Abstract:We prove that every $C^1$ generic three-dimensional flow has either infinitely many sinks, or, infinitely many hyperbolic or singular-hyperbolic attractors whose basins form a full Lebesgue measure set. We also prove in the orientable case that the set of accumulation points of the sinks of a $C^1$ generic three-dimensional flow has no dominated splitting with respect to the linear Poincaré flow. As a corollary we obtain that every three-dimensional flow can be $C^1$ approximated by flows with homoclinic tangencies or by singular-Axiom A flows.

Abstract:In this paper we establish the existence and uniqueness of global solutions (in time), as well as the existence, regularity and stability (upper semicontinuity) of the attractor for the semigroup generated by the solutions of a two-dimensional nonlinear hyperbolic-parabolic coupled system with fractional Laplacian. In addition, we also obtain the existence of an exponential attractor and show that this attractor has a finite fractal dimension in a space containing the phase space of the dynamical system.

Abstract:In hyperbolic dynamics, a well-known result is that every hyperbolic attracting set, have a finite pseudo-orbit tracing property (FPOTP). It's natural to wonder if this result is maintained in the sectional-hyperbolic dynamics; Komuro in [Lorenz attractors do not have the pseudo-orbit tracing property], provides a negative answer for this question, by proving that the geometric Lorenz Attractor doesn't have a FPOTP. In this paper, we generalized the result of Komuro, we prove that every codimension one sectional-hyperbolic attractor set with a unique singularity Lorenz-like, which is of boundary-type, does not have FPOTP.

Abstract:The set of nonzero external forces for which the zero function is in the global attractor of the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations is shown to be meagre in a Frechet topology. A criterion in terms of a Taylor expansion in complex time is used to characterize the forces in this set. This leads to several relations between certain Gevrey subclasses of C-infinity and a new upper bound for a Gevrey norm of solutions in the attractor, valid in the strip of analyticity in time.
Equilibrium states for the classical Lorenz attractor and sectional-hyperbolic attractors in higher dimensions

Abstract:It has long been conjectured that the classical Lorenz attractor supports a unique measure of maximal entropy. In this article, we give a positive answer to this conjecture and its higher-dimensional counterpart by considering the uniqueness of equilibrium states for Hölder continuous functions on a sectional-hyperbolic attractor $\Lambda$. We prove that in a $C^1$-open and dense family of vector fields (including the classical Lorenz attractor), if the point masses at singularities are not equilibrium states, then there exists a unique equilibrium state supported on $\Lambda$. In particular, there exists a unique measure of maximal entropy for the flow $X|_\Lambda$.

Contributions to the Theory of Asymptotically Sectional Hyperbolic Flows

Abstract:In this paper, we make several contributions to the theory of asymptotically sectional-hyperbolic (ASH) flows. First, we prove that every star ASH attractor for a $C^2$ vector field is, in fact, sectional-hyperbolic (SH). Second, we establish that all ASH attractors exhibit the property of entropy flexibility. Additionally, we show that any ASH attractor for three-dimensional vector fields is entropy-expansive and admits periodic orbits. Finally, we provide a lower bound for the growth rate of periodic orbits in an ASH attractor.

Abstract:Morales, Pacifico and Pujals proved recently that every robustly transitive singular set for a3-dimensional flow must be partially hyperbolic. In this paper wegeneralize the resultto higher dimensions. By definition, anisolated invariant set $\Lambda$ of a $C^1$ vector field $S$ iscalled robustly transitive if there exist an isolatingneighborhood $U$ of $\Lambda$ in $M$ and a $C^1$ neighborhood $\mathcal U$of $S$ in $\mathcal X^1(M)$ such that for every $X\in\mathcal U$,the maximal invariantset of $X$ in $U$ is non-trivially transitive.Such a set $\Lambda$ is called singular if it containsa singularity. The set $\Lambda$ is called strongly homogeneous of index $i$,if there exist an isolatingneighborhood $U$ of $\Lambda$ in $M$ and a $C^1$ neighborhood $\mathcal U$of $S$ in $\mathcal X^1(M)$ such that all periodic orbits ofall $X\in\mathcal U$ contained in $U$ havethe same index $i$. The main novelty of the proofs in this paper is anextension of the usual linear Poincaré flow 'to singularities'.

Abstract:Let $f$ be a transcendental entire function of finite order which has an attracting periodic point $z_0$ of period at least $2$. Suppose that the set of singularities of the inverse of $f$ is finite and contained in the component $U$ of the Fatou set that contains $z_0$. Under an additional hypothesis we show that the intersection of $\partial U$ with the escaping set of $f$ has Hausdorff dimension $1$. The additional hypothesis is satisfied for example if $f$ has the form $f(z)=\int_0^z p(t)e^{q(t)}dt+c$ with polynomials $p$ and $q$ and a constant $c$. This generalizes a result of Barański, Karpińska and Zdunik dealing with the case $f(z)=\lambda e^z$.

Invariant Sets and Hyperbolic Closed Reeb Orbits

Abstract:We investigate the effect of a hyperbolic (or, more generally, isolated as an invariant set) closed Reeb orbit on the dynamics of a Reeb flow on the $(2n-1)$-dimensional standard contact sphere, extending two results previously known for Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms to the Reeb setting. In particular, we show that under very mild dynamical convexity type assumptions, the presence of one hyperbolic closed orbit implies the existence of infinitely many simple closed Reeb orbits. The second main result of the paper is a higher-dimensional Reeb analogue of the Le Calvez-Yoccoz theorem, asserting that no closed orbit of a non-degenerate dynamically convex Reeb pseudo-rotation is locally maximal, i.e., isolated as an invariant set. The key new ingredient of the proofs is a Reeb variant of the crossing energy theorem.

Abstract:It is a paper about models for isolated sets and the construction of special hyperbolic Lyapunov functions. We prove that after a suitable surgery every isolated set is the intersection of an attractor and a repeller. We give linear models for attractors and repellers. With these tools we construct hyperbolic Lyapunov functions and metrics around an isolated set whose values along the orbits are catenary curves. Applications are given to expansive flows and homeomorphisms, obtaining, among other things, a hyperbolic metric on local cross sections for an arbitrary expansive flow on a compact metric space.

Abstract:We prove a theorem on structural stability of smooth attractor-repellor endomorphisms of compact manifolds, with singularities. By attractor-repellor, we mean that the non-wandering set of the dynamics $f$ is the disjoint union of a repulsive compact subset with a hyperbolic attractor on which $f$ acts bijectively. The statement of this result is both infinitesimal and dynamical. Up to our knowledge, this is the first in this hybrid direction. Our results generalize also a Mather's theorem in singularity theory which states that infinitesimal stability implies structural stability for composed mappings, to the larger category of laminations.

Abstract:The dynamics of a dissipative and area contracting planar homeomorphism were described in terms of the attractor. This was a subset of the plane defined as the maximal compact invariant set. We proved that the coexistence of two fixed points and an -cycle produced some topological complexity: the attractor cannot be arcwise connected. The proofs were based on the theory of prime ends.

Abstract:We study the computational problem of rigorously describing the asymptotic behaviour of topological dynamical systems up to a finite but arbitrarily small pre-specified error. More precisely, we consider the limit set of a typical orbit, both as a spatial object (attractor set) and as a statistical distribution (physical measure), and prove upper bounds on the computational resources of computing descriptions of these objects with arbitrary accuracy. We also study how these bounds are affected by different dynamical constrains and provide several examples showing that our bounds are sharp in general. In particular, we exhibit a computable interval map having a unique transitive attractor with Cantor set structure supporting a unique physical measure such that both the attractor and the measure are non computable.

Dimension Paradox of Irrationally Indifferent Attractors

Abstract:In this paper we study the geometry of the attractors of holomorphic maps with an irrationally indifferent fixed point. We prove that for an open set of such holomorphic systems, the local attractor at the fixed point has Hausdorff dimension two, provided the asymptotic rotation at the fixed point is of sufficiently high type and does not belong to Herman numbers. As an immediate corollary, the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set of any such rational map with a Cremer fixed point is equal to two. Moreover, we show that for a class of asymptotic rotation numbers, the attractor satisfies Karpinska's dimension paradox. That is, the the set of end points of the attractor has dimension two, but without those end points, the dimension drops to one.

Abstract:We prove that every Reeb flow on a closed connected three-manifold has either two or infinitely many simple periodic orbits, assuming that the associated contact structure has torsion first Chern class. As a special case, we prove a conjecture of Hofer-Wysocki-Zehnder published in 2003 asserting that a smooth and autonomous Hamiltonian flow on $\mathbb{R}^4$ has either two or infinitely many simple periodic orbits on any regular compact connected energy level that is transverse to the radial vector field. Other corollaries settle some old problems about Finsler metrics: we show that every Finsler metric on $S^2$ has either two or infinitely many prime closed geodesics; and we show that a Finsler metric on $S^2$ with at least one closed geodesic that is not irrationally elliptic must have infinitely many prime closed geodesics. The novelty of our work is that we do not make any nondegeneracy hypotheses.

Existence of arbitrary large numbers of non-$\mathbb R$-covered Anosov flows on hyperbolic $3$-manifolds

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to prove that, for every $n\in \mathbb N$, there exists a closed hyperbolic $3$-manifold $M$ which carries at least $n$ non-$\mathbb R$-covered Anosov flows, that are pairwise non-orbitally equivalent. Due to a recent result by Fenley, such Anosov flows are quasi-geodesic. Hence, we get the existence of hyperbolic $3$-manifolds carrying many pairwise non-orbitally equivalent quasi-geodesic Anosov flows. Based on the orbit space theory of Anosov flows developed by Fenley and Barbot, we completely studied the connected components of edge-adjacent lozenges, say, clusters in the orbit spaces of the Anosov flows in construction. The number of the lozenges of a cluster and a type of orientations on the clusters together are used as dynamical invariants to prove that the flows we construct are not orbitally equivalent. We believe that those dynamical invariants could be used in a much wider context.

Low-action holomorphic curves and invariant sets

Abstract:We prove a compactness theorem for sequences of low-action punctured holomorphic curves of controlled topology, in any dimension, without imposing the typical assumption of uniformly bounded Hofer energy. In the limit, we extract a family of closed Reeb-invariant subsets. Then, we prove new structural results for the U-map in ECH and PFH, implying that such sequences exist in abundance in low-dimensional symplectic dynamics. We obtain applications to symplectic dynamics and the geometry of surfaces. First, we prove generalizations to higher genus surfaces and three-manifolds of the celebrated Le Calvez-Yoccoz theorem. Second, we show that for any closed Riemannian or Finsler surface a dense set of points have geodesics passing through them that visit different sections of the surface. Third, we prove a version of Ginzburg-Gürel's "crossing energy bound" for punctured holomorphic curves, of arbitrary topology, in symplectizations of any dimension.
