Abstract:Noether's problem is classical and very important problem in algebra. It is an intrinsically interesting problem in invariant theory, but with far reaching applications in the sutdy of moduli spaces, PI-algebras, and the Inverse problem of Galois theory, among others. To obtain an noncommutative analogue of Noether's problem, one would need a significant skew field that shares a role similar to the field of ratioal functions. Given the importance of the Weyl fields due to Gelfand-Kirillov's Conjecture, in 2006 J. Alev and F. Dumas introduced what is nowdays called the noncommutative Noether's problem. Many papers in recent years \cite{FMO}, \cite{EFOS}, \cite{FS}, \cite{Tikaradze} have been dedicated to the subject. The aim of this article is to generalize the main result of \cite{FS} for more general versions of Noether's problem; and consider its analogue in prime characteristic.

Abstract:Based on the so-called re-scaling method, we will give a detailed description of the solutions to the Hamiltonian system (\ref{Hsystem}) below, which was discovered only recently by Kecker, and is strongly related to Painleve's fourth differential equation. In particular, the problem to determine those fourth Painleve transcendents with positive Nevanlinna deficiency $\delta(0,w)$, is completely resolved.

Abstract:Nevanlinna's five-value theorem is well-known as a famous theorem in value distribution theory, which asserts that two non-constant meromorphic functions on $\mathbb C$ are identical if they share five distinct values ignoring multiplicities in $\overline{\mathbb C}.$ The central goal of this paper is to generalize Nevanlinna's five-value theorem to non-compact complete Kähler manifolds with non-positive sectional curvature by means of the theory of algebraic dependence. With a certain growth condition imposed, we show that two nonconstant meromorphic functions on such class of manifolds are identical if they share five distinct values ignoring multiplicities in $\overline{\mathbb C}.$

Abstract:Liouville's 1853 paper, in which he derived in closed form the general local solution of equation $u_{z\bar z}=\exp(u)$, is one of the few papers from the 19th century that 21st century mathematicians routinely quote as motivation for their work. We try and understand the reasons for the enduring importance of this paper. Our conclusions are the following: 1. Mathematics is not cumulative, but lost material may be recovered through examination of ancient works. 2. An apparent paradox is that the degree of dissemination of ideas and concepts among mathematicians is not determined only by geographic or social affiliation (countries, cities, scientific schools, etc.). On the contrary, the existence of common scientific goals makes it possible to transfer and use these concepts. 3. Older papers, because they are not influenced by modern classifications, can help generate ideas that do not arise naturally in a modern framework. Thus, a historical perspective can help bring about new mathematics and indeed, is a necessary dimension of mathematical research.

Abstract:We implement four algorithms for solving linear Diophantine equations in the naturals: a lexicographic enumeration algorithm, a completion procedure, a graph-based algorithm, and the Slopes algorithm. As already known, the lexicographic enumeration algorithm and the completion procedure are slower than the other two algorithms. We compare in more detail the graph-based algorithm and the Slopes algorithm. In contrast to previous comparisons, our work suggests that they are equally fast on small inputs, but the graph-based algorithm gets much faster as the input grows. We conclude that implementations of AC-unification algorithms should use the graph-based algorithm for maximum efficiency.

Abstract:`Terquem's problem' is a name given in the twentieth century to the problem of enumerating certain integer sequences whose entries alternate in parity. In particular, this problem asks for the count of strictly increasing length $m$ sequences of positive integers bounded above by some integer $n$ whose odd-indexed entries are odd and whose even-indexed entries are even. This problem and its generalizations have been well-studied. However, the putative original source for this problem, an 1839 paper by Olry Terquem, is subtly different from the problem that is now attributed to Terquem. In this paper, we highlight this distinction and also make connections between Terquem's `forgotten' problem and the Fibonacci sequence, continuants, Bézout's Lemma, and the extended version of the Euclidean Algorithm.

This paper was trying to quantify the methods used by Alexei Poltoratski to prove pointwise convergence of the non-linear Fourier transform. However, the latter also contains the same mistake. Abstract:This article is dedicated to presenting and discussing various results, including several new findings, directly or indirectly related to Bolzano's theorem, famously known as the intermediate value theorem, and its multi- or infinite-dimensional versions. We aim to provide a unified approach to these issues, consistently relying on the concept of tangency. The paper seeks to justify that tangency, a geometric property, firmly supported by appropriate topological arguments, constitutes one of the central tools in nonlinear functional analysis. Our objective is to demonstrate that the legacy of Bolzano and his followers remains significant and vibrant, constituting one of the cornerstones of contemporary mathematics.

Vaughan's basic mean value Theorem (Acta Arith. 1980) to improve and complete a more general demonstration for a suitable class of arithmetic functions as started by A. C. Cojocaru and M. R. Abstract:We present two new algorithms for solving norm equations over global function fields with at least one infinite place of degree 1 and no wild ramification. The first of these is a substantial improvement of a method due to Gaál and Pohst, while the second approach uses index calculus techniques and is significantly faster asymptotically and in practice. Both algorithms incorporate compact representations of field elements which results in a significant gain in performance compared to the Gaál-Pohst approach. We provide Magma implementations, analyze the complexity of all three algorithms under varying asymptotics on the field parameters, and provide empirical data on their performance.

Solving Functional Equations Dear to W.T. Tutte using the Naive (yet fullly rigorous!) Guess And Check Method

Abstract:In his seminal paper ``A census of planar triangulations", published in 1962, the iconic graph theorist (and code-breaker), W.T. Tutte, spent a few pages to prove that a certain bi-variate generating function that enumerates triangulations, satisfies a certain functional equation. He then used his genius to actually solve it, giving closed-form solutions to the enumerating sequences. While the first part, of deriving the functional equation, still needs human ingenuity, the second part, of solving it, can nowadays be fully automated. Our Maple program, accompanying this paper, Tutte.txt, can not only solve Tutte's original equation in a few seconds, it can also solve many, far more complicated ones, way beyond the scope of even such a giant as W.T. Tutte. We use our favorite method of ``guess and check" and show how it can always be made fully rigorous (if desired).
