Abstract:In this note we obtain defining equations of modular curves $X_0(2^{2n})$. The key ingredient is a recursive formula for certain generators of the function fields on $X_0(2^{2n})$.

Abstract:In the first part of this paper, we construct mod 2 elliptic genera on manifolds of dimensions 8k+1, 8k+2 by mod 2 index formulas of Dirac operators. They are given by mod 2 modular forms or mod 2 automorphic functions. We also obtain an integral formula for the mod 2 index of the Dirac operator. As a by-product we find topological obstructions to group actions. In the second part, we construct higher elliptic genera and prove some of their rigidity properties under group actions. In the third part we write down characteristic series for all Witten genera by Jacobi theta-functions. The modular property and transformation formulas of elliptic genera then follow easily. We shall also prove that Krichever's genera, which come from integrable systems, can be written as indices of twisted Dirac operators forSU-manifolds. Some general discussions about elliptic genera are given.

Abstract:We show that for any polynomial $F(X,Y_0,Y_1,Y_2) \in \mathbb{C}[X, Y_0, Y_1, Y_2]$, the equation $F(z,j(z),j'(z),j''(z))=0$ has a Zariski dense set of solutions in the hypersurface $F(X,Y_0,Y_1,Y_2)=0$, unless $F$ is in $\mathbb{C}[X]$ or it is divisible by $Y_0$, $Y_0-1728$, or $Y_1$. Our methods establish criteria for finding solutions to more general equations involving periodic functions. Furthermore, they produce a qualitative description of the distribution of these solutions.

Abstract:Given a binary quadratic polynomial $f(x_1,x_2)=\alpha x_1^2+\beta x_1x_2+\gamma x_2^2\in \mathbb {Z}[x_1,x_2]$, for every $c\in \mathbb Z$ and $n\ge 2$, we study the number of solutions $\mathrm {N}_J(f;c,n)$ of the congruence equation $f(x_1,x_2)\equiv c\bmod {n}$ in $(\mathbb {Z}/n\mathbb {Z})^2$ such that $x_i\in (\mathbb {Z}/n\mathbb {Z})^\times $ for $i\in J\subseteq \{1,2\}$.

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{F}\subset \mathbb{K}$ be fields with characteristic zero, $n$ be a positive integer and $\kappa\in \mathbb{K}$. In this paper, we determine those monomials $f\colon \mathbb{F}\to \mathbb{K}$ of degree $n$ for which \[ f(x^{2})= \kappa\cdot x^{n}f(x) \] holds for all $x\in \mathbb{F}$. We show that similar to the classical results, where additive functions were considered, the monomial functions in the equation can be represented with the aid of homomorphisms and higher-order derivations.

Abstract:Let $F(X)=X^{2^{2k}+2^k+1}$ be the power function over the finite field $\GF{2^{4k}}$ which is known as the Bracken-Leander function. In \cite{BCC10,BL10,CV20,Fu22,XY17}, it was proved that the number of solutions in $\GF{q^4}$ to the equation $F(X)+F(X+1)=b$ is in $\{0,2,4\}$ for any $b\in \GF{q^4}$ and the number of the $b$ giving $i$ solutions have been determined for every $i$. However, no paper provided a direct and complete method to solve such an equation, and this problem remained open. This article presents a direct technique to derive an explicit solution to that equation. The main result in \cite{BCC10,BL10,Fu22,XY17}, determining differential spectrum of $F(X)=X^{2^{2k}+2^k+1}$ over $\GF{2^{4k}}$, is re-derived simply from our results.

Abstract:The aim of this study is to find more Karatsuba-like formulae for a fixed set of moduli polynomials in GF(2)[x]. To this end, a theoretical framework is established. The authors first generalise the division algorithm, and then present a generalised definition of the remainder of integer division. Finally, a generalised Chinese remainder theorem is used to achieve their initial goal. As a by-product of the generalised remainder of integer division, the authors rediscover Montgomery's N-residue and present a systematic interpretation of definitions of Montgomery's multiplication and addition operations.

Abstract:This is the second in a series of papers where we combine the classical approach to exponential Diophantine equations (linear forms in logarithms, Thue equations, etc.) with a modular approach based on some of the ideas of the proof of Fermat's Last Theorem. In this paper we use a general and powerful new lower bound for linear forms in three logarithms, together with a combination of classical, elementary and substantially improved modular methods to solve completely the Lebesgue–Nagell equation x2 + D = yn, x, y integers, $n\geq 3$, for D in the range $1 \leq D \leq 100$.

Arithmetic Siegel-Weil formula on $\mathcal{X}_0(N)$: singular terms

Abstract:For arbitrary level $N$, we relate the generating series of codimension 2 special cycles on $\mathcal{X}_{0}(N)$ to the derivatives of a genus 2 Eisenstein series, especially the singular terms of both sides. On the analytic side, we use difference formulas of local densities to relate the singular Fourier coefficients of the genus 2 Eisenstein series to the nonsingular Fourier coefficients of a genus 1 Eisenstein series. On the geometric side, we study the reduction of cusps to compute the divisor class of the Hodge bundle and the heights of special divisors. When $N$ is square-free, this gives a different proof of the main results in the works of Du, Yang and Sankaran, Shi, and Yang.

Abstract:Modular polynomials are an important tool in many algorithms involving elliptic curves. In this article we investigate their generalization to the genus 2 case following pioneering work by Gaudry and Dupont. We prove various properties of these genus 2 modular polynomials and give an improved way to explicitly compute them.

Abstract:For a complex elliptic curve $E$ and a point $p$ of order $n$ on it, the images of the points $p_k=kp$ under the Weierstrass embedding of $E$ into $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^2$ are collinear if and only if the sum of indices is divisible by $n$. Thus, it provides a realization of a certain matroid. We study this matroid in detail and prove that its realization space is isomorphic (over $\mathbb{C}$) to the modular curve $X_1(n)$, provided $n\geq 10$, which also provides an integral model of $X_1(n)$. In the process, we find a connection to the classical Ceva and Böröczky examples of special point and line configurations. We also discuss the situation for smaller values of $n$.

Abstract:In this paper, we determine all tetraelliptic modular curves $X_1(N)$ over $\mathbb Q$, and find some tetraelliptic maps $\phi_N$ from $X_1(N)$ to elliptic curves for those tetraelliptic $X_1(N)$. Also we will construct $\phi_N$ explicitly as rational functions. Moreover, we will show that all $\phi_N$ we found are Galois and find elliptic curves with torsion subgroup $\mathbb Z/17\mathbb Z$ over cyclic quartic number fields by using the cyclic map $\phi_{17}$.

Abstract:We introduce an infinite family of Kronecker series twisted by characters. As an application, we give a closed formula for the sum of all Hecke eigenforms on ${\Gamma}_0(N) $ multiplied by their twisted period polynomials in terms of the product of those twisted Kronecker series, when N is square free. This extends an identity of Zagier among period polynomials, Hecke eigenforms and a quotient of Jacobi theta series.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the integer solutions of a family of Fermat‐type equations of signature (2,2n,n) , Cx2+qky2n=zn . We provide an algorithmically testable set of conditions which, if satisfied, imply the existence of a constant BC,q such that if n>BC,q , there are no solutions (x,y,z,n) of the equation. Our methods use the modular method for Diophantine equations, along with level lowering and Galois theory.

Abstract:The classical modular polynomials $\Phi_\ell(X,Y)$ give plane curve models for the modular curves $X_0(\ell)/\mathbb{Q}$ and have been extensively studied. In this article, we provide closed formulas for $\ell$ nontrivial coefficients of the classical modular polynomials $\Phi_\ell(X,Y)$ in terms of the Fourier coefficients of the modular invariant function $j(z)$ for a prime $\ell$. Our interest in the formulas were motivated by our conjectures on congruences modulo powers of the primes $2,3$ and $5$ satisfied by the coefficients of these polynomials. We deduce congruences from these formulas supporting the conjectures.
