Abstract:We construct automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^2$ with a cycle of escaping Fatou components, on which there are exactly two limit functions, both of rank 1. On each such Fatou component, the limit sets for these limit functions are two disjoint hyperbolic subsets of the line at infinity.

Abstract:We construct automorphisms of of constant Jacobian with a cycle of escaping Fatou components, on which there are exactly two limit functions, both of rank 1. On each such Fatou component, the limit sets for these limit functions are two disjoint hyperbolic subsets of the line at infinity. In the literature there are currently very few examples of automorphisms of with rank one limit sets on the boundary of Fatou components. To our knowledge, this is the first example in which such limit sets are hyperbolic, and moreover different limit sets of rank 1 coexist.

Abstract:Let $f$ be a transcendental entire function and $U$ be a Fatou component of $f$. We show that if $U$ is an escaping wandering domain of $f$, then most boundary points of $U$ (in the sense of harmonic measure) are also escaping. In the other direction we show that if enough boundary points of $U$ are escaping, then $U$ is an escaping Fatou component. Some applications of these results are given; for example, if $I(f)$ is the escaping set of $f$, then $I(f)\cup\{\infty\}$ is connected.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the ratio of the modulus of the iterates of two points in an escaping Fatou component could be bounded even if the orbit of the component contains a sequence of annuli whose moduli tend to infinity, and this cannot happen when the maximal modulus of the meromorphic function is uniformly large enough. In this way we extend certain related results for entire functions to meromorphic functions with infinitely many poles.

Abstract:The possibilities for limit functions on a Fatou component for the iteration of a single polynomial or rational function are well understood and quite restricted. In non-autonomous iteration, where one considers compositions of arbitrary polynomials with suitably bounded degrees and coefficients, one should observe a far greater range of behavior. We show this is indeed the case and we exhibit a bounded sequence of quadratic polynomials which has a bounded Fatou component on which one obtains as limit functions every member of the classical Schlicht family of normalized univalent functions on the unit disc. The proof is based on quasiconformal surgery and the use of high iterates of a quadratic polynomial with a Siegel disc which closely approximate the identity on compact subsets. Careful bookkeeping using the hyperbolic metric is required to control the errors in approximating the desired limit functions and ensure that these errors ultimately tend to zero.

Abstract:In complex dynamics, the boundaries of higher dimensional hyperbolic components in holomorphic families of polynomials or rational maps are mysterious objects, whose topological and analytic properties are fundamental problems. In this paper, we show that in some typical families of polynomials (i.e. algebraic varieties defined by periodic critical relations), the boundary of a capture hyperbolic component ℋ is homeomorphic to the sphere S^2_ℂ(ℋ)-1. Furthermore, we establish an unexpected identity for the Hausdorff dimension of ∂ℋ: H.dim(∂ℋ) = 2 _ℂ(ℋ)-2+max_f∈∂ℋH.dim(∂ A^J(f)), where A^J(f) is the union of the bounded attracting Fatou components of f associated with the free critical points in the Julia set J(f). In the proof, some new results with independent interests are discovered.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal F$ be a holomorphic foliation on a compact Káhler surface with hyperbolic singularities and no foliation cycle. We prove that if the limit set of $\mathcal F$ has zero Lebesgue measure, then its complement is a modification of a Stein domain. The proof consists in building, in several steps, a metric of positive curvature for the normal bundle of $\mathcal F$ near the limit set. Then we construct a proper strictly plurisubharmonic exhaustion function for the complement of the limit set, by adapting Brunella's ideas to our singular context. The arguments hold more generally when the limit set is thin, a property relying on Brownian motion.

Abstract:We use adiabatic limits to study foliated manifolds. The Bott connection naturally shows up as the adiabatic limit of Levi-Civita connections. As an application, we then construct certain natural elliptic operators associated to the foliation and present a direct geometric proof of a vanshing theorem of Connes[Co], which extends the Lichnerowicz vanishing theorem [L] to foliated manifolds with spin leaves, for what we call almost Riemannian foliations. Several new vanishing theorems are also proved by using our method.

Abstract:We study the behaviour of a transcendental entire map $ f\colon \mathbb{C}\to\mathbb{C} $ on an unbounded invariant Fatou component $ U $, assuming that infinity is accessible from $ U $. It is well-known that $ U $ is simply connected. Hence, by means of a Riemann map $ \varphi\colon\mathbb{D}\to U $ and the associated inner function, the boundary of $ U $ is described topologically in terms of the disjoint union of clusters sets, each of them consisting of one or two connected components in $ \mathbb{C} $. Moreover, under more precise assumptions on the distribution of singular values, it is proven that periodic and escaping boundary points are dense in $ \partial U $, being all periodic boundary points accessible from $ U $. Finally, under the same conditions, the set of singularities of $ g $ is shown to have zero Lebesgue measure.

Abstract:We construct polynomial automorphisms with wandering Fatou components. The four-dimensional automorphisms $H$ lie in a one-parameter family, depending on the parameter $\delta \in \mathbb C \setminus \{0\}$, and as $\delta \rightarrow 0$ the automorphisms degenerate to the two-dimensional polynomial map $P$ constructed in Astorg et al (Ann. of Math., 2016). Our main result states that if $P$ has a wandering domain, then $H$ does too for $\delta$ sufficiently small.

Abstract:We first establish any continuum without interiors can be a limit set of iterations of an entire function on an oscillating wandering domain, and hence arise as a component of Julia sets. Recently, Luka Boc Thaler showed that every bounded connected regular open set, whose closure has a connected complement, is an oscillating or an escaping wandering domain of some entire function. A natural question is: What kind of domains can be realized as a periodic domain of some entire function? In this paper, we construct a sequence of entire functions whose invariant Fatou components can be approached to a regular domain.

Geometry of Complex Bounded Domains with Finite-Volume Quotients

Abstract:We first show that for a bounded pseudoconvex domain with a manifold quotient of finite-volume in the sense of Kahler-Einstein measure, the identity component of the automorphism group of this domain is semi-simple without compact factors. This partially answers an open question in [Fra95]. Then we apply this result in different settings to solve several open problems, for examples, (1). We prove that the automorphism group of the Griffiths domain [Gri71] in ℂ^2 is discrete. This gives a complete answer to an open question raised four decades ago. (2). We show that for a contractible HHR/USq complex manifold D with a finite-volume manifold quotient M, if D contains a one-parameter group of holomorphic automorphisms and the fundamental group of M is irreducible, then D is biholomorphic to a bounded symmetric domain. This theorem can be viewed as a finite-volume version of Nadel-Frankel's solution for the Kahzdan conjecture, which has been open for years. (3). We show that for a bounded convex domain D⊂ℂ^n of C^2-smooth boundary, if D has a finite-volume manifold quotient with an irreducible fundamental group, then D is biholomorphic to the unit ball in ℂ^n, which partially solves an old conjecture of Yau. For (2) and (3) above, if the complex dimension is equal to 2, more refined results will be provided.

Abstract:Let $M$ be a closed hyperbolic 3-manifold. Let $\nu_{Gr(M)}$ denote the probability volume (Haar) measure of the 2-plane Grassmann bundle $Gr(M)$ of $M$ and let $\nu_T$ denote the area measure on $Gr(M)$ of an immersed closed totally geodesic surface $T\subset M$. We say a sequence of $\pi_1$-injective maps $f_i:S_i\to M$ of surfaces $S_i$ is asymptotically Fuchsian if $f_i$ is $K_i$-quasifuchsian with $K_i\to 1$ as $i\to \infty$. We show that the set of weak-* limits of the probability area measures induced on $Gr(M)$ by asymptotically Fuchsian minimal or pleated maps $f_i:S_i\to M$ of closed connected surfaces $S_i$ consists of all convex combinations of $\nu_{Gr(M)}$ and the $\nu_T$.

Abstract:We discuss the dynamics of semigroups of transcendental entire functions using Fatou-Julia theory and provide a condition for the complete invariance of escaping set and Julia set of transcendental semigroups. Results regarding limit functions and postsingular set are also derived. In addition, classes of hyperbolic and postsingularly bounded transcendental semigroups are given. We also provide certain criterion for non existence of wandering domains of transcendental semigroups.

Abstract:We study the different rates of escape of points under iteration by holomorphic self-maps of $\mathbb C^*=\mathbb C\setminus\{ 0\}$ for which both 0 and $\infty$ are essential singularities. Using annular covering lemmas we construct different types of orbits, including fast escaping and arbitrarily slowly escaping orbits to either 0, $\infty$ or both. We also prove several properties about the set of fast escaping points for this class of functions. In particular, we show that there is an uncountable collection of disjoint sets of fast escaping points each of which has the Julia set as its boundary.
