Abstract:In this paper, we investigate some topological properties of partial metric spaces (in short PMS). We give some relationship between metric-like PMS, sequentially isosceles PMS and sequentially equilateral PMS. We also prove a type of Urysohn’s lemma for metric-like PMS. By applying the construction of Hartman–Mycielski, we show that every bounded PMS can be isometrically embedded into a pathwise connected and locally pathwise connected PMS. In the end, we show that a partial metric space is compact iff it is totally bounded and complete.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to showing the relevance of the notion of completeness used to establish a fixed point theorem in fuzzy metric spaces introduced by Kramosil and Michalek. Specifically, we show that demanding a stronger notion of completeness, called p-completeness, it is possible to relax some extra conditions on the space to obtain a fixed point theorem in this framework. To this end, we focus on a fixed point result, proved by Mihet for complete non-Archimedean fuzzy metric spaces (Theorem 1). So, we define a weaker concept than the non-Archimedean fuzzy metric, called t-strong, and we establish an alternative version of Miheţ's theorem for p-complete t-strong fuzzy metrics (Theorem 2). In addition, an example of t-strong fuzzy metric spaces that are not non-Archimedean is provided.

Abstract:Resolving an open question of J. A. Carillo and G. Toscani, M. Stawiska recently proved that certain metric spaces of probability measures equipped with Fourier-based metrics are complete. In this note, we extend such Fourier-based metrics to the class of complex Borel measures and consider the question of completeness in this broader setting.

Abstract:We consider the space $M(X)$ of separable measures on the Borel $\sigma$-algebra ${\cal B}(X)$ of a metric space $X$. The space $M(X)$ is furnished with the Kantorovich-Rubinshte\u{i}n metric known also as the ``Hutchinson distance''. We prove that $M(X)$ is complete if and only if $X$ is complete. We consider applications of this theorem in the theory of self-similar fractals.

Abstract:The space of full-ranked one-forms on a smooth, orientable, compact manifold (possibly with boundary) is metrically incomplete with respect to the induced geodesic distance of the generalized Ebin metric. We show a distance equality between the induced geodesic distances of the generalized Ebin metric on the space of full-ranked one-forms and the corresponding Riemannian metric defined on each fiber. Using this result we immediately have a concrete description of the metric completion of the space of full-ranked one-forms. Additionally, we study the relationship between the space of full-ranked one-forms and the space of all Riemannian metrics, leading to quotient structures for the space of Riemannian metrics and its completion.

Abstract:The main goal of this project is to prove the equivalency of several characterizations of completeness of Archimedean ordered fields; some of which appear in most modern literature as theorems following from the Dedekind completeness of the real numbers, while a couple are not as well known and have to do with other areas of mathematics, such as nonstandard analysis. Continuing, we study the completeness of non-Archimedean fields, and provide several examples of such fields with varying degrees of properties, using nonstandard analysis to produce some relatively "nice" (in particular, they are Cantor complete) final examples. As a small detour, we present a short construction of the real numbers using methods from nonstandard analysis.

Abstract:For two inner functions $\vartheta,\varphi\in H^\infty$, we give a simple sufficient condition for the system $\vartheta^m,\; \varphi^n$, $m,n\in\mathbb{Z}$, to be complete in the weak-$^*$ topology of $L^\infty(\mathbb{T})$. To be precise, we show that this system is complete whenever there is an arc $I$ of the unit circle $\mathbb{T}$ such that $\vartheta$ is univalent on $I$ and $\varphi$ is univalent on $\mathbb{T}\setminus I$. As an application of this result, we describe a class of analytic curves $\Gamma$ such that $(\Gamma, \mathcal{X})$ is a Heisenberg uniqueness pair, where $\mathcal{X}$ is the lattice cross $\{(m,n)\in\mathbb{Z}^2:\, mn=0\}$. Our main result extends a theorem of Hedenmalm and Montes-Rodríguez for atomic inner functions with one singularity.

Abstract:We give a new proof of the completeness of the space $\mathcal{O}_C$ by applying a criterion of compact regularity for the isomorphic sequence space $\lim_{k\rightarrow} (s\hat \otimes (\ell^\infty)_{-k})$. Along the way we show that the strong dual of any quasinormable Fréchet space is a compactly regular $\mathcal{LB}$-space. Finally, we prove that $\lim_{k\rightarrow}(E_k\hat \otimes_\iota F) = (\lim_{k\rightarrow} E_k) \hat \otimes_\iota F$ if the inductive limit $\lim_{k \rightarrow}(E_k \hat \otimes_\iota F)$ is compactly regular.

Abstract:In this paper, we study metric completions of triangulated categories in a representation-theoretic context. We provide a concrete description of completions of bounded derived categories of hereditary finite dimensional algebras of finite representation type. In order to investigate completions of bounded derived categories of algebras of finite global dimension, we define image and preimage metrics under a triangulated functor and use them to induce a triangulated equivalence between two completions. Furthermore, for a given metric on a triangulated category we construct a new, closely related good metric called the improvement and compare the respective completions.

Abstract:. We use the existence of a bounded uniformly Hölder continuous plurisubharmonic exhaustion function to characterize the Bergman completeness of a complete Kähler manifold. Abstract:We show that if X is a Tychonoff metacompact weakly pseudocompact countably sieve-complete space then X is Čech-complete. A metric space X is Čech-complete if and only if X is Telgársky complete. Then it follows that an Oxtoby complete metric space is not necessarily Telgársky complete. This answers Question 11.1 in [8] . We give an internal characterization of subgroups of products of first-countable semitopological groups which are paracompact σ -spaces. We also discuss some properties of regular ω -balanced, locally ω -good semitopological groups with a q -point, property (w⁎) and Sm(G)≤ω . We finally give a sufficient condition under which a semitopological group is topologically isomorphic to a subgroup of a product of first-countable M1 -semitopological groups.
