Abstract:In this paper, we prove that any parameter ray at a non-recurrent angle $\theta$ lands at a non-recurrent parameter $c$ with $\theta$ a characteristic angle of $f_c$; and conversely, every non-recurrent parameter $c$ is the landing point of one or two parameter rays at non-recurrent angles, and these angles are exactly the characteristic angles of $f_c$.

Abstract:The aim of this work is to describe the equivalence relations in $\Q/\Z$ that arise as the rational lamination of polynomials with all cycles repelling. We also describe where in parameter space one can find a polynomial with all cycles repelling and a given rational lamination. At the same time we derive some consequences that this study has regarding the topology of Julia sets.

Abstract:Abstract The Douady-Hubbard landing theorem for periodic external rays is one of the cornerstones of the study of polynomial dynamics. It states that, for a complex polynomial f with bounded postcritical set, every periodic external ray lands at a repelling or parabolic periodic point, and conversely every repelling or parabolic point is the landing point of at least one periodic external ray. We prove an analogue of this theorem for an entire function f with bounded postsingular set. If f has finite order of growth, then it is known that the escaping set I ( f ) contains certain curves called periodic hairs ; we show that every periodic hair lands at a repelling or parabolic periodic point, and conversely every repelling or parabolic periodic point is the landing point of at least one periodic hair. For a postsingularly bounded entire function f of infinite order, such hairs may not exist. Therefore we introduce certain dynamically natural connected subsets of I ( f ), called dreadlocks . We show that every periodic dreadlock lands at a repelling or parabolic periodic point, and conversely every repelling or parabolic periodic point is the landing point of at least one periodic dreadlock. More generally, we prove that every point of a hyperbolic set is the landing point of a dreadlock.

Abstract:We discuss a class of p-Laplacian-type fractional four-point boundary-value problems with a parameter. We use the Green's function, the Schauder fixed-point theorem and the Guo-Krasnoselskii fixed-point theorem on cones. Abstract:It follows from the classical argument principle that if a holomorphic mapping f from the unit disc Δ to C or, more generally, to Cn, smooth in the closed disc, is homologically trivial on the unit circle (i.e. H1(γ)=0, γ=f(S1), which is equivalent to either γ being a point or ∂γ≠∅), then f=const, i.e. the image of the unit disc degenerates to a point. We establish a parametric version of this fact, for a variety of holomorphic mappings from Δ to Cn in place of a single mapping. We find conditions for a holomorphic mapping of the unit disc, depending on additional real parameters, under which homological triviality of the boundary image implies collapse of the dimension of the image of the interior. As an application, we obtain estimates of dimensions of complex tangent bundles of real submanifolds in Cn, in terms of zero moment conditions on families of closed curves covering the manifold. Applying this result to the graphs of functions, we obtain solution of several known problems about characterization of holomorphic CR functions in terms of moment conditions on families of curves.

Limit theorems for critical faces above the vanishing threshold

Abstract:We investigate convergence of point processes associated with critical faces for a Čech filtration built over a homogeneous Poisson point process in the $d$-dimensional flat torus. The convergence of our point process is established in terms of the $\mathcal M_0$-topology, when the connecting radius of a Čech complex decays to $0$, so slowly that critical faces are even less likely to occur than those in the regime of threshold for homological connectivity. We also obtain a series of limit theorems for positive and negative critical faces, all of which are considerably analogous to those for critical faces.

On Picard's Theorem via Nevanlinna Theory

Abstract:We consider the Picard's problem via Nevanlinna theory for complete Kähler manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature. When the manifold is non-parabolic, which means that it carries a positive global Green function, we give a positive answer to the Picard's problem. That is, we confirm that every meromorphic function on such a (non-compact) manifold reduces to a constant if it omits three distinct values.

Abstract:We extend the work of Bielefeld, Fisher and Hubbard on Critical Portraits to the case of arbitrary postcritically finite polynomials. This determines an effective classification of postcritically finite polynomials as dynamical systems. This paper is the first in a series of two based on the author's thesis, which deals with the classification of postcritically finite polynomials. In this first part we conclude the study of critical portraits initiated by Fisher and continued by Bielefeld, Fisher and Hubbard.

Abstract:We prove that any finite energy geodesic ray with a finite Mabuchi slope is maximal in the sense of Berman-Boucksom-Jonsson, and reduce the proof of the uniform Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture for constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics to Boucksom-Jonsson's regularization conjecture about the convergence of non-Archimedean entropy functional. As further applications, we show that a uniform K-stability condition for model filtrations and the $\mathcal{J}^{K_X}$-stability are both sufficient conditions for the existence of cscK metrics. The first condition is also conjectured to be necessary. Our arguments also produce a different proof of the toric uniform version of YTD conjecture for all polarized toric manifolds. Another result proved here is that the Mabuchi slope of a geodesic ray associated to a test configuration is equal to the non-Archimedean Mabuchi invariant.

Abstract:We construct a smooth projective algebraic variety $X_{\Psi}$ that compactifies an equivariant vector subbundle of the cotangent bundle of the flag variety of $\mathop{GL} ( n )$ (corresponding to a root ideal $\Psi$). The variety $X_\Psi$ carries natural class of line bundles whose spaces of global sections realize the Catalan functions defined in Chen-Haiman [thesis, UCBerkeley] and studied in Blasiak-Morse-Pun-Summers [J. Amer. Math. Soc. (2019), Invent. Math. (2024)]. We prove the vanishing conjectures of Chen-Haiman and (the tame cases of these of) Blasiak-Morse-Pun, as well as the monotonicity conjectures of Shimozono-Weyman [Electronic J. Combin. (2000)] using the geometry of $X_\Psi$.

Abstract:Analytic combinatorics in several variables (ACSV) analyzes the asymptotic growth of the coefficients of a meromorphic generating function $F = G/H$ in a direction $\mathbf{r}$. It uses Morse theory on the pole variety $V := \{ H = 0 \} \subseteq (\mathbb{C}^*)^d$ of $F$ to deform the torus $T$ in the multivariate Cauchy Integral Formula via the downward gradient flow for the \textit{height} function $h = h_{\mathbf{r}} = -\sum_{j=1}^d r_j \log |z_j|$, giving a homology decomposition of $T$ into cycles around \textit{critical points} of $h$ on $V$. The deformation can flow to infinity at finite height when the height function is not a proper map. This happens only in the presence of a critical point at infinity (CPAI): a sequence of points on $V$ approaching a point at infinity, and such that log-normals to $V$ converge projectively to $\mathbf{r}$. The CPAI is called \textit{heighted} if the height function also converges to a finite value. This paper studies whether all CPAI are heighted, and in which directions CPAI can occur. We study these questions by examining sequences converging to faces of a toric compactification defined by a multiple of the Newton polytope $\mathcal{P}$ of the polynomial $H$. Under generically satisfied conditions, any projective limit of log-normals of a sequence converging to a face $F$ must be parallel to $F$; this implies that CPAI must always be heighted and can only occur in directions parallel to some face of $\mathcal{P}$. When this generic condition fails, we show under a smoothness condition, that a point in a codimension-1 face $F$ can still only be a CPAI for directions parallel to $F$, and that the directions for a codimension-2 face can be a larger set, which can be computed explicitly and still has positive codimension.

Abstract:We study algebraic relations among postcritically finite (PCF) parameters in the family $f_c(z) = z^2 + c$. Ghioca, Krieger, Nguyen and Ye proved that an algebraic curve in $\mathbb{C}^2$ contains infinitely many PCF pairs $(c_1, c_2)$ if and only if the curve is special (i.e., the curve is a vertical or horizontal line through a PCF parameter, or the curve is the diagonal). Here we extend this result to subvarieties of $\mathbb{C}^n$ for any $n\geq 2$. Consequently, we obtain uniform bounds on the number of PCF pairs on non-special curves in $\mathbb{C}^2$ and the number of PCF parameters in real algebraic curves in $\mathbb{C}$, depending only on the degree of the curve. We also compute the optimal bound for the general curve of degree $d$.

Abstract:Dynamics research of recurrent neural networks is very meaningful in both theoretical importance and practical significance. Recently, the study on the critical dynamics behaviors of such networks has drawn especial attention because of its application requirements. In this paper, new criteria are found to ascertain the global convergence and asymptotic stability of recurrent neural networks under the generally P-critical conditions, i.e., a discriminant matrix M(L,@C)+P is nonnegative definite, where M(L,@C) is a matrix related with the network and P is an arbitrary nonnegative definite matrix. The analysis results given in this paper improve substantially upon the existing relevant convergence and stability results in literature, including both the non-critical conclusions, i.e., the dynamics analysis under the conditions that M(L,@C) is positive definite, and the special critical discuss when M(L,@C) is nonnegative definite.

Abstract:Graph coverings are known to induce surjections of their critical groups. Here we describe the kernels of these morphisms in terms of data parametrizing the covering. Regular coverings are parametrized by voltage graphs, and the above kernel can be identified with a naturally defined voltage graph critical group. For double covers, the voltage graph is a signed graph, and the theory takes a particularly pleasant form, leading also to a theory of double covers of signed graphs.

Abstract:We study the curvature of metric spaces and branched covers of Riemannian manifolds, with applications in topology and algebraic geometry. Here curvature bounds are expressed in terms of the CAT(k) inequality. We prove a general CAT(k) extension theorem, giving sufficient conditions on and near the boundary of a locally CAT(k) metric space for the completion to be CAT(k). We use this to prove that a branched cover of a complete Riemannian manifold is locally CAT(k) if and only if all tangent spaces are CAT(0) and the base has sectional curvature bounded above by k. We also show that the branched cover is a geodesic space. Using our curvature bound and a local asphericity assumption we give a sufficient condition for the branched cover to be globally CAT(k) and the complement of the branch locus to be contractible. We conjecture that the universal branched cover of complex Euclidean n-space over the mirrors of a finite Coxeter group is CAT(0). Conditionally on this conjecture, we use our machinery to prove the Arnol'd-Pham-Thom conjecture on K(pi,1) spaces for Artin groups. Also conditionally, we prove the asphericity of moduli spaces of amply lattice-polarized K3 surfaces and of the discriminant complements of all the unimodal hypersurface singularities in Arnol'd's hierarchy.

Abstract:The mirror dual of a smooth toric Fano surface $X$ equipped with an anticanonical divisor $E$ is a Landau-Ginzburg model with superpotential, W. Carl-Pumperla-Siebert give a definition of the the superpotential in terms of tropical disks using a toric degeneration of the pair $(X,E)$. When $E$ is smooth, the superpotential is proper. We show that this proper superpotential equals the open mirror map for outer Aganagic-Vafa branes in the canonical bundle $K_X$, in framing zero. As a consequence, the proper Landau-Ginzburg potential is a solution to the Lerche-Mayr Picard-Fuchs equation. Along the way, we prove a generalization of a result about relative Gromov-Witten invariants by Cadman-Chen to arbitrary genus using the multiplication rule of quantum theta functions. In addition, we generalize a theorem of Hu that relates Gromov-Witten invariants of a surface under a blow-up from the absolute to the relative case. One of the two proofs that we give introduces birational modifications of a scattering diagram. We also demonstrate how the Hori-Vafa superpotential is related to the proper superpotential by mutations from a toric chamber to the unbounded chamber of the scattering diagram.

Abstract:In this article, the trajectories of meromorphic quadratic differentials whose coefficients are Schwarzian derivatives of rational maps are studied. We conjecture that the graphs consisting of the so-called negative-real critical Schwarzian trajectories are finite for all rational maps of degree at least two. For any given rational map f, we construct a family of parabolic rational maps {g(w)}(w) having a parabolic fixed point at the non-critical point w of f. If w is a zero of the Schwarzian S-f, we prove that the orientations of the negative-real critical trajectories of S-f(z)dz(2) landing at w coincide with the attracting directions of g(w) at w. The critical curve in every immediate parabolic basin of w is an arc starting at w along the attracting direction and ending at a critical point of f, which is a pole of S-f. We conduct some numerical experiments to compare the critical curves in the immediate parabolic basins with the negative-real critical Schwarzian trajectories, which support our conjecture.
