Abstract:For every genuine irreducible admissible smooth representation $\pi$ of the metaplectic group $\widetilde{{\rm Sp}}(2n)$ over a $p$-adic field, and every smooth oscillator representation $\omega_\psi$ of $\widetilde{{\rm Sp}}(2n)$, we prove that the tensor product $\pi\otimes\omega_\psi$ is multiplicity free as a smooth representation of the symplectic group ${\rm Sp}(2n)$. Similar results are proved for general linear groups and unitary groups.

Abstract:In the context of the Kuznetsov trace formula, we outline the theory of the Bessel functions on $GL(n)$ as a series of conjectures designed as a blueprint for the construction of Kuznetsov-type formulas with given ramification at infinity. We are able to prove one of the conjectures at full generality on $GL(n)$ and most of the conjectures in the particular case of the long Weyl element; as with previous papers, we give some unconditional results on Archimedean Whittaker functions, now on $GL(n)$ with arbitrary weight. We expect the heuristics here to apply at the level of real reductive groups. In an appendix, we make good progress toward series and integral representations of $GL(4)$ Bessel functions by proving several of the conjectures for $GL(4)$.

Abstract:We analyze more explicitly four sectors of 1/4 BPS geometries and 1/8 BPS geometries, corresponding to BPS states in N=4 SYM, constructed previously. These include the states with several SO(6) angular momenta as well as those with SO(4) AdS spins. We also discuss their relations to the dual gauge theory.

Abstract:We reconsider a class of heterotic string theories studied in 1989, based on tensor products of N=2 minimal models with asymmetric simple current invariants. We extend this analysis from (2,2) and (1,2) spectra to (0,2) spectra with SO(10) broken to the Standard Model. In the latter case the spectrum must contain fractionally charged particles. We find that in nearly all cases at least some of them are massless. However, we identify a large subclass where the fractional charges are at worst half-integer, and often vector-like. The number of families is very often reduced in comparison to the 1989 results, but there are no new tensor combinations yielding three families. All tensor combinations turn out to fall into two classes: those where the number of families is always divisible by three, and those where it is never divisible by three. We find an empirical rule to determine the class, which appears to extend beyond minimal N=2 tensor products. We observe that distributions of physical quantities such as the number of families, singlets and mirrors have an interesting tendency towards smaller values as the gauge groups approaches the Standard Model. We compare our results with an analogous class of free fermionic models. This displays similar features, but with less resolution. Finally we present a complete scan of the three family models based on the triply-exceptional combination (1,16∗,16∗,16∗) identified originally by Gepner. We find 1220 distinct three family spectra in this case, forming 610 mirror pairs. About half of them have the gauge group SU(3)×SU(2)L×SU(2)R×U(1)5, the theoretical minimum, and many others are trinification models.

A universal Euler system for GSp(4)

Abstract:In our earlier work with Christopher Skinner (J. Eur. Math. Soc 24 (2022), no. 2; DOI <a class="link-https link-external" data-doi="10.4171/JEMS/1124;" href="https://doi.org/10.4171/JEMS/1124%3B" rel="external noopener nofollow">https://doi.org/10.4171/JEMS/1124%3B</a> Arxiv <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1706.00201" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1706.00201">1706.00201</a>), we constructed Euler systems for the 4-dimensional spin Galois representations corresponding to automorphic forms for GSp(4). This construction depended on various arbitrary choices of local test data. In this paper, we use multiplicity-one results for smooth representations to determine how these Euler system classes depend on the choice of test data, showing that all of these classes lie in a 1-dimensional space and are explicit multiples (given by local zeta-integrals) of a "universal" class independent of the choice of test data.

Abstract:We study the geometric description of BPS states in supersymmetric theories with eight supercharges in terms of geodesic networks on suitable spectral curves. We lift and extend several constructions of Gaiotto-Moore-Neitzke from gauge theory to local Calabi-Yau threefolds and related models. The differential is multi-valued on the covering curve and features a new type of logarithmic singularity in order to account for D0-branes and non-compact D4-branes, respectively. We describe local rules for the three-way junctions of BPS trajectories relative to a particular framing of the curve. We reproduce BPS quivers of local geometries and illustrate the wall-crossing of finite-mass bound states in several new examples. We describe first steps toward understanding the spectrum of framed BPS states in terms of such "exponential networks."

Almost Hermitian structures on moduli spaces of non-Abelian monopoles and applications to the topology of symplectic four-manifolds

Abstract:This work is a sequel to our previous monograph <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2010.15789" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2010.15789">arXiv:2010.15789</a> (to appear in AMS Memoirs), where we initiated our program to prove that the Bogomolov-Miyaoka-Yau inequality holds for closed, symplectic four-manifolds and, more generally, for closed, smooth four-manifolds with a Seiberg-Witten basic class. This inequality was first proved for compact, complex surfaces of general type by Miyaoka (1977) and Yau (1978). Our approach uses a version of Morse theory for a natural Hamiltonian, the square of the $L^2$ norm of the coupled spinors, for the circle action on the moduli space of non-Abelian monopoles over a closed four-manifold. It has the aim of proving the existence of a projectively anti-self-dual connection on a rank-two Hermitian vector bundle over a blow-up of the four-manifold, where the first Pontrjagin number of the vector bundle is negative and greater than or equal to minus the Euler characteristic of the blown-up four-manifold. Our Morse theory argument relies on positivity of virtual Morse-Bott indices for critical points of Hamiltonians for circle actions on complex analytic spaces (or real analytic spaces that, locally, are sufficiently well-approximated by complex analytic model spaces), as developed by the first author in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2206.14710" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2206.14710">arXiv:2206.14710</a>. In our application to the moduli space of non-Abelian monopoles, the critical points are fixed points of the circle action and thus represented by Seiberg-Witten monopoles.

Abstract:We compute the real and complex Buchstaber numbers of an arbitrary Bier sphere. In dimension two, we identify all the 13 different combinatorial types of Bier spheres and show that 11 of them are nerve complexes of nestohedra, while the remaining two are merely nerve complexes of generalized permutohedra: one of them is a non-flag polytope and the other one is a 2-truncated cube. As an application of our results, we construct a regular normal fan for each of those 13 Delzant polytopes, compute cohomology rings of the corresponding nonsingular projective toric varieties and discuss orientability of the corresponding small covers.

Abstract:In this paper we develop the basic homotopy theory of G-symmetric spectra (that is, symmetric spectra with a G-action) for a finite group G, as a model for equivariant stable homotopy with respect to a G-set universe. This model lies in between Mandell's equivariant symmetric spectra and the G-orthogonal spectra of Mandell and May and is Quillen equivalent to the two. We further discuss equivariant semistability, construct model structures on module, algebra and commutative algebra categories and describe the homotopical properties of the multiplicative norm in this context.

Abstract:To the integral symplectic group Sp(2g,Z) we associate two posets of which we prove that they have the Cohen-Macaulay property. As an application we show that the locus of marked decomposable principally polarized abelian varieties in the Siegel space of genus g has the homotopy type of a bouquet of (g-2)-spheres. This, in turn, implies that the rational homology of moduli space of (unmarked) principal polarized abelian varieties of genus g modulo the decomposable ones vanishes in degree g-2 or lower. Another application is an improved stability range for the homology of the symplectic groups over Euclidean rings. But the original motivation comes from envisaged applications to the homology of groups of Torelli type. The proof of our main result rests on a refined nerve theorem for posets that may have an interest in its own right.

Let ${\rm Si}(\mathfrak{p}^2)\subset G$ denote the Siegel congruence subgroup of level $\mathfrak{p}^2$ and $u\in N_G({\rm Si}(\mathfrak{p}^2))$ the Atkin-Lehner element. We compute the dimension of the space of ${\rm Si}(\mathfrak{p}^2)$-fixed vectors in $V$ as well as the signatures of the involutions $\pi(u)$ acting on these spaces.

Bessel potentials and Green functions on pseudo-Euclidean spaces

Abstract:We review properties of Bessel potentials, that is, inverse Fourier transforms of (regularizations of) $\frac{1}{(m^2+p^2)^{\frac{\mu}{2}}}$ on a pseudoEuclidean space with signature $(q,d-q)$. We are mostly interested in the Lorentzian signature $(1,d-1)$, and the case $\mu=2$, related to the Klein-Gordon equation $(-\Box+m^2)f=0$. We analyze properties of various ``two-point functions'', which play an important role in Quantum Field Theory, such as the retarded/advanced propagators or Feynman/antiFeynman propagators. We consistently use hypergeometric functions instead of Bessel functions, which makes most formulas much more transparent. We pay attention to distributional properties of various Bessel potentials. We include in our analysis the ``tachyonic case'', corresponding to the ``wrong'' sign in the Klein-Gordon equation.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a simple Lie Group with finite center, and let $K\subset G$ be a maximal compact subgroup. We say that $G$ is a Lie group of tube type if $G/K$ is a hermitian symmetric space of tube type. For such a Lie group $G$, we can find a parabolic subgroup $P=MAN$, with given Langlands decomposition, such that $N$ is abelian, and $N$ admits a generic character with compact stabilizer. We will call any parabolic subgroup $P$ satisfying this properties a Siegel parabolic. Let $(\pi,V)$ be an admissible, smooth, Fréchet representation of a Lie group of tube type $G$, and let $P \subset G$ be a Siegel parabolic subgroup. If $\chi$ is a generic character of $N$, let $Wh_{\chi}(V)={\lambda:V \longrightarrow \mathbb{C} | \lambda(\pi(n)v)=\chi(n)v}$ be the space of Bessel models of $V$. After describing the classification of all the simple Lie groups of tube type, we will give a characterization of the space of Bessel models of an induced representation. As a corollary of this characterization we obtain a local multiplicity one theorem for the space of Bessel models of an irreducible representation of $G$. As an application of this results we calculate the Bessel-Plancherel measure of a Lie group of tube type, $L^2(N\backslash G;\chi)$, where $\chi$ is a generic character of $N$. Then we use Howe's theory of dual pairs to show that the Plancherel measure of the space $L^2(O(p-r,q-s)\backslash O(p,q))$ is the pullback, under the $\Theta$ lift, of the Bessel-Plancherel measure $L^2(N\backslash Sp(m,\mathbb{R});\chi)$, where $m=r+s$ and $\chi$ is a generic character that depends on $r$ and $s$.

Supersymmetric Grassmannian Sigma Models in Gross-Neveu Formalism

Abstract:We revisit the classical aspects of $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ supersymmetric sigma models with Hermitian symmetric target spaces, using the so-called Gross-Neveu (first-order GLSM) formalism. We reformulate these models for complex Grassmannians in terms of simple supersymmetric Lagrangians with polynomial interactions. For maximal isotropic Grassmannians we propose two types of equivalent Lagrangians, which make either supersymmetry or the geometry of target space manifest. These reformulations can be seen as current-current deformations of curved $\beta \gamma$ systems. The $\mathsf{CP}^{1}$ supersymmetric sigma model is our prototypical example.

Abstract:This is the final paper in the series of five, in which we prove the geometric Langlands conjecture (GLC). We conclude the proof of GLC by showing that there exists a unique (up to tensoring up by a vector space) Hecke eigensheaf corresponding to an irreducible local system (hence, the title of the paper). We achieve this by analyzing the geometry of the stack of local systems.

Abstract:This paper provides a geometric description for Lie--Hamilton systems on $\mathbb{R}^2$ with locally transitive Vessiot--Guldberg Lie algebras through two types of geometric models. The first one is the restriction of a class of Lie--Hamilton systems on the dual of a Lie algebra to even-dimensional symplectic leaves relative to the Kirillov-Kostant-Souriau bracket. The second is a projection onto a quotient space of an automorphic Lie--Hamilton system relative to a naturally defined Poisson structure or, more generally, an automorphic Lie system with a compatible bivector field. These models give rise to a natural framework for the analysis of Lie--Hamilton systems on $\mathbb{R}^2$ while retrieving known results in a natural manner. Our methods may be extended to study Lie--Hamilton systems on higher-dimensional manifolds and provide new approaches to Lie systems admitting compatible geometric structures.
