Abstract:Membrane technology has been widely used in gas separation, material separation and water treatment as a new separation technology. Membrane technology increasingly shows its important role and a bright future. This paper focused on membrane technology and apparatus, and reviewed achievements on patents of wastewater treatment by membrane technology, which contains nanofiltration (NF), ultrafiltration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO). Membrane technology is an attractive technology that needs further research efforts and industrialization. However, membrane fouling still remains a major problem for all membrane reactors. Discussions are also made on how to resolve membrane fouling for wastewater treatment. Keywords: Membrane technology, wastewater treatment, membrane fouling, prospect.

Abstract:Membrane separation technique is a liquid separation technology,which is high efficiency,low energy consumption and easy operation.It was simply introduced the separation mechanism,characteristics and application scope of different kinds of membrane technology,including reverse osmosis,electrodialysis,microporous filtration,ultrafiltration and nanofiltration in the papaer.It was mainly introduced the application situation and research progress of membrane separation technology in drinking water treatment,oil-bearing wastewater,printing and dyeing wastewater,paper industrial wastewater,foodstuff wastewater,heavy metal ion wastewater and pharmaceutical wastewater and other industrial wastewater treatment.It was analyzed the current situation of membrane technology in water treatment industry,which pointed out the main problem of membrane technology in wastewater treatment and discussed the development prospect of membrane technology in water treatment industry.

Abstract:During the past two decades, research on membrane and membrane-based separation process has developed rapidly in water treatment, gas separation, biomedicine, biotechnology, chemical manufacturing and separation process integration. In China, remarkable progresses on membrane preparation, process development and industrial application have been made with the burgeoning of the domestic economy. This review highlights the recent development of advanced membranes in China, such as smart membranes for molecular-recognizable separation, ion exchange membrane for chemical productions, antifouling membrane for liquid separation, high-performance gas separation membranes and the high-efficiency hybrid membrane separation process design, etc. Additionally, the applications of advanced membranes, relevant devices and process design strategy in chemical engineering related fields are discussed in detail. Finally, perspectives on the future research directions, key challenges and issues in membrane separation are concluded.

Abstract:A multiple membrane process aimed at reutilization of plating combined wastewater after physical and chemical pretreatment in mechanical industry was developed for selective separation to reduce cost and mitigated the increasing heavy metal pollution. The process was divided into three stages: firstly, microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) was used to separate the possible organic and suspended matters, secondly, electrodialysis (ED) was carried out for effective desalination, and thirdly, the concentrate from ED was treated by nanofiltration (NF) and reverse osmosis (RO) separately to increase the recovery rate of water. Results showed that filtration characteristics of UF membrane here was not so good as usually, even if compared with MF membrane. And RO performed better than NF in wastewater separation, especially in anti-compacting ability of membrane. Since the rejection rate of heavy metal ions and COD in ED/RO process is high, all the product water exceeded the related qualification and could be reused as cooling water in industry.

Abstract:Membrane filtration was a pressure-driven separation technique,in which a pressure was exerted to make the liquid separated into the concentrating fluid and the penetrating fluid through the membrane.According to the membrane pore sizes,the sizes of retained matter and the pressure exerted on the membrane,membrane processes used in wastewater treatment could be classified into microfiltration(MF),ultrafiltration(UF),nanofiltration(NF) and reverse osmosis(RO).The principles of different membrane filtration techniques,the types of membranes,filtration models and the control of membrane fouling were reviewed in this paper.The application of membrane filtration techniques such as RO and NF in the treatment of wastewater from landfills,NF in textile and printworks industry and UF and MF in wastewater treatment and reuse were also summarized.Finally,the developments of membrane filtration technique in the future were discussed.

Abstract:The membrane technologies for liquid separation include microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration reverse osmosis and electrodialysis et al. The separation performances of the membranes processes are expressed as the flux and rejection and the operation modes are divided into the concentration and the diafiltration. There are more than three hundreds of RD research organizations and engineering corporations engaging in the membranes and membrane processes in China. In this paper, the present progress status and development tendency of the membrane technologies in China have been summarized in the fields, such as the desalination of seawater and saline water, the production of drinking water, medical pure water and ultra-pure water used in semiconductor or microelectronics industry, the treatments of wastewaters from electrodeposition and electroplating, food, sanitation, medicine, pharmacy, chemical engineering and metallurgical industries.

Abstract:Wastewater in mechanical industry was treated for utilization by microfiltration(MF) and electrodialysis(ED). The results showed that microfiltration was suitable for pre-treatment, while the electrodialysis was suitable for salts,organics and COD removal. The final conductivity of the product water after ED was as low as 260μS/cm and the ultimate COD value was about 20mg/L.The quality of product water was close to municipal tap water and very suitable for reuse as industrial cycle cooling water.

Abstract:The integrated technique with biological and membrane separation processes for chemical industrial wastewater treatment and reuse is introduced.Chemical industrial wastewater is characterized by seriously polluted,low biodegradability,variable pH and high organic and high salt concentration.The physico-chemical pretreatment,biological processes like hydrolysis acidification and aerobic biological film reactor,integrated with UF and RO membrane separation are used and designed.The treatment water is reused as circulating cooling water.Water saving and controlling have been realized altogether.The technique also promotes the application of membrane separation to the treatment and reuse of chemical industrial wastewater.
