Abstract:For arbitrary level $N$, we relate the generating series of codimension 2 special cycles on $\mathcal{X}_{0}(N)$ to the derivatives of a genus 2 Eisenstein series, especially the singular terms of both sides. On the analytic side, we use difference formulas of local densities to relate the singular Fourier coefficients of the genus 2 Eisenstein series to the nonsingular Fourier coefficients of a genus 1 Eisenstein series. On the geometric side, we study the reduction of cusps to compute the divisor class of the Hodge bundle and the heights of special divisors. When $N$ is square-free, this gives a different proof of the main results in the works of Du, Yang and Sankaran, Shi, and Yang.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the special terms in the arithmetic Siegel - Weil formula on the modular curve \(X_0(N)\). Specifically, the author studies the relationship between the special cycles on the modular curve \(X_0(N)\) and the derivatives of Eisenstein series of genus 2, especially the special terms in these relationships. ### Background of the Paper The classical Siegel - Weil formula links certain Siegel Eisenstein series with the arithmetic properties of quadratic forms, that is, it expresses the special values of these series through theta functions. Kudla initiated an influential program aiming to establish the arithmetic Siegel - Weil formula, which links certain Siegel Eisenstein series with arithmetic - geometric objects. ### Main Results 1. **Analytic Aspects**: - Using the difference formula of local densities, the special Fourier coefficients of the Eisenstein series of genus 2 are related to the non - special Fourier coefficients of the Eisenstein series of genus 1. - In particular, when the matrix \(T\) is a singular matrix of rank 1, the author studies in detail the relationships between these coefficients. 2. **Geometric Aspects**: - The irreducible components of the special fiber of the modular curve \(X_0(N)\) and their reductions at the cusp are studied. - The self - intersection number of the Hodge bundle and the height of the special divisor are calculated. ### Main Theorems - **Theorem 1.2.1**: For any positive integer \(N\), the generating sequence \(\phi_1\) is a non - holomorphic Siegel modular form of genus 1 and weight \(\frac{3}{2}\), whose values are in the one - dimensional arithmetic Chow group of \(X_0(N)\). - **Theorem 1.2.3**: For any positive integer \(N\), the generating sequence \(\phi_2\) is a non - holomorphic Siegel modular form of genus 2 and weight \(\frac{3}{2}\), whose values are in the two - dimensional arithmetic Chow group of \(X_0(N)\). Specifically, under the arithmetic degree mapping, \(\phi_2(z)\) can be expressed as: \[ \phi_2(z)=\frac{\psi(N)}{24}\cdot\frac{d}{ds}E(z, s,\Delta(N)^2)\big|_{s = 0} \] where \(\psi(N)=N\cdot\prod_{p\mid N}(1 + p^{-1})\). ### Proof Strategies - **Analytic Aspects**: - When the rank of the matrix \(T\) is 1, the special Fourier coefficients are related to the non - special Fourier coefficients of the Eisenstein series of lower genus through the difference formula of local densities. - When \(T = 0\), the special Fourier coefficients are directly calculated. - **Geometric Aspects**: - The vertical component of the Hodge bundle and its intersection pairing with the special divisor are calculated. - By studying the irreducible components of the special fiber of the modular curve \(X_0(N)\) and their reductions at the cusp, the self - intersection number of the Hodge bundle is calculated. ### Summary This paper studies in detail the arithmetic Siegel - Weil formula on the modular curve \(X_0(N)\) through analytic and geometric methods, and in particular, provides new proof and calculation methods when dealing with special terms. This provides an important theoretical basis for understanding the relationship between special cycles on modular curves and Eisenstein series.
