Abstract:In this paper, we proved the Normal Scalar Curvature Conjecture and the Böttcher–Wenzel Conjecture. We developed a new Bochner formula and it becomes useful with the first conjecture we proved. Using the results, we established some new pinching theorems for minimal submanifolds in spheres.

Abstract:We prove that the skew Calabi-Yau property is preserved under normal extension for locally finite positively graded algebras. We also obtain a homological identity which describes the relationship between the Nakayama automorphisms of skew Calabi-Yau locally finite positively graded algebras and their normal extensions. As a preliminary, we show that the Nakayama automorphisms of skew Calabi-Yau algebras always send a regular normal element to a multiple of itself by a unit.

Abstract:In this article we first show that any finite cover of the moduli space of closed Riemann surfaces of genus $g$ with $g\geq 2$ does not admit any Riemannian metric $ds^2$ of nonnegative scalar curvature such that $ds^2 \succ ds_{T}^2$ where $ds_{T}^2$ is the Teichm\"uller metric. Our second result is the proof that any cover $M$ of the moduli space $\mathbb{M}_{g}$ of a closed Riemann surface $S_{g}$ does not admit any complete Riemannian metric of uniformly positive scalar curvature in the quasi-isometry class of the Teichm\"uller metric, which implies a conjecture of Farb-Weinberger.

Abstract:Using minimal hypersurfaces, we obtain topological obstructions to admitting complete metrics with positive scalar curvature on a given class of non-compact n-manifolds with n less than 8. We show that the Liouville theorem for a locally conformally flat n-manifold of non-negative scalar curvature follows from the impossibility of there being a positive scalar curvature metric on its connect sum with the n-torus. With the recent work of Chodosh-Li, the Liouville theorem is now proved in all remaining cases. Finally, using MOTS instead of minimal hypersurfaces, we show an Initial Data Set version of these results with the Dominant Energy Scalar appearing instead of positive scalar curvature.
Normal Scalar Curvature Inequality on a Class of Austere Submanifolds

Abstract:In this paper, we establish new normal scalar curvature inequalities on a class of austere submanifolds by proving sharper DDVV-type inequalities on associated austere subspaces. We also provide some examples of austere submanifolds in this class and point out one of them achieves the equality in our normal scalar curvature inequality everywhere. As a byproduct, we obtain a Simons-type gap theorem for closed austere submanifolds in unit spheres which belong to that class.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the interplay of geometry and positive scalar curvature on a complete, non-compact manifold with non-negative Ricci curvature. On three-dimensional manifold, we prove a minimal volume growth, an estimate of integral of scalar curvature and width. On higher-dimensional manifold, we obtain a volume growth with a stronger condition.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that, a compact complex manifold X admits a smooth Hermitian metric with positive (resp., negative) scalar curvature if and only if K-X (resp., K-X(-1)) is not pseudo-effective. On the contrary, we also show that on an arbitrary compact complex manifold X with complex dimension >= 2, there exist smooth Hermitian metrics with positive total scalar curvature, and one of the key ingredients in the proof relies on a recent solution to the Gauduchon conjecture by G. Szekelyhidi, V. Tosatti, and B. Weinkove.

Abstract:We show that the scalar curvature is uniformly bounded for the normalized Kahler-Ricci flow on a Kahler manifold with semi-ample canonical bundle. In particular, the normalized Kahler-Ricci flow has long time existence if and only if the scalar curvature is uniformly bounded, for Kahler surfaces, projective manifolds of complex dimension three, and for projective manifolds of all dimensions if assuming the abundance conjecture.

Abstract:International Journal of Mathematics, Ahead of Print. Let [math] be an [math]-dimensional oriented compact submanifold with constant normalized scalar curvature [math] in the space form [math]. Denote by [math] and [math] the mean curvature and the Ricci curvature of [math] respectively. By applying Cheng-Yau's self-adjoint operator, we first prove that if [math] is a hypersurface in a unit sphere, and [math], then [math] is totally umbilical. Furthermore, we investigate the submanifolds in [math] with flat normal bundle satisfying [math], and obtain a complete classification theorem.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate complete critical metrics of the $L^{2}$-norm of the scalar curvature. We prove that any complete critical metric with positive scalar curvature has constant scalar curvature and we characterize critical metrics with nonnegative scalar curvature in dimension three and four.

Abstract:In their seminal work (\cite{CC}, \cite{CC2}), Chen and Cheng proved apriori estimates for the constant scalar curvature metrics on compact Kähler manifolds. They also prove $C^{3,\alpha}$-estimate for the potential of the Kähler metrics under boundedness assumption on the scalar curvature and the entropy. The goal of this paper is to replace the uniform boundedness of the scalar curvature to the $L^p$-boundedness of the scalar curvature.

Abstract:A well-known conjecture of Caratheodory states that the number of umbilic points on a closed convex surface in ${\mathbb E}^3$ must be greater than one. In this paper we prove this for $C^{3+\alpha}$-smooth surfaces. The Conjecture is first reformulated in terms of complex points on a Lagrangian surface in $TS^2$, viewed as the space of oriented geodesics in ${\mathbb E}^3$. Here complex and Lagrangian refer to the canonical neutral Kaehler structure on $TS^2$. We then prove that the existence of a closed convex surface with only one umbilic point implies the existence of a totally real Lagrangian hemisphere in $TS^2$, to which it is not possible to attach the edge of a holomorphic disc. The main step in the proof is to establish the existence of a holomorphic disc with edge contained on any given totally real Lagrangian hemisphere. To construct the holomorphic disc we utilize mean curvature flow with respect to the neutral metric. Long-time existence of this flow is proven by a priori estimates and we show that the flowing disc is asymptotically holomorphic. Existence of a holomorphic disc is then deduced from Schauder estimates.

Abstract:We prove for $n\in\{3,4,5\}$ that the connected sum of a closed aspherical $n$-manifold with an arbitrary non-compact manifold does not admit a complete metric with nonnegative scalar curvature. In particular, a special case of our result answers a question of Gromov. More generally, we generalize the partial classification result of Chodosh, Li, and Liokumovich to the non-compact domination case with our newly-developed technique. Our result unifies all previous results of this type, and confirms the validity of Gromov's non-compact domination conjecture for closed aspherical manifolds of dimensions 3, 4, and 5.
