Abstract:Bruns and Roddy constructed a $3$-generated modular ortholattice $L$ which cannot be embedded into any complete modular ortholattice. Motivated by their approach, we use shift operators to construct a $*$-regular $*$-ring $R$ of endomorphisms of an inner product space (which can be chosen as the Hilbert space $\ell^2$) such that direct finiteness fails for $R$.

Abstract:For every partially ordered sets I, having a finite cofinal subset, and every field K we build a unital, locally matricial and hence unit-regular K-algebra B(I) such that the lattice of all its ideals is order isomorphic to the lattice of all lower subsets of I. We show that the Grothendieck group of B(I), with its natural partial order, is order isomorphic to the restricted Hahn power of Z by I; this gives a contribution to solve the Realization Problem for Dimension Groups with order-unit. Finally we show that the algebra B(I) has the following features: (a) B(I) is prime if and only if I is lower directed; (b) B(I) is primitive if and only if I has a coinitial chain; (c) B(I) is semiartinian if and only if I is artinian, in which the case I is order isomorphic to the primitive spectrum of B(I).

Strongly convergent unitary representations of right-angled Artin groups

Abstract:We prove using a novel random matrix model that all right-angled Artin groups have a sequence of finite dimensional unitary representations that strongly converge to the regular representation. We deduce that this result applies also to: the fundamental group of a closed hyperbolic manifold that is either three dimensional or standard arithmetic type, any Coxeter group, and any word-hyperbolic cubulated group. One strong consequence of these results is that any closed hyperbolic three-manifold has a sequence of finite dimensional flat Hermitian vector bundles with bottom of the spectrum of the Laplacian asymptotically at least 1.

Abstract:In this paper, the author studies the regularity of Munn rings and completely 0-simple semigroup rings. When either (i)R is a ring with identity andI and Λ are infinite, or (ii)R is a strong IBN and fully Dedekind-finite ring with identity and eitherI or Λ is finite, in Section 2, the regularity of the Munn ringM(R; I, Λ; P) is characterized; in Section 3, for a completely 0-simple semigroupS =M°(G; I, Λ; P), the regularity ofRS is characterized. Meantime, the author shows that for a locally finite monoidS and a ringR with identity,RS is a strong IBN ring if and only ifR is so;RS is fully Dedekind-finite if and only ifR is so.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity and $S$ a multiplicative subset of $R$. An $R$-module $M$ is said to be a uniformly $S$-Artinian ($u$-$S$-Artinian for abbreviation) module if there is $s\in S$ such that any descending chain of submodules of $M$ is $S$-stationary with respect to $s$. $u$-$S$-Artinian modules are characterized in terms of ($S$-MIN)-conditions and $u$-$S$-cofinite properties. We call a ring $R$ is a $u$-$S$-Artinian ring if $R$ itself is a $u$-$S$-Artinian module, and then show that any $u$-$S$-semisimple ring is $u$-$S$-Artinian. It is proved that a ring $R$ is $u$-$S$-Artinian if and only if $R$ is $u$-$S$-Noetherian, the $u$-$S$-Jacobson radical ${\rm Jac}_S(R)$ of $R$ is $S$-nilpotent and $R/{\rm Jac}_S(R)$ is a $u$-$S/{\rm Jac}_S(R)$-semisimple ring. Besides, some examples are given to distinguish Artinian rings, $u$-$S$-Artinian rings and $S$-Artinian rings.

Abstract:We study finiteness conditions on large tilting modules over arbitrary rings. We then turn to a hereditary artin algebra R and apply our results to the (infinite dimensional) tilting module L that generates all modules without preprojective direct summands. We show that the behaviour of L over its endomorphism ring determines the representation type of R. A similar result holds true for the (infinite dimensional) tilting module W that generates the divisible modules. Finally, we extend to the wild case some results on Baer modules and torsion-free modules proven in [AHT] for tame hereditary algebras.

Archimedean Representation Theorem for modules over a commutative ring

Abstract:Pólya's Positivstellensatz and Handelman's Positivstellensatz are known to be concrete instances of the abstract Archimedean Representation Theorem for (commutative unital) rings. We generalise the Archimedean Representation Theorem to modules over rings. For example, consider the module of all symmetric matrices with entries in a polynomial ring, also known as matrix polynomials. Pólya's Positivstellensatz and Handelman's Positivstellensatz had been generalised by Scherer and Hol, and Lê and Du' respectively to matrix polynomials, using the method of effective estimates from analysis. We show that these two Positivstellensätze for matrix polynomials are concrete instances of our Archimedean Representation Theorem in the case of the module of symmetric matrix polynomials over the polynomial ring.

On modular representations of inner forms of $\mathrm{GL}_n$ over a local non-archimedean field

Abstract:Let $\mathrm{F}$ be a local non-archimedean field of residue characteristic $p$ and $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_\ell$ an algebraic closure of a finite field of characteristic $\ell \neq p$. We extend the results of Lapid and Mínguez concerning $\square$-irreducible representations of inner forms of $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathrm{F})$ to representations over $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_\ell$. As applications, we compute the Godement-Jacquet $L$-factor for any smooth irreducible representation over $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_\ell$ and show that the local factors of a representation agree with the ones of its $\mathrm{C}$-parameter defined by Kurinczuk and Matringe. Moreover, we reprove that the classification of irreducible representations via multisegments due to Vignéras and Mínguez-Sécherre is indeed exhaustive without using the classification of Ariki and Mathas of simple modules of Hecke algebras. Finally, we characterize the irreducible constituents of certain parabolically induced representations, as was already done by Zelevinsky over $\mathbb{C}$.

Berberian has given a partial solution to this problem. Khairnar and Waphare raised a similar problem for p.q.-Baer $*$-rings and gave a partial solution. Abstract:A classical problem in real geometry concerns the representation of positive semidefinite elements of a ring $A$ as sums of squares of elements of $A$. If $A$ is an excellent ring of dimension $\geq3$, it is already known that it contains positive semidefinite elements that cannot be represented as sums of squares in $A$. The one dimensional local case has been afforded by Scheiderer (mainly when its residue field is real closed). In this work we focus on the $2$-dimensional case and determine (under some mild conditions) which local excellent henselian rings $A$ of embedding dimension $3$ have the property that every positive semidefinite element of $A$ is a sum of squares of elements of $A$.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that R is a two-sided Artinian ring and J is a right annihilator ideal if and only if (i) for any nonzero right module, there is a nonzero linear map from it to a projective module; (ii) every submodule of R R is not a radical module for some right coherent rings. We call a ring a right X ring if Hom R ( M, R ) = 0 for any right module M implies that M = 0. We can prove some left Goldie and right X rings are right Artinian rings. Moreover we characterize semisimple rings by using X rings. A famous Faith’s conjecture is whether a semipimary PF ring is a QF ring. Similarly we study the relationship between X rings and QF and get many interesting results.

Abstract:We study rings whose modules and module homomorphisms display behavior similar to that of sets and their maps. For example, whenever there is an epimorphism A→B , there is a monomorphism B→A (Artinian principal ideal rings (PIR) satisfy this property and its dual for all modules). As a byproduct of this framework, we prove that a ring every factor ring of which cogenerates its cyclic right modules (one-sided version of Kaplansky's dual rings) is right Artinian and right serial. Consequently, R is an Artinian PIR if and only if every factor ring of R cogenerates its finitely generated right modules. These results can be viewed as partial answers to the CF problem, the FGF problem due to Faith and a question of Faith and Menal on strongly Johns rings. Some known results and the above one yield the following: A ring R is a direct sum of right Artinian right chain rings and Artinian PIR's if and only if every factor ring of R cogenerates its (uniform) cyclic right modules (with nonzero socle); so, such rings coincide with the right CES-rings of Jain and Lopez-Pérmouth, rings whose factors are right CF and rings that satisfy the above mentioned property for their cyclic right modules A and B . Finally, a ring is either simple Artinian or a right Artinian right chain ring if and only if one of any two cyclic right modules embeds in the other.

Lattices in rigid analytic representations

Abstract:For a profinite group $G$ and a rigid analytic space $X$, we study when an $\mathcal O_X(X)$-linear representation $V$ of $G$ admits a lattice, i.e. an $\mathcal O_{\mathcal X}(\mathcal X)$-linear model for a suitable formal model $\mathcal X$ of $X$ in the sense of Berthelot. We give a positive answer, under mild assumptions, when $X$ is a ``wide open'' space. As a consequence, we are able to describe explicit open rational subdomains of $X$ over which $V$ is constant after reduction modulo a power of $p$. We give applications in two different directions. First, we prove explicit results on the reduction modulo powers of $p$ of sheaves of crystalline and semistable representations of fixed weight. Second, we focus on the sheaves of Galois representations on eigenvarieties, which are important examples of wide open spaces thanks to a result of Bellaïche and Chenevier. We give an application of our main results to the pseudorepresentation carried by the Coleman--Mazur eigencurve, which can be made explicit whenever equations for a rational subdomain of the eigencurve are given.
