Abstract:Given a locally compact group bundle, we show that the system of the Plancherel weights of their C*-algebras is lower semi-continuous. As a corollary, we obtain that the dual Haar sytem of a continuous Haar system of a locally compact abelian group bundle is also continuous.

Abstract:A characterization of unconditional convergent series is given for the case of sequentially complete locally convex spaces. From it we show that if E is a barrelled space with continuous dual E', then (E', beta(E', E)) contains no copy of (c(0), parallel to.parallel to(infinity)) if and only if every continuous linear operator T : E --> l(1) is both compact and sequentially compact.
Almost Representations of Groupoids on Banach Bundles

Abstract:We extend an old result of de la Harpe and Karoubi, concerning almost representations of compact groups, to proper groupoids admitting continuous Haar measure systems. As an application, we establish the existence of sufficiently many continuous representations of such groupoids on finite-rank Hilbert bundles locally, and use this fact to prove a new generalization of the classical Tannaka duality theorem to groupoids in a purely topological setting.

Abstract:We prove that (a) the sections space of a continuous unital subhomogeneous $C^*$ bundle over compact metrizable $X$ admits a finite-index expectation onto $C(X)$, answering a question of Blanchard-Gogić (in the metrizable case); (b) such expectations cannot, generally, have ``optimal index'', answering negatively a variant of the same question; and (c) a homogeneous continuous Banach bundle over a locally paracompact base space $X$ can be renormed into a Hilbert bundle in such a manner that the original space of bounded sections is $C_b(X)$-linearly Banach-Mazur-close to the resulting Hilbert module over the algebra $C_b(X)$ of continuous bounded functions on $X$. This last result resolves quantitatively another problem posed by Gogić.

Automatic continuity of Polynomial maps and cocycles

Abstract:Classical theorems from the early 20th century state that any Haar measurable homomorphism between locally compact groups is continuous. In particular, any Lebesgue-measurable homomorphism $\phi:\mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}$ is of the form $\phi(x)=ax$ for some $a \in \mathbb{R}$. In this short note, we prove that any Lebesgue measurable function $\phi:\mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}$ that vanishes under any $d+1$ ``difference operators'' is a polynomial of degree at most $d$. More generally, we prove the continuity of any Haar measurable polynomial map between locally compact groups, in the sense of Leibman. We deduce the above result as a direct consequence of a theorem about the automatic continuity of cocycles.

Abstract:The Haar measure on some locally compact quantum groups is constructed. The main example we treat is the az+b-group of Woronowicz. We also briefly consider some other examples (like the ax+b-group). We get the first examples of a locally compact quantum group where the Haar measure is not invariant with respect to the scaling group.

Abstract:A 2009 article of Allcock and Vaaler examined the vector space $\mathcal G := \overline{\mathbb Q}^\times/\overline{\mathbb Q}^\times_{\mathrm{tors}}$ over $\mathbb Q$, describing its completion with respect to the Weil height as a certain $L^1$ space. By involving an object called a consistent map, the author began efforts to establish representation theorems for the duals of spaces related to $\mathcal G$. Specifically, we provided representation theorems for the algebraic and continuous duals of $\overline{\mathbb Q}^\times/{\overline{\mathbb Z}}^\times$. We explore further applications of consistent maps to provide representation theorems for duals of other spaces arising in the work of Allcock and Vaaler. In particular, we establish a connection between consistent maps and locally constant functions on the space of places of $\overline{\mathbb Q}$. We further apply our new results to recover, as a corollary, a main theorem of our previous work.

Abstract:We prove that subhomogeneous continuous Banach bundles over compact metrizable spaces are equivalent to Hilbert bundles, while examples show that the metrizability assumption cannot be dropped completely. This complements the parallel statement for homogeneous bundles without the metrizability assumption, and generalizes the analogous result to the effect that subhomogeneous $C^*$ bundles over compact metrizable spaces admit finite-index expectations.

Abstract:The paper describes two possible ways of extending the definition of Haar measure to non-Hausdorff locally compact groups. The first one forces compact sets to be measurable: with this construction, a counterexample to the existence of the Haar measure is provided. The second one makes use of closed compact sets instead of compact sets in the definition of Radon measure: this way, the classical theorems of existence and uniqueness of the Haar measure can be generalised to locally compact groups, not necessarily Hausdorff.

Abstract:We present a real-space adaptive-coordinate method, which combines the advantages of the finite-difference approach with the accuracy and flexibility of the adaptive coordinate method. The discretized Kohn-Sham equations are written in generalized curvilinear coordinates and solved self-consistently by means of an iterative approach. The Poisson equation is solved in real space using the Multigrid algorithm. We implemented the method on a massively parallel computer, and applied it to the calculation of the equilibrium geometry and harmonic vibrational frequencies of the CO_2, CO, N_2 and F_2 molecules, yielding excellent agreement with the results of accurate quantum chemistry and Local Density Functional calculations.

Abstract:We study the local-triviality dimensions of actions on $C^*$-algebras, which are invariants developed for noncommutative Borsuk-Ulam theory. While finiteness of the local-triviality dimensions is known to guarantee freeness of an action, we show that free actions need not have finite weak local-triviality dimension. Moreover, the local-triviality dimensions of a continuous field may be greater than those of its individual fibers, and the dimensions may fail to vary continuously across the fibers. However, in certain circumstances upper semicontinuity of the weak local-triviality dimension is guaranteed. We examine these results and counterexamples with a focus on noncommutative tori and noncommutative spheres, both in terms of computation and theory.

Abstract:Let ${\sf G}$ be a locally compact group, $\mathscr C\overset{q}{\to}{\sf G}$ a Fell bundle and $\mathfrak B=L^1({\sf G}\,\vert\,\mathscr C)$ the algebra of integrable cross-sections associated to the bundle. We give conditions that guarantee the automatic continuity of an intertwining operator $\theta:\mathcal X_1\to\mathcal X_2$, where $\mathcal X_1$ is a Banach $\mathfrak B$-bimodule and $\mathcal X_2$ is a weak Banach $\mathfrak B$-bimodule, in terms of the continuity ideal of $\theta$. We provide examples of algebras where this conditions are met, both in the case of derivations and algebra morphisms. In particular, we show that, if ${\sf G}$ is infinite, finitely-generated, has polynomial growth and $\alpha$ is a free (partial) action of ${\sf G}$ on the compact space $X$, then every homomorphism of $\ell^1_\alpha({\sf G},C(X))$ into a Banach algebra is automatically continuous.

Abstract:Different (fibrewise) amalgamated products of continuous C*-bundles have been studied over the last years, one of the main question being to know when these amalgamated products are continuous C*-bundles. In order to gather these approaches in a joint framework, we first recall a few definitions from the theory of deformations of C*-algebras and we fix several notations that will be used in the sequel. Then we characterise the continuity properties of different amalgamated products of (continuous) C(X)-algebras.

Abstract:We show that a continuously-normed Banach bundle $\mathcal{E}$ over a compact Hausdorff space $X$ whose space of sections is algebraically finitely-generated (f.g.) over $C(X)$ is locally trivial (and hence the section space is projective f.g over $C(X)$); this answers a question of I. Gogić. As a preliminary we also provide sufficient conditions for a quotient bundle to be continuous phrased in terms of the Vietoris continuity of the unit-ball maps attached to the bundles. Related results include (a) the fact that the category of topologically f.g. continuous Banach bundles over $X$ is symmetric monoidal under the (fiber-wise-maximal) tensor product, (b) the full faithfulness of the global-section functor from topologically f.g. continuous bundles to $C(X)$-modules and (c) the consequent identification of the algebraically f.g. bundles as precisely the rigid objects in the aforementioned symmetric monoidal category.

Lower semicontinuity of monotone functionals in the mixed topology on $C_b$

Abstract:The main result of this paper characterizes the continuity from below of monotone functionals on the space $C_b$ of bounded continuous functions on an arbitrary Polish space as lower semicontinuity in the mixed topology. In this particular situation, the mixed topology coincides with the Mackey topology for the dual pair $(C_b,{\rm ca})$, where ${\rm ca}$ denotes the space of all countably additive signed Borel measures of finite variation. Hence, lower semicontinuity in the mixed topology of convex monotone maps $C_b\to \mathbb R$ is equivalent to a dual representation in terms of countably additive measures. Such representations are of fundamental importance in finance, e.g., in the context of risk measures and super hedging problems. Based on the main result, regularity properties of capacities and dual representations of Choquet integrals in terms of countably additive measures for $2$-alternating capacities are studied. In a second step, the paper provides a characterization of equicontinuity in the mixed topology for families of convex monotone maps. As a consequence, for every convex monotone map on $C_b$ taking values in a locally convex vector lattice, continuity in the mixed topology is equivalent to continuity on norm bounded sets.

On regularity of conjugacy between linear cocycles over partially hyperbolic systems

Abstract:We consider Hölder continuous $GL(d,\mathbb R)$-valued cocycles, and more generally linear cocycles, over an accessible volume-preserving center-bunched partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism. We study the regularity of a conjugacy between two cocycles. We establish continuity of a measurable conjugacy between {\em any} constant $GL(d,\mathbb R)$-valued cocycle and its perturbation. We deduce this from our main technical result on continuity of a measurable conjugacy between a fiber bunched linear cocycle and a cocycle with a certain block-triangular structure. The latter class covers constant cocycles with one Lyapunov exponent. We also establish a result of independent interest on continuity of measurable solutions for twisted vector-valued cohomological equations over partially hyperbolic systems. In addition, we give more general versions of earlier results on regularity of invariant subbudles, Riemannian metrics, and conformal structures.

Abstract:Colmez, Dospinescu and Niziol have shown that the only $p$-adic representations of $\rm{Gal}(\bar{\mathbb{Q}}_p/\mathbb{Q}_p)$ appearing in the $p$-adic étale cohomology of the coverings of Drinfeld's half-plane are the $2$-dimensional cuspidal representations (i.e. potentially semi-stable, whose associated Weil-Deligne representation is irreducible) with Hodge-Tate weights $0$ and $1$ and their multiplicities are given by the $p$-adic Langlands correspondence. We generalise this result to arbitrary weights, by considering the $p$-adic étale cohomology with coefficients in the symmetric powers of the universal local system on Drinfeld's tower. A novelty is the appearance of potentially semistable $2$-dimensional non-cristabelian representations, with expected multiplicity. The key point is that the local systems we consider turn out to be particularly simple: they are "isotrivial opers" on a curve. We develop a recipe to compute the proétale cohomology of such a local system using the Hyodo-Kato cohomology of the curve and the de Rham complex of the flat filtered bundle associated to the local system.

A Gelfand duality for continuous lattices

Abstract:We prove that the category of continuous lattices and meet- and directed join-preserving maps is dually equivalent, via the hom functor to $[0,1]$, to the category of complete Archimedean meet-semilattices equipped with a finite meet-preserving action of the monoid of continuous monotone maps of $[0,1]$ fixing $1$. We also prove an analogous duality for completely distributive lattices. Moreover, we prove that these are essentially the only well-behaved "sound classes of joins $\Phi$, dual to a class of meets" for which "$\Phi$-continuous lattice" and "$\Phi$-algebraic lattice" are different notions, thus for which a $2$-valued duality does not suffice.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a path connected, locally path connected and semilocally simply connected space; let $\tilde{X}$ be its universal cover. We discuss the existence and description of a Haar system on the fundamental groupoid $\Pi_1(X)$ of $X$. The existence of a Haar system on $\Pi_1(X)$ is justified when $X$ is a second countable, locally compact and Hausdorff. We provide equivalent criteria for the existence of the Haar system on a locally compact (locally Hausdorff) fundamental groupoid in terms of certain measures on $X$ and $\tilde{X}$. $\mathrm{C}^*(\Pi_1(X))$ is described using a result of Muhly, Renault and Williams. Finally, two formulae for the Haar system on $\Pi_1(X)$ in terms of measures on $X$ or $\tilde{X}$ are given.
