Abstract:We prove the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture for anyDOUBLE-STRUCK CAPITAL Q-Fano variety that has a log smooth resolution of singularities such that a negative linear combination of exceptional divisors is relatively ample and the discrepancies of all exceptional divisors are nonpositive. In other words, if such a Fano variety is K-polystable, then it admits a Kahler-Einstein metric. Abstract:We study the issue of numerically solving inverse singular value problems (ISVPs). Motivated by the Newton-type method introduced in [3] for solving ISVPs with distinct and positive singular values, we propose an extended Newton-type method working for ISVPs with multiple and/or zero singular values. Because of the absence of some important and crucial properties, the approach/technique used in the case of distinct and positive singular values no longer works for the case of multiple and/or zero singular values, and we develop a new approach/technique to treat the case of multiple and/or zero singular values. Under the standard nonsingularity assumption of the relative generalized Jacobian matrix at a solution, the quadratic convergence result is established for the extended Newton-type method, and numerical experiments are provided to illustrate the convergence performance of the extended method. Our extended method and convergence result in the present paper improve and extend significantly the corresponding ones in [1,3,25] for the special cases of distinct and positive singular values and/or of square matrices.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an extended Ulm-like method for solving the inverse singular value problem (ISVP for short) with multiple and/or zero singular values. Compared with the Ulm-like method, the proposed method reduces the amount of calculations and is well-defined even when multiple and/or zero singular values appear. Under the nonsingularity assumption for the relative generalized Jacobian at a solution and by using a new technique, a convergence analysis is provided and the quadratic convergence is proved. Our results in the present paper improve and extend significantly the corresponding ones of Vong et al. (2011) and Shen et al. (2018) for the ISVP with distinct and positive singular values and/or with square matrices. In particular, we solve the interesting problem raised in Vong et al. (2011): whether the Ulm-like method and its convergence result can be extended to the cases of multiple singular values and of zero singular values. Numerical results reveal that the extended Ulm-like method is an efficient algorithm for the ISVPs even when multiple and/or zero singular values appear.
A Contour Integral-Based Algorithm for Computing Generalized Singular Values

Abstract:We propose a contour integral-based algorithm for computing a few singular values of a matrix or a few generalized singular values of a matrix pencil. Mathematically, the generalized singular values of a matrix pencil are the eigenvalues of an equivalent Hermitian-definite matrix pencil, known as the Jordan-Wielandt matrix pencil. However, direct application of the FEAST solver does not fully exploit the structure of this problem. We analyze several projection strategies on the Jordan-Wielandt matrix pencil, and propose an effective and robust scheme tailored to GSVD. Both theoretical analysis and numerical experiments demonstrate that our algorithm achieves rapid convergence and satisfactory accuracy.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the problem of computing an arbitrary generalized singular value of a Grassman or real matrix pair and a triplet of associated generalized singular vectors. Based on the QR factorization, the problem is reformulated as two novel trace maximization problems, each of which has double variables with unitary constraints or orthogonal constraints. Theoretically, we show that the arbitrarily prescribed extreme generalized singular values and associated triplets of generalized singular vectors can be determined by the global solutions of the constrained trace optimization problems. Then we propose a geometric inexact Newton–conjugate gradient (Newton-CG) method for solving their equivalent trace minimization problems over the Riemannian manifold of all fixed-rank partial isometries. The proposed method can extract not only the prescribed extreme generalized singular values but also associated triplets of generalized singular vectors. Under some mild assumptions, we establish the global and quadratic convergence of the proposed method. Finally, numerical experiments on both synthetic and real data sets show the effectiveness and high accuracy of our method.

Abstract:In this study, some upper and lower bounds for singular values of a general complex matrix are investigated, according to singularity and Wielandt’s lemma of matrices. Especially, some relationships between the singular values of the matrix A and its block norm matrix are established. Based on these relationships, one may obtain the effective estimates for the singular values of large matrices by using the lower dimension norm matrices. In addition, a small error in Piazza (2002) [G. Piazza, T. Politi, An upper bound for the condition number of a matrix in spectral norm, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 143 (1) (2002) 141–144] is also corrected. Some numerical experiments on saddle point problems show that these results are simple and sharp under suitable conditions.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the convergence of the Newton-type methods for solving the square inverse singular value problem with possible multiple and zero singular values. Comparing with other known results, positivity assumption of the given singular values is removed. Under the nonsingularity assumption in terms of the (relative) generalized Jacobian matrices, quadratic/superlinear convergence properties (in the root-convergence sense) are proved. Moreover, numerical experiments are given to demonstrate our theoretic results.

Abstract:A novel concept of nonlinear singular vector and nonlinear singular value is introduced, which is a natural generalization of the classical linear singular vector and linear singular value to the nonlinear category. The optimization problem related to the determination of nonlinear singular vectors and singular values is formulated. The general idea of this approach is demonstrated by a simple two-dimensional quasigeostrophic model in the atmospheric and oceanic sciences. The advantage and its applications of the new method to the predictability, ensemble forecast and finite-time nonlinear instability are discussed. This paper makes a necessary preparation for further theoretical and numerical investigations.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish a sharp Z-eigenvalue inclusion set for even-order real tensors by Z-identity tensor and prove that new Z-eigenvalue inclusion set is sharper than existing results. We propose some sufficient conditions for testing the positive definiteness of multivariate homogeneous forms via new Z-eigenvalue inclusion set. Further, we establish upper bounds on the Z-spectral radius of weakly symmetric nonnegative tensors and estimate the convergence rate of the greedy rank-one algorithms. The given numerical experiments show the validity of our results.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish three new and general transformations with sixteen parameters and bases via Abel's lemma on summation by parts. As applications, we set up a lot of new transformations of basic hypergeometric series. Among include some new quadratic, cubic, and quartic transformations. Furthermore, we put forward the so-called (R,S) -type transformation with arbitrary degree to unify such multibasic transformations.
