The Romance of Three Kingdoms and Thai Literature Evolution

Abstract:In 1802,at the behest of the Rama Ⅰ,Samkok,the first Thai translated version of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms appeared and soon became popular throughout the whole nation. Most interestingly,Samkok was actually more regarded as a Thai national literature than being foreign. It had a dramatic impact on the development of Thai prose literature which became the mainstream literature instead of poetry,and played an important role in Thai literature evolution procession.
