Abstract:Through experimentation and numerical simulation with a viscoelastic model, the behavior of the dissimilar superalloys, Inconel 718 and Mar-M247, bonded via rotating friction under cyclic loadings at elevated temperature, was studied. The impact of the cyclic loading rate on fracture, stress/strain in the welded zone, and joint life was discussed. The experimental results showed that the joint was fractured in the Mar-M247 side, outside the welded zone, under high loading rates. The fracture location shifted to Inconel 718 side, near the interface, when the strain loading rate was reduced to 10 −5 s −1 .The numerical simulated results displayed that von Mises stress, hydrostatic stress, and creep strain were concentrated significantly in the welded zone, near the interface in the Inconel 718 side. As the loading rate reduced, both the von Mises stress and hydrostatic stress were reduced due to the relaxation. The stresses and creep strain concentration could be the important factors concerning to the failure behavior of the joint.
