Abstract:We study germs of analytic maps $f:(X,S)\rightarrow(\mathbb{C}^p,0)$, when $X$ is an ICIS of dimension $n<p$. We define an image Milnor number, generalizing Mond's definition, $\mu_I(X,f)$ and give results known for the smooth case such as the conservation of this quantity by deformations. We also use this to characterise the Whitney equisingularity of families of corank one map germs $f_t\colon(\mathbb{C}^n,S)\to(\mathbb{C}^{n+1},0)$ with isolated instabilities in terms of the constancy of the $\mu_I^*$-sequences of $f_t$ and the projections $\pi\colon D^2(f_t)\to\mathbb{C}^n$, where $D^2(f_t)$ is the ICIS given by double point space of $f_t$ in $\mathbb{C}^n\times\mathbb{C}^n$. The $\mu_I^*$-sequence of a map germ consist of the image Milnor number of the map germ and all its successive transverse slices.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the local behavior of nonnegative solutions of fractional semi-linear equations $(-\Delta)^\sigma u = u^p$ with an isolated singularity, where $\sg \in (0, 1)$ and $\frac{n}{n-2\sg} < p < \frac{n+2\sg}{n-2\sg}$. We first use blow up method and a Liouville type theorem to derive an upper bound. Then we establish a monotonicity formula and a sufficient condition for removable singularity to give a classification of the isolated singularities. When $\sg=1$, this classification result has been proved by Gidas and Spruck (Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 34: 525-598, 1981).

Abstract:Definition 0. Let V be a Stein analytic space with x as its only singular point. Let 7r: M -V be a resolution of the singularity of V. We shall denote dim H1(M, 9), 1 < i < n 1 by h(i), and dim Hq(M, UP) for 1 ? p < n, 1 < q < n by hP,q(M). So far as the classification problem is concerned, h (n-i) is one of the most important invariants. In this paper, we shall introduce a bunch of invariants (cf. Definition 2.6, Definition 4.1, and Definition 5.1) which are naturally attached to isolated singularities. These invariants are used to characterize the different notions of sheaves of germs of holomorphic differential forms on analytic spaces. Various formulae which relate all these invariants are proved. We also show how to calculate these invariants explicitly. Our paper is organized as follows. In section 2 we discuss the relationship between three different kinds of sheaves of germs of holomorphic forms introduced by Grauert-Grothendieck, Noether and Ferrari respectively, and the dualizing sheaf on a complex analytic space which admits only isolated singularities. We remark that the torsion sheaf of the sheaf of germs of holomorphic p-forms in the sense of Grauert-Grothendieck was studied by Brieskorn [9], Greuel [48], Kantor [19], Suzuki [38], Vetter [39] and the author [43]. Abstract:We consider $\mathcal{A}$-finite map germs $f$ from $(\mathbb{C}^n,0)$ to $(\mathbb{C}^{2n},0)$. First, we show that the number of double points that appears in a stabilization of $f$, denoted by $d(f)$, can be calculated as the length of the local ring of the double point set $D^2(f)$ of $f$, given by the Mond's ideal. In the case where $n\leq 3$ and $f$ is quasihomogeneous, we also present a formula to calculate $d(f)$ in terms of the weights and degrees of $f$. Finally, we consider an unfolding $F(x,t) = (f_t(x),t)$ of $f$ and we find a set of invariants whose constancy in the family $f_t$ is equivalent to the Whitney equisingularity of $F$. As an application, we present a formula to calculate the Euler obstruction of the image of $f$.

Abstract:Let p be a normal singularity of the 2-dimensional Stein space V . Let π : M → V be a resolution of V such that the irreducible components Ai, 1 ≤ i ≤ n, of A = π−1(p) are nonsingular and have only normal crossings. Associated to A is a weighted dual graph Γ (e.g. see [Hi] or [La1]) which, along with the genera of the Ai, fully describes the topology and differentiable structure of A and the topological and differentiable nature of the embedding of A in M . One of the important questions in normal two dimensional singularities is the classification of all weighted dual graphs for complete intersection singularities. Alternatively, we may ask: what condition does the existence of complete intersection representative (V, p) put on a weighted dual graph Γ? Abstract:We study pencils of curves on a germ of complex reduced surface . These are families of curves parametrized by having 0 as the unique common point. We prove that for , the corresponding curve of the pencil does not have the generic topology if and only if either the corresponding curve of the pulled-back pencil to the normalized surface has a non generic topology or w is a limit value for the function along the singular locus of , where f and g are generators of the pencil.

The adjective 'singular' in the title refers here to singular points of complex-analytic or algebraic varieties or mappings. Abstract:Let X be a reduced complex-analytic germ of pure dimension n\ge2, with arbitrary singularities (not necessarily normal or complete intersection). Various homology cycles on Link_\ep[X] vanish at different speeds when \ep\to0. We give a condition ensuring fast vanishing loops on X. The condition is in terms of the discriminant and the covering data for "convenient" coverings X\to (C^n,o). No resolution of singularities is involved.

Abstract:We study the local properties of positive solutions of the equation $-\Delta u=u^p-m|\nabla u|^q$ in a punctured domain $\Omega\setminus\{0\}$ of $\mathbb{R}^N$ or in a exterior domain $\mathbb{R}^N\setminus B_{r_0}$ in the range $\min\{p,q\}>1$ and $m>0$. We prove a series of a priori estimates depending $p$ and $q$, and of the sign of $q-\frac {2p}{p+1}$ and $q-p$. Using various techniques we obtain removability results for singular sets and we give a precise description of behaviour of solutions near an isolated singularity or at infinity in $\mathbb{R}^N$.

We employ a {\it cut-off} argument to obtain the existence of $k$ (being an arbitrarily large integer) solutions. Furthermore, by using the Moser iteration technique, we prove a uniform $L^{\infty}({\Omega})$ bound for the solutions. The novelty of this work lies in proving the existence of small energy solutions by using the symmetric mountain pass theorem in spite of the presence of a critical nonlinear term which, of course, is super-linear.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the asymptotic behavior of positive solutions of the biharmonic equation $$ \Delta^2 u = u^p~~~~~~~in ~ B_1 \backslash \{0\}$$ with an isolated singularity, where the punctured ball $B_1 \backslash \{0\} \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ with $n\geq 5$ and $\frac{n}{n-4} < p < \frac{n+4}{n-4}$. This equation is relevant for the $Q$-curvature problem in conformal geometry. We classify isolated singularities of positive solutions and describe the asymptotic behavior of positive singular solutions without the sign assumption for $-\Delta u$. We also give a new method to prove removable singularity theorem for nonlinear higher order equations.

Abstract:We produce new examples supporting the Mond conjecture which can be stated as follows. The number of parameters needed for a miniversal unfolding of a finitely determined map-germ from $n$-space to $(n+1)$-space is less than (or equal to if the map-germ is weighted homogeneous) the rank of the $n$th homology group of the image of a stable perturbation of the map-germ. We give examples of finitely determined map-germs of corank 2 from 3-space to 4-space satisfying the conjecture. We introduce a new type of augmentations to generate series of finitely determined map-germs in dimensions $(n,n+1)$ from a given one in dimensions $(n-1,n)$. We present more examples in dimensions $(4,5)$ and $(5,6)$ based on our examples, and verify the conjecture for them.

Isolated Suborders and their Application to Counting Closure Operators

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the interplay between isolated suborders and closures. Isolated suborders are a special kind of suborders and can be used to diminish the number of elements of an ordered set by means of a quotient construction. The decisive point is that there are simple formulae establishing relationships between the number of closures in the original ordered set and the quotient thereof induced by isolated suborders. We show how these connections can be used to derive a recursive algorithm for counting closures, provided the ordered set under consideration contains suitable isolated suborders.
