Abstract:Let $I$ be a monomial ideal of a polynomial ring $R$. In this paper we determine a number $B$ such that $\Ass (I^n/I^{n+1}) = \Ass (I^{B}/I^{B+1})$ for all $n\geq B$.

Abstract:The sequence $(\operatorname{Ass}(R/I^n))_{n\in\mathbb{N}}$ of associated primes of powers of a monomial ideal $I$ in a polynomial ring $R$ eventually stabilizes by a known result by Markus Brodmann. Lê Tuân Hoa gives an upper bound for the index where the stabilization occurs. This bound depends on the generators of the ideal and is obtained by separately bounding the powers of $I$ after which said sequence is non-decreasing and non-increasing, respectively. In this paper, we focus on the latter and call the smallest such number the copersistence index. We take up the proof idea of Lê Tuân Hoa, who exploits a certain system of inequalities whose solution sets store information about the associated primes of powers of $I$. However, these proofs are entangled with a specific choice for the system of inequalities. In contrast to that, we present a generic ansatz to obtain an upper bound for the copersistence index that is uncoupled from this choice of the system. We establish properties for a system of inequalities to be eligible for this approach to work. We construct two suitable inequality systems to demonstrate how this ansatz yields upper bounds for the copersistence index and compare them with Hoa's. One of the two systems leads to an improvement of the bound by an exponential factor.

Abstract:Let $I$ be a monomial ideal $I$ in a polynomial ring $R = k[x_1,...,x_r]$. In this paper we give an upper bound on $\overline{\dstab} (I)$ in terms of $r$ and the maximal generating degree $d(I)$ of $I$ such that $\depth R/\overline{I^n}$ is constant for all $n\geqslant \overline{\dstab}(I)$. As an application, we classify the class of monomial ideals $I$ such that $\overline{I^n}$ is Cohen-Macaulay for some integer $n\gg 0$.

Abstract:Let $R=K[x_1,...,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $K$ with the maximal ideal $\frak{m}=(x_1,...,x_n)$. Let $\astab(I)$ and $\dstab(I)$ be the smallest integer $n$ for which $\Ass(I^n)$ and $\depth(I^n)$ stabilize, respectively. In this paper we show that $\astab(I)=\dstab(I)$ in the following cases: \begin{itemize} \item[(i)] $I$ is a matroidal ideal and $n\leq 5$. \item[(ii)] $I$ is a polymatroidal ideal, $n=4$ and $\frak{m}\notin\Ass^{\infty}(I)$, where $\Ass^{\infty}(I)$ is the stable set of associated prime ideals of $I$. \item[(iii)] $I$ is a polymatroidal ideal of degree $2$. \end{itemize} Moreover, we give an example of a polymatroidal ideal for which $\astab(I)\neq\dstab(I)$. This is a counterexample to the conjecture of Herzog and Qureshi, according to which these two numbers are the same for polymatroidal ideals.

Abstract:In this paper, we focus on the associated primes of powers of monomial ideals and asymptotic behavior properties such as normally torsion-freeness, normality, the strong persistence property, and the persistence property. In particular, we introduce the concept of monomial ideals of well-nearly normally torsion-free type, and show that these ideals are normal. After that, we present some results on the existence of embedded associated prime ideals in the associated primes set of powers of monomial ideals. Further, we employ them in investigating the edge and cover ideals of cones of graphs. Next, we present counterexamples to several questions concerning the relations between relevant algebraic properties of the edge ideals of clutters and complement clutters. We conclude by providing counterexamples to questions on the possible connections between normally torsion-freeness and normality of monomial ideals under polarization.

Abstract:Let $(R,\mathfrak{m})$ be a regular local ring or a polynomial ring over a field, and let $I$ be an ideal of $R$ which we assume to be graded if $R$ is a polynomial ring. Let astab$(I)$ resp. $\overline{\rm astab}(I)$ be the smallest integer $n$ for which Ass$(I^n)$ resp. Ass$(\overline{I^n})$ stabilize, and dstab$(I)$ be the smallest integer $n$ for which depth$(I^n)$ stabilizes. Here $\overline{I^n}$ denotes the integral closure of $I^n$. We show that astab$(I)=\overline{\rm astab}(I)={\rm dstab}(I)$ if dim$\,R\leq 2$, while already in dimension $3$, astab$(I)$ and $\overline{\rm astab}(I)$ may differ by any amount. Moreover, we show that if dim$\,R=4$, then there exist ideals $I$ and $J$ such that for any positive integer $c$ one has ${\rm astab}(I)-{\rm dstab}(I)\geq c$ and ${\rm dstab}(J)-{\rm astab}(J)\geq c$.

Abstract:Let $R = \mathbb{K}[x_1, \ldots, x_n]$ be a polynomial ring over a field $\mathbb{K}$, and let $I \subseteq R$ be a monomial ideal of height $h$. We provide a formula for the multiplicity of the powers of $I$ when all the primary ideals of height $h$ in the irredundant minimal primary decomposition of $I$ are irreducible. This is a generalization of \cite[Theorem 1.1]{TV}. Furthermore, we present a formula for the multiplicity of powers of special powers of monomial ideals that satisfy the aforementioned conditions. Here, the $m$-th special power of a monomial ideal refers to the ideal generated by the $m$-th powers of all its minimal generators. Finally, we explicitly provide a formula for the multiplicity of powers of special powers of edge ideals in vertex-weighted oriented graphs using combinatorial properties.

Building monomial ideals with fixed betti numbers

Abstract:Motivated by the fact that as the number of generators of an ideal grows so does the complexity of calculating relations among the generators, this paper identifies collections of monomial ideals with a growing number of generators which have predictable free resolutions. We use elementary collapses from discrete homotopy theory to construct infinitely many monomial ideals, with an arbitrary number of generators, which have similar or the same betti numbers. We show that the Cohen-Macaulay property in each unmixed (pure) component of the ideal is preserved as the ideal is expanded.

Abstract:Let $R=K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ be a polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $K$ and $I$ be a matroidal ideal of degree $d$. Let $\astab(I)$ and $\dstab(I)$ be the smallest integers $l$ and $k$, for which $\Ass(I^l)$ and $\depth(R/I^k)$ stabilize, respectively. In this paper, we show that $\astab(I),\dstab(I)\leq\min\{d,\ell(I)\}$, where $\ell(I)$ is the analytic spread of $I$. Furthermore, by a counterexample we give a negative answer to the conjecture of Herzog and Qureshi \cite{HQ} about stability of matroidal ideals.

On regularity and projective dimension of invariant chains of monomial ideals

Abstract:Ideals in infinite-dimensional polynomial rings that are invariant under the action of the monoid of increasing functions have been extensively studied recently. Of particular interest is the asymptotic behavior of truncations of such an ideal in finite-dimensional polynomial subrings. It has been conjectured that the Castelnuovo--Mumford regularity and projective dimension are eventual linear functions along such truncations. In the present paper we provide evidence for these conjectures. We show that for monomial ideals the projective dimension is eventually linear, while the regularity is asymptotically linear.

Abstract:A geometric characterization of transition amplitudes between coherent states, or equivalently, of the hermitian scalar product of holomorphic cross sections in the associated D - M tilda - module, in terms of the embedding of the cohe- rent state manifold M-tilda into a projective Hilbert space is proposed. Cohe- rent state manifolds endowed with a homogeneous kaehler structure are conside- red. Using the coherent state approach, an effective method to find the cut loci on symmetric manifolds and generalized symmetric manifolds M-tilda is proposed. The CW - complex structure of coherent state manifolds of flag type is discussed. Recent results of Anandan and Aharonov are commented vis-a-vis of last century constructions in projective geometry. Calculations with signi- ficance in coherent state approch furnish explicit proofs of the results announ- ced by Y. C. Wong on conjugate locus in complex Grassmann manifold.

Abstract:Factoring ideals in integral domains is a central topic in multiplicative ideal theory. In the present paper we study monoids of ideals and consider factorizations of ideals into multiplicatively irreducible ideals. The focus is on the monoid of nonzero divisorial ideals and on the monoid of $v$-invertible divisorial ideals in weakly Krull Mori domains. Under suitable algebraic finiteness conditions we establish arithmetical finiteness results, in particular for the monotone catenary degree and for the structure of sets of lengths and of their unions.

Abstract:Lyubeznik introduced the concept of size of a monomial ideal and showed that the size of a monomial ideal increased by $1$ is a lower bound for its depth. Associated with this, Herzog, Popescu and Vladoiu showed that the size increased by $1$ is simultaneously a lower bound for its Stanley depth. It turns out that the splitting-variables technique in their paper is particularly suited for comparing the Stanley depth and size of squarefree monomial ideals. In this paper, we generalize this technique and investigate the quotient $I/J$ when $J\subsetneq I$ are general monomial ideals. As an application, we consider lower bounds for Stanley depth of quotients of monomial ideals under various conditions. Through Alexander duality, we also consider upper bounds for the Stanley support-regularity of edge ideals of clutters. Meanwhile, recently, Katthän and Seyed Fakhari established another lower bound for depth and Stanley depth of $I/J$ in terms of the lcm number. Using the splitting-variables technique, we provide an alternate proof of their result.

Both results are uniform in the data of the underlying structure. Our approach is based mainly on the inertia property of the counting functions of primes and prime ideals.

In previous work, we showed that for any graded ideal , then , for all , where is the initial degree of I and b is a suitable integer. In the present paper, using polarization, we extend Simon conjecture to any monomial ideal. As a consequence, if Simon conjecture holds, I is a monomial ideal generated in a single degree and all powers of I have linear quotients, then . This fact suggests that if I is an equigenerated monomial ideal with linear powers, then , for all . We verify this conjecture for monomial ideals with linear powers having , edge ideals with linear resolution, polymatroidal ideals, and Hibi ideals.

A study of $v$-number for some monomial ideals

Abstract:In this paper, we give formulas for $v$-number of edge ideals of some graphs like path, cycle, 1-clique sum of a path and a cycle, 1-clique sum of two cycles and join of two graphs. For an $\mathfrak{m}$-primary monomial ideal $I\subset S=K[x_1,\ldots,x_t]$, we provide an explicit expression of $v$-number of $I$, denoted by $v(I)$, and give an upper bound of $v(I)$ in terms of the degree of its generators. We show that for a monomial ideal $I$, $v(I^{n+1})$ is bounded above by a linear polynomial for large $n$ and for certain classes of monomial ideals, the upper bound is achieved for all $n\geq 1$. For $\mathfrak m$-primary monomial ideal $I$ we prove that $v(I)\leq$ reg$(S/I)$ and their difference can be arbitrarily large.
