Abstract:Given a partial action of a topological group $G$ on a space $X$, we determine properties $\mathcal P$ which can be extended from $X$ to its globalization. We treat the cases when $\mathcal P$ is any of the following: Hausdorff, regular, metrizable, second countable and having invariant metric. Further, for a normal subgroup $H$ we introduce and study a partial action of $G/H$ on the orbit space $X/\!\sim,$ applications to invariant metrics and inverse limits are presented.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a compact Hausdorff space. In this work we translate partial actions of $X$ to partial actions on some hyperspaces determined by $X,$ this gives an endofunctor $2^{-}$ in the category of partial actions on compact Hausdorff spaces which generates a monad in this category. Moreover, structural relations between partial actions $\theta$ on $X$ and partial determined by $2^{\theta}$ are established.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce a new class of metric actions on separable (not necessarily connected) metric spaces called "Cauchy-indivisible" actions. This new class coincides with that of proper actions on locally compact metric spaces and, as examples show, it may be different in general. The concept of "Cauchy-indivisibility" follows a more general research direction proposal in which we investigate the impact of basic notions in substantial results, like the impact of local compactness and connectivity in the theory of proper transformation groups. In order to provide some basic theory for this new class of actions we embed a "Cauchy-indivisible" action of a group of isometries of a separable metric space in a proper action of a semigroup in the completion of the underlying space. We show that, in case this subgroup is a group, the original group has a "Weil completion" and vice versa. Finally, in order to establish further connections between "Cauchy-indivisible" actions on separable metric spaces and proper actions on locally compact metric spaces we investigate the relation between "Borel sections" for "Cauchy-indivisible" actions and "fundamental sets" for proper actions. Some open questions are added.

Abstract:It is proved that the infinitesimal generator A of a strongly continuous semigroup of Linear operators on a Hilbert space also generates a strongly continuous group if and only if the resolvent of -A, (lambda + A)(-1), is also a bounded function on some right-hand-side half plane of complex numbers, and converges strongly to zero as the real part of lambda tends to infinity. An application to a partial differential equation is given.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a compact metric space and $G$ a finitely generated group. Suppose $\phi:G\rightarrow {\rm Homeo}(X)$ is a continuous action. We show that if $\phi$ is both distal and expansive, then $X$ must be finite. A counterexample is constructed to show the necessity of finite generation condition on $G$. This is also a supplement to a result due to Auslander-Glasner-Weiss which says that every distal action by a finitely generated group on a zero-dimensional compactum is equicontinuous.

Abstract:<p>Given a directed family of topological groups, the finest topology on their union making each injection continuous need not be a group topology, because the multiplication may fail to be jointly continuous. This begs the question of when the union is a topological group with respect to this topology. If the family is countable, the answer is well known in most cases. We study this question in the context of so-called <em>long</em> families, which are as far as possible from countable ones. As a first step, we present answers to the question for families of group-valued continuous maps and homeomorphism groups, and provide additional examples.</p>

Non-Hausdorff germinal groupoids for actions of countable groups

Abstract:We study conditions under which the germinal groupoid associated to a minimal equicontinuous action of a countable group on a Cantor set has non-Hausdorff topology. We develop a new criterion, which serves as an obstruction for the étale topology on the groupoid to be non-Hausdorff. We use this and other criteria to study the topology of germinal groupoids for a few classes of actions. In particular, we give examples of families of contracting and non-contracting self-similar groups, which are amenable and whose actions have associated germinal groupoids with non-Hausdorff topology.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{F}(M)$ be the Lipschitz-free space of a pointed metric space $M$. For every isometric continuous group action of $G$ we have an induced continuous dual action on the weak-star compact unit ball $B_{\mathcal{F}(M)^*}$ of the dual space $\mathrm{Lip_0} (M)=\mathcal{F}(M)^*$. We pose the question when a given abstract continuous action of $G$ on a topological space $X$ can be represented through a $G$-subspace of $B_{\mathcal{F}(M)^*}$. One of such natural examples is the so-called metric compactification (of isometric $G$-spaces) for a pointed metric space. As well as the Gromov $G$-compactification of a bounded metric $G$-space. Note that there are sufficiently many representations of compact $G$-spaces on Lipschitz-free spaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we find necessary and sufficient conditions for countable fan tightness and countable strong fan tightness of the space (briefly, $C_{p}(X,G)$) of all group-valued continuous functions endowed with the topology of pointwise convergence in term of Menger property and Rothberger property respectively. Furthermore, we establish a relationship between countable fan tightness, the Reznichenko property and the Hurewicz property for the space $C_{p}(X,G)$. In addition to this we prove that the Menger property is preserve during $G$-equivalence of topological spaces. Through this paper, we establish a general result regarding fan tightness of $C_{p}(X,G)$ and Hurewicz number of the space $X^{n}$ for every natural number $n$. Finally, we study the monolithicity of the space $C_{p}(X,G)$.

Abstract:We extend the notions of topological stability, shadowing and persistence from homeomorphisms to finitely generated group actions on uniform spaces and prove that an expansive action with either shadowing or persistence is topologically stable. Using the concept of null set of a Borel measure $\mu$, we introduce the notions of $\mu$-expansivity, $\mu$-topological stability, $\mu$-shadowing and $\mu$-persistence for finitely generated group actions on uniform spaces and show that a $\mu$-expansive action with either $\mu$-shadowing or $\mu$-persistence is $\mu$-topologically stable.

Abstract:We lift the notion of quasicontinuous posets to the topology context, called quasicontinuous spaces, and further study such spaces. The main results are: (1) A T0 space (X, tau) is a quasicontinuous space if and only if SI(X) is locally hypercompact if and only if (tau SI, subset of) is a hypercontinuous lattice; (2) a T0 space X is an SI-continuous space if and only if X is a meet contin-uous and quasicontinuous space; (3) if a C-space X is a well-filtered poset under its specialization order, then X is a quasicontinuous space if and only if it is a quasicontinuous domain under the specialization order; (4) there exists an adjunction between the category of quasicontinuous do-mains and the category of quasicontinuous spaces which are well-filtered posets under their specialization orders.
Group topologies on groups of bi-absolutely continuous homeomorphisms

Abstract:The group of homeomorphisms of the closed interval that are orientation preserving, absolutely continuous and have an absolutely continuous inverse was shown by Solecki to admit a natural Polish group topology $\tau_{ac}$. We observe that, more generally, under some conditions on a compact space endowed with a finite Borel measure an analogous Polish group topology can be defined on the subgroup of the homeomorphism group which push forward the measure to another one with which it is mutually absolutely continuous. We use a probabilistic argument involving approximations by supmartingale processes to show that in many cases there is no group topology between $\tau_{ac}$ and the restriction $\tau_{co}$ of the compact-open topology. This applies, in particular, to any compact topological manifold equipped with an Oxtoby-Ulam measure and to the Cantor space endowed with some natural Borel measures. In fact, we show that in such cases any separable group topology strictly finer than $\tau_{co}$ has to be also finer than $\tau_{ac}$. For one-dimensional manifolds well-known arguments show that the compact-open topology is a minimum Hausdroff group topology on the group, which implies that $\tau_{co}$ and $\tau_{ac}$ are the only Hausdorff group topologies coarser than $\tau_{ac}$. We also show that while Solecki's example is not Roelcke precompact, the group of bi-absolutely continuous homeomorphisms of the Cantor space endowed with the measure given by the Fräissé limit of the class of measured boolean algebras with rational probability measures is Roelcke precompact.

Continuous operators from spaces of Lipschitz functions

Abstract:We study the existence of continuous (linear) operators from the Banach spaces $\mbox{Lip}_0(M)$ of Lipschitz functions on infinite metric spaces $M$ vanishing at a distinguished point and from their predual spaces $\mathcal{F}(M)$ onto certain Banach spaces, including $C(K)$-spaces and the spaces $c_0$ and $\ell_1$. For pairs of spaces $\mbox{Lip}_0(M)$ and $C(K)$ we prove that if they are endowed with topologies weaker than the norm topology, then usually no continuous (linear or not) surjection exists between those spaces. It is also showed that if a metric space $M$ contains a bilipschitz copy of the unit sphere $S_{c_0}$ of the space $c_0$, then $\mbox{Lip}_0(M)$ admits a continuous operator onto $\ell_1$ and hence onto $c_0$. Using this, we provide several conditions for a space $M$ implying that $\mbox{Lip}_0(M)$ is not a Grothendieck space. Finally, we obtain a new characterization of the Schur property for Lipschitz-free spaces: a space $\mathcal{F}(M)$ has the Schur property if and only if for every discrete metric space $N$ with cardinality $d(M)$ the spaces $\mathcal{F}(M)$ and $\mathcal{F}(N)$ are weakly sequentially homeomorphic.

A Halmos-von Neumann theorem for actions of general groups

Abstract:We give a new categorical approach to the Halmos-von Neumann theorem for actions of general topological groups. As a first step, we establish that the categories of topological and measure-preserving irreducible systems with discrete spectrum are equivalent. This allows to prove the Halmos-von Neumann theorem in the framework of topological dynamics. We then use the Pontryagin and Tannaka-Krein duality theories to obtain classification results for topological and then measure-preserving systems with discrete spectrum. As a byproduct, we obtain a complete isomorphism invariant for compactifications of a fixed topological group.

Abstract:Let (X, G) be a G-action topological system, where G is a countable infinite discrete amenable group and X a compact metric space. We prove a variational principle for topological entropy of saturated sets for systems which have the specification property and uniform separation property. We show that certain algebraic actions satisfy these two conditions. We give an application in multifractal analysis.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate some topological properties of partial metric spaces (in short PMS). We give some relationship between metric-like PMS, sequentially isosceles PMS and sequentially equilateral PMS. We also prove a type of Urysohn’s lemma for metric-like PMS. By applying the construction of Hartman–Mycielski, we show that every bounded PMS can be isometrically embedded into a pathwise connected and locally pathwise connected PMS. In the end, we show that a partial metric space is compact iff it is totally bounded and complete.
