In this paper, we give the formula for [math], and prove that [math] when the order of [math] is prime power. Moreover, we get the minimum of [math] according to [math], where [math] is the number of distinct noncyclic Sylow subgroups of [math].

Abstract:We prove that if F is a non-empty Fitting class, pi = pi(F) and G is a group such that every chief factor of G/G(F) is an E-pi(N)-group, then G has at least one F-injector and any two F-injectors are conjugate in G. This result is used to resolve an open problem and generalize some known results.

Abstract:We determine the partitions $\lambda$ for which the corresponding induced module (or Schur module in the language of Buchsbaum et. al., [1]) $\nabla(\lambda)$ is injective in the category of polynomial modules for a general linear group over an infinite field, equivalently which Weyl modules are projective polynomial modules. Since the problem is essentially no more difficult in the quantised case we address it at this level of generality. Expressing our results in terms of the representation theory of Hecke algebras at the parameter $q$ we determine the partitions $\lambda$ for which the corresponding Specht module is a Young module, when $1+q\neq 0$. In the classical case this problem was addressed by D. Hemmer, [12]. The nature of the set of partitions appearing in our solution gives a new formulation of Carter's condition on regular partitions. On the other hand, we note, in Remark 2.22, that the result on irreducible Weyl modules for the quantised Schur algebra $S_q(n,n)$, [17], Theorem 5.39, given in terms of Carter partitions, may be also used to obtain the main result presented here.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide some conditions of (super)-solvability and nilpotency of a finite group $G$ based on its number of subgroups $Sub(G)$. Our results generalize the classification of finite groups with less than $20$ subgroups by Betz and Nash. We also provide an application of our results in studying comaximal subgroup graph of a group. Finally, we conclude with some open issues.

Abstract:In 1981/82, Hickin \& Plotkin and McKenzie both proved that a finite group has only countably many non-isomorphic subdirect powers if and only if it is abelian. In this paper, we prove that a finite commutative semigroup has only countably many non-isomorphic countable subdirect powers if and only if it is either a finite abelian group or a null semigroup.

Abstract:Abstract Classical results from the theory of finite soluble groups state that Carter subgroups, i.e. self-normalizing nilpotent subgroups, coincide with nilpotent projectors and with nilpotent covering subgroups, and they form a non-empty conjugacy class of subgroups, in soluble groups. This paper presents an extension of these facts to $$\pi $$ π -separable groups, for sets of primes $$\pi $$ π , by proving the existence of a conjugacy class of subgroups in $$\pi $$ π -separable groups, which specialize to Carter subgroups within the universe of soluble groups. The approach runs parallel to the extension of Hall theory from soluble to $$\pi $$ π -separable groups by Čunihin, regarding existence and properties of Hall subgroups.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to determine the structure and to establish the isomorphic invariant of the finitely generated nilpotent group G of infinite cyclic commutator subgroup. Using the structure and invariant of the group which is the central extension of a cyclic group by a free abelian group of finite rank of infinite cyclic center, we provide a decomposition of G as the product of a generalized extraspecial ℤ-group and its center. By using techniques of lifting isomorphisms of abelian groups and equivalent normal form of the generalized extraspecial ℤ-groups, we finally obtain the structure and invariants of the group G.

Abstract:There is strong evidence for the belief that `almost all' finite semigroups, whether we consider multiplication operations on a fixed set or their isomorphism classes, are nilpotent of index 3 (3-nilpotent for short). The only known method for counting all semigroups of given order is exhaustive testing, but formulae exist for the numbers of 3-nilpotent ones, and it is also known that `almost all' of these are rigid (have only trivial automorphism). Here we express the number of distinct 3-nilpotent semigroup operations on a fixed set of cardinality $n$ as a sum of Stirling numbers, and provide a new expression for the number of isomorphism classes of 3-nilpotent semigroups of cardinality $n$. We introduce a notion of semirigidity for semigroups (as a generalization of rigidity) and find computationally tractable formulae giving an upper bound for the number of pairwise non-isomorphic semirigid 3-nilpotent semigroups, and thus an improved lower bound for the number of all 3-nilpotent semigroups up to isomorphism. Analogous formulae are also developed for isomorphism classes such as commutative and self-dual semigroups, and for equivalence classes (isomorphic or anti-isomorphic). The method relies on an application of the theory of orbit counting in permutation group actions. Our main results are accompanied by tables containing values of these numbers and bounds up to $n=10$ with computations carried out in GAP (but perfectly feasible well beyond this value of $n$).

Abstract:We prove the following conjecture of Margulis. Let $G$ be a higher rank simple Lie group and let $\Lambda\le G$ be a discrete subgroup of infinite covolume. Then, the locally symmetric space $\Lambda\backslash G/K$ admits injected balls of any radius. This can be considered as a geometric interpretation of the celebrated Margulis normal subgroup theorem. However, it applies to general discrete subgroups not necessarily associated to lattices. Yet, the result is new even for subgroups of infinite index of lattices. We establish similar results for higher rank semisimple groups with Kazhdan's property (T). We prove a stiffness result for discrete stationary random subgroups in higher rank semisimple groups and a stationary variant of the Stück-Zimmer theorem for higher rank semisimple groups with property (T). We also show that a stationary limit of a measure supported on discrete subgroups is almost surely discrete.

Abstract:We prove that over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$ there are exactly, up to isomorphism, $n$ infinitesimal commutative unipotent $k$-group schemes of order $p^n$ with one-dimensional Lie algebra, and we explicitly describe them. We consequently recover an explicit description of the $p^n$-torsion of any supersingular elliptic curve over an algebraically closed field. Finally, we use these results to answer a question of Brion on rational actions of infinitesimal commutative unipotent group schemes on curves.

Abstract:We investigate the power of counting in Group Isomorphism. We first leverage the count-free variant of the Weisfeiler--Leman Version I algorithm for groups (Brachter & Schweitzer, LICS 2020) in tandem with limited non-determinism and limited counting to improve the parallel complexity of isomorphism testing for several families of groups. These families include: - Direct products of non-Abelian simple groups. - Coprime extensions, where the normal Hall subgroup is Abelian and the complement is an $O(1)$-generated solvable group with solvability class $\text{poly} \log \log n$. This notably includes instances where the complement is an $O(1)$-generated nilpotent group. This problem was previously known to be in $\textsf{P}$ (Qiao, Sarma, & Tang, STACS 2011), and the complexity was recently improved to $\textsf{L}$ (Grochow & Levet, FCT 2023). - Graphical groups of class $2$ and exponent $p > 2$ (Mekler, J. Symb. Log., 1981) arising from the CFI and twisted CFI graphs (Cai, Fürer, & Immerman, Combinatorica 1992) respectively. In particular, our work improves upon previous results of Brachter & Schweitzer (LICS 2020). We finally show that the $q$-ary count-free pebble game is unable to distinguish even Abelian groups. This extends the result of Grochow & Levet (ibid), who established the result in the case of $q = 1$. The general theme is that some counting appears necessary to place Group Isomorphism into $\textsf{P}$.

Abstract:Let R be a ring with 1, I be a nilpotent subring of R (there exists a natural number n, such that I n = 0), and I be generated by {x j |j ∈ J} as ring. Write U = 1 + I, and it is a nilpotent group with class ⩽ n−1. Let G be the subgroup of U which is generated by {1+x j |j ∈ J}. The group constructed in this paper indicates that the nilpotency class of G can be less than that of U.

Abstract:We investigate infinite dimensional modules for a linear algebraic group $\mathbb G$ over a field of positive characteristic $p$. For any subcoalgebra $C \subset \mathcal O(\mathbb G)$ of the coordinate algebra of $\mathbb G$, we consider the abelian subcategory $CoMod(C) \subset Mod(\mathbb G)$ and the left exact functor $(-)_C: Mod(\mathbb G) \to CoMod(C)$ that is right adjoint to the inclusion functor. The class of cofinite $\mathbb G$-modules is formulated using finite dimensional subcoalgebras of $\mathcal O(\mathbb G)$ and the new invariant of "cofinite type" is introduced. We are particularly interested in mock injective $\mathbb G$-modules, $\mathbb G$-modules which are not seen by earlier support theories. Various properties of these ghostly $\mathbb G$-modules are established. The stable category $StMock(\mathbb G)$ is introduced, enabling mock injective $\mathbb G$-modules to fit into the framework of tensor triangulated categories.

Abstract:The monoid of all partial injections on a finite set (the symmetric inverse semigroup) is of particular interest because of the well-known Wagner-Preston Theorem. In this article, we step forward the study of a submonoid of the symmetric inverse semigroup. We explore the monoid of all order-, fence-, and parity-preserving transformations on an $n$-element chain. We also characterize the transformations in that monoid and show that it has a rank $3n-6$. In particular, we provide a generating set $A_n$ of minimal size and exhibit concrete normal forms for the transformations generated by $A_n$.
