Abstract:Motivated by Witten’s work, we propose a K -theoretic Verlinde/Grassmannian correspondence which relates the GL Verlinde numbers to the K -theoretic quasimap invariants of the Grassmannian. We recover these two types of invariants by imposing different stability conditions on the gauged linear sigma model associated with the Grassmannian. We construct two families of stability conditions connecting the two theories and prove two wall-crossing results. We confirm the Verlinde/Grassmannian correspondence in the rank two case.

Abstract:Let $1\leq p\leq n$ be two positive integers. For a linearly nondegenerate holomorphic mapping $f\colon\mathbb{C}^p\rightarrow\mathbb{P}^n(\mathbb{C})$ of maximal rank intersecting a family of hyperplanes in general position, we obtain a Cartan's type Second Main Theorem in which the counting functions are truncated to level $n+1-p$. Our result strengthens the classical results of Stoll and Vitter, and interpolates the important works of Cartan and Carlson-Griffiths.

Abstract:A zero-entropy system is said to be loosely Bernoulli if it can be induced from an irrational rotation of the circle. We provide a criterion for zero-entropy systems to be loosely Bernoulli that is compatible with mixing. Using these criteria, we show the existence of smooth mixing zero-entropy loosely Bernoulli transformations whose cartesian product with themselves is loosely Bernoulli.

Abstract:We consider the skew diagram $\Delta_n$, which is the $180^\circ$ rotation of the staircase diagram $\delta_n = (n,n-1,n-2,...,2,1)$. We create a staircase with bad foundation by augmenting $\Delta_n$ with another skew diagram, which we call the \textit{foundation}. We consider pairs of staircases with bad foundation whose foundations are transposes of one another. Among these pairs, we show that the difference of the corresponding skew Schur functions is Schur-positive in the case when one of the foundations consists of either a one or two row diagram, or a hook diagram.

Abstract:We propose to study transformations on graphs, and more generally structures, by looking at how the cut-rank (as introduced by Oum) of subsets is affected when going from the input structure to the output structure. We consider transformations in which the underlying sets are the same for both the input and output, and so the cut-ranks of subsets can be easily compared. The purpose of this paper is to give a characterisation of logically defined transductions that is expressed in purely structural terms, without referring to logic: transformations which decrease the cut-rank, in the asymptotic sense, are exactly those that can be defined in monadic second-order logic. This characterisation assumes that the transduction has inputs of bounded treewidth; we also show that the characterisation fails in the absence of any assumptions.

Abstract:We study higher-rank Radon transforms that take functions on $j$-dimensional totally geodesic submanifolds in the $n$-dimensional real constant curvature space to functions on similar submanifolds of dimension $k >j$. The corresponding dual transforms are also considered. The transforms are explored the Euclidean case (affine Grassmannian bundles), the elliptic case (compact Grassmannians), and the hyperbolic case (the hyperboloid model, the Beltrami-Klein model, and the projective model). The main objectives are sharp conditions for the existence and injectivity of the Radon transforms in Lebesgue spaces, transition from one model to another, support theorems, and inversion formulas. Conjectures and open problems are discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, we give some basic properties for the left (right) inverse, rank and product of tensors. The existence of order 2 left (right) inverses of tensors is characterized. We obtain some equalities and inequalities on the tensor rank. We also show that the rank of a uniform hypergraph is independent of the ordering of its vertices, and the Laplacian tensor and the signless Laplacian tensor have the same rank for odd-bipartite even uniform hypergraphs.

Abstract:Motivated by problems in algebraic complexity theory (e.g., matrix multiplication) and extremal combinatorics (e.g., the cap set problem and the sunflower problem), we introduce the geometric rank as a new tool in the study of tensors and hypergraphs. We prove that the geometric rank is an upper bound on the subrank of tensors and the independence number of hypergraphs. We prove that the geometric rank is smaller than the slice rank of Tao, and relate geometric rank to the analytic rank of Gowers and Wolf in an asymptotic fashion. As a first application, we use geometric rank to prove a tight upper bound on the (border) subrank of the matrix multiplication tensors, matching Strassen's well-known lower bound from 1987.

Abstract:The application of generalized inverses is usually neglected in pure mathematical research. However, it is very effective for this paper. We expand the famous matrix rank theorem due to R. Penrose to operators between Banach paces. Therefore a modern perturbation analysis of generalized inverses is built. Hereby, we find and prove a complete rank theorem in advanced calculus. So a complete answer to the rank theorem problem presented by M. S. Berger is given. Applying the co-final set and the perturbation analysis of generalized inverses we prove the Frobenius theorem in Banach space, in the proof of which the used vector field and flow theory are avoided. The co-final set is essential to the Frobenius theorem. When the co-final set is trivial, the theorem reduces to the differential equation with initial value in Banach space. Also, we discuss a non-trivial family of subspaces and give its smooth integral submanifold.

Abstract:This paper studies the issues about tensors. Three typical kinds of tensor decomposition are mentioned. Among these decompositions, the t-SVD is proposed in this decade. Different definitions of rank derive from tensor decompositions. Based on the research about higher order tensor t-product and tensor products with invertible transform, this paper introduces a product performing higher order tensor products with invertible transform, which is the most generalized case so far. Also, a few properties are proven. Because the optimization model of low-rank recovery often uses the nuclear norm, the paper tries to generalize the nuclear norm and proves its relation to multi-rank of tensors. The theorem paves the way for low-rank recovery of higher order tensors in the future.

Abstract:We prove the Bernoulli property for a class of counter-twisting linked twist maps. These compose orthogonal linear shears on the torus, orientated in the opposite sense to their co-twisting counterparts (where the shears reinforce one another). Compared to previous studies we focus on the parameter space corresponding to weak shears, near the critical parameter below which hyperbolicity is lost and the map is non-mixing. The approach developed to deal with this situation appears applicable to a broad range of non-uniformly hyperbolic examples.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate when a finite sum of products of two Toeplitz operators with quasihomogeneous symbols is a finite rank perturbation of another Toeplitz operator on the Bergman space. We discover a noncommutative convolution $\diamond$ on the space of quasihomogeneous functions and use it in solving the problem. Our main results show that if $F_j, G_j$ ($1\leq j\leq N$) are polynomials of $z$ and $\bar{z}$ then $\sum_{j=1}^{N}T_{F_j}T_{G_j}-T_{H}$ is a finite rank operator for some $L^{1}$-function $H$ if and only if $\sum_{j=1}^{N}F_j\diamond G_j$ belongs to $L^1$ and $H=\sum_{j=1}^{N}F_j\diamond G_j$. In the case $F_j$'s are holomorphic and $G_j$'s are conjugate holomorphic, it is shown that $H$ is a solution to a system of first order partial differential equations with a constraint.
