Abstract:The study of the aborigines in Taiwan began from Qing Dynasty ,and developed into the phase of indagation during the time that Taiwan was occupied by Japan. Then the study of the aborigines leaded by scholars in Taiwan got great development on the indagation of ethnography and the research of social and cultural anthropology. A kind of inaccurate tendency that several scholars unilaterally emphasize the relation between the aborigines in Taiwan and Austronesian family has been appearing in recent years. Basing on the new research of ethnography indagation and by integrated multi-subject research , rebuilding the important item such as the origin, the history, the relationship and the identifying of the nation on the aborigines in Taiwan, is the unshirkable responsibility to the continent scholars in the new century.

Abstract:The origination and development of the story in Journey to the West is generally thought to owe much to the staitic findings of ancient records and cultural relics to the neglect of dynamic factors, especially the influence of the debates between Buddhist and Taoist ideas in history. This paper starts from the discussion of Zhiyuan Distinction from Falsehood in Kula Khan's time which was closest to it in time, goes on to base itself on the incident of betting of Buddhism and Taoism in The Xuwu Debate (1258), continues with the discussion of the story of saint contest in Chechi told in the book of Piao Tongshi and finally comes to the story of power contest between Buddhism and Taoism in Journey to the West . It will also cover the influence of vernacular Chinese in Yuan Dynasty on the narrative style of Journey to the West, hoping to trace and locate the origin of the powerful imagination in it.

Abstract:In recent decade,the research on overseas Chinese classics has become a new trend in the international sinology.There are profound internal and external reasons to this trend,and the formation of the trend is realized by newly- found materials which call for a new theoretical proposition and a new method of thinking. The"novelty"about the trend shows in the close-reading of new materials and the reflection of academic position of sinology,and these practices may be expected to initiate a new departure for the Chinese scholarship in the 21th century. In brief,the research paradigm will shift from"the Western dame"to"the Eastern daughter. "This paper focuses on the relationship between the Chinese literature and East Asian civilizations,and proposes five areas of research which may benefit from overseas classical texts in Chinese language. It describes the potential space for exploration of the classical Chinese research and argues for the"necessary tension"between facts and theory.

Abstract:This article is a research report involving three anthropological studies conducted during the period of “Kuige” and their “re-studies.” By narrating the project, I set forth my views on the connections and differences between Chinese anthropological explorations from two historical periods. These anthropological explorations refer to the study of Lu Village conducted by Fei Xiaotong, that of “West Town” (Xizhou) by Francis L. K. Hsu, and that of “Pai-IPai” (Dai) villages by Tien Ju-Kang. They were all completed in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Each writer extracted a framework to analyze the land system, ancestor worship, and the relationship between humans and gods from the writer’s own field experience. Despite the difference in research methods, all three studies noticed the cultural differences between rural society and modernity. Since 2000, Peking University and Yunnan Minzu University have launched a “Province-university Cooperation Project.” During the project, a research team formed of several young scholars revisited Lu Village, “West Town” (Xizhou), and Namu Village. These writers’ works were based on the data acquired in their fieldwork and drew upon the opinions raised by global anthropologists on “re-study” in recent decades. Considering the dual effects of social change and shifts in academic concepts around “follow-up research,” the scholars put forward several points of view with their ethnographies, which all featured the characteristics of inheritance and reflection. Based on the results of the three “re-studies,” this article emphasizes the importance of the study of public rituals for the research of rural society. This article also attempts to re-examine the methodology of “human ecology,” which profoundly impacts Chinese anthropology and sociology.

The Southeast and the Southwest:Searching for the connections between "academic regions"

Abstract:This article examines two existing "academic regions" in Chinese anthropology:the Southeastern and Southwestern models of anthropology.The author points out that the "bifurcation" of Southeastern "complex"of communities,lineages,markets,and folk religions and Southwestern "ways of being ethnic"has created a serious problem for the anthropology of Chinese civilization.He also argues that to further "internal understandings"of either region,it is necessary to think "externally" — to bring "external relationships" into "internal structures".The author has written extensively on sinological anthropology and ethnology as well as Chinese social science in general.In this context,he criticizes anthropologies in China and abroad of their common negligence of the relationships which have played important roles in the configuration of the regions under the empire-turned nation.

Abstract:Abstract In the past ten years, new progress has been made in the study of Chinese overseas, which provides important scientific basis for the work of Chinese overseas and the formulation of relevant policies. Through data mining and analysis of overseas Chinese literature from 2008 to 2021, this work studied the co-occurrence relationships among keywords, authors, research institutions, publication sources of target articles, references and citations. The results suggest a few things. In terms of keyword analysis, there is a high probability that keywords coexist among overseas Chinese, Chinese society and Chinese history. In addition, the degree of cooperation between authors and research institutions in overseas research in China is not high. In terms of target journals, references and citations, resources such as Journal of Overseas Chinese Historical Studies, Overseas Chinese Publishing Company and People’s Publishing House are the main publications published by most overseas Chinese research institutions. In addition, academic articles cite fewer of the journal’s journals. Based on the above problems, this study puts forward relevant recommendations for decision-making, in order to further promote the exchange, sharing and development of China’s overseas research results.

Research on Overseas Dissemination of the English Translation of To Live Based on Sentiment Analysis and Topic Mining

Abstract:Against the background of today s deepening global literary exchange and translation field, a thorough investigation into the international readers responses has become an important task. In this context, this study takes one of Yu Hua s masterpieces, To Live, as a case study, and systematically examines overseas English-speaking audiences reviews of the English translation of To Live on major international book sales and review platforms. The study covers more than 900 English readers comments, including multiple steps of data preprocessing, data description, sentiment analysis and topic mining to obtain comprehensive and in-depth conclusions. The findings of the study show that overseas English readers generally hold a positive attitude towards the English translation of To Live. The comments focus on various levels such as cultural background, writing style, translation, wisdom and emotional experience conveyed by the work, reflection on the novel s main themes, and recognition of the author. This finding reflects the wide resonance of To Live among international readers, and also provides strong empirical support for the global dissemination of Chinese literature.

Abstract:The spread of Chinese culture has become a new international resource thanks to the rapid and stable social and economic development of China in the modern time.In the process of globalization,the spread of Chinese culture has its own features,turning from academic research into needs-meeting,from mother-tongue teaching into bilingual teaching,from classroom learning into multi-activity learning,from passing down knowledge into rethinking Chinese.Promoting the spreading Chinese culture in cross-cultural communication is a start point for us to participate in the globalized competition and cooperation.There are great differences existing in understanding of the promotion of spreading Chinese culture among Chinese and overseas.To promote the spread of Chinese culture,highlighting the idea of cross-cultural communication,compiling suitable teachinig materials for cross-cultural communication,and changing using schedule of teaching resources should be emphasized.

Abstract:The role of urban china research has been the subject of popular topic in recent urban studies overseas. This paper examines the academic research on urban China. It begins with a discussion of the background and overview of main research fields about urban China research. It is argued that although current overseas studies on urban China have improved Chinese relative research theories and methods, they have their own drawbacks. This paper proposes the further considerations: the context of China studies and right to have a voice in the international research field, the cooperation between civil and abroad scholars and the practicality of the abroad research, which aim to sustain the urban China studies.
Overseas Chinese Students and the Spread of Chinese Culture Abroad: Focusing on the First Half of 20th Century

Abstract:In the cross-cultural communication between China and the West in the first half of the 20 th century,Overseas Chinese students,by virtue of their deep accomplishment in both Chinese and Western learning as well as cultural consciousness,actually took the role of the government in transmitting Chinese culture.They translated Chinese works into foreign languages,created works about Chinese literature and culture in foreign languages,conducted academic researches on Chinese issues in foreign languages,provided assistance to Western sinological circles with Chinese language and Chinese resources and showed the spiritual outlook of Chinese people by interpersonal communication and social activities. The overseas Chinese students thus became the significant medium in spreading Chinese learning to the West. The emergence of this cultural phenomenon was not only the outcome of development of Chinese education for studying abroad,but also closely related to the cultural background that the west-centrism was widely questioned but Chinese culture was popular again after the two world wars.

Abstract:The international spread of Ba-and-Shu Culture (local culture of Sichuan and Chongqing) can promote the soft power of China, especially in Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality and their international economic and trade exchanges. With the basis and capacity of cultural research, as well as the channel and capacity of cultural transmission, the universities located in Sichuan and Chongqing should take the task of international communication of Ba-and-Shu Culture. Through interviewing, online questionnaire and data collection, this paper preliminarily studies how X University has studied and transmitted Ba-and-Shu Culture. Problems are identified during the process of research with corresponding measures for optimization, which sets the stage for further study.

Abstract:The ethnic groups' languages in southwest frontier regions are rich and in complex contact with each other.The bypasses of tea-trading route and its extended areas contribute to the distribution and the contacting types of ethnic groups' languages.The Chinese Linguistics Society has conducted extensive and deep study on languages and cultures in southwest frontier regions and great achievement has been made in such aspects as language contact,justifying the homology relationship,reference grammar description,language typology and language protection.Accurate fieldwork and rigorous theoretical generalization must be attached importance to in order to fulfill the research goal.
