Abstract:We study the stable dynamics of non-polynomial automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^2$ of the form $F(z,w)=(e^{-z^m}+ \delta e^{\frac{2 \pi}{m}i}\, w\,,\,z)$, with $m\ge 2$ a natural number and $\mathbb{R}\ni\delta>2$.

Abstract:We construct automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^2$ with a cycle of escaping Fatou components, on which there are exactly two limit functions, both of rank 1. On each such Fatou component, the limit sets for these limit functions are two disjoint hyperbolic subsets of the line at infinity.

Abstract:The main theme of this paper is that singular automorphic forms on classical groups are given by theta series liftings. We establish several inequalities relating the automorphic multiplicities of a given representation and that of its abstract theta lift. Our methods allow one to lift noncuspidal, square integrable automorphic forms when the dual pair involved is in the stable range. In this way we construct new families of singular automorphic forms, many of which are clearly unipotent. In fact, starting from one-dimensional representations and repeating the procedure (of lifting in the stable range), one may obtain all automorphic forms which are quadratic unipotent in the sense of Moeglin.
Random dynamical systems of polynomial automorphisms on $\Bbb{C}^{2}$

Abstract:This paper deals with random dynamical systems of polynomial automorphisms (complex generalized Hénon maps and their conjugate maps) of $\Bbb{C}^{2}.$ We show that a generic random dynamical system of polynomial automorphisms has ``mean stablity'' on $\Bbb{C}^{2}$. Further, we show that if a system has mean stability, then (1) for each $z\in \Bbb{C}^{2}$ and for almost every sequence $\gamma =(\gamma _{n})_{n=1}^{\infty }$ of maps, the Lyapunov exponents of $\gamma $ at $z$ are negative, (2) there are only finitely many minimal sets of the system, (3) each minimal set is attracting, and (4) for each $z\in \Bbb{C}^{2}$ and for almost every sequence $\gamma $ of maps, the orbit $\{ \gamma _{n}\cdots \gamma _{1}(z) \} _{n=1}^{\infty }$ tends to one of the minimal sets of the system. Note that (1)--(4) cannot hold for any deterministic iteration dynamical system of a single complex generalized Hénon map. We observe many new phenomena in random dynamical systems of polynomial automorphisms of $\Bbb{C}^{2}$ and observe the mechanisms. We provide new strategies and methods to study higher-dimensional random holomorphic dynamical systems.

Some rigidity results for polynomial automorphisms of C^2

Abstract:We prove several new rigidity results for polynomial automorphisms of $\mathbb C^2$ with positive entropy. A first result is that a complex slice of the (forward or backward) Julia set is never a smooth, or even rectifiable, curve. We also show that such an automorphism cannot preserve a global holomorphic foliation, nor a real-analytic foliation with complex leaves. These results are used to show that under mild assumptions, two real-analytically conjugate automorphisms are polynomially conjugate. For mappings defined over a number field, we also study the fields of definition of multipliers of saddle periodic orbits.

Abstract:We construct polynomial automorphisms with wandering Fatou components. The four-dimensional automorphisms $H$ lie in a one-parameter family, depending on the parameter $\delta \in \mathbb C \setminus \{0\}$, and as $\delta \rightarrow 0$ the automorphisms degenerate to the two-dimensional polynomial map $P$ constructed in Astorg et al (Ann. of Math., 2016). Our main result states that if $P$ has a wandering domain, then $H$ does too for $\delta$ sufficiently small.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of the group of holomorphic automorphisms of the affine cubic surfaces \begin{align*} S_{A,B,C,D} = \{(x,y,z) \in \mathbb{C}^3 \, : \, x^2 + y^2 + z^2 +xyz = Ax + By+Cz+D\}, \end{align*} where $A,B,C,$ and $D$ are complex parameters. We focus on a finite index subgroup $\Gamma_{A,B,C,D} < {\rm Aut}(S_{A,B,C,D})$ whose action not only describes the dynamics of Painlevé 6 differential equations but also arises naturally in the context of character varieties. We define the Julia and Fatou sets of this group action and prove that there is a dense orbit in the Julia set. In order to show that the Julia set is ``large'' we consider a second dichotomy, between locally discrete and locally non-discrete dynamics. For an open set in parameter space, $\mathcal{N} \subset \mathbb{C}^4$, we show that there simultaneously exists an open set in $S_{A,B,C,D}$ on which $\Gamma_{A,B,C,D}$ acts locally discretely and a second open set in $S_{A,B,C,D}$ on which $\Gamma_{A,B,C,D}$ acts locally non-discretely. After removing a countable union of real-algebraic hypersurfaces from $\mathcal{N}$ we show that $\Gamma_{A,B,C,D}$ simultaneously exhibits a non-empty Fatou set and also a Julia set having non-trivial interior. The open set $\mathcal{N}$ contains a natural family of parameters previously studied by Dubrovin-Mazzocco. The interplay between the Fatou/Julia dichotomy and the locally discrete/non-discrete dichotomy plays a major theme in this paper and seems bound to play an important role in further dynamical studies of holomorphic automorphism groups.

Abstract:Motivated by recent work on strict deformation quantization of the unit disk and the Riemann sphere, we study the Fréchet space structure of the set of holomorphic functions on the complement $\Omega:=\{(z,w)\in \hat{\mathbb{C}}^2\, :\, z\cdot w\not=1\}$ of the complexified unit circle ${\{(z,w) \in \hat{\mathbb{C}}^2 \, : \, z\cdot w=1\}}$. We also characterize the subgroup of all biholomorphic automorphisms of $\Omega$ which leave the canonical Laplacian on $\Omega$ invariant.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the ratio of the modulus of the iterates of two points in an escaping Fatou component could be bounded even if the orbit of the component contains a sequence of annuli whose moduli tend to infinity, and this cannot happen when the maximal modulus of the meromorphic function is uniformly large enough. In this way we extend certain related results for entire functions to meromorphic functions with infinitely many poles.

Abstract:Structural stability of holomorphic functions has been the subject of much research in the last fifty years. Due to various technicalities, however, most of that work has focused on so-called finite-type functions (functions whose set of singular values has finite cardinality). Recent developments in the field go beyond this setting. In this paper we extend Eremenko and Lyubich's result on natural families of entire maps to the case where the set of singular values is not the entire complex plane, showing under this assumption that the set $M_f$ of entire functions quasiconformally equivalent to $f$ admits the structure of a complex manifold (of possibly infinite dimension). Moreover, we will consider functions with wandering domains -- another hot topic of research in complex dynamics. Given an entire function $f$ with a simply connected wandering domain $U$, we construct an analogue of the multiplier of a periodic orbit, called a distortion sequence, and show that, under some hypotheses, the distortion sequence moves analytically as $f$ moves within appropriate parameter families.

Abstract:We consider commuting pairs of holomorphic endomorphisms of P^2 with disjoint sequence of iterates. The remaining case to be studied is when their degrees coincide after some number of iterations. We show in this case that they are either commuting Lattès maps or commuting homogeneous polynomial maps of C^2 inducing a Lattès map on the hyperplane at infinity.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of a generic automorphism $f$ of a Stein manifold with the density property. Such manifolds include all linear algebraic groups. Even in the special case of $\mathbb C^n$, $n\geq 2$, most of our results are new. We study the Julia set, non-wandering set, and chain-recurrent set of $f$. We show that the closure of the set of saddle periodic points of $f$ is the largest forward invariant set on which $f$ is chaotic. This subset of the Julia set of $f$ is also characterised as the closure of the set of transverse homoclinic points of $f$, and equals the Julia set if and only if a certain closing lemma holds. Among the other results in the paper is a generalisation of Buzzard's holomorphic Kupka-Smale theorem to our setting.

Abstract:A parabolic automorphism of a hyperkahler manifold is a holomorphic automorphism acting on $H^2(M)$ by a non-semisimple quasi-unipotent linear map. We prove that a parabolic automorphism which preserves a Lagrangian fibration acts on its fibers ergodically. The invariance of a Lagrangian fibration is automatic for manifolds satisfying the hyperkahler SYZ conjecture; this includes all known examples of hyperkahler manifolds. When there are two parabolic automorphisms preserving two distinct Lagrangian fibration, it follows that the group they generate acts on $M$ ergodically. Our results generalize those obtained by S. Cantat for K3 surfaces.
