Abstract:In this paper, we study the rigidity problem on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with constant k-curvature or constant quotient curvature. We prove that such manifolds must have constant sectional curvature under the assumption that the manifolds have positive sectional curvature. The same result is also held on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with totally geodesic boundary.

Abstract:We establish a relationship between a certain notion of covering complexity of a Riemannian spin manifold and positive lower bounds on its scalar curvature. This makes use of a pairing between quantitative operator $K$-theory and Lipschitz topological $K$-theory, combined with an earlier vanishing theorem for the quantitative higher index.

Abstract:In this article we first show that any finite cover of the moduli space of closed Riemann surfaces of genus $g$ with $g\geq 2$ does not admit any Riemannian metric $ds^2$ of nonnegative scalar curvature such that $ds^2 \succ ds_{T}^2$ where $ds_{T}^2$ is the Teichm\"uller metric. Our second result is the proof that any cover $M$ of the moduli space $\mathbb{M}_{g}$ of a closed Riemann surface $S_{g}$ does not admit any complete Riemannian metric of uniformly positive scalar curvature in the quasi-isometry class of the Teichm\"uller metric, which implies a conjecture of Farb-Weinberger.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the geometry of the moduli space of curves by using the curvature properties of direct image sheaves of vector bundles. We show that the moduli space $(M_g, \omega_{WP})$ of curves with genus $g>1$ has dual-Nakano negative and semi-Nakano-negative curvature, and in particular, it has non-positive Riemannain curvature operator and also non-positive complex sectional curvature. As applications, we prove that any submanifold in $M_g$ which is totally geodesic in $A_g$ with finite volume must be a ball quotient. We also show that, on a Kodaira (deformation) surface, there is no K\"ahler metric with non-positive Riemannain sectional curvature although it possesses K\"ahler metrics with strictly negative holomorphic bisectional curvature.

Abstract:We extend our family rigidity and vanishing theorems in [LiuMaZ] to the Spin c case.In particular, we prove a ^-theory version of the main results of [H], [Liul, Theorem B] for a family of almost complex manifolds.0. Introduction.Let M, B be two compact smooth manifolds, and TT : M -» B be a smooth fibration with compact fibre X.Let TX be the relative tangent bundle.Assume that a compact Lie group G acts fiberwise on M, that is, the action preserves each fiber of TT.Let P be a family of G-equivariant elliptic operators along the fiber X.Then the family index of P, Ind(P), is a well-defined element in K(B) (cf.[AS]) and is a virtual G-representation (cf.[LiuMal]).We denote by (Ind(P)) G £ K(B) the G-invariant part of Ind(P).A family of elliptic operator P is said to be rigid on the equivariant Chern character level with respect to this G-action, if the equivariant Chern character ch 5 (Ind(P)) G H*(B) is independent of g G G. Abstract:In the first part of this paper, we prove the extensibility of an arbitrary boundary metric to a positive scalar curvature (PSC) metric inside for a compact manifold with boundary, completely solving an open problem due to Gromov (see Question 1.1). Then we introduce a fill-in invariant (see Definition 1.2) and discuss its relationship with the positive mass theorems for asymptotically flat (AF) and asymptotically hyperbolic (AH) manifolds. Moreover, we prove that the positive mass theorem for All manifolds implies that for AF manifolds via this fill-in invariant. In the end, we give some estimates for the fill-in invariant, which provide some partially affirmative answers to Gromov's two conjectures formulated in [M. Gromov, Four lectures on scalar curvature, preprint 2019] (see Conjecture 1.1 and Conjecture 1.2 below).
Rigidity of spin fill-ins with non-negative scalar curvature

Abstract:We establish new mean curvature rigidity theorems of spin fill-ins with non-negative scalar curvature using two different spinorial techniques. Our results address two questions by Miao and Gromov, respectively. The first technique is based on extending boundary spinors satisfying a generalized eigenvalue equation via the Fredholm alternative for an APS boundary value problem, while the second is a comparison result in the spirit of Llarull and Lott using index theory. We also show that the latter implies a new Witten-type integral inequality for the mass of an asymptotically Schwarzschild manifold which holds even when the scalar curvature is not assumed to be non-negative.

On three-dimensional manifold, we prove a minimal volume growth, an estimate of integral of scalar curvature and width. On higher-dimensional manifold, we obtain a volume growth with a stronger condition.

Abstract:A (compact) manifold with fibered $P$-singularities is a (possibly) singular pseudomanifold $M_\Sigma$ with two strata: an open nonsingular stratum $\mathring M$ (a smooth open manifold) and a closed stratum $\beta M$ (a closed manifold of positive codimension), such that a tubular neighborhood of $\beta M$ is a fiber bundle with fibers each looking like the cone on a fixed closed manifold $P$. We discuss what it means for such an $M_{\Sigma}$ with fibered $P$-singularities to admit an appropriate Riemannian metric of positive scalar curvature, and we give necessary and sufficient conditions (the necessary conditions based on suitable versions of index theory, the sufficient conditions based on surgery methods and homotopy theory) for this to happen when the singularity type $P$ is either $\mathbb Z/k$ or $S^1$, and $M$ and the boundary of the tubular neighborhood of the singular stratum are simply connected and carry spin structures. Along the way, we prove some results of perhaps independent interest, concerning metrics on spin$^c$ manifolds with positive "twisted scalar curvature," where the twisting comes from the curvature of the spin$^c$ line bundle.

Bounding the A-hat genus using scalar curvature lower bounds and isoperimetric constants

Abstract:In this paper, we prove an upper bound on the $\widehat{A}$ genus of a smooth, closed, spin Riemannian manifold using its scalar curvature lower bound, Neumann isoperimetric constant, and volume. The proof of this result relies on spectral analysis of the Dirac operator. We also construct an example to show that the Neumann isoperimetric constant in this bound is necessary. Our result partially answers a question of Gromov on bounding characteristic numbers using scalar curvature lower bound.

Complete Kähler manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature

Abstract:We consider complete Kähler manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. The main results are: 1. When the manifold has nonnegative bisectional curvature, we show that $\lim\limits_{r\to\infty}\frac{r^{2}}{vol(B(p, r))}\int_{B(p, r)}S$ exists. In other words, it depends only on the manifold. This solves a question of Ni. Also, we establish estimates among volume growth ratio, integral of scalar curvature, and the degree of polynomial growth holomorphic functions. The new point is that the estimates are sharp for any prescribed volume growth rate. 2. We discover a strong rigidity for complete Ricci flat Kähler metrics. Let $M^n (n\geq 2)$ be a complete Kähler manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature and Euclidean volume growth. Assume either the curvature has quadratic decay, or the Kähler metric is $dd^c$-exact with quadratic decay of scalar curvature. If one tangent cone at infinity is Ricci flat, then $M$ is Ricci flat. In particular, the tangent cone is unique. In other words, we can test Ricci flatness of the manifold by checking one single tangent cone. This seems unexpected, since apriori, there is no equation on $M$ and the Bishop-Gromov volume comparison is not sharp on Ricci flat (nonflat) manifolds. Such result is in sharp contrast to the Riemannian setting: Colding and Naber showed that tangent cones are quite flexible when $Ric\geq 0$ and $|Rm|r^2<C$. This reveals subtle differences between Riemannian case and Kähler case. The result contains lots of examples, such as all noncompact Ricci flat Kähler surfaces of Euclidean volume growth (hyper-Kähler ALE 4-manifolds classified by Kronheimer), higher dimensional examples of Tian-Yau type, as well as an example with irregular cross section. It also covers Ricci flat Kähler metrics of Euclidean volume growth on Stein manifolds with $b_2 = 0$(e.g., $\mathbb{C}^n$).

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that, a compact complex manifold X admits a smooth Hermitian metric with positive (resp., negative) scalar curvature if and only if K-X (resp., K-X(-1)) is not pseudo-effective. On the contrary, we also show that on an arbitrary compact complex manifold X with complex dimension >= 2, there exist smooth Hermitian metrics with positive total scalar curvature, and one of the key ingredients in the proof relies on a recent solution to the Gauduchon conjecture by G. Szekelyhidi, V. Tosatti, and B. Weinkove.

Abstract:Let (X, g) be a compact Riemannian manifold with quasi-positive Riemannian scalar curvature. If there exists a complex structure J compatible with g, then the Kodaira dimension of (X, J) is equal to $$-\infty $$ and the canonical bundle $$K_X$$ is not pseudo-effective. Abstract:A recent theorem of Diverio–Trapani and Wu–Yau asserts that a compact Kähler manifold with a Kähler metric of quasi-negative holomorphic sectional curvature is projective and canonically polarized. This confirms a long-standing conjecture of Yau. We consider the notion of –quasi-negativity, generalizing quasi-negativity, and obtain gap-type theorems for in terms of the real bisectional curvature and weighted orthogonal Ricci curvature. These theorems are also a generalization of that results by Zhang-Zheng (arXiv:2010.01314v4 ) and Chu-Lee-Tam (Trans Am Math Soc 375(11):7925–7944, 2022).

On Kähler manifolds with non-negative mixed curvature

Abstract:In this work, we investigate compact Kähler manifolds with non-negative or quasi-positive mixed curvature coming from a linear combination of the Ricci and holomorphic sectional curvature, which covers various notions of curvature considered in the literature. Specifically, we prove a splitting theorem, analogous to the Cheeger-Gromoll splitting theorem, for complete Kähler manifolds with non-negative mixed curvature containing a line, and then establish a structure theorem for compact Kähler manifolds with non-negative mixed curvature. We also show that the Hodge numbers of compact Kähler manifolds with quasi-positive mixed curvature must vanish. Both results are based on the conformal perturbation method.

Abstract:Based on the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index formula, we construct an obstruction to positive scalar curvature metrics with mean convex boundaries on spin manifolds of infinite K-area. We also characterize the extremal case. Next we show a general deformation principle for boundary conditions of metrics with lower scalar curvature bounds. This implies that the relaxation of boundary conditions often induces weak homotopy equivalences of spaces of such metrics. This can be used to refine the smoothing of codimension-one singularites a la Miao and the deformation of boundary conditions a la Brendle-Marques-Neves, among others. Finally, we construct compact manifolds for which the spaces of positive scalar curvature metrics with mean convex boundaries have nontrivial higher homotopy groups.

Abstract:We show that the scalar curvature is uniformly bounded for the normalized Kahler-Ricci flow on a Kahler manifold with semi-ample canonical bundle. In particular, the normalized Kahler-Ricci flow has long time existence if and only if the scalar curvature is uniformly bounded, for Kahler surfaces, projective manifolds of complex dimension three, and for projective manifolds of all dimensions if assuming the abundance conjecture.

Abstract:Given a constant C and a smooth closed $(n-1)$-dimensional Riemannian manifold $(\Sigma, g)$ equipped with a positive function $H$, a natural question to ask is whether this manifold can be realised as the boundary of a smooth $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifold with scalar curvature bounded below by C. That is, does there exist a fill-in of $(\Sigma,g,H)$ with scalar curvature bounded below by C? We use variations of an argument due to Miao and the author [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1701.04805" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1701.04805">arXiv:1701.04805</a>] to explicitly construct fill-ins with different scalar curvature lower bounds, where we permit the fill-in to contain another boundary component provided it is a minimal surface. Our main focus is to illustrate the applications of such fill-ins to geometric inequalities in the context of general relativity. By filling in a manifold beyond a boundary, one is able to obtain lower bounds on the mass in terms of the boundary geometry through positive mass theorems and Penrose inequalities. We consider fill-ins with both positive and negative scalar curvature lower bounds, which from the perspective of general relativity corresponds to the sign of the cosmological constant, as well as a fill-in suitable for the inclusion of electric charge.
