Abstract:This work contains the results from a comprehensive study of a new class of attractors. The attractors in this class are characterized by strong local instability, but they are not uniformly hyperbolic. Rigorous results on their dynamical, geometric and statistical properties are presented.

Abstract:In this paper, not only a novel three-dimensional autonomous strange attractor is proposed, but also an idea to generate a more complex chaotic system was introduced. Of particular interest is that this novel system has complex phase diagram, big positive Lyapunov exponent and broad frequency spectrum. With either analytical or numerical methods, basic properties of the system, such as dynamical behaviors (time history and phase diagrams), Poincare mapping, bifurcation diagram and Lyapunov exponents are investigated to observe chaotic motions. The obtained results clearly show that this is a new chaotic system which has good application prospects.

Abstract:Attractor dynamics is a crucial problem for attractor neural networks, as it is the underling computational mechanism for memory storage and retrieval in neural systems. This brief studies a class of attractor network consisting of linearized threshold neurons, and analyzes global attractors based on a parameterized 2-D model. On the basis of previous results on nondegenerate and degenerate equilibria in mathematics, we further elucidate all possible nontrivial global attractors. Our theoretical result provides precise descriptions on how the changes of network parameters affect the attractors' distribution and landscape, and it may give a feasible solution towards specifying attractors by specifying weights. Simulations are presented to illustrate the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper we present a new simple controller for a chaotic system, that is, the Newton–Leipnik equation with two strange attractors: the upper attractor (UA) and the lower attractor (LA). The controller design is based on the passive technique. The final structure of this controller for original stabilization has a simple nonlinear feedback form. Using a passive method, we prove the stability of a closed-loop system. Based on the controller derived from the passive principle, we investigate three different kinds of chaotic control of the system, separately: the original control forcing the chaotic motion to settle down to the origin from an arbitrary position of the phase space; the chaotic intra-attractor control for stabilizing the equilibrium points only belonging to the upper chaotic attractor or the lower chaotic one, and the inter-attractor control for compelling the chaotic oscillation from one basin to another one. Both theoretical analysis and simulation results verify the validity of the suggested method.

Abstract:Whether strange nonchaotic attractors (SNAs) can occur typically in dynamical systems other than quasiperiodically driven systems has long been an open question. Here we show, based on a physical analysis and numerical evidence, that robust SNAs can be induced by small noise in autonomous discrete-time maps and in periodically driven continuous-time systems. These attractors, which are relevant to physical and biological applications, can thus be expected to occur more commonly in dynamical systems than previously thought.

Abstract:To generate strange nonchaotic attractor in quasiperiodically driven systems, there must be an unstable region in its phase-space. In this paper, a theoretical analysis shows that the quasiperiodic force acts as noise to lead the trajectory running into different expanding orbits when the trajectory repeatedly runs into the unstable region. Thus the resulting attractor is strange. The local-phase Lyapunov exponent is introduced for the study of low-frequency quasiperiodically driven systems. It is shown that the local-phase Lyapunov exponents can be approximated by the exponents of autonomous systems. The statistical properties of SNA system driven by low-frequency quasiperiodic force can then be approached by a set of autonomous systems.

Abstract:Quasiperiodically forced systems are an important class of dynamical systems exhibiting quasiperiodic, strange nonchaotic, and chaotic attractors. A major concern is the identification of the parameter range in which each one of the attractors is present. In this work, based on the phase sensitivity proposed by Pikovsky and Feudel, we define a measure to quantitatively distinguish quasiperiodic attractors, strange nonchaotic attractors, and chaotic attractors. Particularly, we can determine the boundary points of these three attractors in parameter space. The reliability of this measure is verified in smooth and non-smooth systems.

Abstract:The existence of strange nonchaotic attractors (SNAs) and the associated mechanisms are studied in a class of quasiperiodically forced piecewise smooth systems. We show that the birth of SNAs is through interior crisis, basin boundary metamorphosis, discontinuous quasiperiodic orbits, and double bifurcation routes. Compared with the fractal, torus-doubling, and type-I intermittency routes, the four routes have more abundant dynamical phenomena, namely, the crisis-induced intermittency, the collision between attractors and the boundaries of fractal basin, the discontinuous quasiperiodic orbits, and the double bifurcation vertices. The characteristics of SNAs are described with the help of some qualitative and quantitative methods, such as the Lyapunov exponent, phase sensitivity function, critical exponent, and power spectrum.

Abstract:A nonchaotic attractor is observed in an infinite-dimensional system which is related to optical bistability and described by a nonlinear time-delay differential equation. The observed nonchaotic attractor is characterized by the strange trajectory of attractor but with negative value for the largest Lyapunov exponent, as well as the Fourier power spectra.

Abstract:In this paper, a new three-dimensional autonomous system with complex dynamical behaviors is reported. This new system has three quadratic nonlinear terms and one constant term. One remarkable feature of the system is that it can generate multiple chaotic and multiple periodic attractors in a wide range of system parameters. The presence of coexisting chaotic and periodic attractors in the system is investigated. Moreover, it is easily found that the new system also can generate four-scroll chaotic attractor. Some basic dynamical behaviors of the system are investigated through theoretical analysis and numerical simulation.

Abstract:Dynamical behavior of a class of nonhyperbolic discrete systems are considered. These systems are generated by iterating planar maps that are piecewise isometries, and they arise as mathematical models for signal processing, digital filters and modulator dynamics. Planar piecewise isometries may be discontinuous and/or non-invertible. First, the authors consider attraction caused by discontinuity in planar piecewise isometries. Namely, they have shown that the maximal invariant set can induce an invariant measure, and all the Lyapunov exponents are zero under this invariant measure. Second, they discuss various definitions of global attractors and their existence and uniqueness for discontinuous maps, and introduce a few examples in which the attractors are created due to discontinuity. Third, they study the relation between invariance and invertibility for various nonhyperbolic maps, and finally they investigate decomposability of global attractors for certain nonhyperbolic systems.

Abstract:Different mechanism for the creation of strange nonchaotic attractors(SNAs) are studied in a new quasiperiodically forced circuit system.A new mechanism of SNAs-like represented by "tire-like" and "conduit" through T2 torus bifurcation is reported.Other prominent routes,namely intermittency,Heagy-Hammel,and fractalization have been identified.The SNAs in this system are created through quasiperiodic saddle-node bifurcation(type-I intermittency) as well as through a quasiperiodic subharmonic birucation(type-III intermittency).These routes to strange nonchaos are characterized through the behavior of the largest Lyapunov exponent and bifurcation structure.The formation of SNAs through collision of torus,gradual gractilization of torus and a kind of sudden widening of the attractor is described.

Abstract:We generalize the Lozi-like family introduced in Misiurewicz and Štimac work from 2017. The generalized Lozi-like family encompasses in particular certain Lozi-like maps, orientation preserving or reversing Lozi maps or large parameter regions of 2-dimensional border collision normal forms. We prove that it possesses a strange attractor, arising as a homoclinic class.

Abstract:We prove that in systems undergoing Hopf bifurcations, the effects of periodic forcing can be amplified by the shearing in the system to create sustained chaotic behavior. Specifically, strange attractors with SRB measures are shown to exist. The analysis is carried out for infinite dimensional systems, and the results are applicable to partial differential equations. Application of the general results to a concrete equation, namely the Brusselator, is given.

Abstract:The study of the existence of finitely many chaotic attractors in the Chua’s system is a classical topic. In this article, a class of generalized Chua’s systems is introduced, where the nonlinear items are extended by a type of polynomial functions. The existence of infinitely many chaotic attractors is studied, which can not be observed in the classical Chua’s system. A lot of interesting dynamical behavior can be obtained in this kind of systems under certain conditions: (i) the coexistence of infinitely many self-excited attractors; (ii) the existence of multi-scroll attractors as well as strange dynamics with growing-scroll, where growing-scroll refers to the number of the scrolls of the attractors is increasing as time is increasing; (iii) the coexistence of infinitely many hidden attractors. Furthermore, the circuit simulations for two examples from this kind of generalized Chua’s systems illustrate the possible existence of infinitely many hidden and multi-scroll attractors under certain conditions.

Abstract:A novel chaotic system of three-dimension smooth quadratic autonomous ordinary differential polynomial derived from the Chen system is proposed in this work. And it is capable of displaying complex four scroll strange attractors of chaos. And some basic properties of the newly presented three-dimensional chaotic system have been studied, and it is theoretically proved that the system is not differentiated from the current known systems. In addition, the complicated nonlinear dynamical behavior of the newly introduced system is investigated in detail by adopting the process of theoretical or numerical simulations of Lyapunov exponents, bifurcation diagrams, phase trajectories. Interestingly, the chaotic system can also generate two other types of attractors: a single scroll chaotic attractor and two scroll one, which illustrates that the topology is more complex than the Chen system in terms of topological structure.

It discusses the classical and modern results of the theory of attractors for dissipative PDEs, including attractors for autonomous and non-autonomous equations, dynamical systems in general topological spaces, various types of trajectory, pullback and random attractors, exponential attractors, determining functionals and inertial manifolds, as well as the dimension theory for the classes of attractors mentioned above. The theoretical results are illustrated by a number of clarifying examples and counterexamples. Bibliography: 248 titles.

Abstract:A general method for the creation of strange nonchaotic attractor is proposed. As an example, the strange nonchaotic attractor in a high-dimensional globally coupled neural system is studied numerically. For such an attractor, the time interval of continuously positive finite-time Lyapunov exponent must be smaller than the period of the driving stimulus, although it has a long-time positive tail. The intermittency between laminar and burst behavior is a characteristic dynamic of the strange nonchaotic attractors. Simulation results show that the chaotic phase occurs only within a small region around the origin in the parameter space. More than half of the large nonchaotic region is the strange nonchaotic phase. The chaotic phase is typically surrounded by strange nonchaotic attractors. This result also suggests that some biological signals that have a strange structure may be nonchaotic rather than chaotic.

Abstract:The aim of this work is to understand better the long time behaviour of asymptotically compact random dynamical systems (RDS), which can be generated by solutions of some stochastic partial differential equations on unbounded domains. The conceptual analysis for the long time behavior of RDS will be done through some examples. An application of those analysis will be demonstrated through the proof of the existence of random attractors for asymptotically compact dissipative RDS.
