Abstract: Let F be an automorphism of C^k which has a fixed point. It is well known that the basin of attraction is biholomorphically equivalent to C^k. We will show that the basin of attraction of a sequence of automorphisms is also biholomorphic to C^k if all the automorphisms are small perturbations of the original map F.

Abstract:It has been conjectured that every stable manifold arising from a holomorphic automorphism, that acts hyperbolically on a compact invariant set, is biholomorphic to complex Euclidean space. Such stable manifolds are known to be biholomorphic to the basin of a uniformly attracting family of holomorphic maps. It is shown that the basin of a uniformly attracting family of holomorphic maps is biholomorphic to complex Euclidean space and this resolves the conjecture on the biholomorphism type of such stable manifolds affirmatively.

Geometry of Complex Bounded Domains with Finite-Volume Quotients

Abstract:We first show that for a bounded pseudoconvex domain with a manifold quotient of finite-volume in the sense of Kahler-Einstein measure, the identity component of the automorphism group of this domain is semi-simple without compact factors. This partially answers an open question in [Fra95]. Then we apply this result in different settings to solve several open problems, for examples, (1). We prove that the automorphism group of the Griffiths domain [Gri71] in ℂ^2 is discrete. This gives a complete answer to an open question raised four decades ago. (2). We show that for a contractible HHR/USq complex manifold D with a finite-volume manifold quotient M, if D contains a one-parameter group of holomorphic automorphisms and the fundamental group of M is irreducible, then D is biholomorphic to a bounded symmetric domain. This theorem can be viewed as a finite-volume version of Nadel-Frankel's solution for the Kahzdan conjecture, which has been open for years. (3). We show that for a bounded convex domain D⊂ℂ^n of C^2-smooth boundary, if D has a finite-volume manifold quotient with an irreducible fundamental group, then D is biholomorphic to the unit ball in ℂ^n, which partially solves an old conjecture of Yau. For (2) and (3) above, if the complex dimension is equal to 2, more refined results will be provided.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the precise behavior of orbits inside attracting basins of rational functions on $\mathbb P^1$ and entire functions $f$ in $\mathbb{C}$. Let $R(z)$ be a rational function on $\mathbb P^1$, $\mathcal {A}(p)$ be the basin of attraction of an attracting fixed point $p$ of $R$, and $\Omega_i$ $ (i=1, 2, \cdots)$ be the connected components of $\mathcal{A}(p)$, and $\Omega_1$ contains $p.$ Let $p_0\in\Omega_1$ be close to $p.$ If at least one $\Omega_i$ is not simply connected, then there exists a constant $C$ so that for any $z_0\in \Omega_i$, there is a point $q\in \cup_k R^{-k}(p_0), k\geq0$ so that the Kobayashi distance $d_{\Omega_i}(z_0, q)\leq C.$ If all $\Omega_i$ are simply connected, then the result is the same as for polynomials and is treated in an earlier paper. For entire functions $f$, we generally can not have similar results as for rational functions. However, if $f$ has finitely many critical points, then similar results hold.

Abstract:In the paper "Infinite Product Represenations for Kernels and Iterations of Functions", a technique was developed which allows for the construction of a reproducing kernel Hilbert space on basins of attraction containing $0$. When the right conditions are met, an explicit orthonormal basis can be constructed using a particular class of operators. It is natural then to consider how the orthonormal basis changes as we let the basin of attraction vary. We will consider this question for the basins of attraction containing $0$ of the family of polynomials $\mathcal{F} = \{az^{2^{n+2}}-2az^{2^{n+1}}:a\neq0\}$, where $n\in\mathbb{N}$.

Abstract: In this article, we study the properties of conjugacies between polynomial basins. For any conjugacy, there is a quasiconformal conjugacy in the same homotopy class minimizing the dilatation. We compute the precise value of the minimal dilatation. The quasiconformal conjugacy minimizing the dilatation is not unique in general. We give a necessary and sufficient condition when the extremal map is unique.

Abstract:We construct various novel and elementary examples of dynamics with metric attractors that have intermingled basins. A main ingredient is the introduction of random walks along orbits of a given dynamical system. We develop theory for it and use it in particular to provide examples of thick metric attractors with intermingled basins.

Abstract:Let $f$ be a holomorphic endomorphism of $\mathbb P^k$ of degree $d.$ For each quasi-attractor of $f$ we construct a finite set of currents with attractive behaviors. To every such an attracting current is associated an equilibrium measure which allows for a systematic ergodic theoretical approach in the study of quasi-attractors of $\mathbb P^k.$ As a consequence, we deduce that there exist at most countably many quasi-attractors, each one with topological entropy equal to a multiple of $\log d.$ We also show that the study of these analytic objects can initiate a bifurcation theory for attracting sets.

Abstract: Let $(K_1,\ldots,K_n)$ be a Cantor type graph-directed attractors in $\mathbb{R}^d$. By creating an auxiliary graph, we provide an effective criterion of whether $K_i\cap K_j$ is empty for every pair of $1\leq i,j\leq n$. Moreover, the emptiness can be checked by examining only a finite number of the attractor's geometric approximations. The method is also applicable for more general graph-directed systems. As an application, we are able to determine the connectedness of all $d$-dimensional generalized Sierpi\'nski sponges of which the corresponding IFSs are allowed to have rotational and reflectional components.
Dimension Paradox of Irrationally Indifferent Attractors

Abstract:In this paper we study the geometry of the attractors of holomorphic maps with an irrationally indifferent fixed point. We prove that for an open set of such holomorphic systems, the local attractor at the fixed point has Hausdorff dimension two, provided the asymptotic rotation at the fixed point is of sufficiently high type and does not belong to Herman numbers. As an immediate corollary, the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set of any such rational map with a Cremer fixed point is equal to two. Moreover, we show that for a class of asymptotic rotation numbers, the attractor satisfies Karpinska's dimension paradox. That is, the the set of end points of the attractor has dimension two, but without those end points, the dimension drops to one.
Chaotic dynamics at the boundary of a basin of attraction via non-transversal intersections for a non-global smooth diffeomorphism

Abstract:In this paper we give analytic proofs of the existence of transversal homoclinic points for a family of non-globally smooth diffeomorphisms having the origin as a fixed point which come out as a truncated map governing the local dynamics near a critical period three cycle associated to the Secant map. Using Moser's version of Birkhoff-Smale's Theorem, we prove that the boundary of the basin of attraction of the origin contains a Cantor-like invariant subset such that the restricted dynamics to it is conjugate to the full shift of $N$-symbols for any integer $N\ge 2$ or infinity.

Abstract:We prove that a holomorphic fixed point germ in two complex variables, tangent to the identity, and whose only characteristic direction is non-degenerate, has a domain of attraction on which the map is conjugate to a translation. In the case of a global automorphism, the corresponding domain of attraction is a Fatou-Bieberbach domain.

Abstract:We describe a new notation for finite transformations. This attractor-cycle notation extends the orbit-cycle notation for permutations and builds upon existing transformation notations. How the basins of attraction of a finite transformation flow into permuted orbit cycles is visible from the notation. It gives insight into the structure of transformations and reduces the length of expressions without increasing the number of types of symbols.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of a superattracting skew product $f$ on the attracting basin. As the first strategy, we find out forward $f$-invariant wedge-shaped regions in the basin, on some of which $f$ is conjugate to monomial maps, and consider whether the unions of all the preimages of the regions coincide with the basin. As the second strategy, we show the existence and properties of several kinds of plurisubharmonic functions of $f$, the main functions of which are induced from the Böttcher coordinates, and investigate the asymptotic behavior of the functions toward the boundaries of the unions. Consequently, we obtain a plurisubharmonic function on the complement of specific fibers in the basin, which is continuous and pluriharmonic on open and dense subsets of the complement and describes an certain weighted vertical dynamics well.

Abstract:The dynamics of a dissipative and area contracting planar homeomorphism were described in terms of the attractor. This was a subset of the plane defined as the maximal compact invariant set. We proved that the coexistence of two fixed points and an -cycle produced some topological complexity: the attractor cannot be arcwise connected. The proofs were based on the theory of prime ends.

Abstract:We consider piecewise $C^2$ non-flat maps of the interval and show that, for Lebesgue almost every point, its omega-limit set is either a periodic orbit, a cycle of intervals or the closure of the orbits of a subset of the critical points. In particular, every piecewise $C^2$ non-flat map of the interval displays only a finite number of non-periodic attractors.

Abstract:The basin of attraction is the set of initial points that will eventually converge to some attracting set. Its knowledge is important in understanding the dynamical behavior of a given dynamical system of interest. In this work, we address the problem of reconstructing the basins of attraction of a multistable system, using only labeled data. To this end, we view this problem as a classification task and use a deep neural network as a classifier for predicting the attractor that corresponds to any given initial condition. Additionally, we provide a method for obtaining an approximation of the basin boundary of the underlying system, using the trained classification model. Finally, we provide evidence relating the complexity of the structure of the basins of attraction with the quality of the obtained reconstructions, via the concept of basin entropy. We demonstrate the application of the proposed method on the Lorenz system in a bistable regime.
