Abstract:In this note, we introduce a very crude but natural notion of measure on the class of left R-modules over a ring R. We use this notion to give short proofs of some classical theorems on (left) Artinian rings and modules, due to Akizuki, Anderson, Hopkins, and Levitzki, as well as of some new results.

Abstract:The author was recently able to provide a cohomological interpretation of Tate's Riemann-Roch formula for number fields using some new harmonic analysis objects, ghost-spaces. When trying to investigate these objects in general, we realized the importance of functions and measures on locally compact abelian groups that are both positive and positive-definite at the same time. It looks like this class of functions and measures was not systematically studied before. The goal of this paper is to partially fill in this gap. We answer some of the natural questions involving these functions and measures, especially those that satisfy some extra integrability conditions. We also study some operations and constructions involving these functions and measures. There are several very interesting open questions, that we are only able to point out at this moment. In particular, the structure of the cone of such functions is not clear even when the group is just $\R.$

Abstract:We introduce and study a nontrivial generalization of uniserial modules and rings. A module is called weakly uniserial if its submodules are comparable regarding embedding. Also, a right (resp., left) weakly uniserial ring is a ring which is weakly uniserial as a right (resp., left) module over itself. In this paper, in addition to providing the properties of weakly uniserial modules and rings, we show that every right R-module is weakly uniserial if and only if every 2-generated right R-module is weakly uniserial, if and only if R is a simple Artinian ring. Then it is determined which torsion-free abelian groups of rank 1 are weakly uniserial. Finally, when R is a commutative principal ideal domain, the structure of finitely generated weakly uniserial R-modules are completely determined.

Algebraization Techniques and Rigid-Analytic Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing

Abstract:First, we prove an algebraization result for rig-smooth algebras over a general noetherian ring; this positively answers the question raised in [Sta24, Tag 0GAX]. Then we prove a general partial algebraization result in non-archimedean geometry. The result says that we can always algebraize a geometrically reduced affinoid rigid-analytic space in "one direction" in an appropriate sense. As an application of this result, we show the remaining cases of the Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing for affinoid algebras, which were previously conjectured in [BM21, §7]. This allows us to deduce a stronger version of the rigid-analytic Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing Conjecture (see [Han20, Conj. 1.2]) over a field of characteristic 0. Using a completely different set of ideas, we also obtain a weaker version of this conjecture over a field of characteristic p>0.

Abstract:Let R be a commutative local noetherian ring, and let L and L' be R-modules. We investigate the properties of the functors Tor_i^R(L,-) and Ext^i_R(L,-). For instance, we show the following: (a) if L is artinian and L' is noetherian, then Hom_R(L,L') has finite length; (b) if L and L' are artinian, then the tensor product L \otimes_R L' has finite length; (c) if L and L' are artinian, then Tor_i^R(L,L') is artinian, and Ext^i_R(L,L') is noetherian over the completion \hat R; and (d) if L is artinian and L' is Matlis reflexive, then Ext^i_R(L,L'), Ext^i_R(L',L), and Tor_i^R(L,L') are Matlis reflexive. Also, we study the vanishing behavior of these functors, and we include computations demonstrating the sharpness of our results.

Abstract:We study rings whose modules and module homomorphisms display behavior similar to that of sets and their maps. For example, whenever there is an epimorphism A→B , there is a monomorphism B→A (Artinian principal ideal rings (PIR) satisfy this property and its dual for all modules). As a byproduct of this framework, we prove that a ring every factor ring of which cogenerates its cyclic right modules (one-sided version of Kaplansky's dual rings) is right Artinian and right serial. Consequently, R is an Artinian PIR if and only if every factor ring of R cogenerates its finitely generated right modules. These results can be viewed as partial answers to the CF problem, the FGF problem due to Faith and a question of Faith and Menal on strongly Johns rings. Some known results and the above one yield the following: A ring R is a direct sum of right Artinian right chain rings and Artinian PIR's if and only if every factor ring of R cogenerates its (uniform) cyclic right modules (with nonzero socle); so, such rings coincide with the right CES-rings of Jain and Lopez-Pérmouth, rings whose factors are right CF and rings that satisfy the above mentioned property for their cyclic right modules A and B . Finally, a ring is either simple Artinian or a right Artinian right chain ring if and only if one of any two cyclic right modules embeds in the other.

The strong Lefschetz property of certain modules over Clements-Lindström rings

Abstract:We introduce a method for studying the Lefschetz properties for $k[x,y]$-modules based on the Lindström-Gessel-Viennot Lemma. In particular, we prove that certain modules over Artinian Clements-Lindström rings in characteristic zero have the strong Lefschetz property. In particular, we show that every homogeneous idea in a Clements-Lindström ring of embedding dimension two has the strong Lefschetz property. As an application, we study the strong Lefschetz property of type two monomial ideals of codimension three.

Chaotic maps coupled with random delays: connectivity, topology, and network propensity for synchronization

Abstract:We study the influence of network topology and connectivity on the synchronization properties of chaotic logistic maps, interacting with random delay times. Four different types of topologies are investigated: two regular (a ring-type and a ring-type with a central node) and two random (free-scale Barabasi-Albert and small-world Newman-Watts). The influence of the network connectivity is studied by varying the average number of links per node, while keeping constant the total input that each map receives from its neighbors. For weak coupling the array does not synchronize regardless the topology or connectivity of the network; however, for certain connectivity values there is enhanced coherence. For strong coupling the array synchronizes in the homogeneous steady-state, where the chaotic dynamics of the individual maps is suppressed. For both, weak and strong coupling, the array propensity for synchronization is largely independent of the network topology and depends mainly on the average number of links per node.

Abstract:The motivation of this paper is to study the natural quiver of an artinian algebra, a new kind of quivers, as a tool independing upon the associated basic algebra. In [5], the notion of the natural quiver of an artinian algebra was introduced and then was used to generalize the Gabriel theorem for non-basic artinian algebras splitting over radicals and non-basic finite dimensional algebras with 2-nilpotent radicals via pseudo path algebras and generalized path algebras respectively. In this paper, firstly we consider the relationship between the natural quiver and the ordinary quiver of a finite dimensional algebra. Secondly, the generalized Gabriel theorem is obtained for radical-graded artinian algebras. Moreover, Gabriel-type algebras are introduced to outline those artinian algebras satisfying the generalized Gabriel theorem here and in [5]. For such algebras, the uniqueness of the related generalized path algebra and quiver holds up to isomorphism in the case when the ideal is admissible. For an artinian algebra, there are two basic algebras, the first is that associated to the algebra itself; the second is that associated to the correspondent generalized path algebra. In the final part, it is shown that for a Gabriel-type artinian algebra, the first basic algebra is a quotient of the second basic algebra. Abstract:In this paper, we prove that R is a two-sided Artinian ring and J is a right annihilator ideal if and only if (i) for any nonzero right module, there is a nonzero linear map from it to a projective module; (ii) every submodule of R R is not a radical module for some right coherent rings. We call a ring a right X ring if Hom R ( M, R ) = 0 for any right module M implies that M = 0. We can prove some left Goldie and right X rings are right Artinian rings. Moreover we characterize semisimple rings by using X rings. A famous Faith’s conjecture is whether a semipimary PF ring is a QF ring. Similarly we study the relationship between X rings and QF and get many interesting results.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring, $\fa$ an ideal of $R$, $M$ an arbitrary $R$-module and $N$ a finite $R$-module. We prove that \cite[Theorem 2.1]{Mel} and \cite[Proposition 3.3 (i)$\Leftrightarrow$(ii)]{B1} are true for any Serre subcategory of $R$-modules. We also prove a characterization theorem for $\lc_{\fa}^{i}(M)$ and $\lc_{\fa}^{i}(N,M)$ to be $\fa$-cofinite for all $i$, whenever one of the following cases holds: (a) $\ara (\fa)\leq 1$, (b) $\dim R/\fa \leq 1$ or (c) $\dim R\leq 2$. In the end we study Artinianness and Artinian $\fa$-cofiniteness of local cohomology modules.

Abstract:Recent works of the authors have demonstrated the usefulness of considering moduli spaces of Artinian reductions of a given ring when studying standard graded rings and their Lefschetz properties. This paper illuminates a key aspect of these works, the behaviour of the canonical module under deformations in this moduli space. We demonstrate that even when there is no natural geometry around, we can give a viewpoint that behaves like it, effectively constructing geometry out of nothing, giving interpretation to intersection numbers without cycles. Moreover, we explore some properties of this normalization.

Abstract:The aim of the present work is to systematically study homomorphisms of Hecke and Artin monoids and thus to develop their comprehensive theory. Our original motivation was the striking observation that parabolic projections of Hecke monoids respect all parabolic elements. We found other classes of homomorphisms of Hecke monoids with the same property and discovered that many of them lift to homomorphisms of covering Artin monoids with a similar property. It turned out that they belong to a much larger class (in fact, a category) of homomorphisms of Artin monoids, most of which appear to be new.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring and $\mathfrak{a}$ an ideal of $R$. The goal of this paper is to establish the local-global principle for the artinianness dimension $r_{\mathfrak{a}}(M)$, where $r_{\mathfrak{a}}(M)$ is the smallest integer such that the local homology module of $M$ is not artinian. For an artinian $R$-module $M$ with the set $\mathrm{Coass}_{R}\mathrm{H}_{r_{\mathfrak{a}}(M)}^{\mathfrak{a}}(M)$ finite, we show that $r_{\mathfrak{a}}(M)=\mathrm{inf}\{r_{\mathfrak{a}R_{\mathfrak{p}}}(\mathrm{Hom}_{R}(R_{\mathfrak{p}},M)) \hspace{0.03cm}|\hspace{0.03cm}\mathfrak{p}\in \mathrm{Spec}R\}$. And the class of all modules $N$ such that $\mathrm{Coass}_{R}N$ is finite is studied.

Abstract:In these expository notes I discuss several concepts and results in the theory of modules over commutative rings, revolving around the Gorenstein dimension of modules. Some of the related notions are the Auslander dual, k-torsionless modules, and k-th syzygies. Essentially everything in these notes can be found, in one form or another, in the memoir "Stable module theory" by M. Auslander and M. Bridger (Mem. A.M.S., no. 94, 1969). The only difference is in presentation. In the Auslander-Bridger memoir many of the results are proved in the most general setting, e.g. over possibly non-commutative, non-Noetherian rings. The techniques used are quite abstract and unfamiliar to many commutative algebraists. Much space is devoted to the theory of satellites of functors which are exact only in the middle, etc. While such a degree of generality has many advantages, it does make the memoir difficult to read for the non-expert. My goal in writing these notes was to develop the theory in the context of commutative Noetherian rings, and to show that, in this important special case, the theory is fairly elementary and easy to build. As a practical matter, then, I wrote the notes using Matsumura's "Commutative ring theory" as the only pre-requisite; and indeed, my hope is that these notes can be read just like an extra chapter in Matsumura's book.

Abstract:We show that the quasiequational theory of a relatively congruence modular quasivariety of left R-modules is determined by a two-sided ideal in R together with a filter of left ideals. The two-sided ideal encodes the identities that hold in the quasivariety, while the filter of left ideals encodes the quasiidentities. The filter of left ideals defines a generalized notion of torsion.It follows from our result that if R is left Artinian, then any relatively congruence modular quasivariety of left R-modules is axiomatizable by a set of identities together with at most one proper quasiidentity, and if R is a commutative Artinian ring then any relatively congruence modular quasivariety of left R-modules is a variety.
