we discuss more recent developments on elliptic curves of large rank and constructions of explicit points in high rank situations.

Abstract:These are lecture notes for five lectures given at MPI Leipzig in May 2024. We study the moduli space M_{0,n} of n distinct points on P^1 as a positive geometry and a binary geometry. We develop mathematical formalism to study Cachazo-He-Yuan's scattering equations and the associated scalar and Yang-Mills amplitudes. We discuss open superstring amplitudes and relations to tropical geometry.

Derived $C^{\infty}$-Geometry I: Foundations

Abstract:This work is the first in a series laying the foundations of derived geometry in the $C^{\infty}$ setting, and providing tools for the construction and study of moduli spaces of solutions of Partial Differential Equations that arise in differential geometry and mathematical physics. To advertise the advantages of such a theory, we start with a detailed introduction to derived $C^{\infty}$-geometry in the context of symplectic topology and compare and contrast with Kuranishi space theory. In the body of this work, we avail ourselves of Lurie's extensive work on abstract structured spaces to define $\infty$-categories of derived $C^{\infty}$-rings and $C^{\infty}$-schemes and derived $C^{\infty}$-rings and $C^{\infty}$-schemes with corners via a universal property in a suitable $(\infty,2)$-category of $\infty$-categories with respect to the ordinary categories of manifolds and manifolds with corners (with morphisms the $b$-maps of Melrose in the latter case), and prove many basic structural features about them. Along the way, we establish some derived flatness results for derived $C^{\infty}$-rings of independent interest.
