Abstract:We will cover the basics of several complex variables in 4 lectures: Basic properties of holomorphic functions in several variables, the notion of pseudoconvexity, CR functions and CR geometry, and the $\bar\partial$-problem. The main underlying idea is to connect various characterizations of domains of holomorphy, that is, the natural domains of definition for holomorphic functions. In the process we will connect the function theory on the domain to geometric properties of the boundary, and discuss the relationship between the boundary values and the functions themselves and extension of holomorphic functions from subspaces. These notes are based on a series of lectures held during the S-Matrix Marathon workshop at the Institute for Advanced Study on 11-22 March 2024.

Abstract:This index covers the lecture notes and the final course project reports for COMP6411 Summer 2010 at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, Comparative Study of Programming Languages by 4 teams trying compare a set of common criteria and their applicability to about 10 distinct programming languages, where 5 language choices were provided by the instructor and five were picked by each team and each student individually compared two of the 10 and then the team did a summary synthesis across all 10 languages. Their findings are posted here for further reference, comparative studies, and analysis.

Abstract:These are notes on discrete mathematics for computer scientists. The presentation is somewhat unconventional. Indeed I begin with a discussion of the basic rules of mathematical reasoning and of the notion of proof formalized in a natural deduction system ``a la Prawitz''. The rest of the material is more or less traditional but I emphasize partial functions more than usual (after all, programs may not terminate for all input) and I provide a fairly complete account of the basic concepts of graph theory.

Abstract:Symplectic and Poisson geometry emerged as a tool to understand the mathematical structure behind classical mechanics. However, due to its huge development over the past century, it has become an independent field of research in differential geometry. In this lecture notes, we will introduce the essential objects and techniques in symplectic geometry (e.g Darboux coordinates, Lagrangian submanifolds, cotangent bundles) and Poisson geometry (e.g symplectic foliations, some examples of Poisson structures). This geometric approach will be motivated by examples from classical physics, and at the end we will explore applications of symplectic and Poisson geometry to Lie theory and other fields of mathematical physics.

Abstract:This is the first of the proposed sets of notes to be published in the website Gonit Sora (<a class="link-external link-http" href="http://gonitsora.com" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>). The notes will hopefully be able to help the students to learn their subject in an easy and comprehensible way. These notes are aimed at mimicking exactly what would be typically taught in a one-semester course at a college or university. The level of the notes would be roughly at the undergraduate level. The present sets of notes are not yet complete and this is the second version that is being posted. These notes contain very few proofs and only state the important results in Probability Theory. These notes are based on the course taught at Tezpur University, Assam, India by Dr. Santanu Dutta. There may be some errors and typos in these notes which we hope the reader would bring to our notice.

Abstract:This article deals with the following four linguistic topics: motivation, transparency, polysemy, and semantic copying (or duplication), each forming a section. The first section illustrates the relation between the external and internal motivations, and the ecology within language after the number of morphemes has reached the saturation point. The second discusses the factors that affect transparency, in terms of which a comparison is made between different types of words. The third talks about polysemy and its relation to homonymy, etc. The last section introduces semantic copying (or duplication), an encoding mechanism that can be employed to increase transparency and avoid ambiguity.
