Abstract:A series of multi-step cyclic stress tests were conducted at 700 °C to investigate the effect of loading history on strain behavior and life. Results show that the cyclic stress–strain response exhibits linear elasticity, and the curve gradually moves along the direction of the mean stress. Compared to single-step cyclic loading, the strain rate under multi-step cyclic loading is promoted by the loading history of the lower stress levels and limited by the higher stress levels. The loading mode affects crack propagation. As the multi-step loading mode changes from stress-increasing to stress-decreasing, the cracking mode also changes from mixed cracking dominated by transgranular to mixed cracking with intergranular plus transgranular. The life analysis ( ∑ i = 1 3 ( t i / t r i ) ) shows that the cumulative ratio of multi-step to single-step loading is obviously not equal to 1. A nonlinear cumulative model ( S m = ∑ i = 1 3 { ε ̇ min i - m u l t i ε ̇ min i - sin g l e α ∙ ( t i / t r i ) } ; α r = 0.4 , α d = 1.0 ) is proposed to achieve the normalization of the life ratio according to the variation characteristics of the minimum strain rate.
