Abstract:We show that gravitational mass and inertial mass are correlated by an adimentional factor, which in specific electromagnetic conditions, can be reduced, nullified, negated, and increased. Some theoretical consequences of the mentioned correlation are: the generalization of Newton=92s second law for the motion (New law for Inertia); the deduction of the differential equation for entropy (second law of Thermodynamics); unification of gravitational and electromagnetic interactions .

Abstract:We derive specific properties of electromagnetism when gravitational effects are not negligible and analyze their impact on new physics at the horizons of black holes. We show that a neutral configuration of charges in a region of high redshift, characterized by a large $g^{tt}$, produces a highly localized electromagnetic field that vanishes just beyond that region. This phenomenon implies the existence of extensive families of spacetime structures generated by electromagnetic degrees of freedom that are as compact as black holes. We construct neutral bound states of extremal black holes in four dimensions and in five dimensions, where one direction is compact. These geometries are indistinguishable from a neutral black hole, referred to as distorted Schwarzschild, except in an infinitesimal region near its horizon where the entrapped electromagnetic structures start to manifest. The five-dimensional solutions satisfy various criteria for describing black hole microstructure: they increase in size with the Newton constant, are as compact as the Schwarzschild black hole, and have an entropy that scales like $M^2$.

Abstract:A tensor description of perturbative Einsteinian gravity about an arbitrary background spacetime is developed. By analogy with the covariant laws of electromagnetism in spacetime, gravito-electromagnetic potentials and fields are defined to emulate electromagnetic gauge transformations under substitutions belonging to the gauge symmetry group of perturbative gravitation. These definitions have the advantage that on a flat background, with the aid of a covariantly constant timelike vector field, a subset of the linearised gravitational field equations can be written in a form that is fully analogous to Maxwell's equations (without awkward factors of 4 and extraneous tensor fields). It is shown how the remaining equations in the perturbed gravitational system restrict the time dependence of solutions to these equations and thereby prohibit the existence of propagating vector fields. The induced gravito-electromagnetic Lorentz force on a test particle is evaluated in terms of these fields together with the torque on a small gyroscope. It is concluded that the analogy of perturbative gravity to Maxwell's description of electromagnetism can be valuable for (quasi-)stationary gravitational phenomena but that the analogy has its limitations.

Abstract:Effects of massive object's spin on massive-massless 2 → 2 classical scattering is studied. Focus is set on the less-considered dimensionless expansion parameter λ/b , where λ is the massless particle's wavelength and b is the impact parameter. Corrections in λ/b start to appear from ( G 2 ), with leading correction terms tied to the gravitational Faraday effect, which is a special case of the Lense-Thirring effect. We compute the eikonal phase up to ( G 2 ) and extract spin effect on the scattering angle and time delay up to 14th order in spin. The gravitational Faraday effect at linear order in spin [1] is reproduced by λ/b correction terms, which we compute to higher orders in spin. We find that the equivalence principle, or universality, holds up to NLO for general spinning bodies, i.e. away from geometric optics limit. Furthermore, in the black hole limit, we confirm the absence of particular spin structure observed [2,3,4,5,6,7,8], along with the associated shift symmetry [7], and argue that it holds to arbitrary spin order at ( G 2 ) in the massless probe limit.

Abstract:Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is the fundamental theory of strong interactions. It describes the behavior of quarks and gluons which are the smallest known constituents of nuclear matter. The difficulties in solving the theory at low energies in the strongly interacting, non-perturbative regime have left unanswered many important questions in QCD, such as the nature of confinement or the mechanism of hadronization. In these lectures oriented towards the students we introduce two classes of dualities that attempt to reproduce many of the features of QCD, while making the treatment at strong coupling more tractable: (1) the AdS/CFT correspondence between a specific class of string theories and a conformal field theory and (2) an effective low-energy theory of QCD dual to classical QCD on a curved conformal gravitational background. The hope is that by applying these dualities to the evaluation of various properties of the strongly-interacting matter produced in heavy ion collisions one can understand how QCD behaves at strong coupling. We give an outline of the applications, with emphasis on two transport coefficients of QCD matter -- shear and bulk viscosities.

Abstract:We present two methods for deriving the equations of motion for charged massive spin-3/2 particles. The first approach involves utilizing the Euler-Lagrange equations derived from a Lagrangian that describes the propagation of the first massive excitation of open superstrings. The second method entails enforcing the conditions that the trace vanishes and that the covariant derivative of the equations vanish. We very briefly comment about other spins.

Abstract:There must exist a reformulation of quantum field theory, even at low energies, which does not depend on classical time. The octonionic theory proposes such a reformulation, leading to a pre-quantum pre-spacetime theory. The ingredients for constructing such a theory, which is also a unification of the standard model with gravitation, are : (i) the pre-quantum theory of trace dynamics: a matrix-valued Lagrangian dynamics, (ii) the spectral action principle of non-commutative geometry, (iii) the number system known as the octonions, for constructing a non-commutative manifold and for defining elementary particles via Clifford algebras, (iv) a Lagrangian with $E_8 \times E_8$ symmetry. The split bioctonions define a sixteen dimensional space (with left-right symmetry) whose geometry (evolving in Connes time) relates to the four known fundamental forces, while predicting two new forces, $SU(3)_{grav}$ and $U(1)_{grav}$. This latter interaction is possibly the theoretical origin of MOND. Coupling constants of the standard model result from left-right symmetry breaking, and their values are theoretically determined by the characteristic equation of the exceptional Jordan algebra of the octonions. The quantum-to-classical transition, precipitated by the entanglement of a critical number of fermions, is responsible for the emergence of classical spacetime, and also for the familiar formulation of quantum theory on a spacetime background.

QED based on eight-dimensional spinorial wave equation of the electromagnetic field and the emergence of quantum gravity

Abstract:Quantum electrodynamics (QED) is the most accurate of all experimentally verified physical theories. How QED and other theories of fundamental interactions couple to gravity through special unitary symmetries, on which the standard model of particle physics is based, is, however, still unknown. Here we develop a coupling between the electromagnetic field, Dirac electron-positron field, and the gravitational field based on an eight-component spinorial representation of the electromagnetic field. Our spinorial representation is analogous to the well-known representation of particles in the Dirac theory but it is given in terms of 8x8 bosonic gamma matrices. In distinction from earlier works on the spinorial representations of the electromagnetic field, we reformulate QED using eight-component spinors. This enables us to introduce the generating Lagrangian density of gravity based on the special unitary symmetry of the eight-dimensional spinor space. The generating Lagrangian density of gravity plays, in the definition of the gauge theory of gravity and its symmetric stress-energy-momentum tensor source term, a similar role as the conventional Lagrangian density of the free Dirac field plays in the definition of the gauge theory of QED and its electric four-current density source term. The fundamental consequence, the Yang-Mills gauge theory of unified gravity, is studied in a separate work [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2310.01460" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2310.01460">arXiv:2310.01460</a>], where the theory is also extended to cover the other fundamental interactions of the standard model. We devote ample space for details of the eight-spinor QED to provide solid mathematical basis for the present work and the related work on the Yang-Mills gauge theory of unified gravity.

Massive gravity from a first-quantized perspective

Abstract:In this work, we investigate the BRST quantization of the massive $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric spinning particle, with a twofold purpose: exploring different approaches to give mass to spinning particle models and formulating a first-quantized theory for linearized massive gravity on both flat and curved spacetime. Our results suggest that achieving the nilpotency of the BRST charge requires an Einstein spacetime with vanishing cosmological constant as the only viable consistent background. In the course of the analysis, we take the $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric worldline as an exemplificative model, correctly producing the Proca theory on curved spacetime. Our analysis shows that the associated BRST system uniquely selects the minimal coupling to the background curvature.

Abstract:Several relativistic quantum gravitational effects such as spin-rotation coupling, gravitomagnetic charge and gravitational Meissner effect are investigated in the present letter. The field equation of gravitomagnetic matter is suggested and a static spherically symmetric solution of this equation is offered. With foreseeable improvements in detecting and measuring technology, it is possible for us to investigate quantum mechanics in weak-gravitational fields. The potential implications of these gravitational effects (or phenomena) to some problems are briefly discussed.

Abstract:In this study we prove that the Pauli interaction---which is associated with a length parameter---emerges when the minimal coupling recipe is applied to the non-degenerate Dirac Lagrangian. The conventional Dirac Lagrangian is rendered non-degenerate if supplemented by a particular term quadratic in the derivatives of the spinors. For dimensional reasons, this non-degenerate Dirac Lagrangian is associated with a length parameter . It yields---just as the conventional degenerate Dirac Lagrangian---the standard free Dirac equation in Minkowski space as the terms cancel when setting up the Euler-Lagrange equations. However, if the Dirac spinor is minimally coupled to gauge fields, then the length parameter~ becomes a physical coupling constant yielding novel interactions. For the U( ) symmetry the Pauli coupling of fermions to electromagnetic fields arises, modifying the fermion's magnetic moment. We discuss the impact of these findings on electrodynamics, and estimate the upper bound of the length parameter~ from the yet existing discrepancy between the (SM) theory and measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of light leptons. This, and also recent studies of the renormalization theory, suggest that the Pauli coupling of leptons to the electromagnetic field is a necessary ingredient in QED, supporting the notion of a fundamental nature of the non-degenerate Dirac Lagrangian. In a second step we then investigate how analogous ``Pauli-type'' couplings of gravity and matter arise if fermions are embedded in curved spacetime. The diffeomorphism and Lorentz invariance of that system leads to an anomalous spin-torsion interaction and a curvature-dependent mass correction. We calculate the mass correction in the De~Sitter geometry of vacuum with the cosmological constant . Possible implications for the existence of effective non-zero rest masses of neutrinos are addressed. Finally, an outlook on the impact of mass correction on the physics of ``Big Bang'' cosmology, black holes, and of neutron stars is provided.

Charged Particles and the Electro-Magnetic Field in Non-Inertial Frames of Minkowski Spacetime

Abstract:By using the 3+1 point of view and parametrized Minkowski theories we develop the theory of {\it non-inertial} frames in Minkowski space-time. The transition from a non-inertial frame to another one is a gauge transformation connecting the respective notions of instantaneous 3-space (clock synchronization convention) and of the 3-coordinates inside them. As a particular case we get the extension of the inertial rest-frame instant form of dynamics to the non-inertial rest-frame one. We show that every isolated system can be described as an external decoupled non-covariant canonical center of mass (described by frozen Jacobi data) carrying a pole-dipole structure: the invariant mass and an effective spin. Moreover we identify the constraints eliminating the internal 3-center of mass inside the instantaneous 3-spaces. In the case of the isolated system of positive-energy scalar particles with Grassmann-valued electric charges plus the electro-magnetic field we obtain both Maxwell equations and their Hamiltonian description in non-inertial frames. Then by means of a non-covariant decomposition we define the non-inertial radiation gauge and we find the form of the non-covariant Coulomb potential. We identify the coordinate-dependent relativistic inertial potentials and we show that they have the correct Newtonian limit. Then we study properties of Maxwell equations in non-inertial frames like the wrap-up effect and the Faraday rotation in astrophysics. Also the 3+1 description without coordinate-singularities of the rotating disk and the Sagnac effect are given, with added comments on pulsar magnetosphere and on a relativistic extension of the Earth-fixed coordinate system.

Abstract:Do gravitational interactions respect the basic principles of relativity and quantum mechanics? We show that any graviton S -matrix that satisfies these assumptions cannot significantly differ from General Relativity at low energies. We provide sharp bounds on the size of potential corrections in terms of the mass M of new higher-spin states, in spacetime dimensions D≥5 where the S -matrix does not suffer from infrared ambiguities. The key novel ingredient is the full set of SO(D−1) partial waves for this process, which we show how to efficiently compute with Young tableau manipulations. Abstract:Motivated by the quantum description of gauge theories, we study the cosmological effects of relaxing the Hamiltonian and momentum constraints in general relativity and Gauss' law in electromagnetism. We show that the unconstrained theories have new source terms that mimic a pressureless dust and a charge density that only follows geodesics. The source terms may be the simplest explanation for dark matter and generically predict a charged component. We comment that discovery of such terms would rule out inflation and be a direct probe of the initial conditions of the universe.

Abstract:Recent results on the infrared structure of gravity and electromagnetism have suggested that the deep infrared is much richer than previously appreciated. This article presents a generalisation of these findings within the context of abelian and nonabelian soft (i.e. zero-energy) gauge charges. As a warm up, we describe the emergence of an infinity of soft magnetic charges even in the absence of magnetic monopoles. We show that two infinite sets of soft charges arise in the nonabelian theory as well. In light of the concomitant conservation laws associated with the soft charges, we revisit the black hole information paradox and the no-hair theorems, and argue that a generic black hole carries an infinite amount of gravitational, electromagnetic and chromodynamic soft hair.

Abstract:Recent work on scattering of massive bodies in general relativity has revealed that the mechanical center of mass of the system (or, more precisely, its relativistic mass moment) undergoes a shift during the scattering process. We show that the same phenomenon occurs in classical scattering of charged particles in flat spacetime and study the effect in detail. Working to leading order in the interaction, we derive formulas for the initial and final values of the mechanical and electromagnetic energy, momentum, angular momentum, and mass moment. We demonstrate that the change in mechanical mass moment is balanced by an opposite change in the mass moment stored in the electromagnetic field. This is a non-radiative exchange between particles and field, analogous to exchange of kinetic and potential energy. A simple mechanical analogy is a person scooting forward on the floor, who exchanges mass moment with the floor. We therefore say that electromagnetic scattering results in an electromagnetic scoot.
