They are closely related to our investigation of the periodicity of thesequence ∑_j=0^ll jS(j,m)a^l-j(l=m,m+1,...) modulo a primep, where a and m>0 are integers, and those S(j,m) are Stirling numbersof the second kind. We also give a new extension of Glaisher's congruence byshowing that (p-1)p^[log_p m] is a period of the sequence ∑_j=r(modp-1)l jS(j,m)(l=m,m+1,...) modulo p.

Abstract:In the context of Stirling polynomials, Gessel and Stanley introduced the definition of Stirling permutation, which has attracted extensive attention over the past decades. Recently, we introduced Stirling permutation code and provided numerous equidistribution results as applications. The purpose of the present work is to further analyse Stirling permutation code. First, we derive an expansion formula expressing the joint distribution of the types $A$ and $B$ descent statistics over the hyperoctahedral group, and we also find an interlacing property involving the zeros of its coefficient polynomials. Next, we prove a strong connection between signed permutations in the hyperoctahedral group and Stirling permutations. Furthermore, we investigate unified generalizations of the trivariate second-order Eulerian polynomials and ascent-plateau polynomials. Using Stirling permutation codes, we provide expansion formulas for eight-variable and seventeen-variable polynomials, which imply several $e$-positive expansions and clarify the connections among several statistics. Our results generalize the results of Bóna, Chen-Fu, Dumont, Janson, Haglund-Visontai and Petersen.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a generalization of the Stirling numbers of the first kind (classical and analogues versions) related to an extension of elementary symmetric function. These numbers appear as the coefficients of in the expression . The array formed by these coefficients can be seen as a natural generalization of the first Stirling triangle. We also give a combinatorial interpretation of the classical numbers in terms of s -tuples of permutations of [ n ] with k cycles and using the inversion and co-inversion statistics on the cycles in the case of the analogues numbers, which also allows us to establish as a particular case the analogues of the Stirling numbers of the first kind. In addition, using the Legendre–Stirling numbers and the Stirling numbers of the first kind new formulas and useful properties are proposed.

Abstract:By using the familiar Stirling numbers, we derive the explicit forms of the weighted Newton-Cotes integration formulas and the weighted Adams-Bashforth and Adams-Moulton rules in terms of the Stirling numbers of the first and second kind. Abstract:The aim of this paper is to give some new relations, identities, and inequalities for the Bernoulli polynomials and numbers of higher order, the Stirling numbers of the second kind, the Eulerian numbers, and the Catalan numbers. By applying the Laplace transformation to the generating function of the Bernoulli polynomials of higher order, a novel formula for these polynomials is obtained. Integral and series representations for these polynomials and numbers are given. Moreover, the upper bound and the lower bound for the Bernoulli numbers of negative order are given. Some inequalities including the Bernoulli numbers of negative order and the Stirling numbers of the second kind are also given. Finally, appropriate ligaments of the definitions and results introduced here with those in earlier as well as oncoming investigations will be designated.

Abstract:A permutation $\sigma$ of the multiset $\{1,1,2,2,\ldots,n,n\}$ is called a Stirling permutation of order $n$ if $\sigma_s>\sigma_i$ as long as $\sigma_i=\sigma_j$ and $i<s <j$. In this paper, we present a unified refinement of the ascent polynomials and the ascent-plateau polynomials of Stirling permutations. In particular, by using Foata and Strehl's group action, we prove that the pairs of statistics (left ascent-plateau, ascent) and (left ascent-plateau, plateau) are equidistributed over Stirling permutations of given order, and we show the $\gamma$-positivity of the enumerative polynomial of left ascent-plateaus, double ascents and descent-plateaus. A connection between the $\gamma$-coefficients of this enumerative polynomial and Eulerian numbers is also established.

Abstract:Let ${\bf s} = (s_1, s_2, \ldots, s_n,\ldots)$ be a sequence of positive integers. An ${\bf s}$-inversion sequence of length $n$ is a sequence ${\bf e} = (e_1, e_2, \ldots, e_n)$ of nonnegative integers such that $0 \leq e_i < s_i$ for $1\leq i\leq n$. When $s_i=(i-1)k+1$ for any $i\geq 1$, we call the ${\bf s}$-inversion sequences the $k$-inversion sequences. In this paper, we provide a bijective proof that the ascent number over $k$-inversion sequences of length $n$ is equidistributed with a weighted variant of the ascent number of permutations of order $n$, which leads to an affirmative answer of a question of Savage (2016). A key ingredient of the proof is a bijection between $k$-inversion sequences of length $n$ and $2\times n$ arrays with particular restrictions. Moreover, we present a bijective proof of the fact that the ascent plateau number over $k$-Stirling permutations of order $n$ is equidistributed with the ascent number over $k$-inversion sequences of length $n$.

We provide an upper bound for the occurrences of all the positive integers, and present certain questions for further study. Abstract:In this article we generalize the $q$-difference operator due to Carlitz in order to derive explicit sum formulae for several extensions of Stirling numbers of the second kind, including complete homogeneous symmetric functions, complementary symmetric functions, $r$-Whitney numbers and elliptic analogues of rook, Stirling and Lah numbers. Furthermore, we generalize Carlitz' $q$-Eulerian numbers to a Lagrange polynomial extension. We define them by generalizing Worpitzky's identity appropriately, and derive a recursion and an explicit sum formulae. Special cases include $r$-Whitney Eulerian numbers and elliptic Eulerian numbers.

Abstract:The Stirling approximation formula for $n!$ dates from 1730. Here we give new and instructive proofs of this and related approximation formulae via tools of probability and statistics. There are connections to the Central Limit Theorem and also to approximations of marginal distributions in Bayesian setups. Certain formulae emerge by working through particular instances, some independently verifiable but others perhaps not. A particular case yielding new formulae is that of summing independent uniforms, related to the Irwin--Hall distribution. Yet further proofs of the Stirling flow from examining aspects of limiting normality of the sample median of uniforms, and from these again we find a proof for the Wallis product formula for $\pi$.
