Abstract:We state a multi-parameter cinematic curvature condition, and prove $L^p$ bounds for related maximal operators. In particular, we verify a local smoothing conjecture of Zahl.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### Problems the Paper Attempts to Solve The main purpose of this paper is to generalize and study the cinematic curvature conditions in the multi-parameter case and to prove the boundedness of the associated maximal operator in the $L^p(\mathbb{R}^2)$ space. Specifically: 1. **Generalizing the Cinematic Curvature Condition**: - The authors extend the single-parameter cinematic curvature condition to the multi-parameter case and introduce a new definition (Equation (1.10)) to describe the non-degeneracy in this multi-parameter context. 2. **Proving the Boundedness of the Maximal Operator**: - By introducing the multi-parameter cinematic curvature condition, they prove the boundedness of the maximal operator $M_{\gamma,\chi}$ in the $L^p(\mathbb{R}^2)$ space (Theorem 1.1), i.e., there exists some $p_d > 0$ such that for all $p > p_d$ and for smooth cutoff functions $\chi$ satisfying certain conditions, we have \[ \|M_{\gamma,\chi} f\|_{L^p(\mathbb{R}^2)} \lesssim_{p,\gamma,\chi} \|f\|_{L^p(\mathbb{R}^2)}. \] 3. **Study of the Elliptic Maximal Operator**: - In the two-parameter case, combining the work of Pramanik, Yang, and Zahl, they prove that the maximal operator along ellipses $M_{ellipse}$ is bounded in $L^p(\mathbb{R}^2)$ for $p > 3$ (Corollary 1.2). 4. **Study of the Variable Coefficient Maximal Operator**: - They further generalize the above results by considering the maximal operator with variable coefficients and prove similar results (Theorem 1.5). In summary, this paper aims to generalize and study the cinematic curvature conditions in the multi-parameter case and, on this basis, prove a series of boundedness results for maximal operators in the $L^p(\mathbb{R}^2)$ space.
