Abstract:We construct various novel and elementary examples of dynamics with metric attractors that have intermingled basins. A main ingredient is the introduction of random walks along orbits of a given dynamical system. We develop theory for it and use it in particular to provide examples of thick metric attractors with intermingled basins.

Abstract:Given a 4-manifold, we build a non-empty C1-open set of vector flelds having a (chain transitive) attractor containing singularities of difierent indices. Then, we start the study of the hyperbolic properties of such kind of robust singular attractors. 1.1 Motivations The dynamic of ∞ows is very related with the dynamics of difieomorphisms, and their studies followed almost parallel ways. From many points of view, the dynamics of vector flelds in dimension n looks like difieomorphisms in dimension n ¡ 1. However, there is a phenomenon which is really speciflc to vector flelds: the existence of singularities (zero of the vector fleld). This speciflcity is specially important when the singularities are not isolated from the rest of the dynamics, that is, when there are regular recurrent orbits accumulating the singularities. The flrst example with this behavior was announced by Lorenz in (25), exhibiting simple family of algebraic vector flelds inR3 with an experimental evidence that the orbits tend to some compact set (called the Lorenz attractor) containing regular periodic orbits and a singularity. In (1), (20) and (21) the authors give a geometric construction of C1-open sets of vector flelds on 3-manifolds, having a topological transitive attractor containing periodic orbits and one singularity.
Basin of attraction organization in infinite-dimensional delayed systems: a stochastic basin entropy approach

Abstract:The Mackey-Glass system is a paradigmatic example of a delayed model whose dynamics is particularly complex due to, among other factors, its multistability involving the coexistence of many periodic and chaotic attractors. The prediction of the long-term dynamics is especially challenging in these systems, where the dimensionality is infinite and initial conditions must be specified as a function in a finite time interval. In this paper we extend the recently proposed basin entropy to randomly sample arbitrarily high-dimensional spaces. By complementing this stochastic approach with the basin fraction of the attractors in the initial conditions space we can understand the structure of the basins of attraction and how they are intermixed. The results reported here allow us to quantify the predictability giving us an idea about the long-term evolution of trajectories as a function of the initial conditions. The tools employed can result very useful in the study of complex systems of infinite dimension.

Abstract:Dynamical behavior of a class of nonhyperbolic discrete systems are considered. These systems are generated by iterating planar maps that are piecewise isometries, and they arise as mathematical models for signal processing, digital filters and modulator dynamics. Planar piecewise isometries may be discontinuous and/or non-invertible. First, the authors consider attraction caused by discontinuity in planar piecewise isometries. Namely, they have shown that the maximal invariant set can induce an invariant measure, and all the Lyapunov exponents are zero under this invariant measure. Second, they discuss various definitions of global attractors and their existence and uniqueness for discontinuous maps, and introduce a few examples in which the attractors are created due to discontinuity. Third, they study the relation between invariance and invertibility for various nonhyperbolic maps, and finally they investigate decomposability of global attractors for certain nonhyperbolic systems.

Abstract:On every compact 3-manifold, we build a non-empty open set $\cU$ of $\Diff^1(M)$ such that, for every $r\geq 1$, every $C^r$-generic diffeomorphism $f\in\cU\cap \Diff^r(M)$ has no topological attractors. On higher dimensional manifolds, one may require that $f$ has neither topological attractors nor topological repellers. Our examples have finitely many quasi attractors. For flows, we may require that these quasi attractors contain singular points. Finally we discuss alternative definitions of attractors which may be better adapted to generic dynamics.

Abstract:We prove that if a smooth vector field $F$ of $S^3$ generates a sufficiently complicated heteroclinic knot, the flow also generates infinitely many periodic orbits, which persist under smooth perturbations which preserve the heteroclinic knot. Consequentially, we then associate a Template with the flow dynamics - regardless of whether $F$ satisfies any hyperbolicity condition or not. In addition, inspired by the Thurston-Nielsen Classification Theorem, we also conclude topological criteria for the existence of chaotic dynamics for three-dimensional flows - which we apply to study both the Rössler and Lorenz attractors.

Abstract:We prove the existence of a compact random attractor for the stochastic Benjamin-Bona-Mahony Equation defined on an unbounded domain. This random attractor is invariant and attracts every pulled-back tempered random set under the forward flow. The asymptotic compactness of the random dynamical system is established by a tail-estimates method, which shows that the solutions are uniformly asymptotically small when space and time variables approach infinity.

Abstract:We develop a new and general method to prove the existence of the random attractor (strong attractor) for the primitive equations (PEs) of large-scale ocean and atmosphere dynamics under non-periodic boundary conditions and driven by infinite-dimensional additive fractional Wiener processes. In contrast to our new method, the common method, compact Sobolev embedding theorem, is to obtain the time-uniform a priori estimates in some Sobolev space whose regularity is higher than the solution space. But this method can not be applied to the 3D stochastic PEs with the non-periodic boundary conditions. Therefore, the existence of universal attractor (weak attractor) was established in previous works (see [15,16]). The main idea of our method is that we first derive that P -almost surely the solution operator of stochastic PEs is compact. Then we construct a compact absorbing set by virtue of the compact property of the solution operator and the existence of a absorbing set. We should point out that our method has some advantages over the common method of using compact Sobolev embedding theorem, i.e., using our method we only need to obtain time-uniform a priori estimates in the solution space to prove the existence of random attractor for the corresponding stochastic system, while the common method need to establish time-uniform a priori estimates in a more regular functional space than the solution space. Take the stochastic PEs for example, as the unique strong solution to the stochastic PEs belongs to C ( [ 0 , T ] ; ( H 1 ( ℧ ) ) 3 ) , in view of our method, we only need to obtain the time-uniform a priori estimates in the solution space ( H 1 ( ℧ ) ) 3 to prove the existence of random attractor for this stochastic system, while the common method need to establish time-uniform a priori estimates for the solution in the functional space ( H 2 ( ℧ ) ) 3 . However, time-uniform a priori estimates in ( H 2 ( ℧ ) ) 3 for the solution to stochastic PEs are too difficult to be established. The present work provides a general way for proving the existence of random attractor for common classes of dissipative stochastic partial differential equations driven by Wiener noises, fractional noises and even jump noises. In a forth coming paper, using this new method we [46] prove the existence of random attractor for the stochastic nematic liquid crystals equations. This is the first result about the long-time behavior of stochastic nematic liquid crystals equations.

Abstract:We introduce random towers to study almost sure rates of correlation decay for random partially hyperbolic attractors. Using this framework, we obtain abstract results on almost sure exponential, stretched exponential and polynomial correlation decay rates. We then apply our results to small random perturbations of Axiom A attractors, small perturbations of derived from Anosov partially hyperbolic systems and to solenoidal attractors with random intermittency.

Abstract:The paper deals with topical issues of modern mathematical theory of dynamical chaos and its applications. At present, it is customary to assume that dynamical chaos in finitedimensional smooth systems can exist in three different forms. This is dissipative chaos, the mathematical image of which is a strange attractor; conservative chaos, for which the entire phase space is a large "chaotic sea" with randomly spaced elliptical islands inside it; and mixed dynamics, characterized by the principal inseparability in the phase space of attractors, repellers and conservative elements of dynamics. In the present paper (which opens a cycle of three our papers), elements of the theory of pseudo-hyperbolic attractors of multidimensional maps are presented. Such attractors, as well as hyperbolic ones, are genuine strange attractors, but they allow the existence of homoclinic tangencies. We give a mathematical definition of a pseudo-hyperbolic attractor for the case of multidimensional maps, from which we derive the necessary conditions for its existence in the three-dimensional case, formulated using the Lyapunov exponents. We also describe some phenomenological scenarios for the appearance of pseudo-hyperbolic attractors of various types in one-parameter families of three-dimensional diffeomorphisms, we propose new methods for studying such attractors (in particular, a method of saddle charts and a modified method of Lyapunov diagrams). We consider also three-dimensional generalized Henon maps as examples.

Abstract:This paper presents a new three-dimensional chaotic system with a nonlinear term. More interesting is that the system can produce different types of coexisting attractors under one sets of fixed model parameters, which include point attractor, bursting orbit, three kinds of period orbits, and two kinds of chaotic orbits. At the same time, the coexisting attractors have nested structure. In addition, riddled basins are observed on local attraction basins, which indicate that the dynamical behaviors of proposed system are extremely sensitive to the initial conditions. Finally, by setting different initial condition, the circuit can generate multitudinous coexisting attractors. The circuit implementation in Pspice supports furtherly numerical analyses and validates the mathematical model.

Abstract:Fibonacci unimodal maps can have a wild Cantor attractor, and hence be Lebesgue dissipative, depending on the order of the critical point. We present a one-parameter family $f_\lambda$ of countably piecewise linear unimodal Fibonacci maps in order to study the thermodynamic formalism of dynamics where dissipativity of Lebesgue (and conformal) measure is responsible for phase transitions. We show that for the potential $\phi_t = -t\log|f'_\lambda|$, there is a unique phase transition at some $t_1 \le 1$, and the pressure $P(\phi_t)$ is analytic (with unique equilibrium state) elsewhere. The pressure is majorised by a non-analytic $C^\infty$ curve (with all derivatives equal to 0 at $t_1 < 1$) at the emergence of a wild attractor, whereas the phase transition at $t_1 = 1$ can be of any finite order for those $\lambda$ for which $f_\lambda$ is Lebesgue conservative. We also obtain results on the existence of conformal measures and equilibrium states, as well as the hyperbolic dimension and the dimension of the basin of $\omega(c)$.

Abstract:We develop the theory of mean random attractors of nonautonomous mean random dynamical systems proposed by Wang (J. Dynam. Differ. Equ., Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., J. Differ. Equ., 2019) in a general setting. Two types of enhanced mean random attractors are introduced by improving the weak compactness and weak attraction in a space of product of finitely many Bochner spaces uniformly over some infinite time-intervals. Then we establish some theoretical results for the existence, topology structures and relations of these enhanced mean random attractors by carefully analyzing the characters and properties of enhanced -limit sets under the theory of weak topology. Our theoretical results are expected to be applied to many types of stochastic models. In particular, we apply these general results to a class of locally monotone and generally coercive stochastic PDEs, a fractional stochastic reaction–diffusion equation defined on , and a stochastic Schrödinger lattice system with a delay diffusion term defined on .

Abstract:We prove that every $C^1$ generic three-dimensional flow has either infinitely many sinks, or, infinitely many hyperbolic or singular-hyperbolic attractors whose basins form a full Lebesgue measure set. We also prove in the orientable case that the set of accumulation points of the sinks of a $C^1$ generic three-dimensional flow has no dominated splitting with respect to the linear Poincaré flow. As a corollary we obtain that every three-dimensional flow can be $C^1$ approximated by flows with homoclinic tangencies or by singular-Axiom A flows.

Abstract:A bi-spatial random attractor is obtained for the stochastic FitzHugh-Nagumo systems on unbounded thin domains when the initial space is $L^2\times L^2$ and the terminate space is $L^p\times L^2$. Furthermore, we establish the upper semi-continuity of attractors under the $p$-norm when a family of $(n+1)$-dimensional thin domains degenerates into a $n$-dimensional unbounded domain.

Abstract:Very little research is available in the field of sub-quadratic chaotic systems. This note reports a new 3D sub-quadratic Lorenz-like system: $${\dot{x}}=a(y - x)$$ , $${\dot{y}}=c\root 3 \of {x} - \root 3 \of {x}z$$ , $${\dot{z}}= -bz + \root 3 \of {x}y$$ . Except for the rich dynamics, i.e., generic and degenerate pitchfork bifurcation, first integral, invariant algebraic surface, ultimate bounded set, singularly degenerate heteroclinic cycle with nearby chaotic attractor, and existence of a pair of heteroclinic orbits, etc., this proposed system gives birth to Lorenz-like chaotic attractors coexisting the unstable origin and two stable node-foci in a broad range of the parameter c and thus hidden attractors are coined, which verifies the guess that the decrease of powers of some variable states may widen the ranges of some parameters for which hidden attractors exist. This may not only provide a new method to detect hidden Lorenz-like attractors, but also pose an interesting problem that the existence of hidden attractors can be determined by the degrees of the variables of the studied systems.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the asymptotic dynamics of the stochastic viscous coupled Camassa-Holm equation with periodic boundary condition. We investigate the existence of a random attractor for the dynamical system associated with the equation. The random attractor is invariant and attracts every pull-back tempered random set under the forward flow. We establish the asymptotic compactness of the random dynamical system by compactness of embedding of Sobolev space.
Wild attractors for Fibonacci maps

Abstract:Existence of wild attractors -- attractors whose basin has a positive Lebesgue measure but is not a residual set -- has been one of central themes in one-dimensional dynamics. It has been demonstrated by H. Bruin et al. that Fibonacci maps with a sufficiently flat critical point admit a wild attractor. We propose a constructive trichotomy that describes possible scenarios for the Lebesgue measure of the Fibonacci attractor based on a computable criterion. We use this criterion, together with a computer-assisted proof of existence of a Fibonacci renormalization $2$-cycle for non-integer critical degrees, to demonstrate that Fibonacci maps do not have a wild attractor when the degree of the critical point is $d=3.8$ (and, conjecturally, for $2< d \le 3.8$), and do admit it when $d=5.1$ (and, conjecturally, for $d \ge 5.1$).

Abstract:A basin of attraction represents the set of initial conditions leading to a specific asymptotic state of a given dynamical system. Here, we provide a classification of the most common basins found in nonlinear dynamics with the help of the basin entropy. We have also found interesting connections between the basin entropy and other measures used to characterize the unpredictability associated to the basins of attraction, such as the uncertainty exponent, the lacunarity or other different parameters related to the Wada property.

Abstract:The dynamics of a dissipative and area contracting planar homeomorphism were described in terms of the attractor. This was a subset of the plane defined as the maximal compact invariant set. We proved that the coexistence of two fixed points and an -cycle produced some topological complexity: the attractor cannot be arcwise connected. The proofs were based on the theory of prime ends.
