Abstract and Applied Analysis

Abstract:This paper studies a class of transformation matrices and its applications. Firstly, we introduce a class of transformation matrices between two different vector operators and give some important properties of it. Secondly, we consider its two applications. The first one is to improve Qian Jiling's formula. And the second one is to deal with the observability of discrete-time stochastic linear systems with Markovian jump and multiplicative noises. A new necessary and sufficient condition for the weak observability will be given in the second application.

Abstract:In the paper [2] the authors defined the singular Darboux transformations and established an explicit formula for constructing unitons from a simply connected Riemann surface M to the group U(N). The formula is obtained as a limit of an infinite consequence of Darboux transformations through some renormalization procedure. Triangulated characterizations of singularities

Abstract:This work presents a range of triangulated characterizations for important classes of singularities such as derived splinters, rational singularities, and Du Bois singularities. An invariant called 'level' in a triangulated category can be used to measure the failure of a variety to have a prescribed singularity type. We provide explicit computations of this invariant for reduced Nagata schemes of Krull dimension one and for affine cones over smooth projective hypersurfaces. Furthermore, these computations are utilized to produce upper bounds for Rouquier dimension on the respective bounded derived categories.

Rank-2 wobbly bundles from special divisors on spectral curves

Abstract:Let $X$ be a compact connected Riemann surface of genus $g \geq 3$ and $S \rightarrow X$ a $2:1$ branched covering defined by a generic quadratic differential on $X$. In the following notes, we explore how taking direct images of line bundles defined by certain distinguished special divisors on $S$ gives rank-2 bundles having nilpotent Higgs fields on $X$. The key ingredient is the notion of Baker-Akhiezer divisors associated to Higgs bundles and choices of subbundles of the underlying rank-2 bundles.

Abstract:We effectively bound T-singularities on non-rational projective surfaces with an arbitrary amount of T-singularities and ample canonical class. This fully generalizes the previous work for the case of one singularity, and illustrates the vast increase in combinatorial complexity as the number of singularities grows. We find that certain combinatorial configurations lead to relatively high bounds. We classify all such configurations, and show that their non-existence gives a strong and optimal bound. As an application, we work out in detail the case of two singularities.

Prime twists of elliptic curves

Abstract:For certain elliptic curves $E/\mathbb{Q}$ with $E(\mathbb{Q})[2]=\mathbb{Z}/2 \mathbb{Z}$, we prove a criterion for prime twists of $E$ to have analytic rank 0 or 1, based on a mod 4 congruence of 2-adic logarithms of Heegner points. As an application, we prove new cases of Silverman's conjecture that there exists a positive proposition of prime twists of $E$ of rank zero (resp. positive rank).

Abstract:We establish a strong categorical correspondence between isomorphism classes of sheaves of arbitrary rank on one algebraic curve and twisted pairs on another algebraic curve. In a particular application, we realize a generic elliptic curve as a spectral cover of the complex projective line $\mathbb{P}^1$ and then construct examples of semistable co-Higgs bundles over $\mathbb{P}^1$ as pushforwards of locally-free sheaves of certain small ranks over the elliptic curve. By appealing to a composite push-pull projection formula, we conjecture an iterated version of the spectral correspondence. We prove this conjecture for a particular class of spectral covers of $\mathbb {P}^1$. The proof relies upon a classification of Galois groups into primitive and imprimitive types. In this context, we revisit a century-old theorem of J.F. Ritt.

Abstract:We study the l^{p_1,...,p_m} singular value problem for non-negative tensors. We prove a general Perron-Frobenius theorem for weakly irreducible and irreducible nonnegative tensors and provide a Collatz-Wielandt characterization of the maximal singular value. Additionally, we propose a higher order power method for the computation of the maximal singular vectors and show that it has an asymptotic linear convergence rate.

Abstract:Using Stein's method, we prove an abstract result that yields multivariate central limit theorems with a rate of convergence for time-dependent dynamical systems. As examples we study a model of expanding circle maps and a quasistatic model. In both models we prove multivariate central limit theorems with a rate of convergence.

Abstract:A tautological system, introduced in [17, 18], arises as a regular holonomic system of partial differential equations that govern the period integrals of a family of complete intersections in a complex manifold X, equipped with a suitable Lie group action. In this article, we introduce two formulas-one purely algebraic, the other geometric-to compute the rank of the solution sheaf of such a system for CY hypersurfaces in a generalized flag variety. The algebraic version gives the local solution space as a Lie algebra homology group, while the geometric one as the middle de Rham cohomology of the complement of a hyperplane section in X. We use both formulas to find certain degenerate points for which the rank of the solution sheaf becomes 1. These rank 1 points appear to be good candidates for the so-called large complex structure limits in mirror symmetry. The formulas are also used to prove a conjecture of Hosono, Lian, and Yau, on the completeness of the extended GKZ system when X is P-n [12].

Abstract:We develop the theory of stratification for a rigidly-compactly generated tensor-triangulated category using the smashing spectrum and the small smashing support. Within the stratified context, we investigate connections between big prime ideals, objectwise-prime ideals and homological primes, and we show that the Telescope Conjecture holds if and only if the homological spectrum is $T_0$ and the homological support detects vanishing. We also reduce stratification to smashing localizations. Moreover, we study induced maps between smashing spectra and prove a descent theorem for stratification. Outside the stratified context, we prove that the Telescope Conjecture holds if and only if the smashing spectrum is $T_0$ with respect to the small topology.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a standard graded algebra over a field. We investigate how the singularities of $R$ affect its $h$-vector, which is the coefficients of the numerator of its Hilbert series. The most concrete consequences of our work asserts that if $R$ satisfies Serre's condition $(S_r)$ and have reasonable singularities (Du Bois on the punctured spectrum or $F$-pure), then $h_0,\dots, h_r\geq 0$. Furthermore the multiplicity of $R$ is at least $h_0+h_1+\dots+h_{r-1}$. We also prove that equality in many cases forces $R$ to be Cohen-Macaulay. The main technical tools are sharp bounds on regularity of certain Ext modules, which can be viewed as Kodaira-type vanishing statements for Du Bois and $F$-singularities. Many corollaries are deduced, for instance that nice singularities of small codimension must be Cohen-Macaulay. Our results build on and extend previous work by de Fernex-Ein, Eisenbud-Goto, Huneke-Smith, Murai-Terai and others.

Abstract:In this paper, we exhibit two unital, separable, nuclear ${\rm C}^*$-algebras of stable rank one and real rank zero with the same ordered scaled total K-theory, but they are not isomorphic with each other, which forms a counterexample to Elliott Classification Conjecture for real rank zero setting. Thus, we introduce an additional normal condition and give a classification result in terms of total K-theory. For the general setting, with a new invariant -- total Cuntz semigroup \cite{AL}, we classify a large class of ${\rm C}^*$-algebras obtained from extensions. The total Cuntz semigroup, which distinguish the algebras of our counterexample, could possibly classify all the ${\rm C}^*$-algebras of stable rank one and real rank zero.

Abstract:We classify transcendental entire functions that are compositions of a polynomial and the exponential for which all singular values escape on disjoint rays. The construction involves an iteration procedure on an infinite-dimensional Teichmüller space, analogously to the Thurston's classical Topological Characterization of Rational Functions, but for an infinite set of marked points.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose two Z-eigenvalue inclusive sets of tensors, and prove that our new inclusion sets are more precise than some existing results. Using the derived inclusion sets, we present new upper and lower bounds of the spectral radius of nonnegative weakly symmetric tensors. Further, we offer two applications of the obtained upper and lower bounds. One application is the best rank-one approximation rate. The other application is the geometric measure of quantum pure state entanglement with nonnegative amplitudes. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the validity of the derived results.

Abstract:There are classical theorems of analysis which, given certain conditions on a perturbation, assert stability of the essential and absolutely continuous components of the spectrum of a self-adjoint operator. Whereas the singular component is known to be highly volatile under the weakest of all possible perturbations, -- rank one. In this note I announce a theorem which asserts that, nevertheless, the singular component of spectrum in an open interval is in a sense \emph{relatively stable} provided the limiting absorption principle (LAP) holds in the interval. One of the benefits of this result is the provision of a method for disproving LAP where it is suspected to fail.
