Abstract:Through historical, philological and logic studies, this paper researched into the popularity of the Chinese Wushu in the Ryukyu Islands in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the early Republic of China in order to shed lights on the international communication and development of the Chinese Wushu.. It was shown that the communication of the Chinese Wushu to the Ryukyu Islands was guaranteed by the initiative system of conferring and paying tribute, the communicators included “Thirty-Six Fujian Clans”, Ryukyu people living in China, and the Chinese martial artists. The main contents were Wushu culture and Wushu skills. The Chinese Wushu finally evolved into karate through the changes of the name, the skills, and the genre.

Abstract:Through a comparison between the Chinese novel the Three Kingdoms,the Japanese translated version of A Popular History of the Three Kingdoms and On Zhuge Kongming's Command of the Army by Takeda Izumo,the author points out that Takeda Izumo had very good knowledge about the Three Kingdoms and A Popular History of the Three Kingdoms,and the latter is a direct source for the language use in On Zhuge Kongming's Command of the Army. On one hand,it retains the depiction of Liu Bei as a hero while Cao Cao as a negative character. On the other hand,it maintains the characteristic ending of peace and prosperity in Jing Liu Li plays (traditional musical plays in Japan),which is manifested by the final compromise and the coexistence of three kingdoms. The play makes full use of stories about the three kingdoms and adds female characters who play an active part in the play and whose sacrifice helps the success of the main characters,which constitutes the tragic scenes needed in Jing Liu Li. However,the over-Chinese characterization of On Zhuge Kongming's Command of the Army might have made it difficult for the Japanese audience to accept,and therefore was not well received.

Abstract:The theme,social value and artistic devices of Romance of the Three Kingdoms and water Margin have caused much academic controversy.A new viewpoint is found with the adoption of western reception theory.In the exploring of the aesthetic signifciance of the two novels,the similarities and differences should be recognized but not presumed.The improvement and arrangement by Luo Guanzhong and Shi Nai′an′s are only the development from folk circulation to literary texts.Romance of Three Kingdoms and Outlaws of the Marsh as literary works should be viewed as a dynamic process,including the folk circulation,literary composition and spreading.

Abstract:In evaluating the translation quality and translation value of literary works, one of the most important assessment links is to focus on the degree of acceptance of translations by readers. Through the study of overseas readers' evaluations and dissemination effects of English translations, we can comprehensively and accurately assess the impact of different translations on readers, provide more scientific guidance and decision-making basis for the translations of classical literature, and promote the dissemination of Chinese literature overseas, thereby contributing to the enhancement of China's cultural soft power. It can provide more scientific guidance and decision-making basis for the translation of classical literature, promote the overseas dissemination of Chinese literature, and boost the enhancement of the soft power of Chinese culture. This study collects readers' evaluations of Martin Palmer 's English translation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms , which is ranked first in the review data on Amazon and the official website of Goodreads , through the Octopus data collector , and conducts text data mining on it, utilizing the KHCoder text analyzing tool and adopting a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, to analyze the readers' reviews of the high-frequency words and semantic mapping were analyzed. It was found that the factors affecting overseas readers' evaluation of the English translation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms include: the length of the full translation, the confusion and difficulty in memorization and phonetic comprehension of Chinese character names due to the names and words in the English translation, and the completeness of the translation in retaining the essence of the original work. Therefore, the subsequent translation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms not only needs to grasp the two perspectives of linguistic accuracy and cultural adaptation, but also should take more account of the preferences and needs of overseas readers, and optimize and adjust these aspects in a targeted manner.
The Changes of Women's Status in the Middle and Late Tang Dynasty and the Production and Acceptance of the Romance Novels——Based on the Story about Han Hong and Miss Liu

Abstract:In the wake of the rebellion led by An Lushan and Shi Siming in the middle Tang dynasty,great changes took place in women' ideas and status,which exerted a deep and far-reaching influence on the production and reception of the romance novels in the Tang dynasty.Against this social background,two narrative versions differing in Miss Liu's identity appeared during the spread of the story about Han Hong and Miss Liu,which revealed the tendency of depicting female characters as prostitutes in the romance novels in the middle and late Tang dynasty.This being the focus of our attention,this paper makes a comparative study on similar stories and tries to further uncover the social cause for the "scholar-prostitute" pattern as common practice in the stories about handsome scholars and pretty girls in the Tang dynasty.

Abstract:The Romance of the Three Kingdoms holds a prominent position among the Four Great Classics within the realm of Chinese classical literature. The aforementioned literary work was authored by Luo Guanzhong, a novelist from the Ming Dynasty, and it draws its inspiration from actual occurrences that transpired during the Three Kingdoms era towards the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty. Guan Yu holds a prominent position as a highly recognized figure throughout the literary work titled The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The individual in concern has undergone significant influence from several historical dynasties, resulting in the development of a multifaceted and intricate persona. This study aims to examine the development of the character Guan Yu in the literary work The Romance of the Three Kingdoms and the subsequent construction of cultural memory surrounding Guan Yu. This will be achieved via a comprehensive literature research and analytical approach. This research aims to enhance the understanding of the evolutionary trajectory and underlying factors that contributed to the transformation of Guan Yu from a historical persona to a literary construct, culminating in his universal veneration within folk culture. Furthermore, this investigation seeks to elucidate the influence exerted by the literary work The Romance of the Three Kingdoms on this transformative process.

Abstract:In 1802,at the behest of the Rama Ⅰ,Samkok,the first Thai translated version of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms appeared and soon became popular throughout the whole nation. Most interestingly,Samkok was actually more regarded as a Thai national literature than being foreign. It had a dramatic impact on the development of Thai prose literature which became the mainstream literature instead of poetry,and played an important role in Thai literature evolution procession.

Abstract:For some historic reasons, our new journal is named Genomics, Pro teomics & Bioinformatics, or as we have nicknamed it in short the Journal of GPB. A growing number of -ome and -omics have appeared in many diverse fields of biology, especially in the recent years under profound influences of the Human Genome Project and many other genome projects completed or in progress. We had almost attempted to re-name this journal Ever-more-omics to include all the new comers. However, after a second thought, we have decided to entertain these Three Kingdoms first while we are keeping an eye on others.

Abstract:The Romance of the Three Kingdoms (RTK) is a classical Chinese historical novel by Luo Guanzhong. This paper establishes a research framework of analyzing the novel by utilizing coword and cluster analysis technology. At the beginning, we segment the full text of the novel, extracting the names of historical figures in the RTK novel. Based on the coword analysis, a social network of historical figures is constructed. We calculate several network features and enforce the cluster analysis. In addition, a modified clustering method using edge betweenness is proposed to improve the effect of clustering. Finally, both quantified and visualized results are displayed to confirm our approach.

Abstract:In the book the Sequel to the Records of Ghosts of early Ming Dynasty there were some records that Luo Guanzhong wrote three dramas including the Gathering of Wind and Cloud,but no records of his writing the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and the Water Margin.So many scholars denied of his copyright of the two novels.After the comparison in the choice of subject,ideological trend,characters and images,plots,use of words,we find the Gathering of Wind and Cloud had some strong internal links with the two novels.Therefore,before we find new literature,the idea that Luo Guanzhong the dramatist,had the copyright or partial copyright of the two novels is most reasonable and dependable.

Abstract:The Ryukyu Kingdom was once an independent kingdom situated at the Ryukyu Islands in the western Pacific Ocean.In 1372,it became a tributary state of the Ming Dynasty,China.This paper,basing on an outlined narration about the origin and changes of the Ryukyu Kingdom in the process of development,conducts a detailed combing and probing in the following respects,such as:the Ryukyu Kingdom's relation and communications with China,the relationship between the Ryukyu Kingdom and Japan,and the negation between China and Japan and on the ownership of the Ryukyu Kingdom after it was invaded and arbitrarily occupied by Japan. It is expected that this paper will provide us with and clearer and more meticulous explanation on many issues related to the Ryukyu Kingdom.

Abstract:The Six Dynasties in ancient China were well-known for literature. However, in cultural exchanges then, any of the East Asian countries, especially Japan, had no ability and condition enough to import and digest the glorious literary elites from the Six Dynasties. Instead, what Japan accepted were religious beliefs, customs, tools and utensils in connection with people’s daily life. On this account, the notion of "Six Dynasties’ Culture" has now become more popular in Japan’s academia. The Six Dynasties period roughly corresponded to the beginning of enlightened age in Japan. That period was usually known as Wu (吴) in the ancient Japanese literature, suggesting that the early Japan’s civilization had the features of South China. Seeing things from this perspective, we can depict the routes as follows. The culture of the Six Dynasties first spread to the Korean peninsula and then extended to Japan by Baekje (百济). The first books transmitted to Japan should be the primers known as Qianziwen and then the books on Confucianism such as the Analects. It was via Baekje that the prince royal and Confucian scholars were dispatched to Japan for enlightening education, and thus the Six Dynasties’ culture typical of Baekje exerted a great influence on Japan’s civilizing process.

Abstract:Digital humanities is an important subject because it enables developments in history, literature, and films. In this article, we perform an empirical study of a Chinese historical text, Records of the Three Kingdoms (Records), and a historical novel of the same story, Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Romance). We employ deep-learning-based natural language processing (NLP) techniques to extract characters and their relationships. The adopted NLP approach can extract 93% and 91% characters that appeared in the two books, respectively. Then, we characterize the social networks and sentiments of the main characters in the historical text and the historical novel. We find that the social network in Romance is more complex and dynamic than that of Records, and the influence of the main characters differs. These findings shed light on the different styles of storytelling in the two literary genres and how the historical novel complicates the social networks of characters to enrich the literariness of the story.

Abstract:The Oriental Forum, journal of Qingdao University, is to start a column “Dissemination of Oriental Learning”, which, in my opinion, is a good idea put into practice at the right time. I am willing to say something about what I think. I have been paying special attention to cultural exchange, maintaining that culture should be exchanged in the spirit of both bringing in and sending over. As for exchanges between Chinese and western cultures, my basic point remains the same. For the time being, we should lay more emphasis on “brining in” in dealing with west or foreign culture. But we have no reason to ignore “easternization”, which is my coinage, while following “westernization”. Tracing historical facts has proved that in the history of Chinese and west culture exchange, the dissemination of oriental learning has never stopped. I consider the 21st century as that of “easternization”, through which oriental culture will take over the dominant position held by west culture in the world. Oriental culture will take the lead and take in the quintessence of west culture.

Abstract:The translation and dissemination of literature is a critical means of cultural exchange, enabling the transmission of ideas, values, and traditions across linguistic and cultural boundaries. In recent years, multi-modal translation theory has emerged as a significant framework for understanding the complexities involved in translating literary works that encompass various modes of representation, such as text, images, and sound. This research focuses on "Red Sorghum", a seminal work of Shandong red literature, which is renowned for its vivid portrayal of rural life in China during the 1930s and 1940s. The novel, written by Mo Yan, winner of the Nobel Prize in literature, has been widely acclaimed for its powerful narrative and rich cultural connotations. The study examines the multi-modal characteristics of the text, the translation strategies employed, and the multi-modal transformations that occur during the translation process. By adopting a multi-modal approach to translation, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in translating literary works, particularly those with rich cultural and historical contexts. The findings of this research have implications for the field of translation studies and offer insights into the effective dissemination of literary works across cultures.

Abstract:Guiding by "Tao-xue in decline" narrative mode, Neo-Confucians take the action of compiling and publishing Cheng Brother's books as one of steps of rejuvenating Tao-xue. Although the actual number of how many Cheng Brother's books have been published is still not able to work out, but some arguments coming up during the process of compiling and publishing is not only the debating based on different academic opinions, but also concerns about the power of the explanation for the doctrine. In addition, reader's reading Cheng Brother's books can also be taken as another kind action of Tao-xue. Through this reading behavior, Tao-xue's form is not only to be extended, but also attains its new contents.

Abstract:The Turfan manuscripts seldom involve literary materials and are flawed by fragmentation and incompleteness.However,their accidental preservation provides objective testimony to the dissemination of Chinese literature in Turfan oasis society during the period 327-803.The manuscripts can be classified into the three categories of handwritten books,copybooks and drafts of literary works,revealing the evolutionary process and details of the production of Chinese literature in Turfan.Literature in this region evolved in tandem with its counterpart in the Central Plains; it was closely related to cultural diffusion by immigrants from the hinterland,the protection by cultural institutions and the pursuit of literary fashions in the hinterland.These works offer a unique picture of the acceptance and dissemination of Chinese culture in the border regions.The impact of Chinese culture,transplanted here in the Wei and Jin dynasties,survived even the Uyghur cultural domination of the Turfan oasis after the mid-ninth century.In their richness and diversity,the Turfan manuscripts,with their "dual (internal and external) fragmentation" demonstrate the process and actuality of literary dissemination and acceptance in Turfan in middle antiquity.
