Abstract:The topics relevant to grand unified theories (GUT) for fundamental forces have been investigated in the literature for four decades. The possible quantization of weak neutral charge is suggested within the model of electroweak unification in this paper, and based on this scheme, a theoretical weak mixing angle (sin2θw = 3/13 = 0.230769…), which agrees well with experimental measurements, can be obtained. In order to explore the origin of quantized weak neutral charge, a model of SU(7) grand unification is proposed. We will show that in the SU(N) GUT, N must be at least 7 in order to interpret such a theoretical weak mixing angle. It can be found that under proper weak mixing conditions for diagonal (neutral) gauge fields, such a theoretical weak mixing angle can be derived. Some relevant topics such as gauge-field vielbein and adjoint vielbein are discussed. Though there are still many problems that have not been resolved, the present scenario would enable us to gain insight into relevant topics such as gauge symmetry breaking, electroweak force unification as well as grand unification.

Abstract:In the gauge theoretic approach of gravity, General Relativity is described by gauging the symmetry of the tangent manifold in four dimensions. Usually the dimension of the tangent space is considered to be equal to the dimension of the curved manifold. However, the tangent group of a manifold of dimension $d$ is not necessarily $SO_d$. It has been suggested earlier that by gauging an enlarged symmetry of the tangent space in four dimensions one could unify gravity with internal interactions. Here we consider such a unified model by gauging the $SO_{(1,17)}$ as the extended Lorentz group overcoming in this way some difficulties of the previous attempts of similar unification and eventually we obtain the $SO_{10}$ GUT, supplemented by an $SU_2 \times SU_2$ global symmetry.

Abstract:We live in a four dimensional world. But the idea of unification of fundamental interactions lead us to higher dimensional theories. Recently a new theory with extra dimensions has emerged, where only gravity propagates in the extra dimension and all other interactions are confined in only four dimensions. This theory gives us many new hopes. In earlier theories unification of strong, weak and the electromagnetic forces was possible at around (10^{16}) GeV in a grand unified theory (GUT) and it could get unified with gravity at around the Planck scale of (10^{19}) GeV. With this new idea it is possible to bring down all unification scales within the reach of the next generation accelerators, i.e., around $10^4$ GeV.

Abstract:(GUTs), theories that unify weak , electromagnetic and strong interactions, seem to be another natural step towards the theory of everything (TOE) . The phenomenal successes of quantum electrodynamics (QED), of quantum electroweak dynamics (QEWD) and of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) describing, respectively, electromagnetic , electroweak and strong interactions strongly indicate that gauge theories are the correct framework to describe elementary particles and their interactions . In particular, the outstanding achievement of the electroweak unification5 ·6 has raised great hopes for the next step-grand unification. While ordinary GUTs have been successful in certain areas, they seem to be plagued by insurmountable problems. The gauge hierarchy problem, how to separate the electroweak scale ( 100 GeV) from the GUT scale (10 15 GeV) , is the arch-problem .7 It is remarkable that a possible satisfactory solution to this problem is provided by supersymmetry (SUSY), which is needed for other reasons as well. 9 It seems almost unavoidable that if we want to have grand unification , we had better have supersymmetric GUTs, 111 which after all are most welcome since they eventually provide a real unification in two respects: (i) automatic unifications with gravity and

On gravity unification in SL(2N,C) gauge theories

Abstract:The local $SL(2N,C)$ symmetry is shown to provide, when appropriately constrained, a viable framework for a consistent unification of the known elementary forces, including gravity. Such a covariant constraint implies that an actual gauge field multiplet in the $SL(2N,C)$ theory is ultimately determined by the associated tetrad fields which not only specify the geometric features of spacetime but also govern which local internal symmetries are permissible within it. As a consequence, upon the covariant removal of all "redundant" gauge field components, the entire theory only exhibits the effective $SL(2,C)\times SU(N)$ symmetry, comprising $SL(2,C)$ gauge gravity on one hand and $SU(N)$ grand unified theory on the other. Given that all states involved in the $SL(2N,C)$ theories are additionally classified according to their spin values, many potential $SU(N)$ GUTs, including the conventional $SU(5)$ theory, appear to be irrelevant for standard spin $1/2$ quarks and leptons. Meanwhile, applying the $SL(2N,C)$ symmetry to the model of composite quarks and leptons with constituent chiral preons in its fundamental representations reveals, under certain natural conditions, that among all accompanying $SU(N)_{L}\times SU(N)_{R}$ chiral symmetries of preons and their composites only the $SU(8)_{L}\times SU(8)_{R}$ meets the anomaly matching condition ensuring masslessness of these composites at large distances. This, in turn, identifies $SL(16,C)$ with the effective $SL(2,C)\times SU(8)$ symmetry, accommodating all three families of composite quarks and leptons, as the most likely candidate for hyperunification of the existing elementary forces.

Abstract:Based on the observation that the dimension of the tangent space is not necessarily equal to the dimension of the corresponding curved manifold and on the known fact that gravitational theories can be formulated in a gauge theoretic way, we discuss how to describe all known interactions in a unified manner. This is achieved by enlarging the tangent group of the four-dimensional manifold to SO (2, 16), which permits the inclusion of both gauge groups, the one that describes gravity as a gauge theory as well as the SO (10) describing the internal interactions. Moreover it permits the use of both Weyl and Majorana conditions imposed on the fermions, as to avoid the duplication of fermion multiplets of SO (10) appearing in previous attempts. The gravity theory discussed in the present work is the Conformal Gravity which, after a spontaneous symmetry breaking, can lead either to Weyl Gravity or to the usual Einstein Gravity.

Abstract:In Part I of the present series of papers, we adumbrate our idea of Riemannian geometry to higher order in the infinitesimals and derive expressions for the appropriate generalizations of parallel transport and the Riemannian curvature tensor. In Part II, the implications of higher-order geometry for the general theory of relativity beyond Einstein are developed. In the present Part III, we expand on the framework of Part II so as to take up the problem of field-theoretical unification. Employing the form of the Einstein-Hilbert action to higher order as proposed in Part II, we show how in nearly flat space the higher-order terms give rise to a gauge theory of Yang-Mills type. At the 2-jet level, the electroweak force emerges after imposition of gauge fixing. In fact, the proposed form of the Einstein-Hilbert action permits us to say more: we argue that the equivalence principle results in a Proca term that brings about the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the standard model. Two empirical predictions support our reasoning: first, we obtain a theoretical value for the Weinberg angle and second, we find that -- without any adjustable parameters -- the implied value of Coulomb's constant agrees well with experiment. The final section examines the 3-jet level. The same mechanism that produces Glashow-Weinberg-Salam electroweak theory at the 2-jet level eventuates in a chromodynamical force having $SU(3)$ symmetry at the 3-jet level.

Abstract:Strong, electromagnetic, and weak forces were unified in the Standard Model (SM) with spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking. These forces were further conjectured to be unified in a simple Lie group gauge interaction in the Grand Unification (GUT). In this work, we propose a theory beyond the SM and GUT by adding new gapped Topological Phase Sectors consistent with the nonperturbative global anomaly cancellation and cobordism constraints (especially from the baryon minus lepton number ${\bf B}-{\bf L}$, the electroweak hypercharge $Y$, and the mixed gauge-gravitational anomaly). Gapped Topological Phase Sectors are constructed via symmetry extension, whose low energy contains unitary Lorentz invariant topological quantum field theories (TQFTs): either 3+1d non-invertible TQFT, or 4+1d invertible or non-invertible TQFT (short-range or long-range entangled gapped phase). Alternatively, there could also be right-handed "sterile" neutrinos, gapless unparticle physics, more general interacting conformal field theories, or gravity with topological cobordism constraints, or their combinations to altogether cancel the mixed gauge-gravitational anomaly. We propose that a new high-energy physics frontier beyond the conventional 0d particle physics relies on the new Topological Force and Topological Matter including gapped extended objects (gapped 1d line and 2d surface operators or defects, etc., whose open ends carry deconfined fractionalized particle or anyonic string excitations) or gapless conformal matter. Physical characterizations of these gapped extended objects require the mathematical theories of cohomology, cobordism, or category. Although weaker than the weak force, Topological Force is infinite-range or long-range which does not decay in the distance, and mediates between the linked worldvolume trajectories via fractional or categorical statistical interactions.

Abstract:In the present study, the unification of the Conformal and Fuzzy Gravities with the Internal Interactions is based on the observation that the tangent space of a curved space and the space itself do not have necessarily the same dimensions. Moreover, the construction is based on the fact that the gravitational theories can be formulated in a gauge-theoretical way. In the present work we study the various consecutive breakings through which these unified theories can ultimately result into the Standard Model. We estimate the scales of the breakings in each case using one-loop RGEs.

Grand Unification at the Cosmological Collider with Chemical Potential

Abstract:We introduce a tree-level chemical potential mechanism for spin-1 particles within cosmological collider physics, allowing them to be detected in primordial non-Gaussianities for masses above the inflationary Hubble scale. We apply this mechanism to orbifold grand unification and the massive unification partners of the standard model gauge bosons. Our mechanism requires at least a pair of massive vector fields which are singlets of the standard model, a condition which is satisfied in the classic "trinification" scenario. Assuming that the gauge hierarchy problem is solved by supersymmetry, gauge coupling running points to unification partners at ~ $10^{15}$ GeV. We show that, within high-scale inflation, chemical potential enhancement can lead to observably strong signals for trinification partners in future cosmological surveys.

Abstract:The road towards unification of elementary interactions is thought to start on the solid ground of a universal local gauge principle. I discuss the different types of bosonic gauge symmetries in gravitational and nongravitational (standard model) interactions and their extensions both fermionic, bosonic and with respect to space-time dimensions. The apparently paradoxical size and nature of the cosmological constant is sketched, which at first sight does not readily yield a clue as to the envelopping symmetry structure of a unified theory. Nevertheless a tentative outlook is given encouraging to proceed on this road.

Abstract:In the frame of quantum field theory, instead of using the action principle, we deduce the Einstein equation from purely the general covariant principle and the homogeneity of spacetime. The Einstein equation is shown to be the gauge equation to guarantee the local symmetry of spacetime translation. Gravity is an apparent force due to the curvature of spacetime resulted from the conservation of energy-momentum. In the action of quantum field theory, only electroweak-strong interactions should be considered with the curved spacetime metric determined by the Einstein equation.

Abstract:A case is made for an alternative approach to unification that is based on a {\it purely gauge origin of the fundamental forces}, and is thus devoid of the Higgs-sector altogether. This approach seems to call for the ideas of local supersymmetry and preons. The advantage of this marriage of the ideas of local supersymmetry and preons, subject to two broad dynamical assumptions which are specified, are noted. These include true economy and viability as well as an understanding of the origins of (a) family-replication, (b) inter-family mass-hierarchy, and (c) diverse mass-scales which span from $M_{Planck}$ to $m_W \sim m_t$ to $m_e$ to $m_\nu$. In short, the approach seems capable of providing {\it a unified origin of the forces, the families and the mass-scales}. In the process, the preonic approach provides the scope for synthesizing a rich variety of phenomena all of which could arise dynamically through one and the same tool -- the SUSY metacolor force coupled with gravity -- at the scale of $10^{11}GeV$. The phenomena include: (i) spontaneous violations of parity, CP, B-L and Peccei-Quinn symmetry, (ii) origin of heavy Majorana mass for $\nu_R$, (iii) SUSY breaking, (iv) origins of even $m_W,~m_q$ and $m_\ell$, as well as, (v) inflation and lepto/baryo-genesis. Some intriguing experimental consequences of the new approach which could show at LEPI, LEPII and Tevatron and a {\it crucial prediction} which can be probed at the LHC and NLC are presented.
